We went around 4 pm on a saturday afternoon for drinks and apps after failing to get a seat the week prior on a Friday night. Even at 4 pm, this place was busy! We were seated and our waitress Dana approached our table. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had such a pleasant and attentive server. She was truly excellent. Their draft list rotates and has some very unique brews on it, and their craft cocktail menu has some classics but also some innovative cocktails. We ordered a few stouts, a dunkelweisen and a couple cocktails. I cannot attest to entrees, as we just ordered apps to share at the table, but everything that came out of the kitchen looked and smelled delicious. We ordered the 1. dinosaur thick cut bacon-the sriracha sauce was a nice complement to the tender slab of bacon. 2. Grilled octopus-I'm a sucker for grilled octopus. This was tender and paired with chorizo and white beans- a nice spin on a Mediterranean classic. 3. Crab dip- very decadent but about what I expected it to be 4. Mussels- these were delicious! The broth had so much depth of flavor and i could have drank the broth 5. Prosciutto fries- the star of this dish was surprisingly the caramelized onions. The cheese and prosciutto fondue didn't have a ton of prosciutto flavor and was very rich, but the caramalized onions really brought everything into balance. I like the place, but it's a mixed bag. If you're looking for an overall even experience, don't look here. They really hit the highs and lows. The good ------------- -Beer selection! If you like more than one specific brand of beer and you can't find something you like here, it's just not possible to make you happy. -Decor. I really like what they have done with the place! -Interesting menu and nightly specials. -Prices are reasonable. It's not cheap, but it's not a cheap kind of place. The mixed --------------- -Service. Our waiter was friendly and personable, a really nice guy. We tip those kind of waiters 20%, and that's what he got. As a waiter, though, he was terrible. He didn't write anything down, taking a page from Four Seasons-type of places. Those waiters, though, can remember the order. He made several mistakes on our order. In addition, we asked for two things, and he forgot to bring them. He also neglected to ask us if we needed anything, even when our glasses were empty. Great guy, bad waiter. -One of our salads was drenched with so much dressing that it was inedible. The other salad was good, though. -It's a small place, and the chairs are stools (no backs). If you're a big person or have back trouble, make sure you wait for one of the few booth tables. The bad ------------ -The pizza. It's the worst brick oven pizza I have ever had. Bar none. I'm not exaggerating at all when I say that Chuck E. Cheese's pizza is better. It's a lot better. And Chuck E. Cheese's pizza is not as good as Ellio's frozen pizza. This is terrible pizza. The key ingredient for any well-made pizza is the crust. Their crust is too thin, and it's way undercooked. If I didn't see the oven, I would have guessed that it was cooked in a microwave. It has zero brick oven flavor. Next, the sauce. Oh, the sauce. The sauce on my margherita pizza tasted like canned tomato sauce, and it was sweet. I have eaten margherita pizza in Italy, and let me tell you: this sauce would make an Italian chef cry. The fresh mozzarella was good, though. The misnamed Tomato Pie was better because it had more cheese and less sauce. I agree with a reviewer above: the pizzas are ridiculously small. Next time ------------- The rest of my family doesn't want to go back, but I will. I like the idea of that kind of a restaurant in Havertown, and I want them to succeed. I obviously won't re-order the two pizzas I tried. I think I'll try one of the other pizzas, and I'll make sure it's covered with lots of stuff and less sauce. And, I'll share it with someone instead of making it my main meal. Their specials and sandwich selections look interesting, so maybe they're a safer bet than the pizzas. Good luck, Brick & Brew. I was so excited when this place opened and couldn't wait to try it! My fiancé and I live in Havertown and went there for dinner last night. The ambiance is great, the beer selection was phenomenal , and the menu was very exciting, I wanted to try everything! The staff was friendly too, but unfortunately, we were very disappointed with our meal. The butternut squash soup with crab meat was a squash flavored broth with a little bit of crab meat at the bottom, definitely not what I was expecting. Squash soup is usually thick, puréed squash not watery broth. The flavor was just ok. We also shared the fried pickles. They tasted good, but were very soggy and greasy. We shared the clam white pizza for our entree. I think there was maybe 3 small clams on the whole pizza, and four small dollops of ricotta cheese. It was basically like eating bread! Some slices had no cheese or clams on it, just a very thin layer of the sauce they used. I was still hungry after we ate, broth and bread was not what I wanted for dinner! Good thing the beer was delicious! We sat at the pizza bar, and the guy making the pizzas was very friendly, he apologized for the lack of clams and said they were running low on them. I feel that if you don't have enough ingredients to make an item on the menu, you should not serve it! It's much better to apologize and say you do not have an item on the menu rather than serving a product that is lacking. Also, they only had small bar napkins, not very effective when eating pizza and sandwiches. I was so disappointed! I was hoping this place would be great, it is so close to our house! I'll give it another shot, in hopes we just had bad luck with what we ordered. Hopefully we'll have a better experience next time. Had heard about Brick & Brew from a friend who lives in H-Town, so the wife and I took our 11-week old daughter with us when we dined there on a Friday night. We went earlyish, around 5:15pm, in hopes of avoiding the dinner rush and having a little space to maneuver the little one. We were seated right away, and Brett, our server, was fantastic. Great beer list, lots of good stuff on tap. He walked us through the new tapas menu, which looked good. In the end we decided on butternut squash soup and mussels to start with, and two pizzas. The soup was fantastic - flavorful, not super heavy or perfumey. The mussels were especially good - my wife usually isnt the biggest fan but she had all of her share. Her pizza was an autumn vegetable one, which she really enjoyed, while I took Brett's recommendation and stayed with the basic margarita pizza. Great ingredients, good individual portions, quick service. Very yummy. There wasn't much of a dessert menu, which was too bad, and it wasn't inexpensive - $80+ after tip for three brews, two soups, the mussels and the two pizzas, but we were both fans and we will totally be back. Great place. Will be going to just enjoy the bar and have a few drinks, as well. Really impressed with this new addition to the dining scene. Go and enjoy! We'll be back for sure. read more

Came with the family and apps were great then whole experience was derailed by the hour wait for 3 personal pizzas. The two tables that cycled in sitting behind us both complained about the wait. The first table was surprised about the price and honestly I'm not cheap either (I eat out in the city frequently and am accustomed to spending. $100 per person). but the bill came to 78 with 2 adults and a 2 year old. My boyfriend and I came here last Friday night for a late dinner around 9:00 - it was packed! They were able to seat us at the pizza bar though, which was great. I went with my husband and 5 yr old about 2 wks ago. We ordered the fried pickles (pretty good), butternut squash and crab soup(the crab almost ruined the delicious soup), a plain cheese pizza for the little one and a chicken/ pepper pizza. Stopped here one crowded evening, wasn't sure if it was worth the wait. We decided to stay and boy am I glad we did. We came by on a week when they allowed the servers to plan the menu. Each server had an app or a entree or burger or something that they created with the chef. Awesome concept! When our waiter was explaining everything that was available to us you could tell that he was genuinely excited to share with us the creations that were available. The food was top notch! Everything came out fresh, made to order, bursting with flavor and without delay. The fries, burger, and flat bread were all solid choices. They had an extensive beer list with plenty of cold beers on tap, including one of my favorites, Festina Peche by Dogfish Head beer. Can't wait to come back. The decor was a cool nod to the fact that this place used to be a firehouse. Wish it was a little less crowded but hey, the food is so good people line up down the street for it. read more

Best craft cocktails in Havertown! Brick n brew knows how to infuse liquor so that it takes on the natural flavor of the fruit/spice/herb. The grilled octopus with date ragu was out of this world tender and flavorful. Friends had the bison burger trio and who's your daddy burgers dripping with a fresh egg on a perfectly toasted brioche. Service was right on par and we were even able to try a beer before ordering. Great outdoor seating for the summer and you can even bring your pups. read more

Great beer, a wide selection, there's a lot of cool people here too, both customers and wait staff. The food is good. I do like the pizza; I am sucker for a good pizza. They make it in a gas fired brick oven, and you can sit at the back bar and watch the chef create the pies. The appetizers are good and nothing is overly priced. After a two hour visit to BB I am standing in my kitchen eating a peanut butter sandwich because the two pizzas and burger that my family and I ordered never arrived - all due to poor service. It seemed promising at first - we were immediately seated and placed drink and app orders. After our apps arrived, it was like we didn't exist and it took another 20 minutes for the waitress to take our dinner order. We were told several times our pizzas were in the oven. After seeing far too many orders go out and nothing at our table, we asked for our bill. When we told the waitress we were leaving, she actually asked if we wanted to have the food that never arrived taken off of our bill. It will be a long time before we even reconsider giving this place another try. read more

The management here needs to decide whether they want to be a restaurant or a bar. My family waited 90 mins to be seated for dinner. By then I was sleepy and wanted to go home to bed, and everyone else was famished and cranky. There were parties occupying tables as they nursed drinks, who should have been moved to the bar after they finished eating. The food was Ok but the service was abyssmal. This is a very good pizza place with excellent beers and cocktails. We split the cheesesteak egg roll special and the crab dip. Cheesesteak egg rolls had cheddar in them which made the very greasy (so much it was dripping off). Crab dip was great. We had the mushroom pizza. Very good crust and execution. Great new place in Havertown with well designed cocktails, an appealing menu, and the best whiskey selection in the area. The pizza is well made ( although often cooked a bit on the soft side...ask for pizza done crisp) and has great toppings. My favorite cocktail is the Capone; a habanero margarita with enough bite to be interesting but not scary. read more

Went here last night off a recommendation. We didn't even get a chance to try the food due to 1.) Long wait to be seated (Saturday night so that's expected) but 2.) There is a "first come, first serve" rotation they reported to have on a phone call I had with a young lady prior to inquire about the place before driving from Jersey. Well, we waited 30 minutes. A "3 top party" walks in.......literally waits 5 minutes and is seated. We were told that a "2 top isn't open" so that's the reason we weren't seated. We noticed a party of 2 seated at a "3 top table" right at the door so this was bull! Needless to say, we left and won't return. Shame. You came highly recommended but the aura felt like one of we weren't welcome. Oh well. read more

I am totally unhappy with the service I received yesterday at Brick and Brew. My family and I stopped in for a bite only to be treated like we did not belong in the establishment.My wife and son arrived first and found the place a little crowded. They took seats near the window. When I came, the waitress went to get another place for me (the table my wife and son were sitting at was made for two seats, but other tables were accommodated for three seats). 5 minutes later the manager shows up with my drink and complains about getting in trouble with her general manager because I am sitting near the door. After that everything we ordered was quickly brought to us to hurry us along. I had eaten there before and never treated like this., Needless to say, I am not going back nor can I recommend this place for anyone else to eat. read more

Im a fan. This is to say I enjoy the vibe, decor, and atmosphere. I am not the biggest fan of their food. I have been here many times, as a young adult in the company of my parents. That means I did not have to pay for any of the food, which also gives me the liberty to review purely the food, regardless of value for cost. That being said, the food is just so-so. The menu is enterprising and fun, constantly changing and the chef is constantly adding specials which, on paper, sound amazing. Chicken and Waffles, a hit or a miss item, miss. Homestyle churros, fried dough coated in sugar, resounding miss. Fried pickles, nothing bad to say about those actually. I have tried and tried again, but I have been overwhelmed with mediocrity. Stopped in for dinner with my fiancée. Had a beer and a margarita asked for first available seating. Waited 45 minutes to be told a table for two was given their check and we should be seated soon. Table finished dinner drinks and all sat for another half hour before we asked an extremely rude host if they were getting up soon or to check in. Her response was epic" we have a don't kick people out policy" , well dummy tell your boss people sitting done dinner and drinks should get up, make more money it's called business, just lost a 100 I would of spent. Won't be back again. gave her my drinks and left she asked if I paid my tab, come on lady do I look like I wouldn't, I probably shouldn't. Absolutely love it here. The regular menu is small but not lacking in variety or flavor. The specials are ever changing and never disappoint. My favs are the short rib pizza, the wings (they are so good and tender, the meat falls right off the bone), and the prosciutto fries. For dessert, try the cookie skillet....it is the best thing I've ever tasted! The place is small and charming, but can get crowded. We usually end up sitting by the pizza oven, which I prefer. The pizza chefs are always friendly and talkative, offering suggestions and asking if it's your first visit. The bar is always super busy but the service is great. Went there tonight for some light fare. Had an amazing small plate of warm crab dip and pita triangles. The dip was awesome full of flavor and trhe crab was very fresh. We also had the beef sliders.Not only were they delicious but the salad that was on the same plate separating the sliders was deleicious. The last thing that I would like to comment on is not just their wonderful selection of beer, but they also have a wide selection of whiskey. My boyfriend and I tried Brick and Brew for the first time on a Saturday night. There was a bit of a wait, but the hostess did a really good job of keeping us updated as to how many tables were ahead of us, and approximately how long the wait would be. We waited at the bar and were both impressed with the beer selection, and had a couple while we waited. We tried the prosciutto fries and wings for appetizers, which were both great. The wings are oven roasted and then flash-fried, which makes them fall completely off the bone. The wing sauce was spicy and delicious. For dinner, my boyfriend ordered the jumbo lump crab pizza with roasted asparagus and truffle cream. There was a ton of crab meat on it, and he loved it. I opted for the crab "PLT" which is jumbo lump crab with a fried green tomato, pancetta, and russian dressing. Holy mackerel was that delicious. And I got a side salad that was outstanding as well. Also, TRY THE PICKLES. Our waiter, Brett, was funny, attentive, and accommodating. Brett gets an A+. Overall, we had a great time, and we'll definitely be back. The one complaint we had was the music. They have a jukebox, but it's obviously set to some station that should be named "Delco Dive Bar." We had to hear Kid Rock (KID ROCK!?), Bon Jovi, and other dive bar favorites. It didn't fit the feel of the place at all. Step it up a notch with the music, guys. You're better than that. read more

Got takeout, 3 items friday night. Soppresata pizza, Burnt pork bites, both excellent. Only had a problem with buttermilk chicken sandwich. Felt it was overcooked and a bit spicy compared to previous sandwiches. Voiced my opinion to manager Friday night. Couldn't have asked for a better response from him. Brought it back and he promptly offered a comp for another time. As always, place was filled to capacity, can"t wait til Oakmont opens! I live downtown and thought the pricing here was a little steep for what everything is. But this place has the best fries; if you order the prosciutto fries, get the cheese and onions on the side so they don't get soggy. The wedge salad claims to have Gorgonzola in it but the dressing is totally lackluster and barely taste like blue cheese or anything at all. Meh. Bacon in it was meh, apples and radishes were okay but it needed somethings else. The dressing was lacking any vinegar or acid. Great beer selection. Didn't try cocktails. I've been driving by the Brick and Brew for a few months now, and always wanted to try it. I went with a group of seven, so I got to try a lot of dishes. The pizzas are wonderful crisp thin crust with a nice selection of toppings. The chicken with hot peppers was my favorite. Tender smoked chicken and caramelized hot peppers with a bit of sweetness. Pizzas feed about 1.5 adults. The salads and brussels sprouts were also great. The beer selection has many great choices, and there is a full bar with a good range of ryes, whiskeys and bourbons. We had a couple of tweens with us and they had a great time too. I wouldn't take little kids, but over 10 seems fine, especially on the early side. Service was good with them bringing out a steady stream of dishes. Well paced. Definitely going back. read more

Decent food and large selection of beer on tap. Fairly small menu but everyone enjoyed their food. They give a large pile of fries with the burgers. My only negative comment on the pizza is the crust is cooked so hard it is like eating a cracker. It is tasty and I expect brick oven pizza to be the thinner crust but they take it to the extreme. The place is small and intimate. Parking can be a issue but if you frequent the main line area you are used to it. Our server was very good. And I think they gave the person in our group who was trying to make reservations a problem with holding a table for 5 minutes. With the size of the place I can understand them not taking reservations, so no big deal. It was a slow night anyway. read more

While visiting my son in the area, we had lunch at Brick and Brew. Nice atmosphere, great Whiskey and beer selection and very good service. Some of our selections were pretty good, the veggie panini and the bison sliders. Fries were cooked well but they offered only their "house made" Ketchup. It was too vinegary but was good with the fries. (Not sure why ANY restaurant would try to reinvent Ketchup when Heinz has already perfected it.) I had the "PLT" sandwich (a play on the BLT) which was ill-conceived and should be overhauled. It had pancetta instead of bacon (which was really flavorful), a fried green tomato and crab meat on a hoagie roll with shredded lettuce. It was so "heavy" tasting that the crab meat got completely lost. If I were to adjust the recipe, I'd use fresh tomatoes, larger pieces of lettuce in stead of the shredded, a lighter bread like Texas toast with some mayo on the side. As far as the crab meat, it might work without the fried green tomatoes but it is a total waste of good crab to put it on the current version. I would recommend this restaurant, it's a nice cozy spot and has a great variety of offerings, but just stay away from the "PLT" Lol! read more

Brought my family here from out of town during a visit. Would usually come here at least twice a month and was excited to bring them. My boyfriend even bought a sweatshirt that will be thrown away after this experience!! Was told it would be a 30 minute wait and waited over an hour. Staff was rude and non accommodating, yelled and used harsh language to my parents. Very small place, SLOW service (obviously), rude staff, and expensive food. Will never go back after such a terrible experience. Avoid at all costs! read more
