Feeling a bit mixed based on my first experience but genuinely think this is an amazing addition to dt martinez !!! I also think it is hard to get 5 stars on your first official night being open- which is when we went! They opened on new years night and a group of about 7 of us came in. It was jam packed!!! First of all- there was a very scary bouncer at the front door. He immediately asked us "have you been drinking?! Where did you come from?!". Uhm WTF?! We were all sober!!! Not that it was any of his business!!! Its not like we were stumbling. So rude. The owner Corey then greeted us once we got in and explained drunk people had been coming from the dive bars down the street (whiskey lane and nu rays) and causing a scene. I get it- but i did feel uncomfortable. Since when do wine bars need bouncers?!? Lol. My experience did not get off on a good foot. He damn near scared us away. It is a small place- you could barely move in there. There is not a lot of seating and we all had to stand the entire time. It was also hot as hellll and Corey explained that something happened with the AC so it should be fixed. No big deal. Onto the wine (thank god!). Not a hugeee wine list but definitely great options for what they do have! Glasses run 9-15ishhh. Not bad! I had a nice white, and then 2 glasses of the still rosé. 3 glasses of yummy wine for $30- i really enjoyed both. I was not able to order food but what i saw coming out looked yummy! My friend did not have a drink so Corey poured her a little glass of vintage Dom- that was sweet. Although- he was a bit flirty with her Lol! I cant wait to come back when they have ironed out some kinks and are less crowded. I am really happy to have a wine bar walking distance from me house!!! Woop woop! read more

Awesome bar with great bartenders, spectacular drinks and a great owner. Corey the owner is a good dude with a great sense of humor and likes to banter with the clientele. They have great bands on the weekends and the place is hoppin'. The artisan pizzas there are incredible. I would argue they're some of the best pizzas in the Bay area. Highly recommended!! It can get a little loud out on main Street during the weekends as a lot of the restaurants have bands playing out in the street but it's a fun time since the whole street is blocked off for foot traffic only. It's a small space that they have tried to utilize well. All bar type seating except for one table. The ambiance is nice thanks to the brick walls but the staff dresses casually. The Cava did not disappoint and was excellent! Brought me back to the ones I've had in Spain. They have good small bite and food options. I felt very discriminated only the fact that everyone else she was serving she was very attentive and nice (the people she was serving were caucasian) and im a person of color mind you I had to wait 20 minutes to even get her attention and so did my friend who was a person of color, she was very rude on the total of my one drink. Only one employee was genuinely helpful. was standing outside watching a live performance and no one was offered a seat to watch when they had plenty of stools inside as a bar owner would you not want your customer to be comfortable and to enjoy their time?? Great wine bar for a date, girls night, or to just treat yourself! The interior is really cute and I love the exposed brick. The inside is definitely better suited for smaller groups, although there is one large table near the front, and the patio could potentially accommodate larger parties. The wine prices and pours are pretty reasonably priced compared to similar spots and the owner is friendly and conversational. Don't hesitate to ask him for a recommendation; you won't regret it. However, I'm not sure if I was here on an off night for food, but my cheeseburger was still cold on the inside, and sounded much better on the menu than in actuality. The pre-prepared stuff we had was good (olives, meats, etc) but if you are hungry, I would go to one of the many tasty restaurants Martinez has to offer and then come here for drinks. That being said, this is still an awesome spot and I'm excited to to try out one of their many events or theme nights. read more

Bar Cava is fun and is a great addition to down town Martinez. There is a wide variety of small plates for the light eater and larger plates if your looking for a satisfying meal. All the food pairs well with the wide selection of champagne and wine. The servers are very friendly and attentive to everyone. It's an upscale experience but the owner and servers make you feel welcomed in a homely environment. The combination of quantity and festive atmosphere is more than just a fancy wine bar experience. Went in today (Good Friday, I should have known better I know) and red head bartender was sniffling and sounded hoarse, complained to a couple guests she was sick. Incredible that the boss doesn't pay her enough to take a sick day. Pitiful. Maybe if boss Cory was helping out ON A BUSY FRIDAY instead of "hanging out" with the local police (seems like they know each other VERY well) I would have had a better experience. Great job SNOREY this place SUCKS. Poor bartender sounded like she was struggling and very sick. I guess I just have more compassion than some so-called "owners." Came here on a recommendation. My son works in this City and hadn't tried this place either. Great place! Corey was very friendly and hospitable, atmosphere was awesome, great vibe. They don't serve food on Tuesday's or Sunday's but you can order either pizza or Mediterranean from the neighboring restaurants. We chose Mediterranean and it was delicious! Corey took our orders and served us so we didn't have to leave, just to get food. Make sure you try the Chambong, you won't be disappointed! He has an impressive selection of wine to choose from as well. We will definitely be back!! They don't open until 4:00 PM but downtown Martinez has a lot of cute places to shop and check out plus a couple of cool breweries to keep you occupied until they open. Stopped by at happy hour for dinner and drinks with a party of three; the setup would have made things difficult for a group that's any larger. I'll give 3.5 stars here - we had great service and a friendly bartender, with no complaints on that end. But Bar Cava is lacking in its food (some hit and miss in taste/quality and large portion size differentials in options at around the same price) and happy hour options (their happy hour beer, at $5, is the same price on the regular menu). The happy hour options on wine and cava were good, though, and I saw some other food options (flatbread and cheese plate) I'd like to try. If they offered a happy hour food option and a more developed menu, I'd be more excited, but plan on returning nonetheless, as the concept is a nice addition to downtown Martinez! read more

He asked one of the bartenders a question (I later learned the bartender was actually the owner "Corey"). You bypass all the pretentiousness of Walnut Creek with easy parking and friendly staff. My favorite bartender is Jewel, she asked me a few questions about wine preferences and always picks out nice Bar Cava selections and consistently matches my preferences with new additions to the menu.
