This review is not for the color service iitself. That was fine.; It was adequate. However, I am concerned about how they charge for their services.. I was charged $140 for a root touch up. While this is at least $20 more than I've been charged at other Adveda salons (6 mos ago) , It is certainly their prerogative to charge that fee. The main issues are their business practices and a major discrepancy between the prices listed on their website ($80 and up for root touch up) and what they are actually charging. I brought this to their attention over the phone the day after the service, and the response I got, presumably from the owner, was that she didn't know where I was seeing that. I clearly reiterated that I was looking at their website, and that if the prices listed weren't current, they needed to be updated. I also did not receive a receipt at the time of service. I later requested it, and was told that it would be texted to me, but I never received it. I decided to write this review after reading another review from three years ago that mirrored my own experience--charged much higher than fees listed on the website with no receipt for service given. I am now feeling a bit dubious about the way they do business, and suspect that there might be different prices for the same service, for different people. I will acknowledge that I neglected to verify the fee when I made the appointment, which is something I always typically do. I also waited for a half hour past my appointment to be seen (without explanation or acknowledgment of the delay) but I have also experienced this at another local aveda salon. My appointment was almost 1 month ago, and as of today the website information remains the same. read more

Lan is extraordinary and I wish I could find the Philadelphia version of her! My cousin was married this past weekend in Sonoma County, but I had been so busy in the days leading up to my flight that I had completely forgotten about my hair. I squeezed in a quick cut before leaving Philly, but I completely ruined my hair color as I tried to lighten it. Lan was kind enough to squeeze me in and did an amazing job on my hair! Everyone who works here is so kind and lovely. The salon is located in a convenient mellow spot surrounded by other businesses. There are plenty of parking spots so that's never an issue. The salon itself is immaculate and stylish. There are relaxing fountains and the color scheme is serene, a nice little escape. They carry Aveda products, which are high quality. The hairstylist I would like to give particular high praise to is Vivian for boys/mens cuts. Vivian gives a very high level of attention and care to haircuts. They are consistently flawless and that is so important to boys because you can't hide anything with curling like girls can. She always greets us with a big smile and is welcoming and thoughtful. The service was excellent! My hairstylist was Vivian and she brought my hair back to life! I went in for a big chop and layers and she did wonderful. My hair was extremely damaged so we got rid of all the dead ends and my hair feels much better. I was very happy with my shampoo service, haircut, and styling. I went and got a "bayalage" and walked out with bleach blonde highlights instead. I even stated after the dying that I didn't like how obvious the lightening was and that I wanted it fixed. She put toner on my roots right in the front but now the highlights awkwardly start an inch away from my scalp. Everyone was really nice, but it was not what I wanted at all. I payed $125 and now have to go somewhere else to get it fixed. The manager said she couldn't fit me in for another 4 days just to SEE it. She didn't say that she'll fix it and got very hostile when I said I at least wanted my money back. She did not hear me out and I felt that she was very rude. read more

Guys, Carol is who you want to talk to. I don't know if she is gonna give you the highlights or vanilla Ice tips... not my thing, but I'm sure she is fully capable if you asked her to. I go see her at least once a month (as ordered by the wife) and she always gets me cleaned up nice. She used to be at the California Cuts in Bennett Valley in SR. I assume that store wont last long without her there. Every time I would call to get an appointment the other ladies were pretty much Carol's reception staff, ha ha. She listened to what I wanted and continued to check in with me as she was cutting to make sure I was happy with what she was doing. I've gone here for over two years, and so has my son. They do a great job of always fitting me in since I always call last minute. If they can't squeeze me in the same day which is usually 80% of the time, it's usually within a couple days. It's a little more expensive than a typical barber shop, but the price has never steered me away since it's always worth what they charge. I found this place right before I moved from Windsor and needed my hair done badly and wasnt happy with the lady I had been going to so I just walked in here not knowing anything about the place. Lan fit me in and she did the best job that anyone has ever done. At that point, I was mad I was leaving and havent found her the 4 years that I lived in Windsor. She colored and highlighted my hair and gave me the best cut and style. I also love the products. Now I live in Santa Clara and drive back just to go to her. She fits me in her schedule and spends time to make sure my cut is perfect. The last time I went, Peter rinsed my hair out while she finished someone up and OMG, it was the best! He massaged my scalp for like 10 min as he rinsed. BEST EVER!! Its also a treat to have a hairdresser that looks good herself! Nothing worse than going to someone who does hair and their hair looks like they just woke up! I cant say enough good about this salon. Its clean, relaxing and everyone is very nice. This place is excellent!!! They have the best product line that is made from mostly natural ingredients & is SO much better than any other color I've ever tried! It's not often that you can walk out of a salon after color w/out color on your scalp unless you go to Brilliance!!! I've also noticed a lack of allergic reaction from their color! They do such a wonderful job showing you products you might like & showing & explaining why they are so wonderful w/out feeling pressured to buy then all (very rare)! And the people are the true gem of the place, they are all very kind & bend over back words to help you & give you what you want done w/out trying to talk you into something you don't want!!! Lupita cut my hair, and gave me bangs for the first time in a long time! She did an amazing job. I wasn't sure what to expect on the short notice I made my appointment, but the cut included a hair wash (omg her nails are long, it felt great!) a hair cut, and a hair style. I went in on a Friday afternoon, and it was so sweet of her to ask me if I had plans for the evening... She threw a few curls in so I looked hot for my night out. Toward the end, I asked her if she would also cut me some bangs, at which she smiled, brought out her scissors, and started back at it. Let me start by saying I got my hair cut over a couple months ago, and I'm on here writing this review with such satisfaction this much later. Coming in again this week Lan! After moving to Sonoma County I have had the hardest time finding a decent place to get a quality medium length guy's haircut. I've gotten butchered by "stylists" at Supercuts, Sportsclips, and even hip "Barbershop" style places. They all simply just buzzed my sides and clipped the top, put some gel in and kicked me out. I have even made my way to an expensive female salon. They were good...if I had long female hair... When I asked them to cut my hair their confidence was there, but I could tell they had no idea how to use clippers around ears and whatnot. One day I found Brilliance Salon on yelp and gave them a shot.. YES YES YES. Exactly what you want from a hair cut. I called them and they had an appointment right away. I was helped by a very nice lady by the name Lan. She asked me what I want to do with my hair, what I don't like about it, and she just KNEW what to do. Great service! Washed my hair, great conversation, easy to talk to. She even noticed spots that the last barber has messed up and fixed them. Quality hair cut.
