I actually went in because I noticed it next door while at Ohana Subs ordering an Açaí Bowl and rather than wait I thought I'll pick up a couple of cans of tennis balls...yes he plays tennis. There were so many different kinds I decided to get a gift card and he could just buy what he wanted. The man behind the counter told me that's the best idea since players usually prefer specific brands and colors. Who knew? The man said they actually do gift certificates (old school) not cards but not to worry they're good for two years. Not sure that's legal but hopefully he'll redeem it before that. Lots of rackets, apparel, socks, shoes, etc., a lot packed into a small shop. Seems to be popular as I'm always seeing people going in and out. Open every day 10:00 to 6:00. The staff here are attentive and gave great advice especially if it was your first time restringing your racquet. They will recommend what string is best base on what you like/ play style. The price was not bad it depends on what string you get, ours were like around $35. It took us 2 days for our racquet to be restrung. The store is small but well organized and has a decent selection of tennis and pickleball equipment ranging from paddles, shoes and some accessories. read more

I've been coming here for years and I love this shop. The shop owners are friendly and helpful and the prices are reasonable, especially for a small shop. I like to come here to get my racket restrung and they typically can get it back to you the next day (unless they're swamped). They also have some accessories that you may need. My tennis coach has tried to convince me to come here for ages. I've always used another shop as it is more convenient. But lately that shop has had horrendous customer service ever since COVID. I'm glad that I came here as their customer service was excellent! I believe it was the owner's wife who helped me get my rackets restrung and the owner Thomas was also friendly at pickup! First of all, I'm a huge believer in supporting local - especially local businesses that have great variety of items at amazing deals. I'm a relatively new player, and came in for a decent mid-priced racket. The lady behind the counter didn't seem to know anything about tennis rackets. I asked what I should be looking for, and she said "any of them will be fine". I asked "how do I pick?" She pointed out her best seller. I asked why that one was good, but she couldn't answer. First went into this business to pick up some overgrips for my pickleball paddle. They were friendly, let me browse for as long as I wanted, and answered questions that I had. Went back several months later when my son picked up tennis. They helped us pick out a racket and recommended strings that fit his playing style. What pushed them over the top was this past Sunday. We went there to have my son's racket restrung because the string looked like it was fraying. The owner could have just said, "Okay" and charged us for the service. But instead, he inspected the string condition, educated us on what to look for, and told us to come back in 2-3 months to have it rechecked. What service! Bonus? Love this place. The two people who helped us are very awesome. I have a background with tennis so I just went up to the guy and told him that I need help choosing the correct one. The price of the racquet that I bought is the same price I found online. They also offer free strings on your newly bought racquet. The strings that I picked costs around $29. Now that Sports Authority is gone, I don't know where else to shop for tennis stuff. So I searched and Pearl Kai Tennis Shop came up. I've passed by here so many times but I wasn't sure about this place. This is a tennis specialized store from shoes, balls, rackets etc. Their rackets are on high end price. I didn't need anything fancy but descent rackets to play around. They had some demo ones for sale so that's what I picked up for $50. Pearl Kai Tennis Shop is a true hidden gem in the Pearl Kai Shopping Center. You know a place is hard to spot when you frequent the area for Baskin Robbins but never noticed it was there. We went on a Friday evening to purchase some strings and there were open parking stalls right in front of the store. Upon entering, a man seated behind the register stood up and greeted us. We had a friendly conversation and he helped us choose strings and informed us that they do not charge labor for stringing if you purchase strings from them. We picked up the racket the following Monday (they ask for the receipt which we didn't bring but luckily he remembered us). Overall a welcoming small tennis shop in central Oahu that really know their stuff. I was impressed with the selection they have and would recommend this shop to any tennis player in the area. In spite of it's relatively small size Pearl Kai Tennis Shop has a wide selection of Tennis equipment. In fact they say they have the largest selection of purely tennis shoes on the island. And I accept that claim because they have a whole wall of just tennis shoes. If you want an overgrip for your racket they probably have 25 different types from which to choose. I guess being focused on just tennis allows them to have a great selection. They don't have much apparel other than the shoes, but they do have everything else you'll need if you play tennis with any seriousness at all. The workers there are very friendly, and they have great knowledge about their products. I had my racquets strung here a lot of times, and I got to pick it up the next day. This tennis shop is owned by a very nice Vietnamese couple and it's always a pleasure to come in and do business with them. The only con I have is that stringing prices are a little pricey. I used to string my own rackets so I'm not quite accustomed to having to pay to get strings done, but unfortunately when I moved to Hawaii my stringer had to stay back in Oregon. After taking a break from tennis for 20+ years, I started up again in 2007. I have been going to Pearl Kai Tennis Shop for over 5 years now. Thomas (the Owner) and his wife run the shop 7 days a week. After Thomas made some recommendations, I was allowed to test some racquets on the court before making a purchase. After I bought the racquet, I then tested different string combinations recommended by Thomas (which I paid for) till I found the right one. Because of the multitude of different racquet and string combinations, it would be impossible for me to make the best choice without the help from him. So far, I am on my third set of racquets from Pearl Kai Tennis Shop. Thomas plays a decent game of tennis. I always see him on the court with different racquets so I know his knowledge comes from really playing the game. Luckily, my tennis game has improved over the years. However, this requires the racquets and strings change to maximize it. After the initial purchase of the racquets, the stringing is critical to a consistent game. In an ideal situation, I would change to new racquet strings before each match (4.0 Men's League). Realistically, during the summer league play, I change strings every 2 weeks. Of course this is where Thomas excels. He is an excellent stringer. The tensions are very consistent. He has also handled emergency situations when I needed the racquet back quickly. This year, I have been able to acquire more control and spin since Thomas recommended hybrid stringing (with two different string types). Pearl Kai Tennis Shop also has the typical tennis accessories such as balls, shoes, bags, etc. They have a good stock of shoes so when I need another pair, the same ones are usually in stock.
