They didn't take 1/2 off my apps (they said "ALL APPS")
    Carson Y.

Before I visited today on 9/13/23, Wednesday at 6:30pm, I gave them a call about their happy hour. They said it's 1/2 off ALL APPS from 4-8pm, so I decided to try the deal. We ordered the wings and nachos on the starter section of the menu. When we got the check they server said the deal isn't for "ALL" the apps. I was like are you kidding it literally says it on the board. He apologized and I don't blame him, I blame the management! I paid the bill and tipped but left feeling ripped off. It's just bad business especially when there is so much competition on Bell Blvd. I will not be returning or recommending this place if you're looking for happy hour apps.

The customer service was amazing. The hostess was friendly, continued to check up on us to make sure our drinks were filled and that we didn't need for anything. Even when the food order was wrong, she took the meal back and brought the correct meal without any complaints and still with a smile on her face.

Workingman's brunch! We spied the 25c wings listed on the sidewalk sandwich board so we wandered in here, hungry on a hot afternoon. Nice big bar, chairs with backs, plus tables on one side with quite a bit of space between the two zones. The traditional Irish-American decor. Dark and cool. Plenty of screens - not giant but big enough to watch the game. Once a couple of ice cold Blue Moons arrived we perused the menu, realizing we weren't in the mood for wings anyway. Typical pub offerings: Shepherds Pie, fish & chips, burgers, steak (does anyone actually order a steak in a bar) but then we moved on to the brunch menu. Everything sounded really good and available till 4 PM, so Richard chose the brunch burger and I went for the BLT, both with home fries. Both meals were excellent and really hit the spot. Simple, solid, tasty and satisfying. Loved the fried egg on top. Potatoes had rosemary seasoning. Prices were very easy on the wallet. Check out the photo of our tab. I'm sure they can make a fine Bloody here too, so if you're in need of brunch and do not want to spend $85, I recommend you head on over to Brian's.

Wings were horribly overcooked. Dry as paper.

This place is terrific in the food department. The seating that's visible from the outside is either bar-stools or high stool/table seating. I'm happy to say that if you have the balls to bring a baby here for food, they do have normal height seating in the back _and_ a highchair! How's that for bar family convenience? Our waiter was a young guy. Supremely friendly, supremely competent. I've been to Michelin rated restaurants with entire staffs that weren't as good as him. Definitely personable and always smiling. Made us feel welcome. Food was mostly great. They need to invest in more flavorful cheeses. Bacon Cheese Burger: A The burger was perfect. We asked for medium rare and that's precisely what we got. Beautiful char-grill marks and wonderful grill flavoring. This is a better burger than Bareburger. The menu says 2 pieces of bacon, which sounds a bit stingy, but we were given more than two without asking. Maybe sharper cheddar (and more of it) and a better bun would propel this burger to an A+ rating. Wings: C We got "mild" for the baby but ended up not giving her any because they were too dry. Way overcooked. Potato Skins: B+ They were awfully good. Lots of bacon, which is great! Again, a sharper cheddar would been nice. But what prevents these from being an A is that the skins were not crispy. Potato skins should have a crispy bottom. Perhaps they should salt the bottoms and toast them? French Onion Soup: B A good soup, but not a good French Onion soup. The onions are caramelized. I could detect no sherry in the soup. The cheese is pure Swiss (a mixture of Swiss and Gruyere gives that classic burnt topping since Swiss doesn't char well). I don't blame them -- caramelizing onions takes up to an hour on a low flame and needs constant attention, but it IS possible to have a phenomenal French Onion soup at a restaurant (see Aperitif Bistro). Good. Just not a good French Onion soup. Shepherds Pie: A A bit off-putting because when you see it, it's not a typical shepherd's pie. It's in a shallow dish. The "topping" of mash potato is pretty thin. It really doesn't look like a shepherd's pie. But it is truly delicious, and that's what counts. I love the chef's use of rosemary in the stew part. Complicated flavors. Loved it! Battered Onion Rings: A These might even be better than Bareburger's onion rings, which are awfully good. They are restaurant-thick / extremely battered onion rings. Definitely a first class onion ring. Tacos: B- Slightly dry but still fun. I'm *shocked* that they don't come with sour cream and the cheese is a little flavorless. We asked for some sour cream which helped with the dryness. They are only a dollar on taco night, but still, if you're a foodie, you probably don't want to order these. There are better tacos to be had (although on Bell Avenue, the pickings are a little slim...) Steak Mac N Cheese: B (and A) The steak itself is brilliant. Char-grilled outside, grill flavor, and served medium rare. As a griller myself, I'm envious of how perfectly these pieces of steak were grilled. A solid, solid A. The mac n cheese, less so. As with pretty much everything on the menu, the cheese is substandard. It's a somewhat flavorless American cheese. My wife loved them, but the noodles were slightly too al dente for me. Lastly, anyone who cooks mac n cheese should strive for a burnt cheesy crust. The attempt wasn't even made for a cheese crust. Still, I enjoyed this dish, so it gets a B.

Arriving, the space is bright and airy. At the table there was a lovely potted plant with our reservation name which we were able to take home with us. Such a nice touch. The trivia was really fun and something different to do. We started off with the maple bacon donut holes for the table. They came out piping hot and had the perfect donut texture. They were so good. They have a lot of cocktails and cocktails to choose from. I opted for the Spritz which was a light Aperol Spritz and it was perfect for brunch. The Paloma was also quite good. I had the Tap Stack which was pancakes layered with bacon and topped with a corn flake crusted chicken cutlet. The portion was large and hearty. The chicken was so crunchy and yummy. The bacon was perfectly cooked. The pancakes were a bit on the tough and dry side. The breakfast burrito, BEC and brunch burger were all good and everyone enjoyed their meals. Mother's Day is a day I always avoided eating out on, but Taproom changed my mind about going out on Mother's Day could actually be enjoyable!

Typically the service is great but you could tell that every worker was overloaded and running around. Our server made us feel bad about modifying our orders, which we usually do without a problem. After that reaction, we expected our food to come out differently than how we ordered, which is what happened. We ended up eating everything as is and it was still delicious. The burrito and nachos are still our favorite and the pina colada is so good. They put a lot of maraschino cherries in that drink, which is loved. The food came out quickly considering how many diners there were and our server came around as often as she could to check on our and refill waters. Overall, we didn't have the best experience at this restaurant but I consider it a one time thing because we usually do have a great time.
