They have a great outside area overlooking the beach, great beer and friendly service (for the most part). Although the Irish waitress called me "love" a lot, she called me "lover" at one point (kind of inappropriate) and she then she made some comments under her breath when she looked at my driver's license which I could not fully understand (something about you need to update your ID because you're not this young anymore). Besides this exchange, the Asian Chicken Salad was actually excellent! Don't expect much from the service people here- it's all about the view and drinks! read more

We had a great time New Years Eve at the Brit but unfortunately when we came to leave my jacket had gone. I went in the next day to see if it was there and Andy said he would look on the security film as it had been sitting on a chair. He spent literally hours going through the films even though I told him it was a lost cause and he eventually not only found the culprit but found out who he was and arranged for my jacket to be returned! Now if that is not excellent customer service I don't know what is!!! Also love the curry and fish and chips and as a Brit, I am pretty picky!! read more

Ok I am not a person who likes fish or even think of it as a category of food. Yet once every 5-7 years I crave fish and chips ( Brit style) no fish sticks or anything else they try to call fish and chips, ( I'm a very picky eater and everything has to be just so, I've always been this way.) So the only place I know of that can pull off a close to "Brit style" is all the way up in Davenport. When I heard about this place I thought that I would try it, and planed on throwing it away and just end up wasting more money, I don't have. So I looked at the plates that was in front of me and thought it looked OK, I then pick it up and just take a wee nibble...I then proceeded to guard my plate like a starving animal and would hit anybody who tried to pick that wonderful delicious plate of fish and chips. I am still not fond of fish and I only crave it at certain times yet I now know where to go when I want it and that is the Britannia Arms in Capitola. Yet I still look forward to trying many of their traditional dishes from home. So I give Great thanks to the owners for their knowledge in picking the perfect Chef, and to the chef I bow my head in thanks to his culinary greatness and use of fresh ingredients. read more

Having read a rather bad review of the British waitress with cowboy boots, I was a bit reluctant to check out this new Britannia Arms. I was quite a fan of the Aptos location; the Capitola location lacking the whole British Pub atmosphere. However, I must say I was a bit disappointed, and surprised, to find out that the above mentioned waitress was anything but rude! Seeing that she was the only wait staff for the lunch hour, I was amazed at her talent to manage both the patio and main dining room. Yes, it was busy and she was rushed. However, she never came across that way to any of the customers, from what I observed. She served every patron with a smile. When she came out to the patio area, not only did she have my selected drinks, but her tray was loaded with about a dozen pint glasses for all the tables. How she identified the different beers and who ordered what, as well as balancing that tray with one hand, was beyond me! My lunch was delicious. I later found out that, even before my food arrived, Laura decided my fries were not fresh enough and had the cook remake them. When is the last time you had any wait staff stop your food and have the cook remake something? Truly Amazing!!!! As a joke, I complained that I burned my lip on my fries! It was refreshing to have fries that freshly made!!! So, from what I experienced and observed, Laura is nothing short of efficient and professional. Even though it lacks the British Pub feel, my experience has made me a fan of the new Britannia Arms. The only thing missing were the cowboy boots! read more

I took a day trip to Capitola yesterday with a friend and we decided we needed a bloody mary to start our day. This place is right off the beach with a bar and a patio and we thought it would be perfect! We we went in and sat at the bar and were helped immediately by who we were guessing was the owner. He made us both great bloody marys and we sat on the patio to enjoy our drinks, the weather, and the view of the beach right in front of us. We weren't hungry so we didn't look at a menu or anything, but I would definitely come back for the drinks and to try some food! read more

The food was excellent, i had the Swiss Scramble, portion and presentation was excellent as well as the staff They were friendly and attentive! Nice ambiance, and perfect location... But the food was not even worth half the price. While the owners were very nice, the customer service was aweful since they had only one waitress working. The prawns were bland and flavorless, and the clam chowder was clearly canned as well. loked forward to this place after the over priced steak house and was quite disappointed this evening. had a turkey burger which was obviously a packaged burger wtih too much seasoning and no flavor. had heniz mustard but inferior katsup and so was totally inedible. must say waitress noted it and compedthe dish but i left hungry. read more

My friends and I stumbled upon this place a couple Fridays ago, we did not eat just had drinks so I can not speak to the food, but I can say the bartender and the drinks were awesome! You could tell Noelle (the bartender) liked her job and really made your experience a nice/fun one. She mixed us up some drinks that she recommended and they were so good and strong! A nice surprise considering a lot of places charge a fortune for the weakest drinks! Everyone else at the bar seemed to be having a great time too. The bar is pretty small but it was still easy to get a drink and Noelle was always on top of asking if we wanted another one even before we were completely dry. I would totally recommend this place for a fun bar with a great view, to get some drinks with friends. Be sure to ask for Noelle though! I would have rated this place higher but the draft beers were pricey, if I can remember correctly they were $6 a glass (I think anything over $5 is ridiculous!) I was a customer for over 30 years at this restaurant from when it opened in Aptos. Today I came in and the waitress (owner) was curt to say the least. I said I was waiting for a friend with her Service Dog and she would be there shortly. I took a seat and the waitress (Owner) asked if I wanted anything. I ordered ice tea with sugar free sweetener. In a harsh tone she said our ice tea is already unsweetened. She brought me sugar. To say the least she did not treat me well as other waitresses have in the past. My friend showed up with her service dog and was told she could not have the dog on the premise. She also got up to get me some artificial sweetener at the bar with her dog in tow and the waitress said that was all they had (sugar). My friend said she was getting what I requested. The owner (waitress) said you are trying to do my job and you must keep that dog under the table. She can be no where in the restaurant but under the table. My friend said I got my friend substitute sugar. My friend and I were thrown out of the restaurant. I said, "What did I do?" The bartender said nothing, you can stay but your friend has to go. I am appalled by the treatment of my friend and her service dog as well as me. My friend brought me to the restaurant at my request. This restaurant has no concept of how important a service dog is to its owner. I will NEVER go to this restaurant again and I hope many other people also take a second look at this restaurant. My friend and I have never been thrown out of a restaurant our entire lives. read more

Came to Capitola for my birthday and in my exploring the village came upon Britannia Arms, great location with patio seating with view of ocean and beach. Sat at the bar and we were served by the owner Andy, a true British gentleman, made us feel welcome and poured a great pint of Guinness. Not only did he make us feel welcome he introduced us to many locals that were all great to share some birthday cheer with. Andy gave us great suggestions for dining in Capitola and not just the Britannia Arms, some of the locals suggested the BA had a great prime rib special that night that was a great deal. We came back for dinner and were promptly seated and our waitress Irene took great care of our table as we dined on a great slab of prime rib and a great price for this quality of beef. We enjoyed this place so much we went back the next day for happy hour and Andy in his generous way brought out sausage rolls from the kitchen for the bar patrons to enjoy , fantastic bar snack. I could go on about how much we enjoyed our visit to Britannia Arms but if you enjoy a Pub run by a Brit and killer prices then make this a stop when your in Capitola. LOVED THIS PLACE AND ALL of my new friends at the Britannia Arms that made my birthday special. read more

The food, the service, the staff is astoundingly accomodating, welcoming and genuinely caring. My husband and I go here all the time because it is probably the most affordable restaurant on the esplanade and trust me we have experienced the majority of them. The service is by far superior, prompt, and we feel like family when we go here. The food is delicious and the view is awesome and the t.v.s are always on the games we want to watch and if not they change the channel for us. We love, love, love this place! Once we forgot our wallet! So embarassing but the manager said no worries, pay next time you come in which we did. Everytime we order something new it has been delicious. If you want an affordable restaurant with the best view, service above reproach, consistence on all of the aforementioned and where you are treated like family then you have to try this place. You will be treated great and every dish is delicious and filling. Totally awesome service and did I mention we love it!!! Great drinks and bar too. I want to work here! This place is great!
