The coffee was excellent and the hot cinnamon roll was very good. Those are the good bits. Now for the not so good bits. Coffee is served in paper cups only. I know Starbucks does this, but even they will offer a porcelain mug if asked. The reason we were given for paper cups (and I presume paper plates and plastic forks) was "it would make too much washing up". This is potentially a great coffee shop; all the bits are there, but buy some decent cups, plates and silverware...and a pair of vinyl gloves. This would turn this good little establishment from an almost 4 star, to a five star with a bonus. We'll be back

We walked over and we were so glad we did! By PB&J Iced Latte was so good! The cold foam on top was so yummy and the drink really did taste like a PB&J. The Iced Chai was also delish! It was spicy and not overly sweet. We stopped by before we left town the next day - for one more PB&J Latte, another Chai as well as the Blackberry Lemonade and a few baked treats for the road. The Blackberry Lemonade was a fun drink - icey and refreshing! (It was pretty sweet, but also tart - really good) The staff were SO welcoming (especially the sweetest baby ever at the register ) Everyone behind the counter was smiling and actively working which is why our drinks were ready fairly quickly both days despite the crowd. The shop had fun little gifts and stickers which tempted us while we waited. We were happy to see so many Gluten Free treat options - they were all individually wrapped which made them even safer for our son with celiac. This is a great place - we will definitely stop in next time we are in the area!

The first time was September 13, 2021; the ending stages of COVID so customers were not allowed in the shop. I ended up drinking coffee outside with three local gentlemen; one of the them was Larry. He is an owner and a Marine Veteran. We had some good laughs and I learned a lot about Banner Elk and the surrounding area. After visiting Fred and Larry's Coffee the first time, I realized I wanted to make exploring local coffee shops a part of my life; and here I am almost 500 coffee shops later. On my second trip I enjoyed a cortado while relaxing on Fred and Larry's big comfy leather couch. The barista was super friendly. She is definitely an incredible asset to the shop. Thank you Fred and Larry for making delicious coffee and providing a relaxing setting to meet new people and dream up new adventures in life. Enjoying life one cortado at a time!

Abingdon is a little town with a lot of fast food outlets and doesn't exactly have a vibrant cafe society or third spaces for people living outside of the nuclear family unit constellation. So I was delighted to find this little cafe/ bookshop (The Book Cellar) which even has a tiny garden as well where you can get a cuppa tea, browse the books, sit down and maybe just get some writing done or just collect your thoughts. Folks were very friendly and I had no problems here whatsoever. It's small, very cozy but for little Abingdon, it's just right. I was so happy to find this corner of Abingdon. I may come back to Abingdon in the future for other workshops and if I do, I sure hope this little shop and cafe are still here.

She provided recommendations and shared with me the specials offered at the time. I ordered a custom made beverage, hot Toasted Marshmallow & Butter Cookie latte with oat milk; I topped it with whipped cream and caramel drizzle. It was absolutely delicious. It was the perfect sweet treat to warm me up on chilly winter afternoon. The cafe also featured a very cute book cellar that had the neatest items!! You can definitely tuck-away in this cafe to get work done, you can meet with friends for a coffee date, or even just chill and have a cup of coffee, a pastry and indulge in a nice book. If you're in Abingdon, VA, it's absolutely worth checking out!
