A friend and I went once not knowing it was trivia night so we got scolded for talking to loud but once they explained it was trivia night one of the teams let us join in. It was a great experience. When it's nice out and the big garage door is open, the whole place feels like sitting out with your friends back in the day. When I was back in the afore mentioned garage of my friend's we were drinking cruddy beer we stole from his dad's fridge. That will never be the case at Brick and Barrel. Their beers are awesome! Brick & Barrel is a small brewery located in the far west end area of the Flats between Ohio City and Downtown Cleveland. A relaxed atmosphere and great brews await you here and the patio in warm weather is great to watch the rush-hour traffic pass by as you sip on a pint or two and chat with the brewery owners. There is no kitchen however, in warmer weather, food trucks stop by and in the winter, food vendors make guest appearances. On this day, Rudy's Strudel & Bakery of Parma, hosted the Polish themed evening serving several varieties of pierogies, cabbage rolls & packzi. The food was delectable indeed and very reasonably priced plus the beer was happy hour priced as well. This is one of the best micro brew spots around. I feel twenty years younger when I'm at the Brick. Their master brewer is Scottish and has great style, but is sometimes very hard to understand with the accent and all. He can often be seen pounding bungs back in the small brewery. Definitely the best cask beer in town. Nicest bathrooms too. read more

I wish I could leave more info on this review, but there isn't really much to this microbrewery. Brick and Barrel is a tiny establishment on Cleveland's Ox Bow Bend peninsula with seating for about 20 people. They have a small patio outside of a garage-style roll-up door and keep 6-10 beers on tap. The bar shares an open space with the actual brewery-area and customers are subject to the heat and smells of the brewing activities. Depending on your tastes, this can be pretty neat or off-putting. I liked it. The Bitter Chief is my quaff of choice here and I'm happy with the Scotch Ale too (although it's not my style so it might be different for connoisseurs). There are some pretty outrageously priced photos on the wall for sale (one of which I'm pretty positive is photo-shopped, as I work at the steel mill it depicted). The bar is coated with blackboard paint and there is chalk for customer to jot notes/pics. Staff are very friendly and allow outside food to be brought in since they don't offer anything to eat. I'd like to know if this place is dog-friendly and if they have air-conditioning. My rating is high because I place considerations to expanding Cleveland's offering of quality craft beer over creature-comforts and ambiance, which is a fair trade for me. Give this place (and the Bitter Chief) a try, keep your expectations low, and have a good time! read more

I love the casual feel of this space and the beer isn't bad either! I've always felt welcomed and never felt intimidated to ask questions about the beer -- something that can be an issue at some breweries. The selection isn't enormous but they do everything well! Platform and Portside offer far more interesting and daring combinations that entice me to go back again and again. I'm really a sucker for a great ambiance. I heard "Brick and Barrel" and started to think rustic, brick, dim lighting, basement/dive/old-world. I suppose if you like to sit in a warehouse, surrounded by steel knobs, cranks, and beer-making gadgetry, you've found yourself a great environment. There really wasn't much seating - nothing cozy. My boyfriend stood at our table the entire time. Perhaps if they moved the equipment out of the center of the establishment, they could provide more tables and chairs for patrons. Stopped in for a drink on a Sunday afternoon with some friends. It's a very chill spot there weren't many people there at all. Brick and barrel definitely has a dive bar feel to it. They only had a couple of beers in draft, and few liquors to choose from. They also had popcorn and different snack item. The location is very nice, we had never been in that area before. Walking by , but the bridge was up and it was starting to rain. What a great place! Friendly staff and "locals". Interesting crowd , not you would expect when looking inside. I noticed some of the reviews complained about the fact that Brick and Barrel has their barrels right out in the middle of the bar. I think that's what I like most about it. The inside has an awesome warehouse basement feel and it looks like they added more tables. Brick and Barrel is truly a hidden gem in Cle. The beer is great and they always have a variety of different selections including IPA's and cask ales. Very poor experience here. The beer is really the only saving grace for Brick and Barrel, which is good, but not exceptional - and definitely not as good as right up the street at Platform. Their pierogi Monday is a joke! Mushy, cold pierogis. Served out of a "warmer" catering style. Gross. Not their product, but if I were them I wouldn't let them in my establishment! At the expense of sounding like a complete and utter snob, our experience was pretty much ruined by the stinky guy sitting next to us at the bar. Totally reeked like an ashtray. I went here alone in the summer last year and talked with one of the brewers who was a nice guy. I had different thoughts then. This place seems to have gone the way of much of the places in West Flats.. Oh the other good thing is they play Iron Maiden and the like. That's good too. read more

This bar pissed me off. The service was great and the beer was good. I love the patio and the random dog that just popped up next to me. The reason for the 3 stars is because I wanted to buy a growler and one they didn't have any and 2 they were priced the exact same or almost higher than if I were to just sit there and drink them. I've been to fat heads, brew kettle and everywhere on 25th and never have I ever had a beer that would be worth 36 dollars for a growler. How do u even justify that. The beer was 6 dollars a snifter 12oz Maybe 7. An average growler size is 64oz. This whole concept confused me and the bartender. She called him like is This right. The 36 didn't even include the growler price (which they didn't have anyway). This whole experience was frustrating and misleading. They had a sign that said 10 dollar growlers (which they didn't have) and on top of that it was 36 dollars for the beer. So since I had really wanted to take a growler home and I usually bring my own. I got a 28 dollar ipa. That was good but not worth 28 dollars for a growler fill (did I say I had to use my own growler). Yeah I might go back cause I really like the atmosphere and he beer was pretty good but they not getting better than 3 stars until they get the prices together and actually have the advertised 10 dollar growlers. read more

Brick and Barrel is one of my favorite breweries in Cleveland. It's definitely one of the smallest breweries in the city and the vibe is very homegrown. You can tell this isn't a fancy project built by hotshot investors who are looking to capitalize on the craft beer trend. The brew master is a young guy and one of the owners. It's just a taproom without food but the beer is generally pretty good. You can always order pizza from next door. The location is a little bit out of the way but that just adds to the charm. Cleveland's craft brew scene just took another step forward. We stopped into Brick & Barrel after Sunday brunch at a W.25th Street brew pub. We were looking for something different and this place fit the bill. Just an honest brewery here. A converted garage space just north of the (still closed) Columbus Street bridge. Don't let that stop you...it is just around the corner from Merwin's, another new place to grab some riverside food and drink. The beers are definitely worth the trip. The IPA is assertive and full bodied and the smoked beer is really pretty drinkable, not overdone with the smoke flavor. Plus a lot of new beers are coming soon, even some wine barrel aged offerings. The tasting room is small with only a short bar and only two tables seating 6-8. No food here, but a great place to seek out after eating at Merwin's, Hooples, or other places up the hill. read more

Brick and barrel is a great new brewery! When you walk in your greeted by a warm open bar area, in the back is the brewery! The bar has chalkboard paint on it so you can draw away! They offer 8 different beers and a very tasty ginger beer! All but one beer is $5 a pint or a flight of 4 is $5. It's a great deal! I'm not a big beer drinker but l really enjoyed the chennen blonde!
