When i first walked in, i thought this was going to be a bar i loved. A great patio with a great band, this was nice. Yet, we had a awful, negative waitress. She was a large short women,who first yelled at my friend who got a beer at the bar, she thought he had just pulled it out of his pants (i guess) then she would not come over to the table. We had to keep going up to her just to get a beer. She didn't even look at us. At one point, a friend had to ask if she was still our server bc she was that bad. The bar was not crazy packed. She was just hanging out outside with her friends. So we got out bill, we did not leave her a good tip. We should NOT have to chase down out server at a bar. and we always tip great. After that she came up to us and told us not to come back bc the tip was bad and we did tell her why. She was awful and didnt care that she sucked at her job. BAD BAD BAD server, the worst I have ever had. If you go there and she is your server, RUN AWAY. read more

Came because my bother's friend's band was playing live on the patio so we went to support. The atmosphere was awesome because the sun was setting and there were lights but they were dimmed little bit. Some people brought their dogs on a leash so it's dog friendly patio. We ordered our food and it came out late so our waiter gave us chips and salsa to snack on while waiting for our food for apology. I had bleu chips and a red snapper sandwich. The bleu chips had a lot of intense flavors going on. The chips that it came in looked like ruffles chips but it was baked. I thought there was too much seasoning on the chip esp to go with the sauce and bleu cheese that it came in. I tried the tortilla chips from the chips and salsa and I thought that was a much better pair to the bleu chips instead of the chips it came in. The red snapper, I liked it but I thought it was a little over cooked. It was tough on certain parts of the fish. I think I could've possibly came on a bad day? We were in town for the UCLA v. Memphis game so went over to Brookhaven on Friday night. We sat outside and it was excellent. Great neighborhood. Service was a touch slow at times but considering how busy they were it was within reason. Prices were very reasonable by my California standards. The hummus was really good for an appetizer. A decent watering hole with good pub grub. I want to give this place 4 or 5 stars, but there's just one big issue. This is one of the loudest establishments I've been to in many years. It all stems from a low ceiling with a smooth, plastered finish. Once there's 50-60 patrons, the volume is deafening. Owner, this is easily solved! There are all sorts of sound absorption materials that can be affixed to walls and/or ceilings to reduce background noise and improve speech intelligibility. Ya know, what initially drew me to this cozy little corner of a bar was its uniqueness and overall atmosphere of feeling like a well worn in pair of wrangler jeans. The kind of place that makes you want to stand up and say "I'm not a role model, I'm a jeans model" (Brett favre) but what really ground my gears was when I ordered my standard order of a double g&t with two limes but was given a just that but with one single lime. We love this bar... simply put. We go for the patio and stay for the awesome bands. The drinks aren't too shabby either. They have one of the best bloody marys in town! The waiting and bar staff are super nice, and they always earn their tip. We have spent many nights on the patio after a long week of work dancing the night away to Freeworld. They have a large menu for a bar. It is your standard bar fare, but it is not standard in taste! Everything I have eaten from there taste delicious. The patio is the best hangout spot in town. There is a reason this bar stays packed. Even packed, this bar is still very comfortable to be in. Once again, we love this bar! read more

This place has been one of our favorites, until our last very recent visit. I would have given 4 stars. We sat outside and were ignored for a good 10 min by all the servers. Finally, one of them cleaned the table, took our drinks order. One of us had a soda, the other a cocktail. In the meantime, a small group sat behind us and right away, the same server immediately took their drinks order. She came back with our soda and some water, and with all the drinks for the other table. I waited another 5 min for my cocktail. At that point, she took our food order, and did the same for the other table. Soon, the other table had their food and refills of their drinks. She asked them often if everything was ok. As for us, well when we got our food, she never asked us for refills and never asked us about our food. Let me say something about the food this time: our basket of fries had maybe ten fries and was overly salted. That's not what I call a basket! It should be overflowing with fries, so 2 people can share. We are very disappointed. My partner never had another soda and I had to ask another server for another drink. We never were asked if we needed condiments or anything else and were totally ignored until the end. I hope the manager sees this review and addresses it with his/her crew because this was the worst service we have ever had. We probably won't go back and that is a shame. read more

Brookhaven supports Memphis and adds to its culture by using Charlie's Meat Market for its meat, and there are some unexpected menu items making it a more unique place for pub fare! We came here on a Tuesday night for Trivia. Me along with 3 people. First, the wait staff took a vey long time (which I am not faulting for - the bar was under construction and the place was very busy due to trivia - not the reason for the 1 star rating). When asking the wait staff for a recommendation on food, the response was unenthusiastically "Well its bar food, so.... whatever you want." The food took quite a while to come, but once again, they were busy. When we finally got our food, my brother took a bite of his burger and the cook left the plastic wrapper on the cheese and he got a full mouth full of that plastic wrap. When we called the waiter over, he took the food and walked away, as soon as this happened I took a bite of my mushroom swiss burger, and there was a large clump of matted black hair that I pulled out of my mouth, nearly gagging and vomitting while I did so. We did not have to pay for anything except our drinks, but needless to say, I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

This place is great. The bartenders are friendly and the they have a nice selection of beers. The food is fine but I mostly go for the laid back atmosphere and to watch sporting events. Early in the afternoon, I will take my kids and the kitchen will make them a great grilled cheese. read more

Went there for lunch today, and it was horrible. I ordered the country fried steak, and you can tell it was a frozen patty. For my sides, I ordered mashed potatoes and fried okra. The mashed potatoes were microwaved until they turned burnt and solid on the bottom of the bowl. My wife ordered their salmon salad, and the salmon was completely raw. We don't complain when something gets messed up, and when the waitress saw our plates, she said she was sorry without us even saying anything, then charged us the full amount. Now I feel like I ate bad Chinese "food poisoning". I should have walked out when I noticed the place was empty during lunch hour. This might be a good bar, but they have no business serving food. read more

This establishment, like all of the businesses on this street, use to be a residential neighborhood (I use to live on this street in the late 60's/early 70's) thus the smaller "feel" to this place. My wife and I have been visiting here for about 8+ years and the staff is friendly. The food is good consistantly. Burgers are fantastic (Charlie Meat Market!!)....lunch menu has a good selection as well! what I like about this place is that there is little to no turn-over in staff.....Usually see the same freindly staff with each visit.............smoking is permitted on the outdoor patio (cigars allowed). Server was nice, food was ok, but the atmosphere was like a children's playground for adults. We came to listen to the acoustic entertainment and were hit with a bunch of 30+ old adults stumbling, breaking glasses, standing directly in front of the stage to block the entertainers, and yelling as loud as they could to the point where you couldn't hear the music. Heck, one woman was bumping and grinding to literally every single song they played. I'm like, really! This is an upscale tavern. I would have thought the management would have tried at least contain the glass breaking, spilled drinks and tables being turned over. For real, I like to party like the next person, but damn! Did not expect this at all. It would have been different if we were talking about a bunch of 20 somethings. These people were 35-55. Some of them were from the sports programs from the University of Memphis as some were all seated at a long table in the middle. read more

Kicks ass. Old house turned in to a bar/ restaurant. has the most active patio in Memphis plus two outdoor 50" HDTVs. Has three more of those indoor. the best place to watch a game and drink. The patio has bands Thursday thru Saturday and while most people seem to know each other, the talent late at night is excellent. Mainly a 21 to 35 crowd from 10 on. Great bar and bartenders. Food is very good for bar food. Try the Red Snapper sandwich. The bar has a low ceiling which was a problem at night as it did allow smoking. They are using the new smoke law and have gone nonsmoking. Hope they stay that way as others are changing back to smoking. Go to this place for fun. They do have heaters on the bar and operate it outdoors in the coldest weather you will find in Memphis. read more
