I've been wanting to try this place for a while and have heard such great things about it, but I definitely didn't order the right thing. We went for dinner and enjoyed sitting outside. It was a cute building and the staff were all friendly. I went with the New Orleans sandwich. I thought it would be well seasoned and maybe even have a little spice, but this tasted like straight salt. The bread it came on was good, but the rest of the sandwich was not to my liking. The food here was close to perfect! There were so many menu options that looked good to me, it was hard choosing just one thing. It's pretty affordable too with my meal being about $15-16 after tax and tip which is good for a sit down restaurant. I ordered the Lady marmalade panini with the farro salad on the side. Three out of the four people in my group ordered this exact sandwich and side. The panini was amazing, possibly the best one I've ever had! I loved the turkey, cheese, and apricot marmalade. The farro salad was delicious! Like nothing I've ever had. It had the lightest sweet flavor that just paired perfectly with the savory flavor of the panini. It makes me want to learn how to cook farro at home! The atmosphere of this place was nice. The servers were all very young men like high school/college aged and they all seemed to be having fun working together. Coming in at 5:00pm on a Saturday we were one of the few tables. 4 stars is about right for this place. It's a very nice rustic atmosphere inside but not a lot of seating so plan to get there early to ensure a table. I got the brisket panini with side salad (ranch). The brisket had some lean and fatty pieces mixed and was pretty tasty. The side salad was also good and a nice size portion to go with the panini. I liked my wife's turkey melt panini much better though. We got a side of Mac & cheese for our baby and she won the best order of the day. The Mac & cheese was fantastic, like a white cheddar creamy Mac. They bring a decanter of water for each table which is a nice touch and reminded me of fancy restaurants. The tea was also very good and recommended. The only negative for this place would be the bakery. I expected more but it's basically just 4 or 5 different types of cookies and some breads. What a really neat place. The decor is romantic, yet casual. It was after 8 pm when I arrived and I sat at the bar. Service was super and I ordered the brisket tacos and the classic salad. They had this toothy al dente- ness to them that you can only get from fresh made tortillas. I was looking around the restaurant and I noticed they have a bakery in the back. Short story - Great service, really tasty food, and a cool bakery. I didn't get a cocktail but look forward to one the next time I go there. Everybody is talking about the brisket for a reason. It was delicious. On this one, float the mainstream and go with the flow...eat the most popular brisket. Food - Did I mention that I loved the brisket? I loved both of my salads too. One was the spartan salad. It was a great combo of delicious ingredients including a very good soft cheese. The other was the farro. I was a little hesitant but so glad I hot this one. The only problem is going to be picking something else because I loved these items so much! But ultimately, the sides board looked to have several great selections so just close your eyes and point. I'm sure you will pick a winner. Desert - Having a bakery doesn't hurt the desert department at all! Loved the flourless chocolate cookie and the mixed berry pie with homemade whipped cream on top. Drinks - They had plenty of bottles and canned beers, a small but good draft list of nicely selected craft beers, and a full bar with a lot of ingredients to make stellar unique cocktails. I saw a few cocktails go out and wishes I didn't have to get back to work this afternoon! So cool was the iced tea. The tea comes from Revelator, a great local coffee shop. It had a unique taste that I really enjoyed. I grabbed a loaf of bread to take home and made some killer sandwiches the next two nights. When I'm needing some good sandwich bread, I will be trying to make the trip here. When people want a great lunch spot recommendation this is always the first place that comes to mind. The half a salad and soup is my favorite. They always have a soup of the day, tomato basil, corn chowder, mushroom bisque, I haven't had a soup I didn't like. Paired with a simply salad topped with pickled onions, housemade croutons, tomatoes and the best ranch I have ever had. All of their bread is made in house, as well as their desserts. Brick & Tin is a decent little restaurant located in Mountain Brook Village. They have another location in downtown Birmingham which I haven't tried yet. Service is fast and the staff is friendly. The décor is simple and beautiful. I love their clear chairs, farmhouse tables and hanging antique mirrors. They usually have fresh cut flowers on the tables as well, which is also a nice touch. LIKES: Food is good - especially for breakfast. Try the trio as an appetizer! Their brie and strawberry sandwich is phenomenal! If you're a cheese fan, you'll love that! I do believe it is served seasonally and during lunch. Brick & Tin has a great selection of beer, wine and other spirits. We like coming for brunch to have mimosas. DISLIKES: There's not a lot of room to sit and the lines get long at normal eating times. Sometimes there is a confusion between the ordering line vs. the pick up line. People get frustrated and it dampers the mood on everyone around. Upon my last two visits, they ran out of biscuits, which we weren't too happy about! I have been trying to go to Brick & Tin for a year or so now but I had never made it. I went for Saturday lunch and they weren't busy which I thoroughly enjoyed. I really enjoy the flow of the restaurant - you order, take a number and find a seat, but they still bring your food and drinks with refills and what not. I found it especially nice because the aesthetic of the restaurant is so nice. Think fast casual modern flavor with a rustic modern interior. The staff was extremely helpful in giving recommendations for food. I had the Brisket sandwich (the most popular) with the classic salad. Both were absolutely delicious. To my delight, the brisket sandwich was not as heavy as I was expecting, making it a fantastic lunch sandwich. The salad was plentiful and dressed perfectly. Overall the food was delicious and a large quantity, the environment was lovely, but the price was a little high for lunch in my opinion. As a college student it's hard for me to spend $12 on a sandwich and salad but I will definitely be back to try others!! read more

Brunch on a Sunday presents us with limited options, but I decided to give B&T a try. It looked promising. A seasonal brunch menu that means that thought it put into their dishes. I like continuity but I also appreciate when restaurants have different menus. I'd like to think that they are based off of what produce are "in season"... I especially LOVE that they claim to use humanely raised meat and sustainable produce. I can't verify that they do, but they say so and I'll just take their word for it. This is one of those places where you order at the counter and they bring your food over to you. It's casual in that way, but you eat on real plates, drink from real glasses, and use real utensils and a real napkin. I suppose if you are going to be a green establishment, you can't contradict your mission by using disposable products. I give them props and I approve! I checked out their menu online before going in... of course it was different because they had changed their brunch menu. I had to choose something else, which was fine. I went with the hash and chicken and husband went with grilled cheese and mushroom soup with a side of bacon (the man needs his meat). Prices are decent for the quality of ingredients, especially if they are humane and sustainable. I really do want to love this place... I love their concept and everything, but when it comes to executing their food, this is where they fall short. I can't speak for their regular lunch and dinner meals, but for Sunday brunch at 1:00, it was very obvious that our food was premade. I understand that prepping is necessary, but maybe not all the way. Perhaps this is why they have some a small menu, they are confident that you will order one of those items and they have the things ready to go. Some things just need to be made fresh, though. My chicken and hash had good flavor and great potential, but then the chicken was over cooked and dry like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while or something. There were cuts of onion and also medallion onion quarters that were totally rock hard. I suspect they had been grilled way earlier in the day and sat with the chicken all morning. My food was lukewarm. I believe that everything was already cooked, all they did was assemble and perhaps reheat however they do it. It didn't seem microwaved, though... My husband's grilled cheese and soup combo. His food was not fresh looking either, but his soup was delicious, grilled cheese had a nice sweet jam in it, and bacon crispy. But again, I do believe everything was not cooked to order. The grilled cheese could have been on the press a little longer, etc etc. I think you get the idea. I was surprised when we got our food very quickly, but honestly I would rather wait a little longer to have freshly made food. The ambiance is great here, cleanliness is up to par, wonderful green vision, but their food was disappointing. Not in flavor, but in execution. The food at Brick and Tin always tastes so fresh! Their seasonal sides really utilize fresh ingredients that reflect the time of year. Although the brisket is everyone's favorite, my favorite (Chappapeela-- forgive my spelling) is no longer on the menu. The mountain brook location has a very hip interior, but one thing that bothers me is the 8 person tables that can only be used by 5 people. I get the premise behind it, but when all the 2-4 person tables are taken, it'd be nice not to stand and wait around and crowd the entry. People can always push together a few 4 person tables. This time to Brick and Tin I got the chicken bowl, which tasted really healthy in a good way, and I hope it was actually healthy. Chicken on a bed of saffron rice with a side of fingerling potatoes, veggies (including fantastic Brussel sprouts), and sautéed kale. Great combination. The butternut squash soup was not the best I've ever had, though. It tasted like cheese and butternut squash were blended together, and that's it.
