Stopped by Hillbilly BBQ & Steaks in Lowell and had a really solid experience. It reminds me a lot of Hannah's BBQ not too far away, but I'd probably give Hillbilly the slight edge as my preferred spot in the area. The chopped pork was delicious and the extra sauce they included was perfect. The hushpuppies were fried exactly the way they should be... crispy on the outside and soft inside. The mac and cheese wasn't my personal favorite, but the coleslaw was excellent (honestly about a 9.5/10 for me). Service was also great. I had no idea what I was doing at the drive-thru window, but the staff treated me with total patience and friendliness the whole time. Great food, great service, and definitely a place I'd stop by again. read more

I have been coming to Hillbilly's for many many years and have never once been disappointed in the food or service. Generous portions, home cooked sides, friendly fast service. Hillbilly's serves some of the best ribs and mac and cheese around. Pulled pork and sauces are amazing too. Oh and the turkey and chicken! Love love! read more

Came here to celebrate a birthday. At 1:30 p.m. on a Sunday it was still pretty busy. But we were seated right away at the table we wanted. They have a lot of space inside and tables. Our server was nice and got right to business. I browsed the menu beforehand so already knew what I wanted. I went for the lunch portion of a pulled pork plate. Lunch is until 3 p.m. by the way. Also there's a senior menu as well. Kids under 3 eat free. So I got the chopped pulled pork with collard greens and a corn cobbette. My daughter got a kids meal with Mac and cheese and fries. Drinks are separate. We got our drinks and complimentary hushpuppies first. The hushpuppies were good and served with BBQ sauce. My food was good and the lunch portion was bigger than I expected. I wish I had asked for the sauce on the side because sometimes I like to taste the meat without it. The pork wasn't too fatty which is sometimes hard to find. Collards and corn were okay, could have used a little more seasoning. It was a decent meal with food and service. It was crowded so was a little louder than I preferred. The food is pretty good here. I appreciate the fact that they smoke their food right on the premises. There's sides are delicious and well seasoned, I just wish the portion sizes were a little larger. The ambience is casual with a down home country feel to it. This is definitely a place I would visit again and again and again. On the downside, I find that their white meat is a little dry at times. We go there every week. It is usually good. This week my BBQ was covered with more sauce than BBQ. It was BBQ soup. I told the waitress, Amy. She said she let them know and off she went. When she came by again, I said it's not good. She said I could get the sauce on the side next time. I think she should have taken the plate back. I ate about half. It was not good. The restaurant is located close to I-85 which is nice for us travelers. Easy to find, plenty of parking and large, clean interior. The staff were incredibly friendly and the food came out quickly which was great for us. The hush puppies they bring out to begin with are really good. I give this a 3 only based on our experience. When we first walked in the door our waitress and everything else was superior but my point here is when you have 2 girls in the front arguing over another co-worker and instead of addressing your customers and they look up and still argue it gives the impression that greeting your customers and seeing them is not your first priority. Hadn't been here in years. It's not the same as the one I used to know before they moved and built a new restaurant. Came here during dinner. Okra was overcooked and not warm. Hushpuppies were not any better. Potato was hot. Baked beans was okay. They used to have barbeque in them. No sign of any barbeque. I accidentally ordered the Hillbillies platter thinking it came with barbeque but found out it didn't. That was on me so asked the waitress to add a $5 dollar barbeque order to my dinner. Waited for it to be brought to me. Never came. No loss when she brought me my receipt instead. I may try it again thinking maybe it was an off night. Visited their new location just a mile or so off I-85. Very nice spacious and well appointed. Keeping their tradition, the kitchen area is open for viewing. Our party of 6 seated immediately, about 4:30 early dinner, and quickly brought hot delicious hush puppies. Drinks came soon afterward. I was looking at a chopped pork sandwich but eschewed the bun and went for the senior chopped pork plate with onion rings. Good choice, it was much larger than expected! Plus they had regular tomato based sauce, mustard based sauce and spicy vinegar based sauce! The latter my fav and not easy to find outside East Carolina. Rings were crisp and delightful. My wife chose the same with tomato based sauce and loved it also. Since our party was all family, some of whom hadn't been together for years, we chatted before, during and long after our meal. Our waitress was fantastic and kept filling our tea as we chatted. Then the restaurant became very busy and we parted. An excellent meal, very reasonable prices, superb service, it was certainly worth going out of our way. When we are back in the area, we'll definitely return! read more

We love this place. The food is never sub-par. The restaurant is always clean. But the waitresses need to keep their opinions to themselves. We came in one night and ordered the monster burger. The waitress wouldn't stop about how big the burger was, and she couldn't believe this particular person could eat it all in one setting. And that she could never even eat half of it. She had this person in tears AT THE TABLE from embarrassment bc they already are weight conscious. It was a treat. And it should never need to be explained what we order. This person didn't even finish their meal. They just stopped eating. From now on, we'll either order pick up or ask for another wait staff. I have been a customer of this place for YEARS. I grew up on their food. But the past two to-go orders I have not been pleased. The amount of sauce they give you is literally a spoonful for a whole plate of meat. I normally don't write reviews but I called the restaurant to speak with someone and was never called back. Spending money (+ tip), on food that you have to go home and add random barbecue sauce from the fridge to is not right. I also had to do this the previous time I got a take out order and let it go because things happen in fast food.. but now I see this is standard for them. This is based off of 2 identical meals on a Saturday night, going through the drive thru. 2 orders of tips,baked potato with the gravy and peppers and onions and side salad with ranch. Tips 6 PCs each and looked very small. Very very grisly. Hate to say this I'm a Retired butcher and this cut shouldn't have made it through the cutting stage. Other than that it was cooked right. Potato was big and done. Not much to say about that. Salad was just lettuce 2 cherry tomatoes and I think carrot straws. Ranch was GOOD tho. And some burnt bread all for almost 30$. ‍ Drive thru was fast and efficient. So customer service was good. When in the future with an option to go here,most likely not. Definitely disappointed with this place ended up getting some raw chicken that was not cooked throughly spoke to a waitress there and she said that the manager was too busy so she took down my name and number and said the manager would call me the next day well next day came and a week came nobody ever called us considering we were both in the emergency room for severe food poisoning. I just catered food for the first time and all I have to say is WOW! We had Ribs, Pulled pork, chicken and for the sides we had baked beans, collard greens, hush puppies, mac and cheese and slaw.
