We found this place in walking distance to our air bnb on our trip to Chicago. We arrived a little early, they had seating outside so we parked it until they opened, which I'm happy to report was on time. Coffee was awesome and so were the pastries. Good coffee, and excellent baristas! We were picking up sweets in the vicinity when I had the urge for a breve latte. The people here were so friendly and welcoming. They had good- looking brownies available, but we had just left one of our favorite chocolate shops with brownies, truffles, and bark. I would return to try their desserts, which they get from nearby bakeries. Their offerings vary, and don't always have the same desserts available. This place has gone down-hill. Born and raised in Bridgeport, so this was my go-to study spot in HS and college. Their internet was always terrible, but the vibes always made it a good spot to do be productive. Not not that, but they've seemed to have hired new barista's who don't know how the shop runs at all. Disappointed. Bridgeport Coffee Company is one of my all-time favorite cafes. It appears small on the outside but in reality, it has an elongated, odd space that extends into the building. I have had their drip, café au lait, and latte. None of them ever disappoints me. The staff is friendly and the environment is cozy. It's a great spot for studying or to catch up on reading. I can easily spend hours at Bridgeport because of their free wifi and street parking. The only downside is the café can get quite stuffy and humid on certain days. read more

I like visiting local coffee shops and found myself in Bridgeport. Like my normal routine in trying a new establishment I've never been before, I ordered the chai latte. I was a little hungry, so I grabbed an apple turnover because it was the first thing I saw by the register. I'm fond of the chai latte. The kick of "chai" had a good, strong punch and didn't taste diluted. However, the apple turnover was just ordinary. I know that the pastries weren't made in the house. In addition, the selections were minimal. I understand that since it was approaching to late afternoon, and they were the leftovers. The front of coffee shop was quickly filled up by students, working professionals, and people who liked to chill and had a relaxing time chatting. Regulars were then moving to the back for more seating. There were outlets available, not plenty. I was able to find one to charge my phone by the window. Some yelpers mentioned the dysfunctional wifi access. The signal was present the entire time that I was using my I-pad. In other words, I didn't experience any technical difficulties. The prices were pretty reasonable. The most expensive coffee is under $4 for a large size (16 oz.). They have sandwiches available, for $6 in average. Southside hipsters apparently enjoy hanging out in here. Take notes, Logan Square and Wicker Park: you folks charge WAY too much for stuff in general...please scale down on the costs. read more

Yesterday, Jan 5th, I was watching WTTW Ch 11 and they were running a recap show of places to try. This was one of them. The way the owner talked and described how they roast all kinds of different coffees ON SITE made me curious. I went to their website and they described SEVERAL different kinds of coffees from various locales they were CURRENTLY serving up. I made the trip SPECIFICALLY for the "Mayor's Blend" and another Artisanal coffee called Miraville...both were described as having flavor notes from "creamy" "Sweet" "Caramel"...etc. Both types were sourced from El Salvador... So, this morning, I head down there, go inside and order the coffee...only to be told...all we have today is "Guatemala"... huh? I said...your website states all these coffees ...wheres the El Salvador Mayors Blend? Again... she says...yeah...but all we are offering today is Guatemala. Im TOTALLY CONFUSED...she NOTICES THIS and OFFERS ZERO ASSISTANCE OR EXPLANATION. Again, me...yeah, but I heard you roast all these coffees ON SITE....This young girl couldnt have cared less, offered ZERO reason as to why ONE TYPE OF COFFEE WAS BEING OFFERED...does this place even sell bags of what I came in for? I wouldnt know, becuz, again...ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS OR INFORMATION...again..the website listed SEVERAL (CURRENTLY BEING OFFERED) kinds of coffee and the TV episode SOLD ME ON THAT FACT...which inspired me to drive and BURN GAS....but yet...Im met with a disinterested millennial offering ZERO explanation. I ordered 2 cups (had a guest with me) This cost me $5 for 2 cups of coffee...is a free refill offered?...WHO KNOWS? I go to the PATHETIC coffee "station" to add the cream...wow...this was a sorry excuse for offerings to add stuff to your coffee. We sat down..took a sip ...GACK!!! When I asked the girl at the counter what were the flavor notes...she said...bright & citrus...NO WAY!!!! If this coffee had citrus notes..it was smokey tobacco leaves soaked in citrus! Both of us were only able to drink barely half....the inside of mouth tasted like I smoked a cigar. This swill was nastier than a cup of Dark Roast STARBUCKS ..it tasted like an overcooked French Roast... but even SB will give you a choice of Breakfast Blend, Dark Roast, etc...this joint?...remember.."Guatemala" take it or leave it! Hopefully the owner reads this and gets to the bottom of what happened here..becuz...NO WAY did my experience NOR THEIR EXPLANATION GIVEN BY HIM ON THE TV SHOW NOR THE WEBSITE REFLECT IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM WHAT TRANSPIRED HERE. Admittedly I'm not a true coffee drinker, but I will occasionally enjoy a mocha or frappuccino. That being said Bridgeport Coffee is pretty good. I've never had an issue with service and the beverages are well made. Not sure where they source the pastries, but they're good too. My latte with almond milk was great! I was a little disappointed they didn't have oat milk but regardless the latte was still good. The reason for 4 stars is I ordered the egg and cheese on a jalapeño bagel. The sandwich was okay, the egg was overly fluffy and soft like an egg patty. I was a little disappointed by it. The latte here is drinkable but there are some very simple things about making a latte that has no excuse to not doing it right - like steaming the milk properly. They also have not invested in testing out the right kind of almond milk - say either pacific or kalifa barista blend. Overall a good visit largely due to the gorgeous outdoor seating. Disclaimer: the 3 stars is mainly for the coffee itself which I'm not a fan of, the actual coffee shop was lovely and I would give it 4 stars. Bridgeport has a medium sized menu and some serious roasting action going on. I ordered a cappuccino and honestly was just weirded out by the flavor. It might depend on who's making it that day so I don't want to say it's their roast but it may well be. Their other snacks are around the $3 price range so nothing outrageous. The shop itself is great, there are 4 different rooms for you to go sit and work in, I'm a fan of the big one in the back with lots of windows and a sill loaded with plants and magazines. No shortage of outlets so this strikes me as a spot great to go camp out and study in. read more

Today I had yet another cappuccino that was spellbinding, but this time my favorite barista clued me in to her favorite syrup: Almond Roca. Sure, I may be easy to please but the syrup was quite good, and I like being pushed to try new things--even when it's a trifling thing such as syrup flavor. It turns out Bridgeport Coffee offers substantial sandwiches too. Today I had the turkey and swiss on wheat tricked out with yellow mustard that blew my mind for some reason. What compliments a great cup of coffee? Great service, great food and very friendly coffee lovers sitting all around you. I was nearby and needed a pick me upper and stopped in and to my surprise I stayed longer than I expected. I ordered my favorite "Americano" and it was made perfect... very smooth and creamy. As I was complimenting the barista, she recommended the chicken salad wrap, she was not wrong at all, it was superb and fresh. Drinking coffee and waiting for laundry in the best damned coffee house in the neighborhood (Bridgeport). Let me clarify. My laundry is not at the coffee house. That would be strange. My laundry is at a laundromat a block away. The coffee house is merely an excellent place to get coffee to ease the process of laundry since most of that process entails sitting and waiting. It is much like installing software, which is another process that benefits from coffee. Many processes benefit from coffee. Except EKGs. Do not drink coffee while having an EKG. It makes the cardiologist nervous. But I digress. If you have a process that benefits from coffee, I recommend this cafe. And if that process requires wifi, excellent pastries, or breakfast sandwiches, more the better. If that process requires quiet, there's these secret sprawling hidden dining rooms off the main room. However, this is probably not a good place for cardiology exams. read more

Want to like this place as it's the only coffee shop around me. However, I have several gripes with this place. Multiple times the cashier and people at the counter treat me with condescending attitudes and looks. This past time made me feel very disrespected and I won't be returning. Their coffee is also garbage. Honestly I don't know what they put in it but it tastes like dog food. The only reason I've made return visits is they have decent donuts and sandwhiches. However, this past time they forgot the hot peppers an only put one pickle in the whole sandwhich. Probably cause they weren't paying attention when I was describing my toppings. For me, Bridgeport coffee sandwiches satisfies my cravings!!! I have particular taste so this may not apply for everyone. I have had their ham and cheese and turkey and cheese sandwiches. Both were excellent! The reason why I love their sandwiches is because they add a lot of prep time into it. When I took my first bite I could taste a lot of flavors and textures in my mouth. The sandwich with the meat and cheese included: diced tomatoes, red onions, romaine lettuce, carrots, some kind of pepper. The peppers are what gives it a little kick! It is a hybrid between a sport pepper and a jalepeno. Yummy.. If you don't like the jalapeños taste then this is not for you. You might request to not add them in. I love that they dice everything because i get all of the flavors in each bite i take. And this also helps the sandwich to not get soggy either on the top or bottom. Very clever. Also they toast their bread which gives it a nice crunch. Their creamy tomato soup is good too! It is a good add on item for $ 1.85. I still haven't found my favorite coffee drink yet but I know will soon. Most likely write another review on all the drinks I taste after trying several of them! read more

Holy smokes Batman, this coffee packs a punch! I ordered a regular, large coffee at 10 am, and I still feel the buzz at night. Wowzers! I was tempted by the donuts, brownies, and other sweets on display but decided to indulge myself another time. This place initially looks small, but keep walking to the back room. On the way you'll pass a smaller sub-room with a couple tables, and you'll also find another couple of tables by the bathroom adjacent to this smaller room.
