I was a little nervous about staying here at first, because it was such a cheap price for a night in Manhattan. The reviews didn't look to great, but honestly my expectations weren't that high, I just needed a place to stay for the night. Turns out, this place was way better than I thought! I didn't show up until 1:30 a.m. but they were still very friendly getting me checked in. I booked a room with one bunk bed for a great deal (My roommate never showed up so I lucked out and got my own private room ;) There's no frills whatsoever, it's a very basic room but I feel like this should be expected. I usually get suspicious about the cleanliness of hostel beds, but I felt like mine was pretty clean. I had a sink in my room, which made it easy to brush my teeth and get ready in my own room rather than the shared bathroom. The bathrooms are a little small, and I didn't like the fact that there was a half-open window right where the shower was. They have a nice lounge with a bar, TV, computer area, etc., along with friendly staff. It's also walking distance from Central Park!! I would definitely stay here again the next time I find myself in the Big Apple. read more

All I can say is RUN! Run far far away. I'm serious. My views on this hostel may be a bit biased as it was my first time staying in a hostel. All I know is I did not get any sleep while there. I ended up staying on the 3rd floor right by the main door where everyone else staying on that floor enters to their hostel rooms. The hinges on the door must have been extremely old or broken so each and every single time someone entered or left the floor, all I would hear is SLAM! SLAM after SLAM after SLAM. All throughout the night. We called the lobby the next morning and asked them if we could change to another room or floor. They said they were totally booked and would send maintenance to fix it by the end of the day. At the end of the day, no changes. It also didn't help that the man staying in the room next to us smoked weed day and night. So that was the first smell I inhaled before I even put the key into my door to open it and see my room. Great first impression, I thought. The room is dimly lit (and I mean DIM to the max) to the point where it was hard to see anything when walking around such a small cramped room. The elevators do not light up so initially I thought it was broken but was later told that it in fact does. The hotel is run by a staff of young college students, so don't expect them to be super professional or anything. And did I mention all I smelled was weed every time I entered my room? Yes, it was a nightmare come to life. I have to say there were two things I liked about staying here. The lobby is clean and spacious with a small kitchen where you can heat food and watch some TV or use their free WIFI. The second was the price. At $30/night it was a great way to travel on a budget. But still, I am so grateful that I got to switch to the Hilton Times Square for my last night in NYC. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I wish I took photos of everything. The pillow cases and bed sheets were covered with visible stains. The blankets were COVERED WITH HAIR. It was so gross. Even worse, the beds were slanted! The guest service from the front desk and the manager is so bad that they make you feel like everything . you disliked was your problem. I will learn from my mistake and never stay at a hotel with more than 10% bad reviews. DO NOT STAY HERE. I've backpacked all over Europe, Asia , and Southeast Asia and stayed in many hostels. This place is ok. Location is good for subway. 20 something couple stayed in private queen bed with shared bath. Bathrooms are filthy. The same piece of hair was in the drain all week.(I'm talking a giant glob of black hair). They ran out of Toilet paper on one for 2 days. As for the rooms they are small and plain which is fine. They have a sink and tv. They did not look like the picture online. The mattress had a giant dent in the center and needed to be replaced 5 years ago. After walking all over the city I wake up sore. The walls/doors are very thin. Even with earplugs in I hear everyone slamming their doors around 7am. Constant door slams. You can see on the frames where they tried to pad it but that has worn off and provides no muffles. Only good thing is the price but in hindsight I would have rather paid $50 more a night for an actual hotel. Wife's review: For what we paid (over $1000 for week...they don't provide wash rags which to me was a big deal...and not a lot to ask for. The reality is that hotels in NYC are ridiculously expensive so it's a miracle my husband and I found a place for under $150/night! This also turned out to be a perfect location-a 10 min. walk to my friend's apt, Central Park, museums, restaurants, and convenient access to the subway (1). We could easily get anywhere and be able to come back to put our feet up for a bit. We had a large queen room with a sink and shared bathroom. During our 3 night stay, we only had to wait once to get into the bathroom and it was no more than 5 mins. Honestly, the paint job and the furniture were in rough shape but I appreciated that the room had window a/c and a ceiling fan. The bed was actually quite comfortable, too. There were only two things that truly bothered me: the strong smell of Fabuloso used by the cleaners and the Glade plug in which I immediately unplugged when we got into the room. The effort was sincere but it's an old, musty building. It's hard to cover that. Outside of the room itself, the staff we dealt with were very friendly and helpful. Check-in/check-out went smoothly and quickly. It was great to see a diverse group of guests including families and seniors. On top of it, we always felt safe. We had a few late nights and we were always greeted warmly as we came through the door. When choosing a place to stay on a budget, there is always a compromise to make. We chose to stay at a "no frills" place which allowed us to have more funds for our other adventures. We would have no qualms about staying here again. read more

I have stayed in a lot of hostels around the world and, in a lot of ways, Broadway Hotel and Hostel is on par with my expectations. The building is old, rooms are a bit small, the bathrooms are shared, and it can get a bit noisy. All this is expected when you are paying $55 per night in Manhattan. However, what I was not expecting were 1) the smells and 2) detail in which you could hear your neighbors. The smells: The entire first floor reeked of natural gas and my room smelled super strongly of moth balls. The noise: The walls here are so thin you can even hear your neighbor zipping up his coat. Needless to say, I had to listen to a lot of adult activities in incredible detail throughout my night. So even though everything was very clean, the location is good, and the price was right, I really cannot recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

I stayed in a private twin with an ensuite bathroom. The room was neat, tidy and clean. However, it was stuffy. There didn't seem to much air circulating. The beds were like those in a college dorm and the linens were hospital grade. If you have back problems, this is not for you. The morning after sleeping here I felt like I'd been camping. The smell at this place is overwhelming. A chemical stink like you get in some taxis is just everywhere. I had a raging sinus headache after a few hours in the common area. They've got two bunks to a room and I went to sleep thinking 'great, I've got the room to myself.' Then at 4 AM some guys comes in drops his gear, leaves without locking the door. I. LOVE. THIS. PLACE. OK, I need to preface this review by saying that if you are on a VERY tight budget and looking for a HOSTEL (not a hotel) in NYC, then this place is absolutely as good as it gets. No, it is not fancy. No, it is not as comfy as a true hotel. Yes, you have to share bathrooms. Yes, you sleep in bunk beds in a bare room with nothing else but a sink and a couple lockers. But seriously, what more do you need? If you're going to be staying in your room for so much time that this matters to you, then find someplace else. But if you are in NYC to go explore and have fun, then this is just fine (and keep in mind, I'm a very spoiled and picky girl when it comes to where I sleep/bathe). This place is way up on the Upper West Side, and right on Broadway. It's a nice, clean, safe area, and you're only a couple blocks from the subway. Plus, because it's on such a major street, it's super easy to catch a cab if you don't want to take the subway. The rooms themselves are bare-bones. The one set of bunks aren't the most comfortable beds in the world and they make screeching noises which sucks for those of us who toss and turn a lot, however the rooms are *spacious* and you have room to spread out, which is more than I can say for lots of other hostels. You could easily fit at least one other bunk bed in here, but for some reason they limit it to just two people per room -- fine by me! There are indeed shared bathrooms, but this is unlike any other shared bathroom experience I've had at a hostel. Because there aren't many rooms per floor, and only two people in each room, the four bathrooms on each floor are just fine. Each bathroom is single-occupancy, and many of them are as comfortable as a bathroom you'd have in your home. Some have very nice modern tiles and showers. Actually, one of the nicest showers I've ever been in was at this hostel. Weird, right? Also, I've stayed at Broadway Hotel/Hostel at least half a dozen times when it's been completely booked, and only had to wait once or twice for a bathroom to free up -- and even then it was only like a 2 minute wait. The elevator is slow and very small, which is kind of awkward, especially if you are checking in/out and have luggage, but it's not a big deal. And the doormen are SO friendly about helping with luggage and just saying a warm greeting when you go through the lobby each day. There is also a lounge for people to mingle if they care to, and a bank of reliable computers so you can get online easily. This isn't the kind of hostel you go to if you're a backpacker type that wants to meet people from all over the world and have crazy adventures, though. This is the kind of hostel you go to if you like your privacy and want some place quiet, clean, and SAFE to lay your head at night. I've stayed at hostels where I genuinely feared for my safety -- this is not one of them. Seriously, if you're to spend more money on your entertainment than on your room, make your schedule out as far in advance as you can and book this place, because it's starting to get more and more popular and harder to book. read more

Have stayed in my fair share of hostels but this one is by far one of my favorites. I mean, whats not to like about getting your own personal room and having to share singlet bathrooms. Not to mention there are about 3-4 single bathrooms on each floor and I never waited to use one. The bathroom to room ratio is on point. Not to mention that the location of this Hotel/Hostel is phenomenal. The area is super quaint with plenty to do in walking distance and there are two subways; one a block away and the other about 3 blocks away. The rooms were clean, room service everyday and you only have to pay to check your bags after you have checked out... if you show up early before you can check in - they don't charge the fee. I was looking for a cheap place to stay for my first time in New York and came upon The Broadway Hotel n Hostel. One of the best decisions ever! I had never stayed at a hostel before so I was worried that I would have a bad experience there. Basically, the hostel is exactly what you see on the website and in the pictures! Everyone is really friendly and the staff is great! The staff is young and down to earth and they really take initiative into getting to know the guests. If you have any questions too about the city they are more than welcome to help. I stayed in a dormitory type room, which was the cheapest (about $30 a night?). It had a bunk bed, a little sink, as a regular sized locker to fit something as big as a back pack in it (bring your own lock though). They do have a storage area where you can leave large personal belonging, but I do believe there is a small price for it. Also, for more important things such as passports and such, you can leave it with the front desk and they have a safe for those things. My roommate was wonderful she was from England and we had no troubles at all. The hostel cleans the room every day and they replace all your sheets and towels too. The only thing with the room was that it was a little cold at night but nothing too bad. There are four bathrooms on the floor I was on and they were really clean and were also cleaned everyday. The common areas downstairs were a great way to meet people. They showed movies all day and had areas to sit and eat or just hang out. They had a mini kitchen area where you can put your food and microwave food as well. They do have wi-fi, but it's only available downstairs in the common areas, which was actually okay with me cause i was barely in my room, but some people were not happy about that. They do have computers and printers though as well. I didn't use them so I'm not sure how it works with having to pay for them or not but they are available for the guests. Also, they have snacks for sell in the lobby too. The hostel is a subway ride away from all the great places to see. The subway is only a few blocks away and i did come to new york alone so I felt the neighborhood was really safe for walking at night. There are restaurants and small shops and coffee shops within walking distance. My overall experience here was great! I recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap place to stay in New York. I mean I suppose I have nothing to compare this place to since it was my first hostel, but it was a good first experience for me. read more

Purely from a sanitary standpoint I don't know how this place hasn't been shut down yet. The rooms have roaches and I'm not the only one that's seen them. There have been instances of rats in the basement and if you go down there you will see the traps. The "hotel" side of it also doesn't make sense as you can get a similarly priced room in Manhattan where you're not gonna find a roach in your pillow sheets. Did I ever mention the assistant manager is transphobic and made a transgender girl feel bad for not letting her have a female dormitory to herself and instead booked her for a dorm? read more

3.5 stars. This is an ok place to stay in NYC, provided you are on a budget and do not mind slightly crowded conditions. The rooms themselves are spare to say the least. Bunks, a sink in the corner and not much else, including personality. The beds and sheets were clean though, and they provided new sheets and towels every day. The bathrooms, of which there seemed to be about 4 of on each floor, were not bad for a hostel. Not all of them were new, but they ones that were new had nice tile and shower heads. Each bathroom is a toilet/sink/shower in one small room, so it is private, but also always in high demand early in the morning. The common areas were not very roomy, but did provide free wifi and movies, on no less than three flat screen TVs, which is a lot for such a small space. The kitchen is really just a sink, fridge and a microwave in the corner. This is more of a place to gather yourself together before going out than a place to hang out and meet people. I was here in the end of May, and it was already pretty bustling, with lots of young europeans and some domestic travellers (you must have either a foreign passport or an out of state ID to stay here, no NY residents). The staff was friendly, despite being a little overwhelmed at all times. The neighborhood here (the upper west side) is not exciting, but is by no means a sketchy 'hood, either. It is near Columbia University, so there are cheap places to eat and drink nearby, but this is hardy a destination neighborhood. Still, it is close to the metro, so getting anywhere else is easy. All in all, this is a good place to fall down at the end of the day and sleep, but not a great place to relax and meet fellow travelers. read more

I was at the Broadway Hotel and Hostel from May 16th until tonight Memorial Day and I had to flee at 1 in the morning . Two bad experiences in little over a week was too much to handle . I stayed in a room with a bunk bed for two people . The first few nights I stayed there I had nobody in the room with me . My first roomie showed up drunk or high at around 2am one night and appeared to be semi homeless or recently released from a half way house due to the band she had on her wrist . I chatted with her to be nice when she arrived even though it was so late . I was on the top bunk and when I was going back to my bunk she grabbed me by the genitals twice . I proceeded to climb up the ladder and felt really uncomfortable. Since it was a woman and I didn't feel physically threatened I decided to blow it off since I didn't want to create a scene at 2am and just wanted to sleep . I called the next day to flag the situation to the hotel manager but they refused to forward me to her. What happened tonight was the icing on the cake . I arrived back at my room to find a new roommate completely naked and passed out on my bunk on top of my clothes with condoms on the bed . I went to inform the security guard downstairs and all he could say was that he would give me a new room . He told me to go gather my things and take it to the other room since he wasn't allowed to come see the situation and said maybe I wasn't telling the truth anyways . I went upstairs and woke up the naked drunk/high naked man . It took over a minute to wake him up . I had to reach around his naked body to grab my clothes since he wasn't moving. Finally as I kept pushing him he got up and was slurring for a while . He finally came to after a few minutes and grabbed his condoms and wrapped a towel around himself . The security guard was waiting outside and told me to go to the other room once I got all my stuff . I brought my stuff to the other room but after a few minutes I was so upset that I just decided to gather my belongings and leave at 1 am go to another's place to stay. I hope I didn't forget anything and have to go back there now that it's 1:55am. The location of the hotel is good but obviously they just put any drunk or addict off the street to share a room with you. It is definitely not a safe place to be sharing a room with a random person . I cannot emphasize enough -- DO NOT STAY HERE. I stayed 3 nights here and was pretty happy with it. For the price - it's definitely worth it! PROS: - Although not in a prime location, it's super close to the metro that gets you right into the heart of Manhattan in less than 15 minutes. It's also a few blocks from Central Park! - Super clean - My dorm-style room only had 2 beds, which made sharing completely doable CONS: - World's SLOWEST elevator - Sketchy showers (water pressure was comparable to those sprinklers we all used to run through as kids and I believe someone else must have been controlling my hot and cold water - just for fun ;) - WiFi is only available in the lobby read more

I enjoyed my stay here. Of course, my 'stay' was just long enough to sleep and charge my phone. The rest of the time, I was out enjoying the city (as you should be). The room was clean and the housekeeping was done daily. The shared bathrooms were clean as well (and plenty of hot water even when I went in after someone else!). Broadway Hostel also has a storage you can pay for to keep your bags locked away while you're out of the hostel. They allowed me to store my bags away even after I checked out before 11 (but my flight was not until 4pm). Excellent customer service at the front desk as well. Very satisfied, I plan to return. I stayed here with my sister a few years back and I mist say it left the greatest impression of a true New Yorker experience. Everyone there knew the hip spots if you're looking for a more native- less touristy place to go. In five days we explored more of New York than probably most..trust me, I got to visit every iconic spots that Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan made an imprint on my hopeful romantic heart But aside from the convenience of the subway and the fact that it sits on Broadway..you get the most beautiful view of it. Columbia University was down the street- I mean we went everywhere and saw so much..the WiFi and reception was a plus, but I was not trying to be glued to my computer on a vacation. The building itself was simply classy in its form of eclecticism- I could only imagine the buildings first day of business- something so busy and the concierge a little sherlock Well back to the future for my review.. the place is such a recommend that I plan to stay there every time I go to town. Clean bathrooms, clean rooms, and super dope elevator (which I rode just for fun too many times one should be expected) great view, great desk clerks, everyone that works there is awesome (especially if you worked there from 10/28-11/03 of 2015) I give the Broadway all the stars in the sky for being the best HOSTel!!! I've stayed here twice. Once last month, an once two summers ago. Great value, and great accommodations. Your in New York so it's not like you'll be laying around all day reading a book, so what more do you need in a hotel room than a bed and a bath? The only reason I deducted a star is because of the housekeeping. Don't get me wrong- the housekeeping staff was great. I didn't expect it so when I left the room my clothes were strewn in the floor (there's not a dresser to unpack a weeks worth of clothes into) and there were several maps and brochures on the side of the bed in the floor. I came back and everything including my tickets and clothes had been moved. I'm sure other people would welcome the cleaning but the panic of "where's my broadway tickets? Were these clothes in my 'clean' or 'dirty' pile?" Was a bit disconcerting. After that, each day I tried to leave the room neater and still came back to things rearranged and moved. read more

I really liked, 4 blocks away from the m60 bus if your landing or taking off from LGA, 3 blocks from the 1 train will take you to times square and all the way down to battery park. Over all service was really good, front desk staff friendly and they know there stuff or they have Google ready to go. Small rooms but hey! I only had one roommate, hostels usually have 4 or more beds so that's not bad at all plus I only paid $30 a night, can't go wrong with that plus I was only there to sleep, the rooms were clean as well as the restrooms, the housekeeping staff did a good job with the restrooms as well as the rooms. I see that we got what we paid for and it was adequate. I stayed for 2 days with my sister and we were at a music festival so we really just needed a place to sleep. In that regard, it did the job. I did have some issues. The beds were utterly hard. I shifted positions often, and the only thing that helped me get a good night's rest was the fact that I had been up about 9 or 10 hours each day. I would have slept anywhere by that point. The bathroom did not have paper towels or hand soap, and it was a shared bathroom. Just the thought of touching the door knob really grossed me out. I sprayed with hand sanitizer but still felt gross. The towels they provide were dingy. The flat and fitted sheets were also dingy looking. The A/C, thank God, was serviceable but loud. But hey, it's summer, so I guess we should be happy it worked. We were in a room that faced a brick wall, so it was hard to tell what time it was. We also were right across from the bathroom. Due to the tight hallway, we heard footsteps, conversations, people going in and out of the bathroom. Heard it all. Oh, and there's no water fountain so you have to drink tap water or $3 bottled water. Lastly, we slept in a room with a bunk bed that was really only wide enough to stand up straight. The bed itself made me feel tall, and I'm about 5'7. The downstairs lounge looks very nice, but upon closer inspection, the furniture is old and stained. The best thing I could report about down there is the free popcorn. One thing I will say is the room was clean and did the trick for a space in which we were not in long. I have stayed at a really nice hostel (Moore I believe) in Brooklyn before, and this was not up to par with that. This was the definition of roughing it. read more

The room was nowhere closer to the pictures shown. 2.Hallway smelled of cigarettes 3.Shared Bathrooms were not clean specially the bath tub. 4.The bed was so old and creaking even if we sit on it. 5. No option for temperature control in the room and no proper ventilation. Our room was too stuffy and the only way to get rid of that was to open a tiny window in the corner of the room facing the bed with no blinds. It was our first time to NY and we had booked a queen room with shared bath in this hotel months ahead of our trip at the rate of $175 per night. We got misled by the pictures posted in their website and the booking websites. But when we actually checked in, it was not worth for the money.We got out of this place within an hour of checking in. I always tell my students: you get what you get and you don't throw a fit. With that being said this place was too bad. It was a great deal as we had booked two weeks before coming (due to people dropping out ). However, check-in was a breeze and front desk were friendly. I knew coming into this that there was going to be shared bathrooms (more on that later). So, we get to our room and we were like okay... we can work with this. We haven't had any issues so far (this is our second day). On the floor there are about three bathrooms. I haven't had to wait for it, yet. Also, the elevators are a hit or miss... it's very tiny. It's able to fit for bodies without luggage. Only two with luggage big or small. I'm a firm believer that hotels are just places to put your head at night. This reason I'm not to particular to things that's other might be. Last note: the windows are paper thin but I'm a heavy sleeper. One last thing... I promise... but there's no paper towels to be found. This has been the only frustrating thing. Update: This is my review after being there my full time. They have an unlimited metro card for $32 (utilize this...we spent too much of our own money). You'll only have one key for the room (you give a $5 deposit) and don't lose it, because you won't get your deposit back. I also never wanted for a bathroom which was good! I wish I could rate 0 stars. I reserved this hotel months in advance and had all of the correct information in there. A few days before the trip, they sent me an email saying that the card I had on file was invalid. That was complete BS considering it was the same card I'd been using for years and had on Booking.com. That meant that whoever tried to run it messed up on putting in the information. I get back to them and say that it was the correct card and to try again. They did, and I got a call from my bank's fraud department for suspicious activity, since the geniuses at Broadway Hotel tried charging each night separately for some reason. I said that I authorized the charges, and they opened it back up. This took 3 minutes. Booking policy is you have 24 hours to update an "invalid" card. Mine was never invalid and I made sure fraud prevention services let it go through. Fast forward to when I arrived: I show up after check-in time, and they first tell me that the room isn't ready. I was in no rush, so I said "no problem". They go to check me in and the last at the front desk says "it says here that your booking was cancelled because the card was invalid." Confused as hell, I say "no, my card is just fine, I even have it right here." I also explained the thing with fraud prevention and told them that the Booking was still good on Booking's app. They said "Booking has nothing to do with this", even though I booked through Booking.com. I said "okay, well since you just cancelled the booking, let's make a new one." Then they said "all of the rooms are sold out." That right there told me that they overbooked the hotel and tried making pathetic excuses to cancel my stay. I said to them "there's nothing else available in NYC in my price range and I did everything right on my end, am I supposed to just sleep on the streets for 5 nights?" The lady at the desk just repeated "nothing we can do." She was also a bitch the entire time and there was never any sorrow or sympathy, even though the hotel had done something terrible to me. Lucky for me (and for them), I contacted a property I stayed at in the past and they had 1 room available for me to stay in at the price I would've paid at Broadway Hotel. To sum this all up: the assholes at Broadway Hotel are terrible and dishonest people who can care less about their guests. DO NOT STAY HERE! Spend a little extra and stay at a pod hotel, like the Chelsea Pods. Don't risk being homeless while you're in NYC. In a nutshell, The Broadway was a solid hostel to stay in nyc. I would recommend for anyone visiting the city My boyfriend and I booked a private room with a shared bathroom for 3 nights. the location is a little far uptown from the main attractions in manhattan, but it is just a block over from the subway so that was very convenient. The staff was very friendly, polite, and helpful. 5 stars to them. the housekeeping did a good job with keeping things clean. Clean linens, clean bathroom. the only cons I would have to say would be how the tv provided in the rooms got shotty cable just very bad quality (not that you would be around watching tv much) and also at how thin the walls were. you could pretty much hear everything going on in the halls and the rooms around you. oh and the elevator is just what. all sorts jacked up. but all in all, I would highly recommend! read more

This hotel is great if your on a budget, want to be close to Central Park and local food. I would recommend not staying for a long period maybe one or two nights. The room my boyfriend and I got was small and clean. The blanket we got were itchy and had holes in them, pillows without cases and the AC that came with the room was beyond loud that we couldn't use it. Here for a week, and the stay is nothing but great. It's a lot I've observed so I'll try and make the review easy by doing a simple pro/con breakdown. Pro: -Staff is friendly/down-to-earth -Clean environment (I checked for bedbugs thoroughly)-sheets are changed daily, and towels are provided. -Yes, blankets are available. -Heat WORKS! Don't doubt that! I had my window open... -FREE WIFI! Though it only works downstairs on the main level, which I think is meant to bring people together. -Fridge/Freezer/Kitchen available to store your items -24 hr convenient store next door and plenty of food places open til 5am in walking range. -1 train only 2 blocks away, a 18min ride to Manhattan. -Bathrooms are big, clean, and water pressure is intense enough to wake your a** up. -Breakfast available, for about $1 per item. -Lockers (bring your own big lock) that are full-size -Sink/Mirror in room -Cheap $160/week -Computers/Printer/Telephones available to use for $1 per 7minutes. -Unlike most hostels, only 2 people per room. Beats sleeping with 15 others like NY loft hostel. Con: -Elevator is extremely slow and small, and you can only press one level at a time or it will go to what you last selected. -Beds are uncomfortable since you can feel the springs, BUT not to the point where you can't fall asleep. -Pillows suck and are travel size/flat. I went to Kmart at Penn Station and brought a Joe Boxer pillow for $4+ -No mirror in bathroom, but I guess that's to keep people from staying in to long -Taxes not included until arrival, which can be quite suprising-14.75% and $3.50 bed rate/per day read more

I am going to let you guys know now, all of the five star reviews you see are written by people that run the hotel. There is no way on earth, on mars or on Pluto that someone would give this hotel more than 0 stars. I checked in, and left. At check in, there was a couple clearly in distress talking to the lady at the desk and the lady was being so rude. They ended up leaving, and that should have been a red flag right there. Was not told when I was booking that I would have to share a bathroom. With that being said, the person in the bathroom (for the five minutes I was there) was puking and singing and overall- it was American horror story. I was asked why I did not like my room, which frankly is none of the clerks business. I was not pleased- and they clearly knew why. I explained why, and the lady at the front desk told me I can leave and leave my 90$ I paid. ---Excuse me? Horrible customer service. Extremely rude. I can not believe that this was my experience here. I'm hoping travelocity can issue me a refund. I hope the owner of this hotel will talk to the lady at the desk. No one should be talked to the way I was, especially if your job is in customer service. I ended up finding a lovely hotel right down the road. Be wary of this place. read more

Cons: Imagine all the good things I should be able to tell about this place if it really was good - such as nice rooms, bathroons, hygiene of the place, lack of bugs in the WC and other things. I've stayed in both the hostel and hotel parts of Broadway Hotel & Hostel. My experiences were great both times. My parents have also stayed in the hotel part, no problems. The building is clean and in close proximity to the 1 train. The area is pretty safe, even at night. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were happy to answer any questions or help in any way possible. I usually check here first when people ask me for hotel or hostel recommendations in the city. While this isn't a fancy, luxury hotel, it's a great value for people seeking a safe, clean spot to crash. read more

This place could be really nice. It looks like they have been trying really hard to clean this place up, but my experience overall here has been pretty terrible. Pros: The lobby looks brand new and fully restored. The downstairs facility is very clean and looks really nice. The rooms are clean and the showers are really nice. This seems to be rare for hostels. Cons: When I first entered the building there was a HUGE sign that says VACATE and there was someone at the door, opening it so you couldn't read it. Naturally, everyone asks what the sign is about and they give you some BS answer like they can't have 4 people in a room anymore and they have to leave the sign up until the inspectors come approve it. After further research I found out that many of the rooms have BED BUGS and they had to fix the problem until they are able to take the signs down. While I was here the elevator broke and I was on the 7th floor!! After many days of walking around NYC, I have to come back and walk up 7 flights up stairs... HOLY CRAP. That sucked! The lobby is constantly playing super loud music, while others are watching TV (can't even hear the TV over the music) and also it seems like the lounge area seems to attract European tourists that love to drink beer and talk really loud. The cleaning staff cleans your room (its a hostel, so this sounds like a perk), but there is noway to keep them from cleaning it. There really isn't anything to clean, but they just walk in and do it. There is no DO NOT DISTURB sign, so you are always scared they are going to steal your stuff. Overall the experience was CLEAN, which is the most important thing a lot of people, but I found that this place was full of liars. If they were just honest about everything, I'd prob give them 4 stars. read more

It's a tourist class hotel/hostel Let me help set your expectations straight. It's an older building. The doors have been painted over several times. The rooms a clean but spare. We had a corner room with two double beds and a "private" bath. It had AC but we had to crank it up during the day and put up the Do Not Distrub sign so that housekeeping wouldn't turn it down or off. The bath was about 8 feet down the hall. It was private that we were the exclusive users of the bath for our stay. I checked out the shared bathroom after some hair guy took a shower. Let's just say, I'm glad we paid extra for the private bath. To be fair, they would clean the bathroom promptly if you asked. There are a lots of foreign tourists and groups. The lounge is a pleasant place to socialize and relax and meet folks. The locations is perfect. It's two blocks to the nearest Metro station. Central Park and the riverfront park are only blocks away. This is true Upper West Side living. If you like Seinfeld and You've Got Mail, you're in the neighborhood where this show/movie are set. Broadway has lots of places to eat, shop for food and get whatever necessities you might want. read more

This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The pictures on the website all look fine and when we arrived the lobby area and common areas (since this is also a hostel) matched the photos and were very pleasant. It's in a good neighborhood. When they asked us to pay our balance in cash at check in, I should have realized something wasn't quite right-- and when I asked why they were very snippy. Nonetheless we went to their ATM and gave them cash, not wanting to have to find another hotel. The elevator to the 3rd floor was tiny and very old. The hallways looked very bad. There was a hideous Santa Claus picture on the wall. The room was pretty small with a tiny sink. No closet, no chair other than desk chair -- desk had large TV, but very limited menu playing I don't know what--nothing you would want to see--old quiz shows and unpopular sit coms. No microwave or coffee maker or even a cup for water. The carpet looked dirty, the shades were mismatched, one not a room darkening shade and one was. The lighting was very poor making the room dark. Lamp was wobbly and overhead light you pulled with a string. Bed small, but not too uncomfortable--sloppily made up. Shared bathrooms very old and appeared less than clean--stains on the walls. Temperature in room hard to moderate, but it was ok. No vending machines in the whole hotel. There are people living in the hotel year round. Our price for this hotel was not super low, maybe because it was Christmas, but perhaps they are other times, but only stay here if you're desperate. read more
