Pancakes - better choice than French Toast

This place is perfectly located in heart of Hamilton, NY, just down street from Colgate University. Service was good, as was food too. As far as diners go, it's a bit upscale with mimosa menu and other cocktails. Only complaint would be no refills on unsweetened iced tea...,c'mon, its one tea bag & a quart of hot water!

Decided to take a little drive on this sunny fall day and ended up in Hamilton. Some great breakfast spot options but today we checked out this place. OMG so glad we did! The decor was bright and welcoming and the staff was smiling, friendly and overall delightful! I decided to have a little drinkie drink this morning and opted for the bubblies. This mini bottle of Prosecco and glass of orange juice lasted me the entire meal. I highly recommend trying it I really enjoyed mixing it up myself. Next was the Crusted French Toast. It was crispy, not too sweet and moist in the center. I didn't even need syrup!!! My fiancé and I always split meals so half of the French toast was enough for me! Onto The Cali. It came on a sizzling plate, the potatoes were crispy and the eggs cooked to perfection. Everything we had was amazing and I recommend checking this place out if you're in the area or just looking for somewhere to take a nice little drive.

This Diner has an overall aesthetic appeal with clean appliances. However, this ever-so-cute scene is not what comes to the eye. The food was quite dry and the service was poor. It took our unfriendly waitress 25+ minutes to get us syrup after we asked multiple times, and we still have not gotten it. As someone who visits diners and small food businesses often, this was not a hot spot. We plan to leave a 15% tip, and never come back again!

Upon entering The Tavern Inn, Shannon immediately offered a nice hot cup of coffee (which I soo needed). My husband and I came back for lunch and we were greeted by my morning g friend, Shannon, and Glenda at the bar, and we had the burger and fries which was so Juicy, tasty and awesome! We went back to the restaurant for dinner, and I personally requested Shannon as our waitress/server. Her smile is infectious and she helped me reclaim my favorite umbrella that I left behind earlier! For dinner, we ordered the Bavarian pretzel sticks as an appetizer (so yummy), and I had the cod special which was delicious and my husband had the mushroom cavatappi. Great recommendations for dinner....! This place is a gem! The staff is amazing, the food is awesome and reasonably priced, great ambiance, and the service matches the best of any 5 star restaurant. Will be back again when visiting family for sure. Highly recommended!! Marie C. Stratford, CT

The hostess told us that all five empty tables were reserved for a large group, then put us at a two-seater next to the kitchen door. We expected the tables to fill up at 7:00 but only one did. By 7:40, when we were paying the check, three of the tables were occupied. Obviously there was never a large group reservation, or even individual reservations. Asked to speak with the restaurant manager, and explained the situation. She admitted right away that the hostess probably did it for server convenience and not reservations. And she DID NOT CARE. She said I should have told her right away, and then she could have put us at a window table. Ummm...why would I initially think the hostess was lying to us about the tables being reserved? It wasn't until 7:30 rolled around that we knew for sure. This is not the way a seating request, or a customer complaint, should be handled. (8/20/2026)

A typical day of Frank food consists of mushy veggies, lots of chicken, rice of some sort, and some strange cold pasta salad. If you're looking for a nice date spot, this is the place. The atmosphere is warm and inclusive. There are lots of benches making the space feel super cozy. If you're lucky, on occasion, Frank puts on special dinners. Some highlights include Root Fest (all vegan dinner), Franksgiving, and Sunday brunch. I highly recommend trying the vegetable spring rolls. The burgers are always a solid option, Mac n cheese always slaps. Personally, my favorite stations are the yogurt and fruit bar, the coffee station (sometimes hit or miss), and obviously the ice cream station (personal fav is the soft-serve). This wouldn't be an in-depth review if I didn't highlight some of the pitfalls. Lines tend to be long during lunch and dinner hours. If you're looking for a quick in and out on the type lunch, you probably don't wanna go to Frank. There are limited to-go options besides breakfast items. However, this isn't to say that I don't spend hours in frank with my friends, typically eating about three dinners each. Seriously don't knock it until you try it, make a trip down to Frank dining hall and enjoy a lovely dinner, lunch, or quick breakfast with a friend. You will never go hungry at Frank, whether you enjoy your food ehhhh, and always remember if you are ever constipated, Frank can help with that. When asked "What is your favorite thing about Frank?" We ordered - house salad - solid salad with house dressing. nice, nothing crazy - onion soup, this was excellent. really well done, from the croutons, cheese and flavor. wow - calamari - the only thing we didnt love - chicken schnitzle - excellent, authentic - scallops - fresh, perfectly cooked. a bit too sauced, but great - creamy garlic and spinach pasta - our kids didnt love, but decent The desserts were great as well. The restaurant was very accommodating to our casual attire and 3 young kids. Amazingly kind. The entire experience is a bit like going back in time, the historic nature of the setting is hard to explain, but you really feel it.

New changes are... weird…read more We've come here so many times over the years and almost always had a great experience. Sometimes the place is busy and the service is slow because of it, but the food is always good, and I get that it's a learning environment for students, so: be patient, folks. But now the management has changed the whole experience. They've cut back the serving staff to only TWO people, closed the downstairs room altogether, and taken out tables so that there are only 2 booths and 2 four-tops, plus the bar. Their FB page now says "reservations only" but they don't even have an online system so you can see what dates are free. You have to call to talk to one of those belabored *two* people who are covering the entire room. I'm guessing they're also the ones answering the phones for take-out, too. How is this "enhancing [my] dining experience" exactly? To be fair, the food is still good and the two ladies working the night we were there are great and gave us great service. But the room feels spookily empty with so few tables. Plus the idea of being guilted into calling for mandatory reservations? Who does that?! Disappointing management decision that does a disservice to all the hardworking people who work here, and to their loyal customers too. Not sure when we'll be back again, now.
