For some reason I thought I reviewed before. I live close by and thought how wonderful to have a vet so close. Things were good with my previous dog, a few hiccups being able to get his meds easily, a lot of back and forth. My dog also was older and needed assistance to get on the table, this varied from kind compassionate help to not really my issue. Enter the next dog, went for a puppy exam and that went well. However, when I needed to come back to get an estimate to have him neutered, I just want a ballpark, a range. I was told that the doctor had to see him, again I said I want a range, not an exact and I know it can be more because one testicle hasn't dropped. Again I was told she must see him. I said I didn't want to pay for an exam, the lady at the desk said she understood that. So what ended up being a brief exam, listen to the heart, look in ears and feel his belly a few minutes, I was told to wait upfront. I did, and was told I owed 75$ for the exam. I repeated, I didn't want the exam. And said just a range. Well it turned into a very uncomfortable who said what thing. So I paid it. Upset about this all, I walked back and tried to understand what had happened. I spoke with Dr. Gill directly, she did offer me money back, I tried to make clear it was more about how it was handled, I can afford the 75 bucks, maybe some can't and this is where communication is required. I still never, got that estimate, which I'm due, I paid for it. Perhaps a compromise could have been, taking the 75 off the procedure if I had it done there. To me it doesn't matter that it seemed evident that I wasn't going to get it done there. I paid for that estimate. Same for any service if you pay for an estimate, you get an estimate so you have information to make a decision. I do feel ripped off here. I know, she did offer me the money back, but did make me feel like a turd for even questioning the whole situation. I could go one star even however I do think she is a skilled vet and cares about animals. The people skills and front office training need work. read more

I recently brought my loud spoiled guy in because he was having some issues with his ear. My first appointment was to treat his ear which I brought him in for an follow up as well. During my most recent visit I was able to speak with the tech while we discussed the write-up. I was advised to administer drops in my pups everyday. She took the time to answer my questions including if my dog could still have benadryl while on this medication. Dr. Gil even advised some post care that would prevent this from happening again. Checkout was smooth this time. I was able to pay and grab my receipt in under a few mins. My previous visit where my dog had dental cleaning I had some concerns. Dr Gil addressed my concerns during my dogs followup ear appointment. I explained to Dr. Gil that I do not have a tech background as veterinary so when uses some terms they might go right over my head or may be misinterpret. She totally gets it! I think this one of the reasons why I think she is a great veterinarian! We both understand during this pandemic everything is moving at a fast pace. So I think not meeting to face to face may have caused some my concerns during the dental cleaning post appointment. I really appreciate her clarify a few points from the dental cleaning not dental surgery treatment. Fyi, extractions are done by the veterinarian and charted by the tech. I totally missed that in my initial phone call back when my pup had his dental cleaning. All and all, I definitely will be back! This place was the most unprofessional vet I've ever been to. First, they have an obnoxious loud screeching bird in the waiting room, which stsrles you and make it hard to talk or concentrate on anything. One time, I came in with my cat for an antibiotic for a UTI, and they had me in the back room with her and bought out an IV fluid. Luckily, I was there! I questioned if that was the antibiotic, and they thought she was a different cat and was going to give her the wrong treatment! Another time, I called for a prescription follow-up, and similarly, they pulled up a different cat on file and started talking about incorrect perscriptions. When she was diagnosed with kidney disease, I had several questions for the Dr. and she kept trying to turn her back to me and leave after each question instead of giving me 5 minutes to answer me and was rude. I literally drive an hour north now to take her to her old vet. Stay away! read more

Came here to write a review because they should not have as low of a rating as they do! I love this vet and highly recommend it. Dr. Gill is very competent and caring for all the many animals who come through her office. The whole team is mindful of the high cost of animal care, and they do what they can to reduce those costs (discount vaccine days, discounts on flea/tick/heartworm supplements). Additionally, I really appreciate and admire how Dr. Gill staffs the office from the community and gives young people on the job training. This is a community-centered place that deserves your business, and grace when administrative things maybe go slightly awry. read more

Do Not take your fur baby here! This vet should have her license taken. I'm very disappointed in this vet. I called this clinic because my senior dog was very Ill. I knew it was time to have her euthanized. I made an appointment for euthanasia assessment and went into the clinic heartbroken but understanding that my dog was old and not doing well. This vet came in and wanted to run all sorts of testing saying it may just be a virus and said "she might have might have a year of life left in her". I started thinking she's a vet maybe she's right , she ran tests , gave my dog fluids, charged me $403.00 and sent me on my way. My dog could barely walk and I knew as soon as I walked out the door that she'd taken advantage of my emotional state. I felt horrible,, my dog had a miserable weekend and ended up being euthanized at a different animal hospital the following Tuesday. People please don't allow this person to take advantage of your emotional state. In a money grab she allowed my dog to suffer over the weekend and told me"at least you had more time with her". Those were her exact words .For those with a complaint against this clinic please contact the BBB and file a formal complaint at Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. read more

BE PREPARED TO WAIT!!! The is an obvious issue with scheduling that the front desk does not recognize. It operates as a walk-in vet service rather than adhering to a schedule. I've tried twice to schedule as a new patient and both times upon arrival for my scheduled appointment the waiting area was packed with ppl and their animals. Would have been really nice to be able to have a vet in my neighborhood but its completely unacceptable to expect ppl to wait 30-45 minutes after a scheduled appointment. As a bonus, the front desk is completely and unapologetically rude. They are so incredibly kind here! From reception to doctors, everyone we interacted with was friendly. Took my bearded dragon in after researching for a place who specialized in exotics because we weren't sure if he was sick or not. You can tell the doctor was super nice just in the way she was handling and interacting with my beardie. It was so cute to see. She was super knowledgeable and I'm so glad we came here because now my bearded dragon is living his best life and I now have a place for him to visit in case he gets sick. read more

I'm only giving four stars because the wait time was ridiculous. The women in front taking you in are extremely sweet and make you feel comfortable asking them questions. The Dr was very nice and quick but like I said the wait time was rough I waited about two hours to be seen but she did help save my chicken YES I SAID MY CHICKEN lol and thanks to her she's alive today still! Worth spending your money because they're you're pet it shouldn't matter. My chicken had a prolapsed vent and it cost me with medication and stitches $330 which to be honest is not bad because I know I couldn't fix my hen from that horrible accident so I'm my opinion worth spending a couple dollars. Ohhhh myyyy Godddd where do I begin?! Firstly I had a really hard time finding a vet that would even see my Neo (Frilled Dragon) Everyone said the same thing "we take lizards just not that kind". It was extremely discouraging. I was about to drive my baby 1.5hr outside of the city when I found the Bronzeville Animal clinic which is only 15mins away from me. And bout am I happy I did! My little baby had been lethargic, not eating, laying around in the same spot (wouldn't move unless I physically moved her" for a little less than a month. I took her to the doc, she assessed Neo, gave me homework and Neo vitamins and food that we thought I'd have to force feed. Turns out my picky eater really loves the taste and happily gobbled it up. ONE day later, my baby is running around the cage, inquisitive, chasing things, energetic...omgsh I'm so happy I could cry!!!! I was so worried and she turned my baby around fast. I'm so mad! Before going to the vet, I told the office that Pep gets anxious while waiting to be seen. I called TWICE and asked if I could wait outside until the vet was ready to see Pep. They said ok. My appointment was at 5 and wasn't seen until 5:45! Then I still had to wait a long time while I waited inside. They could hear her in distress yet there was no sense of urgency. When I asked if I could go outside to get her some air, they said no TWICE and the second time they said "if you leave, we're going to have to ask you to come back another day." REALLY?!! I think Dr. Sophia Gill is a great vet for all animals. But I strongly hesitate that she's the right vet for rodent pets like Guinea pigs. All other animals are ok. From experience, if you have a pet that is a Guinea pig, I would go with another vet that specializes in exotic pets. read more

Brace yourself! I took Stone to the vet at 9:30am to get a dental cleaning and 3-5 teeth removed with an estimated fee of $250-350. Around 2pm I called to check on his status. I was told everything is good he would be ready at 5:45. I get a call from the vet saying she pulled 16 teeth and the bill is $677. WTF?!? WTH?!? Then wanted to keep him hostage, YES hostage, because Stone only had $350 in his backpack. THIS MOFO BOTCHED MY BABY! I AM HEATED! I'm still in shock. Our kitten died unexpectedly. We brought our cat here to get an autopsy on about December 7th, 2020. The doctor verbally gave us the results but will it give us them in writing. We need them in writing because our cat had a genetic guarantee with the breeder. It is now January 16 and we still have no autopsy. Everytime I call the doctor is not in. Everytime we call there is some excuse why we don't have the autopsy report. I'm so disappointed and we want to have this issue resolved so we can hold the breeder accountable. I'm started to think that she is hiding something from us. We should not be treated like this when there are so many other vets in the area, we could've chosen. Losing our cat was traumatic in itself, but to be strung along like this by the vet adds insult to injury. read more

I cannot begin to explain my sincere gratitude for Dr. Gill and her amazing team at the Bronzeville Animal Clinic! A week ago my best friend got into the trash something that happens regularly (consumed food mold, something I was unaware was so toxic) and little did we know that night would quickly escalate into the most horrific and terrifying experience the two of us had ever faced together, alone. My boy started having seizures to the point where all of my man power wasn't able to contain him, the easiest term would be something had "possessed" every muscle of his tiny body. I got him to an emergency clinic that attempted to "treat" him while what seemed to be the entire staff laughed, played and carried on personal conversations; He was then sent home due to me not being able to immediately provide them with $3200.00, they gave me a bottle of pills and a "good luck" while he was still shaking uncontrollably. I laid with him all night, didn't leave his side while he continuously seized, vomited and passed bowel movements. The sunrise couldn't come soon enough. I found a veterinarian clinic that was close to my house that opened at 8:00am and at 7:45 we were on the way, I arrived at 8:03am only to be turned away... they too refused to offer my baby medical treatment. I then found Bronzeville Animal Clinic which didn't open until 9:00am, so regardless of it only being 8:10am, I drove straight there and parked right in front with my hazard lights on and began to pray. At 8:30, a man walked down the street and began to unlock the door of the clinic.... I yelled out the window of my car in desperation, he needed no explanations, told me he had to turn off the alarm and he came right back. He happened to be one of the veterinary assistants and even though there was no doctor coming in until 9:00am he took Skylan and immediately got him put on oxygen. This clinic "family" (the doctor and her team) then began an intense 6 day treatment in an effort to save the closest living thing I have to me all while giving me the most realistic feedback they possibly could. The amount of love they showed Skylan was nothing shy of a miracle. One assistant found calming music to help his anxiety, she looked up ways to help his lasting tremors and massaged his head to help ease his brain. Dr. Gill watched over him personally the whole first night he was in their care, even going as far as having him in her home. Another assistant gave Sky a bite of her bread from lunch after he began to show improvement. It was a week of overwhelming highs and overwhelming lows... but now my baby is home by my side and I have the Bronzeville Animal Clinic to thank for it. This incredible TEAM is the reason Skylan is alive and along with all the prayers and positive vibes he lives on to fight another day! The moral of his story is to raise awareness about how easily an everyday substance can affect the things you love the most! Know what you're putting in your trash and if it is anywhere an animal or child can get into, don't take the risk just take it outside, don't leave it in your home. Thank you Dr. Gill and the Bronzeville Animal Clinic, you not only gave Skylan life again but you helped remind me that there are good people on this earth, sometimes it just takes a couple tries to find them . read more

I love this place. Lots of students who love animals and are in training or college. I went with my kitten Marlo. My first cat as a pet after being terrified of cats for most of my life, the Dr. was extremely knowledgeable and she helped put me at ease. This place seems like it would be good for more exotic pets, and I the staff seems pretty knowledgeable and friendly, but this place is dangerously mismanaged. I brought a new stray cat in 3 times, and the front desk people messed up my appointment all three times. First appointment, they realized they scheduled me for the wrong date accidentally. Fortunately they managed to squeeze me in the same day anyway, which was nice. They vaccinated her but forgot to microchip her or give me the results of her FIV test. The second appointment was for booster shots and a spay. When I called the morning of (they don't send any kind of appointment confirmation), they said she was only scheduled for a vaccination booster shot, and they would call me back to see if she could be spayed that day. They didn't call back. After I called them 2 hours later I scheduled the spay with the vet tech. During the second appointment she still wasn't microchipped. Third appointment was for a spay. I had to call several days in a row to actually get instructions for when to bring her in (they closed for a week without giving any notice and don't have an answering machine or answer emails). The day of, the front desk people never showed up so I sat outside for 30 minutes with a guy complaining that their dog had to go a week without heart medicine because they didn't notify him they were shut down, and a women looked for a different emergency vet to go to. The vet tech finally let me in. Fortunately he remembered to write down that my cat needed a microchip. Also the front desk people take off their mask sometimes and don't cover their nose. I would not recommend this place unless they plan on replacing all of their administrative staff. read more

Expect to spend 3 hours at the vet for a booked appointment time for the veterinarian to spend 5 minutes with your pet. There was no interest from the vet as to how her illness was affecting her (I.e. not eating, listless, level of pain) to the point of annoyance that I had any questions or concerns. I was presented with a bill that was priced per line item. Those prices for the same listed line item increased when I went to check out. Expect to be treated poorly, and with disgust if you'd like to talk to the vet directly about your pet's illness. It is my opinion that this clinic lacks humanity whether intentionally or unintentionally but if they can inflict any sort of pain to a person that comes in by using an animal, they will. read more

My dog had a UTI that kept reoccurring, I asked and paid for X-rays to see if it was kidney stones that are causing the problem. I never received a follow up on the X-rays, I just wanted to talk to someone about the service (X-rays) that I had paid for. Called 3 times asking about what can be seen on the X-rays. I was told they are extremely busy and will me back. No call, the last two times I called I was given an attitude. I've had to go somewhere else and re pay for these X-rays. Please don't go here. They will take your money and give you an attitude when inquiring about the service provided. read more

Wow. Dr. Gil is the cat whisperer. For real. Even though I recently moved up the block from this animal hospital, I usually take my cats to the animal hospital I've been going to for years: Brighton Park Animal Hospital. Brighton Park is cheaper. However, all my cats are now registered at Bronzeville Animal Clinic for emergencies. I recently took one of my cats to my old vet for routine shots. They're walk-in while Bronzeville usually asks you to set up an appointment. After an hour and twenty minutes of waiting (and being told it would take another 30 minutes before my cat would be seen), I called up Bronzeville and asked if I could bring in my cat for shots later that afternoon. They said I could bring him right away. Hooray! I didn't need to make an appointment! So I drove back to Bronzeville and was in and out in about twenty minutes. On top of that, they didn't have to take my cat to the back for shots! My sweetheart cat is a little monster at the vet who squirms and scratches and hisses and growls. I figured doctor would take him to the back like everyone else does. Nope. She had a nurse scruff my cat and rub his head to distract him while she rubbed his thigh and gave him his three shots. I'm sold. Anyone who can give my cat his shots without strapping him down in the back (or whatever it is they do) wins my business, even if their rabies vaccine costs $20 more than at my old vet. read more

Worst animal clinic I've ever been to. I took my dog here for about 3 years. At first (2018-2019), I thought they were great - the staff was friendly and the prices were reasonable. After some time, the clinic became understaffed and unresponsive. I have never received a call back when told I could expect to hear from them. I once waited two hours just to pick up a prescription that I was told was ready because they had "accidentally given it to someone else." It took me over a month to receive my dog's medical records and I called them once a week asking for them. My dog had injured her leg and had ACL surgery at a different animal hospital. I needed her medical records so that I could submit a claim for reimbursement (about $6,000). I finally received the records after refusing to hang up until they sent them. Long story short, take your furbabies somewhere else. read more

The staff and team here at Bronzeville Animal Clinic are amazing. My dog can be very hyper and gets anxiety at the vet, they take their time with him to calm him during exams. I love Dr. Gil, she is warming and explains everything that is wrong with your pet and goes over the next steps throughly. We never feel rushed. My husband and I are so glad we found them! read more

I really wanted to like this place because the first visit was awesome and it was my puppy first trip to the vet despite the coupon on yelp being no longer valid everyone there that day was super friendly. Unfortunately the next 3 visits were very disappointing. The second visit left me concerned cause there was a mix up in the paper work that my dog was labeled a cat, but I was like fine whatever it was a mistake. The third visit there was a confusion on my dog account and what shots were left to get, when I called back they wanted to schedule for more shots he already took. I got transferred at least 10x when I tried to clarify the shots he needed and what was left. The fourth visit wasn't much better, I understand it was very busy but my dog was left waiting for 2 hours because someone forgot to call to let me know he was ready. They mention a shot at the desk my dog can take to schedule but another girl working happened to pass by to let her know that it was for puppies. I'm concerned that not everyone on staff is on the same page. I don't plan on returning. read more

Also, they were affordable, conveniently located (parking can be tricky but there is usually parking across the street along the park) and easy to get to. Our local vet. The vet here is very good with animals and I believe the prices to be fair. The vet tech Rachel here is very kind. The facilities are clean and I enjoy the vet's pet always in the office: Owen the bird and a new chinchilla. However, I had to knock off a star because my cat needs specific medicine and fluids and in the winter, a few times, they were out due to weather delaying a shipment-- and my cat had to go without medicine. I think they need a more reliable medicine delivery system. read more

Brought our new baby Ice to see Dr. Gill and our experience was great. As two brand new pet owners, we knew little and wanted to learn everything and Dr. Gill took her time in explaining things to us and answering our questions. She made sure to explain all our options, and gave her recommendations with no pressure. The entire staff was awesome with Ice, soothing him and petting him, which was great for our anxious pup! I don't understand how this clinic is averaging 4 stars!? My experience was less than 1 star. We had arrived on time, but ended up waiting 1-hour until we decided to give up and walk out. We bumped to Dr. Gil out the door to realize she was CHATTING in the lobby while we were waiting all along. Although she could tell we were agitated, Dr. Gil did my dog's physical in less than 30 SECONDS! It was so rushed and not thorough....We were even more baffled when we had gotten charged $50 for such a half-assed physical. We had walked out paying over $250 for annual vaccinations since we were originally UNDER QUOTED for visit. The staff forgot to provide us our rabies certification, so we had to drive back to retrieve it. Very unsatisfied. read more

5stars. . I was absolutely devastated when my rescue dog of 14 years passed away. I had just moved to the area and this was the closest place to bring her in that day. Thank god RACHEL was working that day. Not only was she beyond helpful... but the way she had comforted me.. hugged me.. helped us through the door as I carried my lost best friend of 14 years. I felt blessed to have crossed paths with her on that painful day.. It was such a hard day for us.. and she made it easier to deal with. The final.. "say goodbye." About 2 weeks later I went to go get Ladybirds ashes... Not only did she surprise me with a beautiful frame and poem for my precious Ladybird.. which is something that brings me so much joy to wake up and see the frame by her photos everyday.. but also .. which made me breakdown.. A week after that when all was said and done.. RACHEL called me out of the blue and said.. "if you want to come in.. we have an imprint of Lady's paw print for you." This was so great. Even if they did it with every dog or pet that passes...The way she surprised me with it.. as if all is done and then we have this beautiful gift to help with the healing. It was a complete surprise. And so uplifting when I went to get it. I started crying to see her perfect paw print... WITH PERFECT DETAIL. to me.. the little things count the most. That was one of the hardest days and moments I've had to go through. I was very fortunate to have Rachel help me through it.. the smile and heart filled moment I had when I held lady's paw print in my hands is irreplaceable. That's worth 5stars any day. For many years our family's pets exclusively received care from the wonderful Dr. Wake and later Dr. Williams. However, after Dr. Wake's retirement and changes in ownership, the practice just isn't the same. We've been looking for a new vet practice and received many recommendations to try Bronzeville Animal Clinic.
