We visited the Brigatine Monastery in Amity, Oregon, famous for its delectable truffles and fudge. This working monastery is often a stop for those returning from the Oregon coast, and it was definitely worth our visit--the truffles are truly delicious! We also took a moment to explore their charming small church, which was beautiful. The weather was perfect, with plenty of birds around, and the lovely property boasts extensive orchards right at the entrance. Although there isn't much parking, it felt serene and quiet during our visit. We were the only ones there and had a short wait for the chocolate shop to open. The two ladies who greeted us were lovely and professional, offering us tastings of their chocolates before we indulged and purchased a pound for ourselves. This is a very tiny, very basic-no-frills chocolate shop way, way down a gravel road. Sadly, you will not be seeing an actual Monk doing the selling, but the gal behind the counter was very nice and knowledgeable. The chocolate/ fudge/ truffles are decent, but the prices have gone up and I'm not sure it's worth it - $18.25 for 12oz of fudge, $4.25 for a single truffle. Lots of flavors (but no coconut !?!?) and tastes are free - if you are going to drive all the way out there you might as well taste! read more

A very beautiful spiritual experience. I have been before in but in spring time the grounds are breathtaking. Be sure to stop into the chapel and check out the stained glass. Can't even describe how beautiful they are when the light shines through. Beyond all of that the fudge is delicious! read more

Exquisitely delicious fudge, but customer service is awful, so only two stars for that reason. Ordered four boxes of Chocolate Cherry Fudge for gifts, received only one in my total order. No explanation, notice of depleted stock, nothing. I tried contacting "Brigittine" three times, and could get no one to respond. I know "B" is a religious order, but if you are going to engage in a commercial enterprise, provide user-friendly customer service. As it stands, I have no fudge, and am out $51.15. Just beware, if you place an order for multiple items, they may not come, and you'll be whistling down the wind if you try to find help. I heard about your delightful truffles and fudge from a wonderful nurse in SW WA. I immediately ordered an assortment. I was pleasantly surprised at the speed of shipping, the quality and craftsmanship of packaging in addition to the unique tantalizing flavors. I must confess- I placed an order to do a home taste testing so I know what to send as gifts. But, who am I kidding, I have had two boxes hidden in my sock drawer for several months now along with a cheese knife. We ordered 10 boxes, planning to use them as thank you gifts to parish friends who have been helping us out during a difficult time. The fudge comes in a nice box. Unfortunately, that was the best part. 1) The texture of the fudge is oddly gelatinous. You cannot cut off a piece of fudge and serve it -- the product smears on the knife, and becomes a shapeless was when served. 2) The flavor? What a zero. Little taste of chocolate. We got three varieties, including cherry and peanut butter flavored. Close your eyes and you have no clue what you are eating. The peanut butter part tastes mildly of caramel, but not of peanuts. The cherry flavor has taste of cherry choughdrops. 3) We are too embarrassed to give this to our friends. It is an extruded, factory produced fudge with production standards clearly set to minimize costs. Somebody said they sell a different product at the monastery. Maybe. I know this fudge was designed by an accountant, not a candy maker. A hard pass on ever ordering again. read more

This place is hard to find unless you are actively looking for it- I found out about it from the Velvet Monkey in McMinnville because they sold their chocolates. Looked it up online and bookmarked it, and this last weekend I decided to make a visit. Located inside a monastery, you must drive on a gravel road out into the country a bit. At first I wondered if I was going the right way, but soon enough I was pulling into the quiet and peaceful churchyard. There is a small garden you walk through and once you reach the building, you ring a doorbell where an employee greets you. The customer service was top-notch, with all questions being answered and samples provided. Options include truffles, both large and small, and trays of fudge. Most of their wares are sold in gift packs meant to be shipped, but they also sell individual pieces too. Everything I tried was delicious- the cherry filled truffle was buttery in the inside with a maraschino piece right on the tip. Fudge was fresh and also buttery, not hard and crumbly like many places will make it. Not sure if it's due to freshness or quality of ingredients, but I'll wager both are elements to the superb quality. If you want a relaxed drive out to the Oregon countryside and wish to sample chocolate, I highly recommend stopping here. read more

The best truffles and fudge anywhere around. My friends from Nevada said I needed to pick some up before we went down to visit them. Always requested when I go visit friends and relatives out of state. You won't be disappointed. I recently placed two orders for the Monks' fine chocolates. Due to the pandemic, there was a delay in shipping. However, this was communicated to me so no worries on my part. Each of my recipients were delighted with the truffles! The Monks apparently felt they should apologize for the delay, which was beyond their control, so they sent me a complementary box of truffles. Egad. Totally unexpected. However, I immediately opened the box. Oh so delicious. Probably not going to share them. The monk's of this order have been well known in Oregon for a few decades now as they have been making fudge and chocolate to help fund their monastic life. The priory church and chocolate tasting room are tucked away at the end of a gravel road lined with hazelnut trees in a rural area in Oregon's wine country. I am not a chocolate fan, generally. Ran into this place on a road trip through Oregon. We were in the midst of farmlands and not much of anything when several winery signs popped up, and the Monastery. I had remembered the name of the monastery from reading a magazine of things to see if you happen to have time while visiting the area. I am so glad we stopped. There is a small modern church connected to the monastery and shop. You can take a look inside the church. It is serene and peaceful. The shop is small and a friendly lady welcomed us and gave us some samples. The samples sell the chocolate. It wasn't even a flavor I usually like. They not only tasted amazing, but they are also BEAUTIFUL! The truffles are on the larger size. These are not bitesize. They are definitely two bites per chocolate. My husband and I shared them. There are many flavors to choose from. You can buy them fresh, or purchase a pre-packaged box. We bought some for us to share, and to bring home for colleagues. I was concerned that the boxed chocolate would not taste as good as the brand spanking fresh newbies. However, the boxed chocolates made it safely home and still tasted incredible! There is a reason these chocolates have been highlighted in many well-known magazines. They are incredible!! They also ship! I wish I had bought more. They would make excellent Christmas gifts. The first time I came upon the Monastery, I was not feeling well, and my friend thought I needed some Comfort and Consolation arrived at the Monastery just in time to sample the most wonderous~Heavenly Fudge! It is exquisite and I do not know which I loved the most. we wound up buying 3 different kinds....but it's not just about the Fudge...or Truffles. There is a Beautiful Statue of Our Lady of Consolation in the Courtyard next to the most inviting and Sacred Chapel. I actually felt the Healing Presence of Divine Mother in that Place. I have been back 4 more times since that first visit. Always, I experience that same comfort and Peace...even from Sir Thomas the Cat.It truly is a Place of Peace and Comfort.! It's a stale, overpriced hunk of indifferent chocolate flavored something called fudge. Walnuts? Little shards of it scattered sparsely throughout. As I read the other reviews they are gushing on and on about the setting, the people. Nobody I read here got theirs by mail as did I. I suspect that they are actually on about the marketing and the setting. I've had worse fudge, but not much worse. When I inquired, they refused to answer specific questions I had about how long it had been in stock, is it really made on site, is it from prefab product purchased... they just sent me another unappetizing block that has no actual tastable walnuts that is gruesomely replete with corn syrup reminiscient flavoring. What I have does not look like any of the photos on the website. Maybe THOSE items are actually hand made and fresh. The mail order fudge most certainly is not. Avoid this garbage. Buy real fudge made by someone in your own town to get the real thing. read more

For years, I have stopped here to shop at a "Best Kept Secret" but its time to tell all. The Brigittine Monks Gourmet Confections. Homemade in Amity, Oregon. "What" you say. If you are a chocolate fan, you need to know about this peaceful lovlely place, dare I say it, with a tasting room. This is a monastary which supports itself on Fudge and Truffles. Surrounded by ponds and Filbert Tree groves set out in the Willamette Valley countryside, it is an oasis. (Be sure to visit the chapel) Their busy time is obviously Christmas, but I don't let that detere me the rest of the year. I come every time and I bring people with me. The chocolate is a heavenly experience. I had too say it. Couldn't avoid the pun. They boast using the best real chocolate, fresh dairy butter, real cream, fresh nuts, and natural flavors. Granted, I may be a smidge biased, as my cousin is the prior. Wonderful, wonderful fudge, especially the amaretto variety. It's like eating the world's creamiest and most flavorful cake frosting. I'm not so fond of the truffles, which are a little too difficult to eat and have a chocolate-to-filling ratio that doesn't do it for me, but I can't bring myself to dock a star. A unique experience. Started out with a confusing parking area without marked parking, at one point I thought the whole area was marked as handicap parking. There are no signs to point you in the right direction, so choosing the right building is a roll of the dice. Once we found the store there was an open sign on the door, but another sign instructs you to ring the door bell. An unhappy monk answered the unlocked door and begrudgedly gave us one microscopic sample of fudge. Feeling as though we should support the monastery we purchased a box of fudge and went on our way. On the way home from our 10 minute experience my wife noticed that the fudge we purchased will expire next week. Ironically we stopped at a winery on the way home and saw the same fudge with an expiration date of August. Seems odd they have fresher fudge outside the monastery where it's made. read more

Priory of Our lady of Consolation is located in the beautiful open fields of the Amity country side. The monastery has wonderful grounds to stroll about before walking into their gift center were Wendy will offer you samples of the fudge the Monks are currently making. Fudge this good is sinful (excuse the pun). I wasn't able to leave without purchasing a one pound box for myself. Here it is...Christmas morning...My husband hands me a box of truffles...courtesy of his coworker...Let me tell you something...These folks make the BEST truffles..I am a dedicated See's lover...but these folks would give See's a run for their money...These are definitely a decadent treat..The truffles are huge, creamy and chocolaty. The one that I just devoured was maple and it was oh so good...Will definitely have to order some online as I don't live anywhere near OR...Keep up the Good work Monks! :) read more
