A few trips over recent months suggests to me that I should post chronologically, but I think writing reviews works best when posting the ones I want to write, either because I liked it so much or because it fits in with other similar venues I've recently posted about. CBBC in Cleveland was a little of both. I loved both visits here. While in town for a convention, I found this spot when googling nearby breweries. What a gem! Great food, great beer (and a nice range of styles), a big space, and right on the waterfront. A great bartender took care of me one evening, and then I persuaded a couple of us to head over for lunch (you know, dragged them out of the convention hotel and see a bit of the town) the next day. Pints, flights, half pours--they took care of us for sure. Very cool brewery across from the Flats on the river with a great view of the bridge and music venue. There's outdoor patio seating and plenty of indoor seating as well. Great selection of beer, although there were currently no hazy beer options available. They do also serve wine if that's more your speed! I came to Collision Bend Brewing Company for four reasons: 1) it's my birthday 2) I wanted to sit outside on the water and enjoy lunch 3) work toward my goal of sampling 26 local beers 4) strawberry soft serve. Here's what happened: I was told I couldn't sit outside because it was going to rain but I could sit in the atrium. I said ok and then it was aggressively suggested I sit at the bar since I was "just one." No thank you, I'll take the atrium. While this happened one lady answered the phone and the other attempted to supervise the call and steer me to the bar. The atrium is quite large and there were three parties, yet I was seated at the pinch point so the door was either at my back or I stared at a wall. Typical single diner shitty seating. I told a server I was uncomfortable and he quickly and kindly moved me. My server (Julia R) was quite nice and recommended the pulled pork quesadilla. Ok, I'll have that. The avocado crema was cold as it should be, the black beans room temp, pork kind of warm, cheese partially melted, pickled veg too salty and the tortillas on top pretty burnt and when I turned it over all the way burnt. Not the pretty golden brown of a properly cooked tortilla, but blistered and charred. I scraped everything out, asked for a warmed tortilla from the nice guy sever who offered to replace my lunch and with the quickly returned warm tortilla I salvaged my lunch. The website said they have strawberry soft serve, they don't and when I asked about it you would have thought I was attempting to broker a drug deal, "We DON'T HAVE soft serve." Ma'am I'm asking for food on your website not fentanyl. This was from the 3rd waitress, not the two younger nice ones. It never rained, the food was meh, the beer was good, the menu misrepresented, the washroom clean, the two women at the hostess stand rude, the lager tasty, and my sever and the guy server were great. Crap shoot, probably wouldn't try it again despite rock star parking. Also with all the door options take the 3% operating cost you charge and buy an "enter here" a-frame. Collision Bend is a trendy waterfront brewery in the Flats. Inside you'll find a large dining room, taproom, enclosed patio, and outdoor patio. The brewery features exposed brick walls and nautical themes. You can also find pinball machines in various parts of the brewery. In my humble opinion, it's one of the best sunset views in Cleveland. This brewery features a pretty extensive menu especially for a brewery. You can find greens, small plates, large plates, beer, wine, cocktails, desserts, and seltzers on the menu. If you're feeling adventurous, they have a small flight of beer. If you want to commit to a beer, there's a variety of choice from very hoppy to fruity. Tonight I paired Blackberry Sunset Fruited Wheat Ale with BBJ Burger. Wheat ale did not taste overwhelmingly sweet and was very smooth. BBJ was one of the best burgers I tasted in a while. Just really good quality beef. It was topped with a generous serving of bourbon apricot bacon jam. I ate every last crumb. It was that good. Highly recommend! Service at Collision Bend is consistently great. Management really seems to care about everyone having a great time. Tonight my order arrived almost instantly, which blew my mind. If you plan to go in the warmer months, prepare for a very lively and busy brewery. We picked Collusion for a quick drink on the water. Parking was easy with a $5/day lot nearby, and we enjoyed the short stroll along the river, lots to see between the boats, bridges, and little art installations. When we arrived, I hadn't realized this was more of a full, upscale restaurant than a casual "grab a drink and take in the view" spot. We had the kids with us and just wanted to sit outside, relax, and enjoy the scenery. Unfortunately, the service made things a bit uncomfortable. Our plan was simple: Mom & Dad grab drinks, kids could boat watch & color them-(since we had already had donuts and were saving room for pizza later with family.) But our waitress repeatedly tried to encourage my 4-year-old to order herself food (first popcorn, then fries, then dessert), even after I politely declined several times. It left us feeling awkward. The beers themselves were fine, I rated the IPAs 2/5stars) and the view was lovely, but the overall vibe just didn't fit what we were looking for. Everything we had was delicious. I have a problem with a lot of restaurants over salting their food and that was not the case here. The food was all seasoned perfectly. The roasted chic pea salad was one of the best salads I've ever had. The toasted boomer grilled cheese was excellent. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan dishes available. In every description we read of this restaurant it always noted that the facility could seat 200 people. Well, I'm not too sure how. I was in a party of 5 who,yes, came without a reservation around 2 on a busy Saturday afternoon which is not uncommon in the Flats. We gave our name and number with a proposed time of an hour wait. Ok. We wanted to walk around the area so it worked for us. Came back around an hour later and let the host know our whole party was there and ordered a drink at the bar. He stated great that we were next on the list. Through out the next 30 minutes we witnessed other groups of similar size being seated and we checked in with the host who finally confessed that reservations were always taken first ahead of walk ins. Well,to me at this point we were a reservation. We invested almost two hours in your restaurant and to be over looked in such a manor when we were "next on the list" was not professional. This bar was a little strange to me. Walked in on a Thursday afternoon at about 5pm to get a drink and food. I was initially impressed as it was huge place. They had vending machines on one side of the bar area and then a long bar with industrial like design. My friend and I sat down and waited. Now, I see this alot. Customer service isn't like it used to be. But I had to get someone's attention to come help us. There were maybe 7 people in the entire restaurant. The people were nice, but the service just wasn't there. The music they played was strange as well. They played like zen music that you would listen to when you're doing yoga. It just threw the vibe off for me. The food was okay. A little pricey. I ordered a personal pizza and a beer. At one point random bag pipers and a parade of Scottish people flooded through the restaurant. Everything about this place was just a little off. A friend and I decided to meet up downtown Cleveland to eat at a restaurant near the lake. Upon entrance we were happy to see that the place wasn't packed and the waitress proceeded to take us to outdoor seating. We sat outside for a good 15 minutes until we realized that this outside seating wasn't what we had in mind because of the "new bugs" that are now flying everywhere close to the lake. This is no fault of the restaurant however we proceeded back indoors to finish off our drinks and reviewing the menu. Once inside we asked the waiter about a few items on the menu. It didn't matter we liked that it was crowded or loud. We tried the patio first and although I love eating outside, those lantern bugs drove us back inside, they were EVERYWHERE! We come in and sit in the enclosed veranda area, so we could still see the water, but were insulated from the bugs. We did have a few birds visiting though, lol. We started with a refreshing drink that I can't remember the name of but it had tequila in it and it reminded me of a mojito. Then I ended with one that had basil and cucumber and was more like a martini. We both got the 420 style fries. I replaced the cheese sauce with real cheese blend and also ordered a side salad with the balsamic reduction (the soy ginger tasted like straight soy sauce ). Our server was not super friendly, but wasn't unpleasant. We joked that after we pointed it out to each other, he must've heard us because he seem to pick up the attentiveness and revisited us more (it was close to tip time). We tried two apps Sauerkraut Balls - good, but not enough kraut , and the Everything Pretzel that was absolute perfection. One of our group said it was the best pretzel he's ever had. I'd have to say I agree and I have had more than my share of pretzels over the years. For our meals? We had three smash burgers, one Mellow Mushroom Pizza, and a B.B.J. Burger. All good choices. Nate was really hungry and he liked the nachos, but I wanted more cheese sauce and the blackened chicken had a warming spice that I didn't love, probably cinnamon. The vegetable poke bowl had lots of fresh veggies and a bit of crunch from corn nuts, but there was a lot of the soy sauce-based dressing which was a bit too salty for me.
