The cheese of my prime rib sandwich hadn't even melted and was cold. The fries somehow tasted like cheap potatoes chips and there was no attempt to hide that the she-crab soup was reheated. For how much my meal costed, the taste was that of going to the store buying roast beef, bread, Kraft cheese, and a bag of lays. At least going to the store would have been infinitely cheaper and quicker to eat.

The Brightstar is a one-of-a-kind place that hearkens back to the bygone days of the 50's and 60's. It's a small place nestled back in a residential neighborhood, and does look a little out of place for a business. The food at Brightstar is awesome. I always get the Lottaburger with BBQ slaw, and for the price, it really can't be beat. There's a rather extensive menu with the usual burger, fries, chicken, fish and so on, along with a salad bar and a small ice cream serving area.The restaurant has it's own oldies radio station built into it that broadcasts over the internet worldwide. An original concept, and one that I think is really cool. You can eat inside, or they have the old fashioned drive-in style of dining where you can sit in the car and have a waitress come out to you. There are various events that take place here, such as car shows, ice cream socials, and charity events that draw some impressive crowds. The building could use a coat of paint, and a bit of repair work, but that's a minor issue and one that won't keep me from swinging by for a burger. For a very casual, and family friendly good time, Brightstar hits on all eight cylinders. This business merits the Treefrog Silver Star rating. read more

The Steele Creek Presby building remains off Hiway 160 but the congregation has relocated. The CLT airport has taken over this area. They adding longer runways and expanding the airport. Steele Creek neighborhood has come under 'eminent domain'. This place is a legacy to those bygone days. In the same building and location over 70 years. I stopped in today to get some lunch. I probably should have called it in because when I got there at 1230p the place was packed, no seats available and everyone picking-up 'to go' orders. They are only open during the week and shut down the kitchen at 3p. Very popular with all the area work crews and airport area workers. Each day of the week they have a 'special' so today I got the cheeseburger that comes with a side and a beverage for $11.00 bucks. It was real good, not amazing but 'real good' is legit. The fries were real good too. I took a bunch of pics of the menu so you can see it's extensive and the prices are very reasonable for the food quality and portion size. Fancy, no, gravel parking lot, yes, call in orders, yes, clean, yes, organized, YES! The phone didn't stop ringing when I was there. In the parking lot was Duke Power work trucks, next to Pike work trucks and all kinds of construction work trucks. It's a throw back place that has managed to survive in an area off I-485 that has exploded in growth over the years and next to CLT Airport that keeps on getting bigger as well as other support type business. I'm not sure where the 'grocery' part comes in but they sell beers by the case and tall boy singles so maybe that's the grocery part. Go check it out before it gets gone!
