Decent place for lunch. Service was good. Unisex restroom was Ok with some drips and towels on the floor and no hot water. The fried green tomatoes were thin but tasty. Got 6 slices for $5. Burger was good, my wife left most of the large roll. The fried shrimp po boy was very tasty with the vinegary spicy zinger sauce on it. At $8.50 for the po boy, there should not be an extra $1 charge for a Tbsp or two of this sauce. After all, they do give you a salad dressing of about twice the size complimentary. Six small to medium sized shrimp (optimistically, 26-30 sized) on the sandwich. Pretty minimal but barely adequate. The fries were hot and of the extruded kind if you like that type. I prefer actual sliced potatoes myself but these were OK. In summary, a decent, albeit not cheap, place for lunch. We'll consider going again. read more

I really wish they would bring back the weekend salad bar, as they were by far the best in town. That blue cheese - dang! It was fantastic. Anywho, when I don't feel like cooking lunch on a Sunday, we order from here, and I've never been disappointed with their sandwiches. I've had problems several times in the past with cooks not picking through their spring mix for wilted or old lettuce, so I don't order menu salads any longer. Don't let that sway you. It's definitely the only complaint I could fathom having with this place. The service is always fantastic, and their weekend specials are unique and never disappoint. I have never posted a yelp review before but Iam impressed that I had to take a minute to share... What a wonderful atmosphere... the light buzz of friendly conversation greats you at the door and is complimented by a very friendly though busy staff. Never has a cook come out of the kitchen and helped me customize an order so I could take it to go so I could eat in the car.... As for the food....delicious! The smoked gouda cheese grits are out of this world! And FRESH! Fresh well prepared food at very reasonable prices...looking for a night out that won't make you budget go belly up? Exceeded my expectations for perfect BBQ. I would go out of my way to go back. The smoked wings had a slight crunch on the skin yet were moist inside. The Q sauce was vinegar based, my favorite. The side salad had a generous amount of spring greens topped with dried cranberries, sliced almonds and crumbled cheese. The balsamic dressing had a slight spicy tang not too sweet. If you are in Monticello I recommend you eat here. Friendly service, excellent home cooked food, and made to order. The grits were delicious and not overly salty. The bacon tasted amazing and was cooked perfectly, crispy but not over cooked. Our eggs were also cooked just right. All ingredients tastes fresh. The coffee is that great tasting diner coffee that you cannot find in Keurig or home brew. The staff will go out of their way to make sure you are happy, and they do it with a genuine smile. This is a small quaint restaurant in an old downtown. We wanted to try breakfast but they are only open for a few hours on Sunday. The food was great! We had the ribs with the dry rub and they had a good flavor and the meat was very tender. The young lady that waited on us was so very sweet and kind! This is a tiny little eatery in a tiny little town, but a great choice. Service was friendly though a bit slow, so I wouldn't recommend this if you're in a hurry or trying to just grab a fast bite. But if you have the time to stop a stay a while, the food is excellent. I had the Brick House sandwich zinger style and upgraded my side to Fried Green Tomatoes. Scrumptious! My parents had the shrimp po-boy with fries and the grouper sandwich with pasta. The pasta was only so-so, but the fries and sandwiches were devoured. My wife and I drove through yesterday and had an almost identical experience to Maura's. Heck, my wife even had the grilled chicken. I had a chicken salad sandwich on a remarkably perfect toasted Kaiser roll. We, too, just happened to find the place as we walked around near the town square. We make several trips a year between Pensacola and I-75 or Jacksonville a year, and usually have to stop at a chain place to get something to eat. This time I spent a little time to find a good place to stop for lunch. We found it here. It is about 5 miles north of I-10, which makes it a nice break from the interstate boredom. It is a small diner that has about 14 tables, and a few outside on the sidewalk. All except one table was taken, so we grabbed it, where we were waited on within a minute or two. I opted for the grouper sandwich, which was huge and very good, my wife had the shrimp po boy that was loaded with tasty shrimp. We had the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer, that were outstanding. The sweet potato fries and the potato salad was as good as it gets. If you need a break from the interstate, and want some good food, this is your place. It is not a fancy five star restaurant, just an unpretentious small town diner. Stopped in for lunch on the way home for lunch and we both had the special, amberjack sandwich with fried green tomatoes. It was really good. Meal for two with drink came to $21.79 with tax. They have a private room in the back for larger parties. Serve breakfast and lunch on Sunday's. Would highly recommend. Lunch was served by the chef, probably the owner and he also came back out to check how we liked the amberjack, which was a large portion served on a hot kaiser roll.
