I love the cozy atmosphere at Bridgeport Coffee. The walls are decorated with Chicago Bridgeport history and it is a perfect place to sit and do work - free wifi, not too crowded or noisy, but never empty. The coffee is wonderfully made, and the service is great. Also their sandwiches are really good, but I wish they had a better selection of pastries. Well I have worked at numerous chain and independent coffee shops around Chicago, and to be honest it all tastes the same to me. I will keep going to a coffee shop as long as there is coffee and tea. Bridgeport Coffee has free wifi and I will admit it is crawling with hipsters, but its not far from my house and the wait staff is always nice to me. I do remember a time when my sister waited a long time for a bagel as other people were walking out with bagels and they came in after us. Plus, they do have an issue with their heating and air system. But the way I look at it is, I get Internet at home. I can get a bagel/coffee at home, but if I am out and about I will stop at the cafe and pick up something along the way. Its the only coffee shop I know of in Bridgeport. If I move out of Bridgeport then whichever coffee shop is in that neighborhood will become by favorite. read more

You realize almost all of the amazing reviews are on the doughnuts or location? The doughnuts are made by "Bake for me." I've had them at a few coffee shops. The line I had to wait in was silly long and the employees were pausing to stop and chat with regulars. They even made drinks for the people behind me in line if they knew them. I got probably the worst hot chocolate ever. All the food looks like it's from Costco. No thanks. read more

I hate writing reviews for places when I live by them and go there all the time. I usually love this place. But a few days ago, they gave me a iced latte that was kind of sour. I don't know what was wrong with it but I get the same thing almost every day alternating between this place and a starbucks so my taste buds are set. It tasted super funky and I kept drinking it because a) I paid $5 and I'm cheap/not wasteful. b) Maybe I just haven't sampled the broader spectrum of lattes. c) They seem to make everyone else's drink with the same ingredients so what could be so bad? Anyways, I ended up feebly huddled over my toilet for the next 6 hours. I had a phone interview for a job I wanted and had to try my best to not upchuck in the middle of it. I've been coming to this place for a few years now. What can I say I don't like to give out of 5 star rating unless it's absolutely ,positively deserve and this place definitely deserves it. Great coffee, great food, outstanding service, a ton of space to drink your coffee or tea, eat your breakfast or your lunch. Free wifi and always immaculately clean. iIt still has a very old school feel to it while still maintaining a hip modern atmosphere It's located in a very old corner store front. Bridgeport Coffee Company is a cozy coffee shop with a nice variety of food and drinks. I came with a friend on a dreary Tuesday afternoon and it was pretty busy. I ordered an agave soy latte and my friend had the coffee of the day. Overall my visit here was pleasant but I do have to deduct some points because they forgot my drink and I had to go up to the barista to ask after I was passed up by everyone. My latte was pretty good; it was a bit too sweet for my taste but had a nice layer of thick foam on top which I'm a sucker for. I also liked that I could still taste the coffee in the latte unlike some of Starbuck's lattes which are overpowered with their 6 pumps of syrups (ok I'm exaggerating but you know what I mean). Bridgeport Coffee Co has a laid back atmosphere and friendly baristas. Check it out for a good cup of joe and then hit up Chinatown for some yummy food! read more

This place is so cool and hip. Like most coffee shops, but this one has such a cool locals atmosphere to it. Their donuts are delicious, but they sell out quickly. At least they're gone almost everytime the boyfriwnd and I come here. We frequent on weekends around midmorning. I like their window seating areas and this place is actually a lot bigger than it looks. If you can't find seating in the main front area you can walk towards the back where you will find 2 other separate rooms with tables and chairs. Super cute place! Love it! read more

I love me a great coffee.... but every time I have purchased coffee or lattes from here they have been disgusting . 3 blocks later I am tossing out the 2 drinks I've purchased...no flavor and seems to be sitting out for hours....more like tar then a tasty beverage. This has happened about 3 times now at this point. But on the plus side....Their food smells and looks delicious so I will be back to sample some for lunch one day... I really really like Bridge port coffee. It's not just the legal stimulant beverage that makes this place unique but the people. A good mix of people. Not just color wise. Up and down the socioeconomic ladder wise! I sometimes stop there on my bike ride to U of C. I stopped there the other day. Guess what? I realize that the people in there really are a true mix of people. I barely see that in the coffee shops on the northside. I saw this big burly construction worker...drinking his coffee at one of the tables next to a hipster reading a book on Che..lol. At another table was a mommy with her stroller. Yeah, I usually always see the hipster type and the mommy/stroller in coffee houses. But construction worker? Usually they are getting a coffee to go at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts and I never see that type in an Intelligentsia or one of the hipster cafes in Ukie Village or Bucktown,etc! (although the guy that runs Asado,..he sortof looks like the construction type and he makes an awesome cup of coffee! That's for another review though! Another place with GREAT coffee on par with Intelligentsia and Metropolis!) A cop came in and ordered his cup of coffee at Bridgeport, talking with this hipster /cyclist with different colored hair about either getting the hardscrabble blend or mayor's blend. Any other place but this coffee shop, this cop probably would have been arresting this hipster during a critical mass ride. But here in caffeine heaven, common ground was forged between two typical enemies. One serving the state and one usually protesting against the state. Their passion for coffee uniting them until their exit from the cafe where once again they would be enemies. I love Bridgeport coffee! BTW....whereever they get their granola from, wow! Delicious. Wonderful little coffee shop with some of the nicest staff around. I ordered a hot chocolate to avoid a late night caffeine problem. "how would you like your hot chocolate" she asked me. "Like an 8 year old". My hot chocolate had whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and I nearly expected a coloring book. Excellent service. I had a pretty poor experience here. I heard great things about Bridgeport coffee house so I went out of my way to check it out. Pros: plenty of space to lay out and work. Friendly staff. The pastries looked good. Cons: came in to do work and the wi-fi didn't work. Undercharged me a quarter for coffee (according to the board) but then forgot to give pour over or announce it was ready. By the time I got it, was already lukewarm coffee. Underwhelming experience. But it could be just this once, saw many cops come in for their daily coffee. read more

This morning I decided to break free from my antisocial ways and explore my new neighborhood. I am still fairly new here. Anyway, this was my second time here, and I must say that they have very good coffee (they only offered whole, skim, or soy milk--some people do like 2%). I liked the laid back atmosphere and the staff was very nice to me. My sandwich was pretty good as well as the pastry that I bought. I have only been here once, but I fell in love with this place immediately. I love the outside-shaded seating and the feel of the atmosphere upon entering. I was greeted with a smile right away. The place is open, bright, & I'm looking forward to spending days studying & reading here. I came here to do work but the place is too damn loud. Their espresso machine makes too much noise and the barista hits it or something every few minutes making it really hard to concentrate on my reading. Also the frequent visits by loud and obnoxious coppers didn't help my concentration. WiFi is fast enough, even though it had a few disconnections. Cappuccino with soy milk is tasty! This place USED to be fantastic, but their recent high rate of turnover has led the bridgeport coffee house to start going downhill. Every time we go in there, there's new staff that don't know what they are doing. There was a huge line leading all the way to the door, but was taking forever to move. The chick with the red lipstick was taking our order, yet got side tracked to break pennies for her register. She messed up our order. I got a vegetarian breakfast sandwich on plain bagel, Rick got a bacon sandwich with an everything bagel -- no giardiniera for the both of us. To our surprise we found that our order was wrong. I got an everything bagel with giardiniera. Rick got a plain bagel with giardiniera as well. If she actually paid attention to what we were saying, instead of being sidetracked, maybe our order would've been right. We used to get breakfast sandwiches pilled with lots of ingredients. Now it is packed with nothing. Literally. There's egg and cheese and BARELY any toppings (going to try to upload a picture of all the toppings they put on a everything ingredient bagel). If I am paying $5 for a breakfast sandwich and say I want EVERYTHING on it, I'd expect it to be a pretty hefty sandwich, maybe even made without the overuse of a microwave. Our friend got a PB&J sandwich. Not to our surprise it looked like shit, all bread and barely any ingredients, and was even still $3. Basically avoid the food, it's not worth it. This is one of my favorite coffee shops in Chicago. Three of the rooms are reliably silent, making them good places to get work done. I rarely leave Hyde Park, but when I do, it's usually to come here. My only suggestion is that they get better Wifi, or perhaps a better Internet connection. This is my go-to coffee shop. I couldn't find a better study-spot/cafe in bridgeport. The atmosphere is cozy and has antique vibe. There are a plenty of seats to sit from the entrance to the inner side. Inner side is much more quiet with no background music, so it is definitely suitable to study there. Now, in terms of coffee, coffee is also pretty good. It's perfectly balanced: neither too bitter nor sweet. All the employees there are also friendly! read more

So, if you are in a big hurry and do not care so much about the art and taste, but want it in a hurry- this place isn't for you. The espresso drinks were amazing. Made with care and warms you from the inside out. They have a variety of sweets and food options as well. I tried the chocolate lava cake. I can say that is was ok. I was a little hesitant since I had been disappointed with the cafe by 35th street which had gotten a few good reviews too. One summer ago, I lived about a block away from this cafe. It is in the middle of a fairly middle class, largely Latino family oriented neighborhood (the kind where at night, people of all ages sit on their porch and talk to each other). It is a very ordinary cafe with very ordinary people, which is the appeal! It's nice to see a coffee place that isn't snobby about their caffeine. I didn't like the following: no oatmeal, iced chai tea was bitter, tables and chairs are not comfortable, not enough work space at tables, not all tables have an accessible outlet and the temperature is never quite right (either too cold or too hot).
