Checked out the new Brick & Brew in Havertown with the family last night. Very Center City vibe to the design of the place. Best described as upscale pub food. Right in the heart of Havertown on Eagle Road. Was formally the Oakmont Pub. I had the burger special which had shaved pork belly, gouda cheese and a grilled green tomato served on a croissant which was somewhat unique. I ordered it medium and it came out more on the well side. Overall an interesting take on the burger. I would give it a 3 out of 5. The rest of the family ordered pizza: four cheese pizza (daughter), spicy sausage pizza (son), wild mushroom pizza (wife). My wife and son gave their pizzas a thumbs up. I tried my wife's and would give it a solid 4 out of 5 as it was served with three kinds of mushrooms, goat cheese and pesto. Very good. My daughter's pizza came out a good seven minutes after all of our food was served which was disappointing. An alert manager noticed the situation and proactively came to our table to provide an update. It turned out the pizza was not up to the B&B quality standard so they started a new one for her. We were provided another update as apparently the second pizza they made for her was a dud so they finally got it right on the third time. I certainly appreciate them not serving a pizza that was not to their standard of quality. My daughter was expecting the pizza to be a red pizza but the four cheese pizza is a white pizza. She asked for a side of red sauce which came out a few minutes later. I must admit I was surprised to see a charge for this additional sauce on our bill especially after the long delay in serving her pizza and the fact that the menu did not indicate that the pizza was a white pizza. In my view, that is an easy comp. We also ordered the weekly wing special which was buffalo maple horseradish sauce. I must admit that I am a bit of a wing connoisseur and can be picky when it comes to grading wings however - and my 18 year old son would back me up on this - these wings may have been the best wings I have ever had. The meat literally fell off the bone and the wings were sauced perfectly - not swimming in sauce like some places serve them. Well done B&B and you may consider adding those wings to your permanent menu (5 of 5). With the word Brew in your name, I expect a well curated and lengthy craft beer list and Brick & Brew's is not. Maybe they are still working on it but the list of IPAs was underwhelming. I had a Troeg's Nugget Nectar and a Levante Tickle Parts, both fantastic beers but I was hoping to find something from a little off the beaten path or something that I never had before. Other locals served on the list included 2SP and DogfishHead. My wife had one of their signature cocktails - the Darby Road which is served with prosecco and an orange liqueur. There may have been something else in it as well. She gave it a thumbs up. The overall interior was fantastic. As I mentioned above, it had a Center City design vibe with large chandeliers over the bar area and tree branches and greenery weaving their way up the walls and ceiling. Tin ceilings and large windows also add to the pleasant interior. A lot of hard surfaces so somewhat loud though we had no problem carrying on a conversation. Each table had clear plastic dividers between each other and the staff was all wearing masks and appeared to be cognizant of current regulations as someone tried to order a drink at the bar but was denied. Below is my final score for the Brick & Brew in Havertown. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I am sure it will continue to improve and work out its wrinkles. A solid 4.5 with the only real flaw being that the small space does make dining kind of cramped together. But between the solid beer list, interesting cocktails, amicable cheese/charcuterie offerings, wood fired pizzas, and a well rounded food menu Brick & Brew definitely has enough on its plate to make it a solid dinner & drink destination. During the two visits I've had I've been treated to service that went above and beyond and provided spot on recommendations. I've also savored incredible brews like Southern Tier's Creme Brulee Stout, and 21st Amendment's He Said Belgian Tripel from their impressive rotating list of craft drafts. With a well rounded menu that touts plenty of pizzas, sandwiches, salads, and then some its pretty tricky to choose what to order at times. But so far I've enjoyed the following: Deviled Eggs - with a spicy avocado crema and a grilled shrimp on top these definitely aren't the deviled eggs that you grew up with. While most bold ingredients can succeed at ruining such a simple dish, these deliver! Crab Dip - the cheddar and chive infused crab dip is so addicting that you might find yourself contemplating licking the bowl with little shame after you run out of grilled pita bread squares. Sausage, Potato, & Egg Pizza - one of their many diverse pizza selections that deluiver upon bold flavors and ingredients, especially with the fontina cheese and cremini mushrooms that accompany the big three ingredients. The only real flaw I found was the execution of the over easy egg largely being placed on one slice as opposed to the center of the pie. So instead of having the yolk ooze with perfection, it just took up the space of one single slice. Bison sliders - compared to regular sized burgers, most sliders just aren't usually that inspiring. But with goat cheese spread, caramelized onions, and whisky cranberry barbecue sauce sitting atop perfectly cooked bison patties; these managed to rival most regular sized burgers! With plenty of rotating drafts, a menu that adds on plenty of intriguing specials and regular items that change with the season, and a second location coming to Media in the not too distant future; Brick & Brew is just one of those elevated neighborhood bars that have you coming back for more! read more

Keyword: Specialty Cocktails. I know, I know, everyone comes here for selection of craft brew and their brick oven pizza. It's all in the name, right? No, it gets better. Their specialty drinks are some of the best in the area. You will find Havertown Social, my favorite drink here, one of the most refreshing drinks you'd ever have (and make sure Joe makes it for you). Yes it's expensive, but so is Hendricks Gin and St. Germain. They don't skimp on their drinks so they deserve every penny you pay. The same goes with Speakeasy, Mahnattan and their Seasonal Margarita. Please take a minute and look at the board for food specials. They're fantastic and consistently 5 stars. Innovative, unique, fun and delicious. I especially love their seafood items. For their pizza, I have 2 go-to's: pulled pork pizza - 5 stars. tender and flavorful BBQ pork, and the over and easy egg made it very French. Wild Mushroom -- - 5 stars. Local grown mushrooms made it very fresh. Service is good considering how busy it could get. That's the reason I had to take off 1 star - the limited space makes the wait impossible at times. The stars do not reflect my feeling on the restaurant itself. Love the food, drinks, and servers. My issue is with the inability to make a friggin reservation. My family and I, 6 of us this time, had dinner here and everyone loved it. We have tried to return FOUR times, and can't get a table. I've tried multiple times to reserve a table, and you simply refuse to take reservations. I have officially given up trying to patronize this establishment. If this is somehow an error, or if there's something I'm missing, please contact me, as we would love to return. But I can't guarantee I can get to a restaurant at 5 to hold a table for 9 people (the usual number of us) when we can't all get there until 7. Kind of ridiculous, in my opinion. Hi, Brian. I'm a bit surprised about some of the reviews of this restaurant....many have rated it a four or a five. One review said "no reason to go into the city". And most raved about the food. Perhaps we had a different experience or more likely, so many in the suburbs have come to accept mediocrity. Our visit was a Saturday afternoon around 2:00pm; B&B was our third stop as the first two were definitely what I would consider the typical Delco restaurant, therefore we left. When we walked in we were impressed with the environment, there were a few tables and four or five people around the bar...usually a good sign. An employee came up that was very polite and helped us grab two stools at the bar...again another good sign. The bartender was extremely nice, got our drinks right away and offered us menus....so far this was turning into a great experience. I was very impressed with the selection of not only craft beer, but whiskey's (including rye) and scotch. I said to my wife "I could get used to it here". We decided to start with a special listed on their chalkboard wall, the pineapple and habanero chicken wings. When they arrived they looked phenomenal, however, after one bite we looked at each other and said the same thing "these are pretty bad...in fact the worst we've ever had". The sauce was as expected, sweet with a nice amount of heat; the actual wings on the other hand tasted as if they were bought earlier at the Giant down the road and kept warm all day. They weren't even hot which told me they were being held in a warmer...350 degree grease does not yield a luke warm wing. We did decide to give the restaurant one more chance and ordered the porchetta sandwich and the mushroom pizza. It did take some time for the food to arrive...approximately 25 - 30 minutes; we filled this time discussing why we decided not to just drive the five mile drive into the city for a GREAT meal. When our sandwich and pizza arrived they did look very good. I tried a fry (and as many others have said are hand cut in house) and it was hot, crispy and seasoned perfectly...okay, we're back on track. I tried the porchetta sandwich and it was decent, the prochetta was extremely fatty (I'm guessing it may have been the belly section served) and the bread was toasted a little too long. The menu stated that it came with a long hot sauce which I couldn't for the life of me find. The pizza looked good, it was also cooked in the stone oven in the back of the dining room...only problem is that when a slice was picked up it was extremely limp. The flavors were decent but the entire point of a brick oven pizza is a crispy crust. All in all the food was mediocre at best. The service was great and the atmosphere is cool. Will I go back...maybe but just for a beverage. The more important point to understand is that Havertown is just minutes from some of the best restaurants in the country. It seems that many of the suburbanites have lowered their standards and try to perpetuate that the culinary scene in Delco/the Main Line is better than it truly is. I challenge you to stop accepting mediocrity...drive the few miles into Philly and try some real food. In most cases the prices are the same if not cheaper and you'll actually learn what "really good" is and what deserves four or five stars. read more

So happy I'm in walking distance to excellent selection of craft beer. Bottle selection is great with lots of my favorites. Decent number of taps with a wide variety of types of beers. Top shelf liquor is used for their mixed specialty drinks. Their special cocktails are very innovative- not sure when the last time I had a Pimms cocktail. The bartenders are friendly and very attentive. If you are looking for Miller Lite specials or other mainstream beer I'd recommend you head to Barnaby's or maybe JD McGillicuddy's. The menu has quality, healthy ingredients and not your usual fried/frozen bar food. I'd categorize the food as close to Iron Hill. I ordered the Beet Salad and it was delicious and fresh. The Grilled Cheese had a delicious mix of cheese on thick toast that was awesome comfort food. My favorite are the wings - if you like wet wings these are nice size and well spiced with cayenne. I've also tried the Fried Chicken sandwich that has a fresh battered chicken breast, delicious chili garlic aioli and a vinaigrette slaw that out ranks the boring grilled chicken breast sandwich at most of the other bars around here. The place is small but has sliding doors in front that makes the space feel open and not claustrophobic. The decor is modern with a Prohibition theme and kinda reminds me of some bars in Rittenhouse. Sorry, not being a native Havertownian, I'm glad to see that the town is developing into a modern, dynamic community. I have been here at least 3 times, and I haven't been impressed with any of my visits. It's a great idea - and I love that there's an option for craft beers and food in havertown, but I just don't get what the hype is about the place. I hear from so many people that they love it here. I've had the pizza and a burger and some appetizers, the food is just okay and it's a super tiny space. I always see people eating outside and the inside is always packed, so many I've just had a few "off" visits. I'll definitely give them another try, but I'm not dying to go back there anytime super soon. read more

Had a lovely outdoor dining experience at Brick and Brew on a Sunday afternoon. They have so many cool food options we can't wait to come back and try. Our meals started off with a lovely Ricky Pickmeup tea, which had just the right amount of sweetness and mint to be super refreshing. I ordered the wild mushroom pizza which is definitely shareable and too much food unless you're a really hungry person. Great flavor and nice quantity of mushrooms. My spouse got the calamari salad, which she really enjoyed. There was good quantity of calamari, which were crispy and the right amount of breeding. Our friends got the Prosciutto fries and the Pineapple Pulled Pork Flatbread. The flatbread was a fantastic combination of flavors and was great to share, though not as much bulk as the pizza. Fries were good but you definitely need a fork to eat them (see pictures). The staff was friendly and attentive and our waiter Maui was great! We just had a great dinner here! Our waiter, Tom, was very friendly and attentive. He gave me a sample of a new beer before I paid for one - just in case. This restaurant is an excellent addition to Havertown. They have an interesting and delicious menu with a constantly rotating draft beer menu and their specials are always deliciously unique. Tonight I had the butternut squash soup with jumbo lump crabmeat and a fraiché and my boyfriend had the hot wings. Both were awesome. Found this gem as I was scrolling through Yelp looking for something new to try near me. Only a 20 minute drive (and they're opening in Media in June/July)! Went with my husband around 630pm on a Saturday. Wait was only 20 minutes so we sat at the bar until our table was ready. Atmosphere: small and cute. Love the decor. Outdoor seating during warm weather. Gets crowded and loud but I didn't mind at all. Seems like you can expect to wait but can kill time (even order food) at the bar while you do. Drinks: We had whiskey sours, an old fashioned and the speakeasy. The whiskey sour and speakeasy are definitely as delicious as everyone describes. Order them! Appetizer: we split the Confit Wings. Amazing flavor, too spicy for me but my husband ate all of the ones that I couldn't. Entree: we split the short rib grilled cheese. Seriously delicious. The jalapeño jam on it is not too spicy at all and adds a great flavor. The homemade ketchup is very unique and yummy as well. Dessert: my husband had the fried cheesecake, which he enjoyed. I ordered the cookie and I'm telling you it's the best dessert I've ever had at any restaurant ever. Get. The. Cookie. (Save room for it!!!) Came here while visiting family nearby - wish it were in our area (California)! We had the 4 cheese pizza and the Madison Burger. The pizza was very good, but it had way too much ricotta, so I scooped that off. I love the jars of condiments - red pepper flakes and parmesan. The burger was excellent and the fries were seasoned well. Had to laugh when we found out there is no coffee or tea served here - thought we might have that with dessert, but not so much. This spot is always packed for good reason. They change the food selections a bit so it's disappointing when I found something I love to be gone in a week; However, it's always delicious. The only two drawbacks are the size which they are correcting with the new location, and the limit of food/drink items. Much better than I was expecting. Service was very nice and friendly, and nice to be able to eat outside in the shade even though it isn't a big place. Some interesting beer selections, although not many wheat beers options in the summer. They had a number of cocktail options. The prosciutto and fig pizza was very good, the black pepper honey really made it with an interesting combination of flavors. It was my first time eating at this restaurant, the food and the waitress service was my overall rating. However, the wait to get a table was ridiculous. I waited more than almost and hour for a table. The food is good and the atmosphere was nice. They just need to work on the whole sitting customers down and I think they'll be a 5 Star. I came here for lunch with a few friends today, and overall everything was great. I've been here before a few times, and have also been to their location in Media. We got there a little before opening, but the staff were welcoming and got us started with drinks until the kitchen opened. They have a good beer selection, and I went with the 2SP Delco Lager which I've had before and like. I love that they have some local beers on the menu. For lunch, I had the Brick n Brew burger, it was cooked perfectly, though I didn't like the flavor of the pepperoncini relish on it, so I just didn't eat that half of the bun. Their fries here are AMAZING. My friends had veggie burgers, a special burger and a perogie special and everyone loved their food. Our server was really friendly and even helped us hide our beers when our bosses showed up for lunch!!! read more
