Just wanted to take the time to write another honest review about why I continue to come to this shop. Due to my own fault, I chose to open up my reel attempting to service it myself and ended up making things worse haha. I brought my reel into Brian's and was assisted by Glenn (awesome guy) he took the time to look into the problem and being the pro that he is, he figured it out in 10 minutes when I couldn't figure it out for days! Glenn then proceeded to explain to me where I went wrong and how to avoid it from happening again haha. Definitely had a good laugh. I needed some lead weights. I have to rewire around 5 offices with new internet CAT-6 wires so the new wires need to be thrown above the ceiling tiles. The best way to do this is to attached lead fishing weights to strings that are tied to the wires, open up the ceiling tiles, and throw the weights across the ceiling. Fishing supply stores are not the easiest to find, especially if you are not a fisherman. Yelp came to the rescue and directed me to Brian's Fishing Supply Store. I knew where Brian's was located, but there is a sign which says the name of the store is Tropo. And there are colored neon signs that make the place appear from the outside as being a place which sells tropical fish for your home tanks. Huh? I cautiously walked in and was immediately transported to another realm. This was a fishing supply store after all, but in this maybe 600 square foot space packed with every item imaginable which would satisfy your fishing equipment wants, there were eight people at 10:30 on a Tuesday morning, a few sitting in chairs, looking like they were waiting for the movie to start. I found the lead weights very quickly and selected 5 two-ounce weights and approached the counter. I thought I would have to wait in line until all the other people got their specialty gear ordered and paid for, but the proprietor asked if I needed help finding something as he wound fishing line onto a new reel for one of the waiting customers. But more importantly, knowledgeable people that can answer my questions honestly, not just trying to sell me something. The guys here are super knowledgeable and very friendly. I was afraid it would be like other fishing supply stores where the staff can be condescending, but everyone we interacted with was so nice and willing to answer all our questions. The store is very small so they need to strategically stock their items. With the pandemic a lot of people have been picking up hobbies like fishing, which has caused some items to go out of stock. But they are working on catching up to the demand and getting their stock replenished. They are also currently only letting in 3 customers at a time due to COVID restrictions. But even if you do have to wait to get in, the wait is not usually more than 5-10 minutes. I don't know a lot about fishing, needless to say about the supplies one would use, but the staff are so willing to explain everything and answer any questions you may have. Headed down there and was lucky that no one was in the store and there was no line outside as they have a limit of three customers due to covid rules so one of the guys opened the door and let me in right away. I asked if the 10% applied to Shimano items and was told yes. So I asked to see the Ultregra model and the sales guy not behind the counter says to the counter guy that I was looking for the reel located in the upper right corner of the rack, props to that guy as he had a very good memory of the model I was looking at during my prior visit over a month ago. Was happy to get what I was looking for at a discount. Minuses - During my prior visit I left my left my name and phone number and they said they would call me when the Stradic model came in, so during this visit I asked them if the Stradic came in and was told yes (hmmm, they didn't give me a call, hence deduction of stars) I knew the model arrived on Oahu as I left my name and number at POP and they gave me a call a few weeks ago that it came in. Like all stores, some items are cheaper here and other items more expensive. Good to stop by once in awhile if there is no line to get in. read more

Brent was very knowledgeable and set me up on the right tackle and flies. Talked story with him and learned the trick is "Do not look da o'io in the eye" or they will spook and split, lol. My friend Steven recommended to contact Brian's Fishing Supply store in regards to repairing the handle knob on my Daiwa 8000 Saltist. Upon explaining my situation with Brent over the phone, told me "bring the reel in, I probably can see what can be done". Upon entering, met Brent standing behind the counter and discussed with him the problem. Brent immediately looked at the reel and began repairing. Meanwhile, my son and I looked for blood worms and grubs and other gear. Met Mitchell - very knowledgeable and friendly. In about 15 minutes, Brent replaced the knob and explained the cause of the knob slippage. He showed that the original knob single bushing had failed and changed the knob to a Gomexus Power knob (ironically I was looking on-line to purchase) which has 2 bushings. By far the best Fishing / Tackle Shop I've went to, hands down! I'm new to the world of Big Game Fishing so I decided to spend my Saturday (8/22/2020) visiting all the Tackle Shops on O'ahu. Rather I was fishing for a Fishing Shop and this happened to be on of my first stops. Being it was my first time here, I wanted to ensure I arrived early to get a priority shopping experience without having to worry about a midday rush. I also wanted to arrive early to ensure I found good parking and I'm so glad I did as parking is super limited. The shop is located on South King, but if you blink you'll miss it, well at least I did. I spun around the block for a second time and was able to find a nice little nook for street parking on a side street next to the shop. Trust me! The service here definitely outweighs the little inconvenience. Upon entering the shop I was immediately greeted by Glen and the Team. Definitely made me feel like I was a longtime customer there unlike some other Tackle Shops I've visited prior. Fast-forward Glen and Company ended up lining my arsenal w the following: 1st, my Slide-bait Setup on a Nitro Power Heavy Rod paired with a PENN 4/0 Wide Spool Special Senator 113H2LW (w/ 80lb mono) 2nd, my Whipping Setup on a Shimano Tiralejo Rod paired with a Shimano Socorro SW6000 (w/ 40lb braided) TBH I didn't even bother visiting the other tackle shops after this visit. Brian's Fishing Supply has officially become my designated HQ for all my fishing and tackle needs! They're also a very good resource to learn from too. Just ask! They ended up giving me a crash course on knot tying for Big Game Fishing and even made a few sample rigs I could use as a template to practice from! Most of the fishing stores I go to is before town so when I make a trip out to Brian's I make it count. With that being said I know it's always worth it just for the customer service alone. They're solid. I forget the new guys name japanese, tall tattoos glasses he's the man and is always easy going and super knowledgeable to talk to. Even the other 2 guys they had before were cool too. I wasnt expecting much but Brent seriously hit me in the face with some of the best customer service I have ever had. For a simple 98 dollar purchase, he spent a solid 45 min spooking my reel, teaching me jew knots, listing places to fish, showing me what sizes to use for hooks and weights and line, etc. it was an amazing experience and I am going to make sure everyone cones here. First time coming here. I stopped by this morning to checkout some lures. Originally came to check out the Oama lures but got blindsided by some other lures. I ended up grabbing a couple Mark White Lures in the 1.5 to 3 oz range. I couldn't resist because the addiction is real when it comes to fishing. They have a big selection of Mark White and also GTFC lures. This place is small but it is packed with pretty much everthing you need. lots of rods to choose from and sinkers if you don't melt your own. If you build custom rods they have all the eyes you need and Tiburon frames if you're into customizing your conventional reels. Brian was very friendly and helpful when explaining about the Oama lures. Also while checking out, they have a club card that when filled, it gives you $2.00 off on your next purchase of merchandise. Any money saved on gear is a good deal. Parking can be an issues since they made the new bike lane. There's just a couple spots out front the store and a few further up the road where we parked but don't let that discourage you from visiting Brian's because it will be well worth it. One of the more modern fishing supply stores but still like the old time ones where you can chew the fat and talk fishing stories at. I like to come here for my Reels and Poles both new and used. They also make custom hooks here with a black tip but I've never really bought those. They have quite a selection of small supporting items that are hard to find like a lot of different kind of bells and hangars. Bait aerators knife accessories, used reels and new and used spools. Parking in the back is very limited but there usually is a spot to park if not most of the time there is one right in front. Like a true fishing store the owner sometimes is out "Product Testing" hehe but it isn't too often I see some friends coming in to weigh their fish which he hangs a scale outside the shop and they weigh in. I went to Brian's to buy some gear. Brian saw me and asked me if I needed help! I spent the next 20 minutes asking his advice on all sorts of fishing related equipment! I asked about lead, pole length and stiffness, two piece versus collapsible travel poles, spikes, floaters, line and spooling, and matching the reel to the pole. Brian was helpful all the way around. He asked questions to point me in the right direction. It seems like a small store, but they have quite a bit of stuff in there! Don't forget that you need to feed the meters!
