If you're having a bad day, it's worth dropping in for a bite to eat just so you can say "hi" to her. Between the food and the greeting you'll receive, you'll leave feeling better about things. So what to eat? Depending on the time of day and how hungry you are, you'll be pleased with Cazuelitas; Pozole Rojo or the herby Guerrero-style Pozole Verde; hearty Tlacoyos; large Enchilada plates; or probably my favorite Mexican dish, Mixiote de Borrego, which is lamb that's spiced, marinated and slow-steamed until it falls off the bone. I give it 2.5/5 stars. Not bad, not great. Been to 2 of they're restaurants in SD and wasn't that impressed either. The El Centro location staff seemed unprepared for opening day, too many greeters and waiters running around. They seemed lost. Our main waitress was really nice though. Food portions were outstanding, can't say the same about flavor though. I ordered "Huevos Divorciados" I was half way through my meal before my tortillas finally arrived, they were cold and not wrapped, they were thrown inside of a round blue plastic container that smelled like soap. I would recommend they put some sort of wrapper or napkin in between the container and tortillas. That said, l will still go back a few more times and give it a fair shot. (Side note) My wife ordered biscuits and gravy. The gravy had a faint green color to it. We told a waitress about it and she said they had problems with their gravy that morning and that the prep guys are lazy. Gravy is bad? Don't serve it. It was taken off our bill though. The waitress was not exactly a team player either. I sure hope the Managers get this place under control quick before it is too late. Meh is exactly how I feel about our first experience at the Broken Yolk. It's very possible that their specialty breakfast items are more "special", but the basic bacon and eggs breakfast was a disappointment. Denny's does a better basic breakfast (and I don't like Denny's). I feel like we went slumming, and paid twice the price I should have. My "over medium" eggs had runny whites--yuck. The bacon was like "dollar store" bacon, as my husband calls it--and the hash browns were greasy, salty, and peppery. Some people might like that greasy spoon type of food, but I don't. My husband had the chorizo and eggs, which he liked, but the rice was downright gross. Who puts peas in their breakfast/Spanish rice? Everything is overpriced from the coffee/soda to the basic breakfasts. We won't cheat on our favorite breakfast place again (which normally costs us $12-13, compared to Broken Yolk at $30). read more

I had a deeply upsetting experience during one of my visits. As a Mexican woman, I was shocked and hurt by the racism I encountered--especially in a community like Imperial Valley, where our culture is so rooted and present. I overheard one of the managers say, "I hate Mexicans," which was not only offensive but incredibly disturbing given the current climate and fear surrounding ICE raids. It's unacceptable for a business to hold or express these kinds of views, especially when serving a largely Mexican community. I will not be returning, and I hope others think twice before supporting a place where hate is tolerated--let alone expressed by those in charge. I was only there for 1 hour and can see it was hostile environment. I feel sad for the good people who work there. read more

I had the Border Benedict, California Burrito, and topped it off with Tiki Toast. Well ok, I had a friend to help me with all that, lol. Everything was delicious, coffee to wash it down, was good, hot and tasty. Service was super friendly and very efficient Loved the place, I'm sure I'll be a repeat customer for many years to come. I really enjoyed this place. Amazing customer service, amazing food. I loved the two eggs. I got hard boiled and they were amazing. The potatoes and blueberry muffin that came with it were amazing. The butter was the perfect temperature and the parfait was amazing and very fresh. The food came in under 5 minutes and the orange juice is perfect. By far the worst broken yolk restaurant in the chain. I've been to every single one and they've been amazing with their customer service and food. They have no idea what customer service is. They're extremely unprofessional and the food is an embarrassment for the actual chain. The company should do something about this location before it's driven to the ground read more
