I am extremely disappointed with the operations at this place. Opposite of what I was sold on by sales manager. Severe lack of communication and organization at this facility. Important issues, like resident care and safety, are often overlooked. The management team is unresponsive Despite several attempts to address these issues, nothing seems to improve. Administrator does not return phone calls. Staffing shortages are a constant problem, and it directly affects the quality of care my Aunt facing. In some instances, I've noticed a lack of follow-through on promises made, which is very frustrating when it comes to the well-being of our loved ones. I am looking for different options as My aunt is unhappy at this place and management. I will not recommend this facility to anyone. read more

Recently My wife was diagnosed with Kidney disease and I was frantically looking for some help in getting her dialyzed as well as providing her help in other areas like escort services, incontinence support and dining services. The Marketing person known as MJ was very kind and efficient and gave us a tour of the property. The property has separate areas for community get together with a nice fire place, a Theater with very large TV and comfortable chairs and also an activity room where they keep residents busy with a variety of activities. My wife has stayed at Brookdale for more than a month. I have found the executive director to be very friendly and understanding. She has always listened to our concerns and tried to solve any issues brought up. You will find Miss Niare to be a hands on, care giver ready to help you. She is on a mission to further improve the culture at Brookdale. Running a facility like Brookdale is a challenge. Most of the staff we have met are very friendly. Improvements are needed in the Dining area where the servers could be more efficient and more friendly. Miss Niare is working on hiring more people who could take these challenges. Before we made a decision to join the Brookdale community, I have looked at three to four compatible properties. The location of Brookdale is surrounded by nature and gives a very suburban feeling. The lobby and the patio areas are also very nicely done. The family of the residents have loved it. If you are looking for a senior living place for your loved ones, Brookdale must be on your list. I highly recommend Brookdale in San Ramon if you are looking for assisted living. I moved my mom in at the beginning of December and I am very pleased. The staff is friendly and everyone knows everyone. My mom looks forward to going to the dining room and having a nice meal with her friends, daily exercise class, Bingo, and her weekly salon appointment. The caregivers are loving and really care for the residents. MJ and Niare are always checking in to make sure everything is just right and my mom is happy. This is a nice comfortable home environment where your loved ones can be as independent as they want to be, and still be safe and cared for. read more

I cannot recommend this assisted living facility enough. There is a new director here and she is the kindest, most compassionate person ever! The previous reviews are from when someone else was managing. Niare has fantastic and extensive experience managing, directing, and loves her job. She's made and is making a ton of improvements all around the facility. I sound like I work here, I do not. We are moving our beautiful Mom in. She has an unbelievably spacious and pristine new apartment for a very reasonable price. We've been looking all over the bay area, and I hesitated to visit this facility due to all of the bad reviews. Our family is so relieved to finally find the right place. My brother in law stopped every resident and asked them if they were happy and they were thrilled to say yes, that they love it, and love Niare. She's an absolute doll! I moved my 83-year old Mother to this facility in San Ramon in November of 2014 where she lived until she passed away last month at age 89. Our experience was a good one - my Mother liked the rooms she lived in, she formed good relationships with the caregivers, and she was always able to participate in activities and events that she enjoyed, such as bingo, painting, card games, etc. My Mother was very particular and would not hesitate to speak up if she did not like something, and overall, she was very pleased with Brookdale. She even told me last year "You did good moving me here". The staff is friendly and caring, and housekeeping and cleaning is done well. When my mother became terminal, she was able to have hospice right in her room. She was well taken care of, and kept comfortable and clean. I would recommend Brookdale San Ramon to take good care of your loved one(s). read more

Our experience has not been a good one. Though the staff is nice (which is why I gave 2 stars and not 1), the Management works hard to stay within a budget -- at the expense of the safety of the residents. The caregivers are dedicated and hard working, though there are not enough of them. At best there are 3 caregivers on shift, but at times there have been only 2. We would be very happy with a response time of 10 minutes, but often times it is much longer. Also, when my mother moved in, the screen door that led to her deck was torn on the top and bottom and would not roll on the tracks -- it was useless. Since my mom does not like insects flying in, she has to keep her door to the deck closed. In other words, she has NO fresh air in her room. I requested a new screen, but was told that it is a "special order" and is out of stock, which usually means it will never come in. I asked about a magnet screen, but was not that wouldn't work, though about 4 months later they installed a magnetic screen, but it was too big for the doorway, though better than none at all. I have complained to the interum Executive Director about these problems twice and both times our cost for services was raised. Though they assessed my mother in August 2016 and charged her $1900 for extra services, two weeks later (after I complained) they raised it another $895. After 2 separate occasions when my mother was left stranded without a caregiver responding to take her back to her room, I complained again and was hit with an additional increase of $476. Though a few months later, after we gave 30 day notice, they reduced the cost to the original amount. I see the level of care going down and their prices increasing. They still do not have a permanent Executive Director -- the previous one went out on medical leave in October 2016 and has not returned yet. I have moved my mother into a Board & Care Home instead. The larger facilities, like Brookdale, are acceptable if you are independent and can walk. But for my mother who is in a wheelchair and needs help with everything, this is not a safe solution. read more

When our mother moved into this facility over four years ago, it was a nice place. The director's name was Shawn who ran the place with care, not afraid to get his hands dirty. As many assisted living facilities are lacking in staff, it would not be uncommon to find Shawn helping in the dining hall, cleaning the common areas, or answering calls from residents for help in their apartments. He would regularly hold meetings inviting residents to share their thoughts, suggestions, complaints or praise. Three years later, Shawn was dismissed (or voluntarily left -- families were never told what happened) and a new director, Anna Reddy, replaced him. Things went terribly downhill from there. Residents never were formally introduced to the director and even a year later most did not know what she looked like. Brookdale San Ramon went from decent to deplorable quickly. Many long-time staff members were let go and replaced with staff the new director brought in. At no time were new staff members introduced to residents, as the previous director did on a regular basis. Twice, our mother woke up to strangers in her bedroom announcing they had to check her vitals. Our mother was so frightened as she had never met these male caregivers before. A new housekeeper joined the staff and the halls became visibly dirty, not being vacuumed regularly. Additionally, minimal effort was made in cleaning the apartments. Our mother, as well as family, felt left in the dark during the COVID lockdowns, with no regular updates provided nor clear direction of COVID procedures (e.g, quarantine rules, visitation, etc.). The dining hall was closed to limit human contact and meals were instead delivered to each apartment. Several times, our mother was forgotten and not delivered a meal, forcing her to call the caregivers to remind them she hadn't been provided any meals. Sometimes she received her first meal after 2:00 p.m. Three times our mother fell in her apartment activating her ALERT with no response. Fortunately, they were not serious falls but our 89- year old mother was on the floor helpless, and had to crawl to the phone to call for help. The third time, no one answered her calls, so she had to contact my sister to call the facility. Once my sister was able to reach someone, the staff replied that "everyone was on break." We finally decided to move our mother to a new facility due to the deterioration of care and cleanliness. I communicated with the director and accountant several times giving them notice of our intention to move our mother at the end of the month and to cease any automatic withdrawals from our mother's bank account for the monthly rent. The end of the month was not a full 30 days (we were short about one week), but I inquired about any procedures or requirements for the move. The director only instructed us to give her 48 hours notice if we were planning to access her apartment to pack. At no time did she state that a full 30-day notice was required . During the last week of our mother's residency, several meals were not provided and caregivers neglected to check on her for days at a time. (During this period, med techs/caregivers were taking regular temperature checks/vitals on a daily basis.) When our mother called for a caregiver, they told us that they were told by management that our mother moved out already. When we finally moved her to her new facility in April, a week later $5K was taken from her bank account by Brookdale. I contacted Brookdale immediately and spoke with the accountant reminding him of my emails three weeks ago directing them to stop automatic withdrawals. He replied that he knew of my instruction but was told by the director to make the withdrawal. Additionally, he said we would receive a refund check in the mail. He added "I don't know if you were told but I was instructed to withhold an additional $1600 from your mother's refund check." I was shocked and upset and asked what the $1600 charge was for and why wasn't I advised when I gave notice of the move. He replied that he was surprised the director did not tell us, but we did not give the full 30-day notice required so the $1600 would be withheld. One month later, my mother still did not receive her refund and I contacted Brookdale, only to be told it was NOT sent to my mother's new address (which she left with Brookdale for forwarding purpose) but was instead mailed to my former home, which I sold more than 7 months ago. All of these incidents are due to lack of competent management. I made several complaints to the regional manager, but unfortunately Anna Reddy remains the director at Brookdale San Ramon. Staff is leaving or looking for new employment and residents are leaving as well. Usually you get what you pay for but this place is not only costly but no better than a county-run senior home. Take my advice and don't ever consider moving your loved one into Brookdale San Ramon. read more

i give you guys a 1 star for the Director of the company firing an employee chasing a patient 4 blocks away when they went AWOL in the RAIN without a ride back. Obviously poorly ran by management that is emotionally unstable and has no sympathy for employees that care for the patients. LEAD BY EXAMPLE, if you F up, would you like to be fired on the spot? I saw the ad for Brookdale, San Ramon in 2019, & went to check it out. The staff was friendly, welcoming & informative. The residents were friendly as well. After taking my dad to check it out we him moved in. The staff is very warm, friendly, patient & encouraging with both the residents & families. They work hard & keep me informed. There are many activities available for the residents, as well as fun celebration parties (with food, music & dancing) for holidays for both residents & family, with a great time had by all! The dining room is lovely. The new director is outstanding! Though she has only been there a short time, she is on top of things, very caring, warm & welcoming toward all. She interacts & knows her residents & made many positive changes for the safety & enrichment of the residents, staff & environment. The atmosphere is wonderful! The residents are also warm, friendly & welcoming.. I'm so grateful I've found such a safe, caring place for my dad. read more

I don't write many reviews but this should be important to know for all of those who rely on good reviews. I was searching for Assisted living for my mom. And not sure how but I received a phone call from MJ sales and marketing manager at this community. She asked what day and time I would I tour beautiful San Ramon community. My first reaction was NO WAY!!! I am not going to move my mom to this community but MJ was very persisting yet compassionate for seniors. She insisted that I should meet her new team, loving caregivers and Happy Resident. She sounded very genuine so I decide to tour. We can feel the positive energy the minute we walk inside. This was nothing like we read reviews in the past. am glad my mother moved into this beautiful community which is surrounded by nature.  I can't tell you how happy she is.  The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and have gone above and beyond with socialization for my mom.  I know that she is having great time at this Brookdale San Ramon Community.  There have been many social functions happy hours, bingo, movie nights with fun activities and interesting learning opportunities for her. Thank you MJ for changing our mind, you are the gem of this community. I have interacted with a number of other facilities for my mom, and hands down, this is by far the best. I moved my mother here in December 2017. I am constantly impressed with this beautiful residence and the director Shawn Cull and Tim Brager maintenance mgr. They are exceptional, always willing to help and assist whatever the need, and do so with respect and compassion . This residence is wonderful, I consider my mother quite fortunate to be here. The fun they have is impressive, They have live entertainment weekly, happy hour, movies daily, bingo, board games, outings, art, on and on. The caregivers are all still here since she came no constant turn over like her precious residence. They enjoy being here and it shows. I can't say enough about the director Mr. Cull , he manages this residence as a warm home, and he personally does whatever needs to be done to make the residents happy, including having decent food, even root beer floats and ice cream cones. The residence are a wonderful group of people, they help each other and enjoy the company of one another. I can Very highly recommend Brookdale San Ramon. read more

When you need additional help for a loved one, your expectations are extraordinarily high. Following an extensive search for the right place that would work for my grandma, we moved her into this facility. It became apparent after Brookdale Corporation became the owner and operator of this facility, that elder care was not their priority. The care was well below standard, the food and dining service was not healthy nor adequate for consumption, I witnessed on multiple occasions the activities director being verbally abusive, we did not receive transportation services as promised, the "Acting" Executive Director was sub standard at best, and the cleaning service fell well below standards. Too many ADA laws broken to count. The lack of training and communication among caregivers, and other staff created a dangerous environment. This prompted us to begin a new search for a different facility. Two weeks prior to moving her out and into the new facility, she had a fatal fall. This fall resulted in injuries she was never able to recover from. I met with, caregivers, home health staff, Management, RN, LVN, and "Acting" Executive Director on multiple occasions to address these issues. Sadly, instead of making the necessary improvements and changes needed to improve the care of our aging community, Brookdale as a facility and a corporation decided to choose budget over all else, subsequently putting all our loved ones in danger. The result was a fatal fall, my grandma was unable to recover from. Please do not for one minute consider placing your loved one in this or any other facility owned and operated by The Brookdale Corporation! I give this facility ZERO stars!!!
