We went here a few times and always saw Dr. Bishop, who is truly wonderful. Caring, knowledgeable, personable. Can't say enough great things about him. Once happened to meet him on the street and he was really friendly. Only bad thing about Brilliant is the hours. If you don't work and can get there during normal business hours, it shouldn't be a problem, but since I work full time, the hours didn't work for me. So we go to Bond Vet on 77th and Amsterdam and I am happy with the care and the hours are much easier for me to manage. If Brilliant had better hours, we wouldn't have gone elsewhere. read more

On New Years Eve day, my Miniature Wirehair Dachshund, Bitsie injured her back, I think coming down her foam stairs from a livingroom chair. I noticed her just sitting, not walking and I realized my worst nightmare. With no where to go until Brilliant opened on January 2nd. I made her comfortable and prevented her from moving, carrying her for food, water & weepad. When I got an emergency appointment on the 2nd, they evaluated her immediately, and Jennifer told me her hind legs were indeed paralyzed. [I know this is long, but the outcome is worth the read] By now her regular vet, Dr. Bayazit had arrived and took charge. She confirmed the grim diagnosis, but rather than x-rays & ultrasound etc, Dr. Bayazit immediately gave Bitsie steroids, gabapentin & a laser treatment. I was told to keep her still [preferably in a crate] and follow-up appointment on Monday. Bitsie has made a miracle recovery thanks to the quick action of Dr. Bayazit and her treatment instructions to me. Steroids and Gabapentin twice a day, lasser treatments twice a week, and yes she was crated for 3 weeks. My vocabulary is inadequate to appropriately discribe how thankful I am for the outsanding care Dr. Bayazit has given Bitsie. Shout out to all the amazing thoughtful team...especially Maureen [nurse] and Crystal [handler]. Bitsie now has a stroller [she'll be 12yrs in June] so we ride some and WALK some. This review is long overdue. tl;dr I wish I could give them 10/5 stars. You should absolutely bring your pets here. I had to put my dog down unexpectedly early last year. I will never forget the team at BVC for supporting my dog DJ (and me) through this heartbreaking period with such grace, commitment and care. Although thinking of DJ still brings me to tears, there are no feelings of regret or wondering if we should have tried this or that. I completely trusted the team and I knew that we were making the best decisions we could for DJ at every step. They made sure that I understood what was happening to him as things progressed, fully supported every decision I made, advised me on how to get him the best care that was within my budget and were so so generous throughout the week that we fought to get him better. Thank you to everyone here that made one of the most devastating periods of my life manageable. I can't recommend the team enough. Bonus, they always have availability and they're great with cats too! When my cat tore out her nail while playing they were able to see and treat her the same day. The best vet's office I have found in nearly 18 years (and 4 cities) as a pet owner. I switched to BVC when my cat had a bad UTI and her former vet's entire office was out with COVID and could not see her on an immediate basis. BVC was extremely accommodating and from that moment on provided her with incredible care. Everyone in the office is warm and caring, and of course knowledgeable. I brought her in this past weekend sensing that she was not herself and something was wrong, and they were incredibly kind and supportive when they shared her poor prognosis, and in helping me make the difficult decision to let her go. They made a heartbreaking experience as easy as possible for me. To top it off, they sent a beautiful flower arrangement and a note of condolences - going above and beyond. My cat was not eating and was throwing up. They were able to get me an appointment and she was given fluids and medication. The doctor was very clear and concise, asked a lot of questions about if I understood and if I had any questions. All the staff here was nice and they called the next day to check in on my kitty. I was able to happily tell them she was fine. It was about $1000 for X-ray, bloodwork, fluids, examination, a prescription antacid, and I believe they also gave her an anti-inflammatory. We recently switched our vet care to BVC - it was the best decision I have ever made. The team at BVC make you feel like family from the moment you step into the door w/ your furry friend. Our 12 year old kitty crawled into the lap of the doctor (Dr. Bishop) on our first visit. I knew immediately this is where we were supposed to be. Dr. Bishop is a GEM. Is there an option to provide 1000 stars? I brought my almost 10 year old lab in for a bit of an emergency related to his arthritis which another vet was not really helpful in managing the pain. Breaking down my experience so far into a few core measures. 1) Expediency: They were able to see me quickly, which is not common in most NYC vet practices. The first available appointment was the day I'd called, since this was urgent it was much appreciated. The appointment time was the appointment time - was seen within 10 mins of the scheduled time & the receptionist was communicative along the way. 2) Care: Dr Bishop is amazing. Upon first meeting we spent a good amount of time talking about my needs for my pet and history before him even examining my dog. After examining my dog he provided next steps in a careful and educational manner, even providing websites of the therapies he would like to use. He spent a lot of time walking me through his thought process and sent a follow up email outlining the care procedures he'd recommended. Cannot say enough great things about this experience. We scheduled XRays for the same week & the experience was exactly the same. 3) Facility: It is clear that a lot of thought went into creating an environment that is welcoming & inviting. This is often overlooked at most vet clinics in the area. The exam rooms, waiting areas, and really every corner of this place are well designed and accomodating for pets and their owners. They even have a candle they light when someone is saying goodbye to their pet & ask for respect of the space, which makes it clear that they care. 4) Follow Ups: As with most new yorkers- I have a really busy schedule. Brilliant clearly respects this tons & leaves detailed voicemails and emails. This gives me the information I need to quickly follow up and return to my insane schedule. I made an account simply to warn anyone who will listen, if you truly love your pet take them somewhere else. Brilliant is not in the business of care, they are in the business of making money and they will use the love you have for your pet against you. The office is clean and they are friendly in a very superficial way but when it comes to actual care their goal is to push you into to spending as much money as they can. They will recommend unnecessary tests and prescribe medicines (without sharing side effects, thus meaning you'll be back for more medicines), all this based off guess work. I took my dog in with diarrhea and now he suffers seizures based on the medication they recommended. Do not be fooled by the superficial service or the girl boss energy they use to rope you in. Find a place where the vets actually know what there talking about and will at least take your pets temperature before prescribing life-changing drugs. read more

this vet is literally amazing. they're always so considerate and understanding, it's SO much more affordable than vet's ive been to previously (even outside of the city), and they don't try to tack on unnecessary tests etc (in fact dr. bishop has talked me out of unnecessary costs a couple times now). i'm a busy grad student and my cat has epilepsy & asthma, and they've always been accommodating w/ last minute appointments and prescription pick ups. i'm pretty sure ive even left a review before but leaving one again because i am still so impressed!! my cat is also pretty reactive w/ vets and they just drew her blood in like 5 mins with no issues read more

They go above and beyond to make sure you're taken care of. Called in about a potential prescription to calm my dog with the fireworks and was given the prescription the next day they were open. Since moving to the neighborhood, and in the midst of a serious veterinary care shortage, Brilliant Care has consistently found time to fit me in when both of my dogs were sick - even when they were fully cooked. All veterinary care is more expensive now, but I am so glad that I switched to Brilliant from my slightly less expensive local vet just before my sweet 14 yr old cat was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The fancy animal hospital that did the diagnosis charged $1400 just to tell me he was terminal without even giving me pain management for him, but at Brilliant I knew they cared about him and felt as supported as possible until it was time to let him go. Our cat needed emergency surgery and after hearing the outrageous estimate at an emergency clinic we were heartbroken and desperate. They provided the care we needed and performed the surgery at an affordable price. When we left our cat in their care, we knew she was in the best hands. I have limited vet experience but this was hands down the best I've ever had (and the circumstances under which I visited this vet were less than ideal!!). My dog was attacked at a dog park shortly before this vet was scheduled to close. New to the area, I didn't know where to go, so I called the first vet that pulled up on Google (after seeing it basically had five star reviews). They squeezed my dog in and did everything they could to accommodate us last minute. They scheduled a surgery for first thing the next morning, so we wouldn't have to go to an emergency clinic. They cared for my dog patiently and thoroughly, despite her anxious, uncooperative behavior at vets. They adjusted the care based on her needs and personality. The communication (including from vet, tech, and administrative staff) was top notch. Prices are reasonable. I would HIGHLY recommend this vet and will be establishing my dog as a regular patient here. So thankful I found them! read more
