4 stars for the food, but 2 stars for the service. My wife and I visited on 2/28, and when we arrived we got the expected hour-ish wait, which we considered totally normal for a Saturday night given that they don't take reservations. We edged towards the bar, a tight space but workable, and were lucky enough to get seats at the bar after 20 minutes of keeping an eye out for folks that seemed to be finishing up. At the bar, we enjoyed an appetizer (wings that had some type of interesting bacon-based sauce) and craft beers. That's when things get a bit strange. A couple next to us asked if we had checked to make sure if we were still on the list for a table -- we said that we presumed we were, we had watched as we'd been added to the list upon arriving. They mentioned that they did the same, only to find that they had been crossed off the list for some reason, which they found out after checking in during what they thought was an unusually long wait. We presumed that was an anomaly and didn't think much of it. However, 30 minutes later, we thought we'd check how close were were to the top of the list, and what do you know, we too had been crossed off the list for some reason. Of course we expressed our desire to get back on the list and be seated soon. However, having given up our bar seats to check on our position on the list, we were now in a prime position to see the logistical problem that was creating this "crossed off the list" situation. We watched as the maitre de looked for a group under a particular name Shannon, but his technique was to walk behind the two-deep crowd at the bar, and in the midst of the normal roar of conversation, to speak the name in the lightest imaginable voice a few times. Shannon, wherever you are, just know that you were at least the third table of the night to not be found and therefore to be crossed off the list... because I watched as not a soul heard the maitre de say "Shannon", let alone the intended couple that may well have been sitting at the bar. At this point we were a bit impatient because we felt that a fundamental part of the maitre de role is to be able to find the groups that are next to be seated. After expressing our impatience, we were seated rather speedily, which I appreciated. However, we were seated at the elbow of the pizza bar, in a seating arrangement that bears a striking resemblance to sitting at any typical bar -- high seats, countertop-style space, staff behind the bar, and fellow patrons elbow-to-elbow. Had I known that during our hour-long wait at the front bar, that we were in actuality just waiting for a seat at a similar bar in the back, I suppose we would have just moved forward with dining at the bar that we were originally seated at. Why wait for an hour just for a seat at an equivalent seating type, elsewhere in the restaurant? We enjoyed the butternut squash soup and two of their craft pizzas, I don't recall which ones they were in particular but they were definitely tasty -- no problem with the food. Summary: 1) If you are at the bar, send one member of your team frequently to check if you are still on the list 2) If you are fortunate enough to get a seat at the front bar, consider eating your meal there, because waiting for your "table" might end up leading you to the pizza bar that is in my opinion an equivalent experience. Therefore, save the time of waiting, and go ahead and order where you are at. 3) The food is unique, interesting, and tasty -- especially the butternut squash soup. Revisiting Brick & Brew is low on my wish list, because it's scarce enough to have time for a good night out, and poor logistics (even if the food is good) are a substantial distraction from what could otherwise be a great experience. read more

Don't know how their chef keeps coming up with his ideas, but I hope he never stops. We had the deviled eggs and bacon as appetizers and they were a great start. For the travel, I and my friend each had the short rib grilled cheese, which was absolutely delicious. Her boyfriend had the special burger, loaded with meat ON TOP of the burger pattie, and he said it was delicious. My wife had the margherita pizza, and she deemed it very good, with fresh and tasty toppings. The beer tap choices were a little too Millenial for me, and bottle choices didn't suit me much better, but I settled on a Yards beer. Place is small but very inviting, and service was friendly. Just when I thought this place was already the best ever and couldn't get any better!!! BAM! Surprise!!! Got extra more happy stars and greatest vibes points!!! The specials are insanely tasty, the staff makes us feel like family no matter what day we show up and how small or huge our table is, plus their mussels are a yes please all the time we go there! But tonight we sat at the "pizza bar area" and chef Tim went the extra mile and asked our daughter if she would like to make her own pizza! His kindness and superb generosity and happy vibes are beyond anything we've seen before! We are so grateful to everybody that works so hard at Brick and Brew so we can have a great time and taste the best food ever! Food was tasty, beer selection good. Service was very poor. Server and bartender were overbearing and annoying. I couldn't enjoy myself because they wouldn't leave us alone. Worse than that, they talked up some bottles of beer but said nothing about the prices. They were also quite vague about the sizes so I ordered a 25oz bottle being none the wiser. THEN I had to pay 16 and 17 dollars respectively for two beers. And they told me NOThing. Discourteous. Faux hip. Not going back. read more

Have been back to Brick & Brew several times times since our initial New Year's Day visit. The fried chicken sandwich is really good and equalled by the accompanying hand-cut fries. Tried the wings tonight and they are fall off the bone tender. Great beer and whisky selection too. Since my last review they have the beers on tap listed on chalk boards up on the wall which makes it easy to see what's on offer if you're not sitting at the bar. Definitely the current go to spot in Havertown. The Crossbar across the street is a similarly rustic bar but the menu is more limited. The nearby Oakmont is fine for a beer, but the food is poor. Good to finally see some new competitive options for the good people of Havertown, especially for a lunch or dinner. read more

It was a snowy night and we didn't want to go too far so we found B&B on Yelp. The ambience is great and we loved the decor. Surprised to see a restaurant like this in Havertown. For drinks I ordered Blanton's which is a wonderful bourbon. We ordered the beet salad which was really good, the ricotta and goat cheese bring this salad together. The tanginess of the goat cheese complimented the beets well. The hummus was okay, not a fan of hummus made from white beans. We waited a very long time for the pizza to arrive. We wondered if they forgot or were having problems in the kitchen. We ordered the short rib and the crab. The short rib needed more flavor and it was dry, I was disappointed. The crust was thin and crispy. My wife's crab pizza was also dry and lacking salt. This is a nice option for Havertown and a few things would make this place really good. For example our water was served in plastic cups, glass would be more appropriate. How about cloth napkins instead of paper napkins? All in all I would go back and get apps and not the pizza. We found the service to be good, our waiter was helpful and polite. read more

I stopped in after work last night around 10:30 for some food and drink and was greeted nicely by the bartenders when sitting at the bar. That gave me a very good vibe right away about Brick and Brew. The ambiance of the place is really nice and the draft beer selection and whiskey selection was for the serious minded and sophisticated which I like. Kelsey, my bartender was very well versed in the food and whiskey choices and suggested the wings and the single malt scotch that I ordered. She was right on the mark as the wings were so tender and good with a little kick as well. The service was fantastic and I am looking forward to returning to sample some other food. You guys are doing a great job here so keep doing what you are doing! read more

The staff was delightful & our waiter was especially attentive considering it was a busy Saturday night. Drink menu was extensive & my Manhattan was the best!  Our food was delicious, especially the roasted Brussel-sprouts & the beef brisket on brioche roll, & the Caramel beignets for dessert were beyond awesome.  My only real disappointment though was the fact that they don't serve coffee here at all, which I have never experienced before at a restaurant.  This may be a deal-breaker for me, but because my entire experience at Brick & Brew was so enjoyable, I'll just have to return & hope that maybe coffee has been added to the menu... read more

Best bar food and beer selection I'm aware of that's not in the city or Theresa's in Wayne. Everything is fresh, scratch made...even the ketchup! Although, what's with Summer Shandy on the current beer list? A gimmicky and strange choice among a range of quality discerning beers. Would love to see our local brewery Tired Hands tapped here, but not sure if TH is in that business. Wouldn't mind seeing them take another crack at brunch now that the weather is warmer. Went on a Wednesday night before meeting friends and it was packed! We sat at the hearth, which was fine with us, but you need to remember you're sitting a few feet away from a 1000 degree pizza oven so it can get hot. Also, this is not a good place to come if you're looking for an intimate conversation--it's hopping, and loud. Thankfully, none of those things were issues for us! One of the specials was poutine (fries with gravy, cheese curd, and they added bacon) and it was one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth. Amazing. For dinner I had the fried chicken sandwich, which was delicious, and my husband had the Italian burger, which he said was the best burger he's ever had in his life. We chatted off and on with the pizza chef, who was super friendly. The executive chef also popped by a few times and even offered us a taste of duck prosciutto. The beer list is great. I had a watermelon lager and it was super yummy. Service is a little slow--but the place was jam-packed and the waitresses were hustling, so I chalked it up to the busyness of the place. It was never slow to the point of having to flag our waitress down, and she was extremely friendly. We can't wait to go back! read more

I had a chance to go back to the Brick and Brew again for dinner. I have to say it was really good! Greatly improved from it's first few months. I took my friend there for her birthday and we shared a few dishes. The Mussels were small but very tasty, the broth perfect for dunking the bread that came with the dish. She ordered the sun-dried tomato flat bread. I am not a fan of sun-dried tomatoes however this was very good. I wanted to try the Lobster Mac and Cheese and again really good, great flavor. I would have liked to see more lobster though! I almost forgot to mention....a great beer selection also! The only issue is the size of the restaurant, it is very small but they do have outside seating so all in all a great place to have dinner. read more

Detailed. That's the best word to describe Brick & Brew. They've got the three D's down pat: Decor, Drinks, and Dishes. Wings are confit'ed before fried. Personally, doing this causes the meat to lose the "juice" necessary for a great wing. It does however speak to the thoughtfulness placed in trying to re-invent the standard wing. I would prefer the head chef X'ed this step out of the equation. In my opinion, one never compromises food's freshness! The brown-butter hot sauce is solid. The side of blue cheese has a milky, thin texture with a nice sweet, I'm going to say, honey accent. Being completely honest, I put the cup to my mouth and drank what was remaining after wings and celery sticks had been eaten. The beet salad was a winner. Simply stated, if your there and want a healthy kick, get this salad. You'll be very happy. For the more detail-oriented foodies, you'll appreciate that this dish is a 4-part construction. Part 1: You've got a basic mixed greens and radicchio tossed in a light balsamic/olive oil dressing. Part 2: Freshly-boiled, golden beets are cooked tender and left undressed and un-pickled. This nicely preserves the natural flavor of the beets, allowing their flavor to remain prominent against the bolder sweet and sour accents. They're tossed into the mix. Part 3: Crumbled, creamy goat's milk chèvre and candied, I want to say, walnuts are also tossed into the salad. This is a nice play between sour, salty and sweet/crunchy and soft-textured bites. Part 4: A second chèvre is painted onto the dish. The chèvre is mixed with a sweetener, honey I believe, warmed (maybe it was the plate), and paint-stroked onto the dish. It's a really nice touch falling in line with the rest of the dish's flavors. Again, nice attention to detail. It gives the dish an added dimension that many venues simply wouldn't take the time to consider. Forking the beets and mopping up this chèvre leaves the mouth feeling happy, happy. As for drinks, didn't have a chance to try. However, I'll be back for round two at this place for sure. read more

I'm so glad a place like this has come into Havertown! A friend and I enjoyed dinner there last night on a friend's recommendation. While we did wait for a bit, the ambiance, service, and meal were fantastic. I enjoyed two of their beers and while completely different styles, both were delicious. We sat at the bar by the brick oven and enjoyed chatting with and the recommendations of the gentleman manning the oven. We split the brussel sprouts, the fried chicken sandwich with fries, and the parma pizza. While all very good, allow me a moment to wax eloquently over the sandwich. It was fantastic! The slaw was refreshing, the chicken moist and lightly coated, and chili aioli gave it a nice kick. While we were waiting for a table, one of the servers saw I was having trouble getting to the bar to order a drink and made sure I was taken care of immediately. While the wait staff was very busy, they ensured we had enough to eat, drink, and were generally pleased. I'll definitely be back! read more

This place was amazing. Took a girl here on a first date, she was very impressed by the choice!! Customer service was amazing. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Suggested a great beer choice as well. Decor of the place was nice. Building of bricks, clever. Very relaxing, classy and laid back spot. Would suggest for a date spot. They have a lot of food variety here. My date and I ended up splitting the mussels which were amazing along with its sauce. Lobster mac and cheese was really good coming from someone who doesn't eat mac and cheese and also split a caprese piazza. Been to Italy and had great NY pizza, this was very good. Went to dinner with my wife the other night and sat outside. The atmosphere for the evening was great due to the nice weather. We decided to sit outside because there were no tables available inside. Our food was amazing. I had the brussel sprout and lobster mac & cheese. My wife ordered the crab dip with flatbread and we shared a white pizza. The only issue that keeps me from giving five stars is that our food came out very quickly before we were done our plates in front of us. The service was exceptional and apologized for the kitchen sending the food so quick. We live within walking distance and will certainly be back in the future. I found in this place two of my favorite things: brick oven pizzas and craft beer. And bother were delicious! They had a great tap list, but its seems their thing is cocktails. Everyone wanted a whiskey sour. I had the Parma pizza. I was a little hesitant about basically a salad (arugula) on a pizza, but that with the prosciutto actually worked. I went here with my boyfriend on a Friday night in the dead of winter when we had recently moved to the area. It was later in the evening and we were looking for someplace we could enjoy a meal and few drinks without being kicked out at 11pm. We definitely found what we were looking for at Brick & Brew! The space is quite small, which is probably the only negative. It looks like an old firehouse/lodge, with bar seating in the front and the back and tables in between. The back bar offers views of the wood-fire pizza ovens where you can watch the chefs. The wait was over an hour for a table, but luckily a couple was just leaving at the front bar so we slid right in. We had vodka sodas- so I can't comment on the beer, however the food was surprisingly really good! We had calamari to start and then split a pizza and sliders. The food was better than regular bar fare for sure, but doesn't get too adventurous with the menu. The ambience definitely is what leads to repeat customers. The bartenders are super friendly and everyone is just there for a relaxed good time. It seemed like a lot of young dads just trying to get out for a bit. After a wonderful time and dining at this restaurant on darby road, we returned to their new location on eagles road. Arrived a little after 1 pm and stood in line behind 2 people. Never acknowledged by 3 hostesses, one on the phone and the other 2 in deep conversation. We were finally acknowledged, informed there was 2 people ahead of us and have a seat. Minutes later the same hostess us unfortunately due to reservations we couldn't be seated until 3.15!!! "Did we want to wait or come back?" We left not to ever return again!
