If nothing else, I must say that the lunch specials are amazing at this place. You can get a very filling meal for the pice of a fast food meal. Their daily specials are posted on their facebook page so that is a great resource. I love to get the Bourbon Chicken and noodles which is a Friday special. They have some of the best burgers around. I got a double cheeseburger and FF for $10! There are options to dine-in as well as a take out window on the side of the establishment. Service is quick and efficient and perfect if you are on a lunch break from work. Take out is easy peasy as well. I have not yet tried the homemade desserts but I have heard from ALOT of people that they are truly amazing and I believe the owner is still taking special orders for cakes. read more

This place was recommended by a local. It is what you'd describe as a "hole in the wall". It appears to be an old house, turned into a restaurant. The atmosphere was fine. They had lunch specials, but I selected a fried shrimp lunch platter from their regular menu. It was a large portion, which is a bonus! The shrimp were good, not over cooked. The fries were regular (previously frozeseasoned fries. The cheese grits were majorly lacking. It was as if there was NO salt added, and some of the grits were clumped together/hard, and the cheese was only in random places. The cheese grits are not what I was expecting and not something I would recommend. My dining partner (the local) ordered a blueberry cheesecake, which I assume is home made. It was also very bland/simple. I'm not local, so the opportunity to go back is not likely. But I would give it another try, if I didn't have a choice or was pressured by my local friend. I haven't had a meal here in a couple of years. I wanted a side to go with some food I had at home, and I had tried a sample of their chocolate cake one that they call chocolate lasagna. So around 6:30 I decided to stop in to see what I could find. I thought I would try their onion rings and a dessert since the menu says to ask about their dessert selection, and no was hoping for that chocolate cake. The young girl taking my order at the window just answered with "we don't have any desserts" so quietly I had to ask her what she said. I only ordered the rings, and she had me wait in the car and brought it out to me when it was ready. The weather wasn't great so I appreciated her bringing them out and had left her a tip for the effort. The flavor of the onion rings wasn't bad, but they weren't very crispy. The turn off was when I saw disembodied fried shrimp tails in with the rings. I would just caution anyone with a seafood allergy to make sure they are careful with their order. A local favorite, this small resteraunt is a hidden gem in Wakulla! My family has been eating here for years and Mrs. Two is an amazing cook! My husband had a steak medium and unfortunately it didn't taste as good as it looked. But it's a seafood resteraunt and I was not disappointed with the tuna tacos. There were 2 and they were huge. They had a spicy sauce that was delicious and a little bite. Their portion size is huge so I would suggest sharing a meal. They are also small compared to their demand. There was a line waiting for seats when we left so get there early in the evening. When it warms up they have more seats outside. read more

We went there after a DREAMY day at the beach with another couple and their children and our elderly mom, it was her 68th birthday. We came in the restaurant and were smiling already as we read some of the specials on the board outside. We sat ourselves and no one was there to greet us. It's ok, we sat on the available table by the entrance and our friend grabbed a few menus and stood by the window thinking that we should order by the window. Right away a younger girl told us in a rude impatient way, that they will come to our table to take our order and not to stand there (really? It's a free country). Our friend sat down and told us we should stay sit and that someone will come and take our order. Great!!! We kept looking at the menu with smiles from seeing all the delicious options. Then one of our kids, she's 6 years old, told us to go look at the cakes in the fridge in the other brighter room. Wow! Us moms and kids were so excited looking at the giant delicious cakes.... but Right then and there, another lady, an older one, told us also in the meanest way, that we could NOT stand there and to go elsewhere... what?!?!?! We couldn't believe it but laughed at the situation and told our kids to go to the table. As we were going to our table, we saw a stand with hot sauces and I went to grab a couple of bottles for our table and then one of the waitresses, named Elizabeth was so rude again! and told us not to grab anything because they will bring it us if we ask for it. What kind of ridiculous attitude these people have? And they are left there to run a place? Finally a nicer dude took our order and we got to eat, pay our bill and left 18% tip to our more friendly waiter and left right after. Unfortunately, we didn't order any cake. The food was OK - regular fried food and some Of us had a bit of an upset stomach afterwards. I will NOT be back here. So many other options out there. We used this restaurant to cater my daughters wedding and couldn't have been happier!! Not only was the wide variety of food delicious and hot on the buffet, but the owner and her husband were incredibly thoughtful! They packed a to go bag for the bride and groom, packed up all the leftovers for us and were beyond kind throughout the event. They did the wine and beer as well with fabulous staff!! Overall this may be my favorite place to get seafood in Wakulla County. There is nothing fancy about this restaurant but the food has always been very good. In fact, it took me years to try it because the building scared me away. But I should have remembered the saying "Don't Judge a Book by it's Cover"! The specials menu was extensive but we stuck to the regular menu and ordered the fried shrimp basket and shrimp, grouper and catfish basket. Both came with fries and your choice of cole slaw or cheese grits. We were surprised at the portions when they came out- huge for the money! My husband, whose plate was much larger than mine, ended with a doggy bag! The batter was well seasoned and the fry was crisp and light. The cheese grits had a great flavor and consistency and the cole slaw was on the sweet side - just to my liking! SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! Their dessert menu is extensive and seems to rotate daily. We ordered a chocolate lasagna cheesecake and a strawberry tall cake to go - both were homemade and SPECTACULAR! The service was great- our sweet waitress filled us in on specials that people enjoyed and chatted with us about what to do if we wanted fish tacos next time (she said call ahead and then we will probably see it on the specials board- how's that for service!). so, my mother and I are natives of Florida (we know about fresh seafood/SoulFood Flavors) we live in woodville, my brother is in crawfordville...we stopped in fora meal, ordered (2) combo plates an found: that the food wasnt seasoned, not even salt (?) the coleslaw hada mysterious slim throughout, it tasted gross, we left majority of the food on the plate, because it wasnt palatable...it was hot but that was about it! We both $pent $30 each easily but NEVER again...of course we tipped the waitress, it wasnt her fault..I wont ever visit again, I dont know about my mother but this is My review, the next time I want something respectful to eat, I will make the drive into town/Tallahassee (25 minutes?). We were in the area to go out on the ocean at St Marks. We bopped in for lunch and boy are we glad we did. Despite the parking lot looking deserted this was wonderful seafood. There is a tiny salad bar featuing the regular stuff plus what appeared to be homemade redskinned potato salad, and a homemade thousand island salad dressing; it was delicious despite some of the chopped lettuce looking a bit brown. We tried the fried seafood catfish, grouper shrimp and hushpuppies. You pick two sides. My husband got cheese grits and fries. I got grouper and oysters. The fish was amazingly wonderful. Hot, tender and perfectly fried. The ff were also good. My slaw tasted good but was several days old and sorta grey. The cheese grits were tasty too, but had a big lump right in the middle of the cup. I would have joyously given 5 stars to this little fish camp had as much care gone into preparing and delivering fresh and appealing sides as was the fried fish. Good parking for our RV. Other meals are available including a stuffed burger and ribeye steak. We plan to frequent the area and plan go back to the cast net. The National wildlife refuge, state and county parks are simply fabulous. read more

A travel writer named William Least Heat Moon in the book Blue Highways circled the USA in a van and determined that an eatery could be predicted in advance by how many calendars hung on the wall. This place has several calendars. And when I read a prior review by a fisherman raving about the food I thought this would be the local haunt gem. Unfortunately, wrong. No matter how close you are to the Gulf of Mexico, never assume the shrimp are from the Gulf, here, minutes away. I ordered the fried oyster appetizer for and the fried shrimp platter with fries, and a Diet Pepsi (treating my body as a temple as usual). Cheese grits and fries came with the shrimp platter. Okay, the good, the bad, the ugly. The fried oyster appetizer was decent but greasy. The tartar sauce was in the classic plastic bottle but it was mostly white goo. Sorry, I have to report it like I experienced it. Things then went from bad to worse. The rubbery, small fried shrimp very likely came from Taiwan or somewhere halfway around the globe. Extremely disappointing to be so close to the Gulf and get frozen, foreign shrimp. The fries and the shrimp were also unbelievably oily, greasy. I love fried food but this is more like deep soaked in second hand oil purchased out back of a Captain D's. Again, I am sorry. The good: Nice teenage kids working in here. I tipped my waiter more than 20 percent (24 tab, 30 with tip). Back to the ugly. Cheese grits had no cheese. Fries were the lowest grade frozen product you can buy and full of pores that filled with oil. Check out my photos. Really hate to publish this review. I should have known better than to order the shrimp. Walking out I saw a local couple eating the steak and the grouper. Their food looked a lot better than mine tasted. Don't pass this one by, which is fairly easy to do since it's relatively small. We eat here every chance we get cause there are simply no better fried shrimp or oysters anywhere. The portions are very generous, and the prices very fair. They have cold beer and a small wine selection and there is nothing g better than a beer with fried oats tees. The menu also includes other wonderful dishes like fried grouper and it to die for as well. Each dish is complimented by Cole slaw , or cheese grits and fries. The fries are home cut, not the frozen variety. Kast Net rates 5 Star because it's on of those quaint little old time Florida seafood restaurants that have mostly disappeared. This was our first visit to the Kast Net and we will definitely be back. I am normally quick to order anything fried at a place like this, but ordered the pan seared grouper and shrimp this time. It was very good, but maybe it's just me, but I wish I had gone fried. The grouper was good and lightly breaded. The shrimp were small but plentiful. The meal came with a well prepared baked potato and mixed vegetables. The mixed vegetables were my only real disappointment as it was easy to tell they were the exact same mixed vegetables you get from Sam's in the big frozen bag. They always have those sliced parsnips in there, and who around this part of the country really eats parsnips. The highlight of the visit was seeing the amazing array of desserts that are lovingly made by the owner. Some of the pictures from other yelpers give you a good idea, but the desserts alone make a trip down to the Kast Net worth while. I ordered the coconut mousse cup which was wonderful. Basically a coconut mousse concoction served in a chocolate cup. As great as it was, I really got excited seeing some of the cakes people around me had. The hummingbird cake looked and tasted great thanks to a sample I was given. Ok, so I gave them 4 stars, but had I gone with a fried dish and not had some weird personal problems with parsnips, it could easily have been a 5. So for that reason, I need to go back. read more

I have driven by this place probably 100 times on my way from Tallahassee to the coast. Today we stopped for lunch. It was beyond expectations. The food was all cooked fresh. We saw the onion rings and had to order them. Wonderful, freshly made, not like the frozen restaurant supply type. We ordered the seafood basket. It came with a plethora of seafood. Shrimp, Grouper, Catfish, all melt in your mouth delicious. After one visit, This place has now become a favorite. To top it all off, they have great freshly made multilayer cakes. Normally, I don't think much of cakes, but when you see them you will understand. We had a slice of the Almond Joy cake there and took a different slice to go. Finally, the prices are great too. The Kast Net is a wonderful restaurant, that is out of the way for most, but worth the drive. Definitely worth stopping if you're going to the coast. It's a modgepodge of areas all squished together to make one, not beautiful but comfortable space. The menu is fairly basic, but the special board appears to be where all of the best dishes are located. My fiancé and I went because of the stories heard about the stuffed grouper, and it wasn't on the menu, but appears to always be on the special board. My fiancé ordered the stuffed grouper and I ordered the ribeye steak. Both came with salad and steamed broccoli. Mine with a baked potato and hers on a bed of rice, which appeared to be fried. Both were unbelievable portions, as most appeared to be, since most tables appeared to ask for to-go boxes. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium and tasted great. The grouper was stuffed with shrimp and lobster and was delicious, though slightly undercooked in the middle, due to the size I imagine. My wife and I had dinner here tonight, and, I must say that it was among the worst meals we have ever had. I ordered fried shrimp and fried oysters. The shrimp were mediocre, but the oysters were pitifully undercooked. They were white from batter, not browned at all. The resolution offered was to take them back and fry them more, which was totally unacceptable. I could not eat them. The cheese grits were dried out and barely had cheese among the lumps. The hushpuppies were dense and undercooked. The salad bar was very sparse. We were very disappointed with the quality of the food and further disappointed by the lack of concern that the food was inedible. Both of us left over half of our food on the plate. read more

I have been remiss in not reviewing Kast Net until now. We have been eating there for 3 or 4 years and have always had a great dining experience here. Don't be fooled by the building, the food and service is excellent. It is a family owned and operated restaurant and you can feel the family atmosphere. The owner/chef is a very sweet lady who cooks with the utmost care. The portions are over the top, almost always good for another meal later, especially if you plan to save room for her delicious homemade deserts. If you're in the area give them a chance, I doubt you'll regret your decision. read more
