I'd give it 4 stars for the creativity of the food and the freshness of the ingredients but I give it 2 stars for the service which is incredibly slow and disorganized. People are friendly but I've been a few times now and it always takes a very long time regardless of how busy it is. My wife and I went for dinner a few nights ago and waited nearly 10 minutes before anyone brought water or silverware to our table--and we were still waiting for the drinks we ordered that were coming from the bar. That's pretty ridiculous. Seems somewhat proportionate at least because our sandwiches took another 25 minutes to appear. Just beware that although the combinations are creative and tasty, you're gonna get mostly bread. Two pieces of meat doesn't really make much of a sandwich. But the bread is fresh, crunchy and delicious. Overall it's got a decent thing going on just wish it was a little more attentive to its customers and offered a little more substantial sandwiches for the price. read more

This is my goto spot for a nice relaxing meal. They have good beer specials, typically one local beer on special per day. Plus, it is a great atmosphere for a cold one (or glass of wine if you prefer). My favorite dinner so far has been the Brisket Sandwich. The brisket has always been tender with just the right amount of smoke. The sauce they add is light and not over powering. If you stop by I beg you to get a soup to complement your sandwich. They all are delish. My favorite has been the butternut squash soup with the potato coming in at a close second. This place is top notch! Great food and great atmosphere. read more

Only gave 3 Stars because as a bakery/restaurant with shelves full of artisan breads, I expected panini bread when I ordered the free range chicken panini. The bread was not at all panini. It was thick and had Swiss cheese like welts. I had anticipated the panini bread that I savor end during travels to France and Italy. The mushroom soup was yummy; totally mushrooms. I really liked the ceramic soup bowl too. It was super hipster. I think it could serve double duty as a coffee cup. For dessert, my girls ordered the flourless chocolate cookies. The fact that my girls would not share a cookie piece with me proves that the cookies were great. I guess I need to get over expecting to receive a European panini sandwich here in America. read more

I'd say the food here is always delicious and changes on a semi regular basis. They have brunch on Sunday which is also delicious. The have a bakery in the back which always has some form of a delicious cookie to enjoy. There is one thing that consistently bothers me with this restaurant and that is I'm always shocked at the bill. The only reason I return is that it's always delicious and I know it will be high and I'll have those same feelings when I get my bill. The husband and I came to Brick & Tin for a rare Friday night dinner out and we enjoyed it. The decor is splendid, and the modern looking seats and tables were surprisingly comfortable. It was obvious that a group in front of us was a little confused about the 'order at the bar' sequence of events, and as we people watched during our meal, the husband and I determined that this system is confusing to a good half of the patrons that came in. I think I agree with Brad H. that ordering from your table would be much less confusing. I ordered the pork tacos, which were a little greasy but overall delicious and different. The side of the day was a seasoned couscous and I found it good as well. I will admit that I found myself envying my husband's brisket panini once I tried it - perfectly cooked and the white BBQ sauce was a great addition. I would recommend skipping the 'classic' side salad and going for one of the less standard salad options (right now it's their autumn salad) if you choose to have salad as a side. read more

I've been to the Brick and Tin in downtown Birmingham and had a great experience, so I was expecting similar from this location. For the most part, I was not let down, with a couple of exceptions. First off, the location. It's great if you live in Mountain Brook, very central to everything and clearly marked. Parking is on the street but isn't bad. The building has space for maybe 50 people inside with room for maybe a dozen outside. We came here for lunch on a Saturday. Thankfully, there wasn't a line to order (you order at the bar, then find a seat and your food will be brought. Or you can sit at the bar, which is full-service). Unfortunately, there were no tables open so we ended up wedged between two large folks at the bar. Unfortunate but not the restaurant's fault. When they say the bar is "full service", they're not being entirely honest. The bartender will take your order at some point and will give you your check at some point, but she was way too busy to do either in a timely fashion. The drinks looked fantastic but we didn't try them this time. The menu is small. There are about five options for sandwiches, five more for soup, then a daily soup and "seasonal side" which I think is always some kind of farro (kind of like wild rice). I ordered the turkey sandwich that came on honey wheat with avocado, bacon, alfalfa sprouts, and a poppyseed vinaigrette with the farro. My SO ordered a salad with lime dressing and the brisket. My sandwich was fine. It wasn't great, just fine. The turkey looked like grocery store turkey and the bread was toasted yet soggy. The avocado and bacon were great. The farro was pretty good but both my spouse and I agreed it tasted like health food. I try to eat healthy but expected better. My spouse's salad was also just okay. Again, it tasted like there was more care taken to making sure it was healthy than tasty. The brisket was very good. There's a brisket sandwich that I would definitely recommend. There is a bakery in the back of the restaurant that I highly recommend. We picked up some tomato focaccia that absolutely blows my mind. All in all, not a bad trip. We will try Brick and Tin again for sure, but will order different food next time. read more

I went for brunch on Sunday . I got there at 10:30 and there were a few people waiting outside already .( thought that was a good sign) . We sat out outside and it was really nice ambience . I recently had my first experience at Brick & Tin for a Sunday brunch. The atmosphere was relaxed with orders being taken at a register and meals delivered to your table by servers. Coffee was also self-serve, which I appreciated since it meant I could easily get several cups. For a Sunday, the restaurant was busy but not packed. My friend and I set decided to forgo any wait by opting to sit at the full service bar area instead of a table. Our waiter was very friendly and extremely helpful. I order The Toad and Hole which consisted of a piece of toast with a poached egg, avocado, swiss cheese, and tomatoes on top. It was delicious although the egg was severely over poached. My friend opted to order the Brie Biscuit which in her opinion was good but needed less jam and more biscuit. I personally thought that while the food was delicious, the food was slightly overpriced. From what I understand, the brunch menu changes every week, but the current menu is available on their website. I would definitely suggest this as a great brunch option in the Mountain Brooke area. It is also very close to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens which provides a great Sunday afternoon activity. Bottom Line: Brunch with caution. read more

This quaint small restaurant and bakery is very cozy on a corner in Mountain Brook. We got there just before the rush about 6pm on a Friday night. Very friendly staff guided us with suggestions as it was our first time. My brisket panini was SO yummy; it is apparently one of their signature dishes. My wife's Mayflower was good as well, one of their creation paninis with turkey, cranberries, and other plant matter. The HIT was their GRAIN SALAD served cold over lettuce and made of a delicious mixture of farro, quinoa, roasted apples, toasted pecans & maple-cider vinaigrette. I will go back just for that. I just began traveling for work a few months ago and I make it a point to avoid going to chain restaurants when I'm able to. I was glad I found this spot.. wasn't busy on a Monday night but I enjoyed sitting at the bar and enjoying the bluebird salad and a margarita (only right for margarita monday!) the staff was extremely nice and helped me make decisions on what I should choose. I ended up with the bluebird with roasted chicken instead of fried (even though my heart was saying fried). Cool atmosphere, and a bakery in the same spot so I was able to snag a couple cookies on my trip. Had a great lunch experience here--love the food, decor, and convenient complimentary valet parking. Wish they would nix the counter ordering and let you order from your table, though. Line was stacking out of the door by 11:30 AM, in the rain. I had the Desi panini, which is basically a fancy BBQ sandwich. Pork was tender and sauced, pickled slaw was fresh and tangy (included jalepenos!), and the avocado crema rounded out the total package. This is a fine place...just not for me. Ingredients were fresh and the decor is nice. Restaurant looks great. Service was good. They put flasks of water at each table so you never run dry. I got the brisket panini with a Magnolia salad as my side. I am so used to smoked brisket that anything else is just a distant second in taste. While this was respectable braised brisket, I was not wowed by the sandwich, and, the so-called white BBQ sauce, while I know it is popular, is just another word for mayonnaise. Sorry, but if you have good ingredients, don't drown them in mayonnaise. Bread is good...made in their bakery. The salad was interesting, but not spectacular. It was very light on dressing which can be bad or good, depending on your preference. I like it light. Kay had potato soup and salad; the soup was excellent. This is a fully blended soup with no solids. This place is more hipster than good, in my opinion. Don't misunderstand. It is an okay lunch spot, if you work in the area. Just don't drive out of your way to get here. Portions are small for the cost, i.e., not a good value. Tables are very close which makes the atmosphere bad. There is a lot of chatter which makes it impossible to have a conversation. I like a relaxing dining experience. read more

Brick and Tin is at the top of my recommendation list for places to eat in Birmingham. I love the freshness and the fact that many of the food options are farm-to-table. I prefer the location in Mountain Brook Village- the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, and I love the bakery attached. The menu is simple and concise and changes with the seasons. The Summer Salad with brisket added is by far my favorite item on the menu, along with the mushroom soup. The bakery has a few different types of breads and cookies and macarons, and in the summers, fresh and local heirloom tomatoes line the shelves for restaurant use and to purchase individually. Although I have only ever been to Brick & Tin for lunch, it's always my first stop after being away from home for a few weeks. If you live in Birmingham or are just in town for the weekend, make room for Brick & Tin in your schedule! read more

Trendy little place in mountainbrook village. Small so it can get crowded on the weekends but the food is worth the wait. Most things are made fresh in house which is awesome. Love the homegrown small town atmosphere of the place. Cookies here are great too - love the coconut brown sugar which isn't overly sweet (touch of sea salt on top is different and surprising but yummy) and the chocolate chip cranberry which is definitely a sweet treat. For lunch get the curry chicken salad. Perhaps one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. It is huge but I always manage to stuff it all down some how. The chicken is tender and in chunks with a yummy yellow curry flavor. Crunch is added to the salad by way of salty peanuts and sweet raisins. Just awesome. And the fresh naan that it is served on? Yum! As far as salads, love the winter salad. Homemade vinaigrette is sweet but a little spicy. Also has chopped, spiced walnuts, dried cranberries, and chunks of goat cheese - wonderful mixture of flavorful ingredients. Love this place. read more
