My first experience in this little neighborhood gem occurred several weeks ago while I was looking for a new place to sit/read/play chess/destress that didn't include having to order my drink in a "venti" size. I walked in and was greeted by a friendly, courteous, (and cute I might add) barista that simply goes by the name "Z." I was refreshed to see a place that offered a great cup of coffee at a fraction of the price if their competitors without skimping on the atmosphere. It's quiet, enough to not be distracted by the usually eclectic music selections playing overhead. As a visitor to Chicago I was looking for a place to go off the beaten path. So for all of you who are looking to hang where the locals do, and experience something more than a "chain" coffee shop, I recommend finding your way to Bridgeport coffee! With a great selection sandwiches, coffee, tea and sweets, and the bonus of a wi-fi connection, its not hard to spend a couple hours here. I have only stopped here in the AM., and I enjoyed a breakfast sandwich, tried an iced chai latte, and the coffee cake was extremely good! This is not your typical run-of-the-mill "mainstream" place. Bridgeport Coffee Company is one of best coffee house I have ever tried. The coffee is amazing. The food is good . One thing that I don't like is the fact that it is so popular that it is always crowded when I go in. LOL!!! But it is worth the trip. They have free WiFi , clean, and a well decorated coffee house. I want to like it here, I really do. I normally frequent Jackalope as its a bit closer to me and I'm able to bring my dog in to order. But after a year in Bridgeport I wanted to give them a shot. My boyfriend and I each ordered an iced Black eye. I got mine with some flavored syrup. I was given a larger size than I ordered, so I already knew the amount of syrup I asked for wouldn't be enough to make this beverage taste good. But that wasn't even the issue. The fact that it tasted Sooo burnt was. Like undrinkably burnt. I also frequent Starbucks so I'm used to a dark, bold taste. And this was just in a whole different category. I plan on giving them another chance, in hopes this was just a fluke. read more

The new Bridgeport coffee at Roosevelt Collection is not as great as this location. The hot chocolate I ordered was a bit on the cold side ( the guy was slow bc he had to asked his coworker how to make it) and the cake I ordered was put in a doggy bag. To make the matter worse, the cashier guy told me it was a tiramisu cake but turned out to be a cheesecake. If I knew it was a cheesecake I would order the chocolate cake instead. The reason why I gave it a star is bc they know is to collect money and smile to customers. read more

I've known of this place since their opening a handful of years ago. Having been a on again off again Bridgeport native, and finally moving out of the city all together, my wife and I still make the journey twice a week to 31st and Morgan to get some of my favorite coffee in the city. This cafe brings the best of what I look for in a neighborhood cafe. The food is cheap but very good, the different donuts and pastries are great, the coffee and tea concoctions are great, and most importantly the people that both work there and consume there are friendly. This place also has played a part in the Bridgeport art scene by displaying local artists' art and hosting local musicians. I can't say enough good things! read more

This is a great coffee shop. Their lattes are very very good and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Their prices are great compared to other places and it never feels like I am in a hipster preserve like in some coffee shops in other parts of town (read: Logan square or Wicker Park). Yes, most of us are students/artists/activists or whatever but nobody is trying too hard to look interesting. I go there to get work done and to take a break from worrying about life and I find comfort in great coffee and loose-leaf tea. I found this cafe through Yelp while searching for a place in Bridgeport with free wifi (I had an hour to kill before a meeting) and stumbled across a gem. The Bridgeport Coffee Company is a contender for best iced mocha in the city - the other one is Star Lounge Cafe - and I don't say that lightly. Yum! The atmosphere is comfortable, the barista was friendly, and there's a little outdoor patio. What was amusing is that the barista was wearing another cafe's T-shirt - but that other cafe isn't in the state, so I guess that's OK. :-) If I lived anywhere nearby I'd be here all the time. Absolute perfect place to have lunch or just relax with a cup of coffee. Work is not too far from here so I come here for lunch a few times a month. Their wraps are good and reasonably priced. The people who work there are very friendly and extremely polite. The crowd is a facial hair, macbook using kind of crowd if you know what I mean. If you're a coffee fan, Bridgeport Coffee is your spot. Caveat: My review is based solely on their drip and pour over coffee. But, isn't that the point of drinking coffee? Their roasts allow the flavor of the beans to really shine through, and I've learned quite a lot how different coffees from around the world actually are. I really like the laid back neighborhood vibe of Bridgeport Coffee. Early weekday mornings have a brisk crowd picking up morning coffee, served with the smile I need pre-caffeine! On more leisurely weekend mornings, it's a great place to sit and read the paper while enjoying a pour-over (and the donuts). I really should try an espresso drink some day, but I enjoy the coffee too much :) At home, I always keep a pound of whole beans from Bridgeport. I love this place for a few reasons. It's near my house, has wifi and the employees are very nice and seem to know the people who frequent the shop. There are a few kinks I had to get used to after not being there for a few months. I didn't know the milk was stored behind the counter. When I asked to leave room for cream, I was confused as to why I wasn't offered milk. The coffee does lack a little flavor or is watered down but now I'm learning to just order an iced tea. The out door seating is nice and they are dog friendly with a water bowl outside. Their sandwiches and soups are very delicious and worth the wait. If only they were open later... read more

I have been here several times over the last 5 years and I am always impressed with the food and drink, which really sets it apart from your average neighborhood corner coffee spot. The place is a casual coffee shop with raised window seating and an antique metal ceiling. The food is what you would find in a fine pastry shop; it is matched with their namesake roasted coffee. This time I had a tuna sandwich on a multi grain bagel. It was really delicious. I went back for a cherry turnover and a latte. Both were great. The staff there is awesome and fun and give great personal attention...they know the regulars and the people in the neighborhood. They make awesome sandwiches exactly how you want them, same for coffee andanything else you may desire. Its the perfect little place to go and hang out - i wish it were bigger. i try to get my schoolkids to go there more often than the junk stores and food places in the neighborhood. Best Coffeehouse in Chicago. Always perfectly smooth and never bitter or burnt. I could not get enough of their iced soy lattes or coffees over the summer, and now I buy their roasts to make at home. I used to buy my coffee at Whole Foods from their house selection, but the coffee from Bridgeport is noticeably and significantly higher quality. It is worth the extra two dollars per pound, and undoubtedly worth six or seven dollars more per pound from the really bad stuff. If you're in Bridgeport--go here. If you're in a grocery store buying coffee--buy theirs. read more

Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of coffee shops. I don't drink coffee and don't care much for tea either. I find establishments like Starbucks corporate and impersonal. Therefore I tend to avoid coffee shops most of the time. The other day a friend had a craving for an expresso so we stopped in. It wasn't too crowded so were able to find a seat quickly. My friend ordered the expresso he wanted and I opted for a hot chocolate. It was made with milk, which I'd recently eliminated from my diet, so I didn't drink much of it. It was too sweet as well if I'm being honest. But whatever, i wasn't complaining. My buddy was enjoying his expresso so I was happy. The vibe of the coffee shop was laid back and inviting. The patrons were a great mix of cultures and ethnicities. That was interesting to see considering Bridgeport's racist history. There used to be a time that people of color couldn't even walk through the area without being attacked or harassed. That day brown people of all shades made up half the clientele. That says a lot about how far the area has come. What a beautiful site to see. Anyway, I'd gladly return to the coffee shop just to read, have a soda or try a food item on the menu. My favorite coffeehouse in the city, and I've been to a lot! They have great coffee and know how to make espresso drinks correctly. (Most places don't know how to make proper latte.) I've been here several times when the employees were discussing coffee with their customers. The staff is friendly and will great you by name once they get to know you. There is enough seating that you don't feel bad sitting all day on your computer. They also allow you to have a tab open in case you want to order more later on. The sandwiches are fine, my favorite part is being able to add soup or a salad for a dollar more- most places you have to buy separately. A great community sense here and is cozy in the winter. The service there is great. The most enjoyable aspect of the shop is the vibe. The decoration and the settings provide a chilled/artsy atmosphere. I love this coffee shop. Living in the neighborhood for over two years I've enjoyed stopping in for a great pour over or iced coffee. However, my most recent experience has nearly soured all previous experiences. The baristas on this particular Sunday afternoon were HORRIBLE. For starters, as I was there for over four hours, on several occasions I ordered a drink and snacks. Every time I went up I had to wait for the staff to stop talking to each other and acknowledge my existence. They obviously have wonderful working relationships, bonus, but they know ZERO about customer service. Speaking of my favorite pour over and the staff's preoccupation with each other, my coffee sat behind the counter so long that it actually got cold. The most egregious of all however, who was the scruffy bearded gentleman, who while behind the cash register was extremely loud and when I ordered he didn't actually stop his conversation, but, as he gregariously announced his departure for the 100th time to the staff, he lingered in front of the register, chatting it up and blocking money paying patrons from getting their goods.
