One of my favorite go to lunch or takeout places in town. I don't think we can not somehow end up there when my mom comes into town for a couple of days. Better yet, it is consistently ALWAYS excellent. I love sitting outside at the MB location and have ordered takeout from both before the downtown location closed. Service is always friendly and quick. Compared to other places that I pick up food from, the food is always ready when I get there! I appreciate that even though it is more of a lunch place, there is an ample drink menu if you're there for dinner or just having a relaxing lunch. Almost everything is good there, but my faves are the brisket sandwich, the bluebird, the mayflower, and the extra 3$ to get the seasonal salad or Mac and cheese as a side is ALWAYS worth it. Definitely recommend for pickup when you want something a little healthier but super delicious. Also I can't wait to try their new concept, bowl, which is downtown. read more

Now this is a great experience. Whether I'm dining in or taking it to go after a 13 hour day at work, they are friendly, passionate about giving you a great experience. I love their laidback style. You can experience fresh farm to table food, everything is homemade, no bottle dressings with a fresh bakery on site as well. Don't get me started on their flourless cookie. I'd passed this place for years and didn't have a clue as to what I was missing. You can dine on a budget or spend a little more. Either way, it's all quality food! Several months ago I gave this place a 4 star review and for the food I would still give that score. The food is excellent! After going to the restaurant probably 10 times my only issue is how the restaurant is managed. If you arrive at 815 or later during the week the front office service personnel is totally focused on closing. They are mopping and cleaning and doing anything to get out by 900...but not focused on the customer. I experienced this again tonight as the bartender got my order wrong as she was stocking, mopping and generally closing down. Absolutely disgusting. Tried to order the tomato panini they said they didn't have it, ordered brusselsprouts instead. My friend wanted the same but they told her the same so she ordered the tuscan instead. Imagine our surprise when they brought my friend a tomato panini (??? it was unavailable???) and me the worst brusselsprouts i've ever had in my life. Disappointed that they lied that they didn't have the tomato panini, but not that disappointed since my friend couldn't even stomach hers with how horrible it was. The brusselsprouts were charred and drowning in salt. My other friends got salads that looked nauseating, and were so small I couldn't believe it was an actual meal. YUM! Met a friend for an early dinner here on Friday night. All of the panini choices on the menu sounded so good, so it took me a moment to decide. I ordered the bluebird salad, which is topped with fried chicken (perfectly flavored and crisp), avocado, cherry tomatoes and bacon. Loved the balance of a salad with some fried chicken - great in between option! The lighting inside this restaurant is amazing with the huge front windows. The decorations and interior is fantastic. You order at the counter whenever you walk in and then choose your own seat. A server brought us a carafe of water and our food later on. There are several large tables, which would make this a great place to go with a bigger group. We went to the mountain brook location, but I would like to try out the downtown location as well! I have been to the downtown location many MANY times. Today was my first trip to this location in Mountain Brook Village. The quality of their sandwiches and soups have always been top notch and this location was no different. I mean both are not "oh its a good sandwich and decent soup". I mean, they are literally both TOP NOTCH. Fresh, quality ingredients served to perfection. I got the brisket sandwich, which is some of the best brisket you will find in town. It is my go to sandwich. And once again, as good as I always remember. The soup today sounded weird, black bean and sweet potato. But there was nothing weird about the flavor. Everything was delicious. My only complaint about this location is the drink situation. I am a heavy drinker... not that kind of heavy drinker!! But with my meals, I drink my iced beverages on the quick side. Whether that be tea, water, or Coke. Places like this that are order at the counter and deliver your food to the table, should be serve your own drinks. The other location is, and this one is not. And as predicted, half a sandwich left and empty glass. They did offer a to-go tea at the end, so that helped make up for it. Overall a great experience with on slight change. If you haven't tried Brick & Tin yet, it is a must do if you are a sandwich and soup person. read more

The new Brick & Tin in Mountain Brook is an all around great spot. They make most everything from scratch, including their delicious breads for sandwiches and salad dressings. The new location is open for lunch and dinner and also has a bar with local beer on tap. The entrees are very tasty with a nice balance of textures and flavors, and the chocolate bread pudding is definitely worth the calories! Great atmosphere. You know, the food is very good. Great for lunch. A shame the service is a bit haughty. Example? I met a long-standing client and his wife there today. The wife was in town to see a doctor about her severe back problems. So I arrived ten minutes early to make sure I could secure a table for the three of us inside. I find a table with a sign that reads, "Please reserve for parties of three or more." Sweet. I sit down with my newspaper and read for five minutes, waiting for the other two to arrive, only to be told by a server that I'd need to move. "Well, I'm sorry, but I'm expecting two others in my party any moment." The server pointed out that the party who was bumping me had a baby. However, as I looked around the room, I saw plenty of other empty tables. Why me? Why mine? Yet I oblige her and move, then finding another table that could accommodate us in a half-empty restaurant. Five short minutes later, my party arrives. I stand to greet them. Just to make sure my table doesn't get whisked out from under me, I leave my paper and mobile phone. Immediately behind my guests, another party comes in, including an elderly woman in a walker. The server proceeds to move my paper and phone to accommodate her. The server was indeed a professional about it, informing me of it. So far, so good Then, as we're in line ordering, yet another person proceeds to move my stuff again. I kindly inform him that we're about to be seated, only to get told in a rather snotty tone about the woman in the walker, as if I didn't have eyes and as if I'm the worst person in the world. I shoot back that I'm dealing with a guest who is coping with the same basic issue. With that, I get lectured that we shouldn't be taking up tables until after we've placed our order. So why is the other party getting accorded that privilege and not ours? Mind you, this is going on as I'm looking around the restaurant and there are several other larger tables available. Why my particular table? Was I wearing a Donald Trump for President button or something? It's not as if I was trying to be difficult. A staff member with basic customer service skills might have handled in a way that wasn't so annoying. Food was good. But my treatment, especially when all I was trying to do was accommodate someone with severe back pain, sure left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Brick & Tin is a great little cafe on Birmingham's restaurant scene. Hours for the Mountain Brook location go later than the Downtown location, so my friend and I enjoyed dinner here on a Thursday night. There is some nice seating outside, but it was pretty warm (fall definitely isn't here yet), so we sat indoors. You order at the register, take a number, and seat yourself. A server brought us glasses and water. I ordered the brisket white BBQ panini, because it is a classic. It's so good that I never want to try anything else. The brisket is tender and juicy, and well complimented by the tang of the white BBQ sauce. I got a side of mac and cheese. It was pretty good, but it was outshone by the sandwich, because the sauce was a little thin for my tastes. Yummy, Yummy!! This place has the perfect location in downtown Mountain Brook. With seating around the bar and outside you rarely have to wait. The breads are baked right there and your mouth just waters when you walk in. This has been my second visit and I've tried a variety of the sandwiches (with a little help from my boyfriend who lets me share). The quality of food is apparent in every bite you take. The fresh soups and salads are heaven. Of course there is the bakery located in the back of the shop to entice you with a variety of homemade cookies and desserts (not that I had one or two or a half dozen.....). The atmosphere is what I would call an upscale casual and it is easy to carry on any conversation. Great place for business lunches. read more

The menu is seasonal and on our most recent visit, I got the tomato salad which is a staple in the Summer months and it was so delicious. They let the seasonal ingredients stand for themselves versus adding a lot to it to make it taste better - good produce tastes good without a lot done to it and they know that here! The service is fast and friendly. You order and pay at the counter and they bring the meal to your table. This is especially nice when you have kids because you don't have to wait for the waiter to bring the bill and then bring back your credit card, etc. While I have visited the downtown location several times, I appreciate this location because of the ease in parking and getting in and out! read more

But dishes like the fried okra and squash, that is so very fresh, are just one of those classic, southern soul foods that reminds you of the traditional south. The service is top notch. On a road trip back to California and decided to stop here for lunch. We were looking for a soup & sandwich spot and found this restaurant here on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We decided to order To Go since it seemed the most practical for us. We stepped in on the To Go side and there wasn't a menu in sight anywhere. Not on the wall, not on a counter... so I made my way to the bar area and asked if they had a To Go menu. The gentleman standing behind the bar replied "yes, it's the same one" (meaning the same one as the regular restaurant menu???) Well, we're not locals nor had we ever dined here soooo I just felt it was a bit rude to assume we were familiar with the different menu options??? I was obviously asking for a menu for a reason? After ordering, the young woman behind the counter asked if we were parked outside and we explained we were parked down the street. She kindly offered to have us wait at a table by the bar so we did. The food was great! We ordered the brisket panini and the fried chicken panini, mac n cheese and butternut squash soup. This isn't your typical soup, sandwich and salad spot. Came here in two different occasions over the same weekend. One instance was for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. You have to order up at the counter and then find a seat. Their menu is simple and with yummy options. I ordered the mushroom soup which was delicious. The only thing I didn't like is that they do a tea spoon of oil on top as decoration. Too much oil for my taste, however, I removed it and it tasted amazing. I also got the turkey Panini. I really liked it. Next time I would ask for wheat bread instead of white. The second time we went was for brunch on Mother's Day. Had the breakfast sandwich with a small salad and the three pasties sampler. The sandwich has brócoli in it. At first I was hesitant to eat brócoli for breakfast. However, it tasted amazing and I didn't even notice it. Highly recommended. The pastry platter came with Banana Mocha Muffin ( which was to die for), strawberry coffee cake (it tasted like cheesecake - amazing) and bacon cheddar and chive scone that should have not been with the platter. It would be better for a date night- not grabbing dinner with a friend (which is what I did). I know a lot of great places in B'ham that offer the same cuisine for a lower price. This place needs some serious customer service training. 2 days in a row our order was so delayed that I wanted to cancel. The first time was dine in, with a to go order at the end. The to go order was soup and salad, and it took them over half an hour to have this ready. The next day was a called in order for pick up. I was told 15-20 minutes. When I arrived after 25 minutes, they hadn't even started the order and then proceeded to say they were out of turkey for the turkey sandwich. Why didn't they say that on the phone! The order took 45 minutes. on the phone I was told to pick a side. I picked a salad which they charged extra for! Also, the staff was rude as we were waiting over half an hour for the order. Mountain Brook, Al, just a stone's throw from Birmingham, is home to Brick & Tin. It is a wonderful restaurant, bar and bakery that places an emphasis on sourcing local, fresh ingredients. My husband ordered a brisket sandwich with a side of generously sliced heirloom tomatoes. Braised beef brisket, carmelized onions & white BBQ on the freshest, most lovely flat bread I've seen in a long time. I had a bite of his sandwich before I tried my own lunch and felt simultaneous surges of shock, joy, envy and regret. The sandwich was so good, I was certain I had made a big mistake not ordering the same...then I took a bite of the fried catfish I ordered. Holy smokes! Mississippi catfish served over summer succotash with okra, pink eyed peas, sweet corn, tomatoes and homemade tartar sauce. It was quite simply the best catfish I've ever had, anywhere. (I grew up on catfish in Mississippi...I'm pretty sure Mama is still miffed that I've labeled this the best ever, but man, oh man...it's the truth!) Have always been a fan of Brick and Tin, so consider this review a "heads up" on a bad experience I just had that they need to be aware of. Mountain Brook location. First, they are out of several items (including what I wanted) but maybe no big deal. However, the Blue Bird salad (2 of them) I just had are two of the worst salads I have ever had, all the way from the chicken itself to the older overripe avocado (not a good taste to say the least). I understand you are low on food but just tell me that and don't sell me two salads for $40 that are so sub par. Plus I will also say that the two folks who checked me out were pretty impolite -- maybe they didn't want to be there I don't know. Let's go Brick and Tin -- you can do better than this, and I have seen it before. I'll be back soon to see if this was a one time event or not. Don't let it be a trend. read more

In town for an event during these unusual times and having never been to the area I wasn't familiar with where to eat and so on. Our hotel had put together a really nice list of local places to eat. Upon looking up Brick & Tin and seeing all the great reviews we decided to give this local establishment a try. We were able to order online and have it delivered and man were they fast. We were expecting it to take an hour and it came in 25 min! The food was packaged nicely and we had everything we needed to eat in our room. Wow! Wow! Wow! The food was sooooo fresh and good and perfectly prepared I had the Chick and Tin Sandwich YUM with a simple side salad. I had both the champagne vinegarette and also had their buttermilk dill ranch. Both were fantastic! My husband had the Bluebird Salad and he inhaled it too We even treated ourselves to the chocolate bread pudding and fresh cream topping which arrived hot and stayed warm until we were ready to eat. I'm so very happy that we took the chance and tried this place. It surpasses all expectations and did so under the challenges of current times. I was disappointed. I wanted to like this place more than I did. It isn't terrible by any means; I would absolutely not go back, though. I love the idea of local, sustainable menu items and understand it comes at a price, but I still found this place to be quite pricey. I eat at this type of establishment often, but around $20 for a salad and tea seems a bit outrageous. That being said, the food was good. I had a Magnolia salad with brisket. My salad came out without the cotija, which is what sold me on that dish, but I was supplied with a generous portion upon informing my server of the mistake. The brisket is top notch. If you're eating here, definitely get it. Any time my tea was half empty, my server would take it to refill. I fully appreciate being on top of refills, but a pitcher or bringing out a new glass would be better. If still have half a glass of tea and suddenly have no drink for a few minutes while it was being refilled. That got a little frustrating. All in all, I'm sure there are people who love this place, and I can understand why you do. I just didn't love it enough to come back for reasons listed above. An interesting restaurant and set of menu choices -- albeit a bit limited. The food was good. If there are just two of you eating, sitting at the bar is my recommendation. If there are more than two, you'll want to sit at a table which means ordering at the counter and getting a table tent. If you want another round of drinks, back to the counter. The food prices range from 12-20 dollars so it's surprising to me their drinks cost exponentially more than the food itself. Really enjoyed my dinner at Brick and Tin. Got the brisket sandwich and had the Alphine salad as the side. The brisket sandwich was a good size with plenty of meat on it. The bread was a great pairing with the meat and the white sauce really complimented the flavor of the brisket well. The side salad was very large for a side and all the ingredients were very fresh. The service was fast and they were very conscious to make sure we always had what we needed. I went with 4 people so we completed a bottle of water quickly but they replenished it frequently and made sure to take our plates right when we finished eating. The atmosphere of this restaurant is also excellent. The decorations are very modern and its a fun environment to have a delicious meal! You definitely should check it out read more

WOULD I TAKE MY MOTHER HERE? Yes. In fact, I did today. Unfortunately, my mother ordered steak tacos, and they brought out chicken tacos instead. When we inquired about the switch, they said they were out out of steak, did not offer her the opportunity to change dishes, and placed the chicken tacos on the table. This is obviously not a monumental mishap, but certainly not negligible either. The red snapper and grits was amazing, and I like their purposefully limited menu. Brick & Tin is a great little spot in Mountain Brook Village that we frequent. I was torn between 4 & 5 stars because we really do love this place and it needs a 4.5, I just reserve 5's for perfect! Ok so down to details. You pop in and you stand at the register to order at the counter for tables (this is not my favorite thing in a restaurant) or sit at the bar. I prefer the bar here personally, the bartenders are pretty great and you get full service quickly. I don't know about the new thing of ordering at counters at nice restaurants maybe I'm old school, but I hate seeing a line of people trying to pick their food when they could be sitting down. It seems beneath the food grade for this place. I guess it's hip. This is why they do not get a 5 from me. The environment is upscale but comfy casual at the same time. I'm not wearing work out clothes in this place, but I can wear a nice jeans outfit up to a bit dressy and be just fine. Wood, mirrors and clear & metal chairs round out the decor with a center bar as the focal point. Moving on, let's talk booze. You can check the chalk board for the rotating local beer selection and they make a great Moscow mule. Mixed drinks are meticulous - and creative. Bravo. On to food, the menu changes regularly. The food is definitely upper end palette, good flavors, unusual pairings that you haven't seen everywhere which I love. I'm all for a short rib, goat cheese, caramelized onion something or another sandwich. The have some staple concepts, sandwiches and such as they have a in house bakery on the side which is AMAZING - seriously - buy a loaf to take home. We really enjoy the appetizers. They always have different options and just ask what's best this week. They will not steer you wrong. It's all good. A pro or a con depending on how you look at it is that the menu is not deep. Maybe 5 apps, 5 entrees, a few salads, sandwiches you get the idea. Minimalist. Sometimes my 16 year old struggles to find something she wants as it's "fru-fru" food to her, but my husband and I are just fine. I'll take fru-fru any day. I do enjoy this place. Hope you will too. One of the few places I've been to where I do not even come close to sharing in the majority vote. I was really expecting a wow factor here. There were several aspects of the experience that I disliked and will probably keep me from going back. I'm all about second chances, but overall simply did not enjoy Brick & Tin. First, the food. The salad had heirloom tomatoes, a heaping pile of beans and a few pieces of chicken. The tomatoes were tasty and the beans were beans, and the tiny amount of chicken that was on there was average. The dressing on the salad was great. As a whole, just not the best salad I've had. Second, the atmosphere. Apparently in the West the restaurants all share the same format of dining: You walk in and order at the front, pick a seat and then someone brings you water and your food. It is almost half self-serve, half waiter/waitress-service. Everyone has their own opinion, but I say pick one or the other. You run out of water and don't have the option of getting more until someone who is sort of your waiter comes to re-fill. Apparently another new spot in town is doing the same thing- maybe I just haven't caught on yet. I strongly dislike how close the tables are to each other. You are basically sitting right next to someone else and can hear other conversations. Just too close for comfort. Service was three-stars worthy as well. Maybe I am being a tough critic as I know many people who really enjoy eating here - Maybe my second time around will prove better! read more

Went here last week for lunch, and had really high hopes based off of what my coworkers had told me about the restaurant. Long story made short, I was unconventionally disappointed in the staff and the food. My "mushroom soup" I was told would be a broth base with mushrooms and onions (sounded great). The soup came out and it was a thick grey paste. I also asked the young female employee taking orders if their bread contained any seeds or nuts - she confidently told me no. I am allergic to nuts and she was not even aware of any possible allergies on the menu. Poor service. Poor management. The employees stated at my friends and listened in on our conversations the entire meal. Don't plan on returning any time soon. Two stars because after asking for management twice, the manager brought me a bowl of mac n cheese to replace my meal which tasted great. read more
