I went with a few of my friends to go and see the cats! The people working there are unbelievably friendly and knowledgeable about the animas they have up for adoption. The cats there are mostly really sweet also- The people working there will let you know if not. The work that they're doing there is really wonderful and I hope that more people will continue to spread the word about this agency that way more animals get adopted. read more

I wish I had read some of these reviews before I decided to foster. I had a very negative experience, similar to the "cat extortion" review from another yelp reviewer. I did adopt the foster cat, but was asked (or told I must pay) a much higher fee than advertised on their site, and if I did not pay, I had 24 hours to return the cat - who I had taken care of for 3 plus months. They would rather have the poor cat return to the shelter than work with me on the fee, which was never told to me until AFTER they pressured me to submit an adoption application. They also listed him 2 years old with no known medical conditions, and they day after I brought him home, they emailed me a de wormer reminder which stated the cat's age as 9. His records show he was 9 from his intake. Unethical. A month in, it turned out he needed dental work that they were aware of since his intake. I could go on, but I did get a wonderful cat. read more

The employees were nice and the place was really cozy. There was also a cubby to put our stuff in, like our backpack. We booked an appointment for around 3 pm, which I guess is prime napping time for cats because only about 3-4 cats were awake and the rest were sleeping. About 10 people basically stared at one cat because we were trying to social distance and pet the cat at the same time. Also, I say one cat because the other 3 were basically done with people and did not want to be petted. Trust me, several people tried to pet the cats but they physically moved back and ran away. It's quite difficult since most people there seemed to be shy about approaching the antisocial cats. I feel like the employees could have helped out more because the situation was really awkward. I ended up spending more time interacting with their turtles in the tank than cats. read more

Beautiful cats available for adoption, cute interior and decorations. They have mostly cats/kittens there but they do have bunnies, rats, and turtles as well. Mostly volunteers there that take care of the cat, if you want to help out as a volunteer that's available, just ask about the information with the staff there. Upon entering you need to use hand sanitizer and there's a form you have to read and sign, under 18 you need a guardian to go in with you. $7 per 30mins. Pretty clean place and walkable to the subway station. Not too hard to find and everything is very clear. Cats with red collars means that they were probably once abused so they are not too friendly and you should NOT pet one. Any other cats are free to pet, a couple toys there that you can use to play with the cats. A few items that you can purchase as well. I've been to a few cat cafes now & I like how they all differ quite a bit. This was my 1st American cat cafe experience & it was a really positive one! We headed along in the off chance/hope they would have a walk-in space for us both & luckily they did. It was actually quite quiet when we went & I love that you only pay for as long as you stay ($5 for half an hour) It had such a chilled atmosphere & although they don't have their own actual 'cafe' onsite they do sell snacks & drinks & also you can should you wish purchase food/drinks from the Bagel Cafe next door & take them in (10% of their sales go towards the BCC too which is cool). They have plenty of cats that's for sure! Everywhere I looked there seemed to be more & more kitties sitting, sleeping, hiding & generally just relaxing in the cafe. There was also a mother cat & her teeny tiny kittens! So adorable. I made a few feline friends and my boyfriend made one great friend who sat beside & near him the whole time! So cute. The other really great & different thing about this cafe as opposed to others I have visited is that all the cats here are rescue cats who are up for adoption, so should you visit one day & fall in love with one (or 2...or 3...!) you can actually take that kitty home & give it a beautiful forever home. So lovely! The other thing I must add is that BCC also run a non-profit, rescue organisation cafe so all money made goes back into the welfare of them kitties. Brilliant. This is a great space and much better than the one in Manhattan. I have a major gripe though. They have ridiculous rules about adopting. I went with my friends who were interested in adopting a cat and thought this would be a good place to see what cat they would bond with. They found one and asked about him and were told that any cat under 1 must be adopted with another cat, unless you have another cat at home. This requirement is going to prevent a lot of cats from finding a home. I have had numerous cats over 33 years and I think most people know they are very independent. The woman basically said to them they should just go to a kill shelter because they have no rules. With all the pets out there that need homes and could possibly be euthanized due to overcrowding, is this rule really necessary? I also felt like the woman was just very condescending. read more

I've been to both Koneko and Meow Parlour so it's natural to do a comparison of all three. Haven't been to Little Lions yet, but it's on my list. Brooklyn Cat Cafe is definitely the most homey of the places I've been to. It's a large room of very comfortable sofas and couches, and the cats just roam around. There's a higher number of cats at this place which is definitely a plus. While it lacks some of the stylistic elements of the other cat cafes, the vibe is just plain more relaxing here. However, the other thing that must be said is that because Brooklyn Cat Cafe is in Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill area, that also means there are a lot of children here. Like, A LOT. It would not be a huge stretch to feel as though you ended up at a Kid Cafe instead (now there's an idea). Between the shrill voices and sticky hands and pokey fingers and the tendency of these small humans to bump into everything, you might not get QUITE as much cat playtime as you'd like. And also, the cats generally run away all those things, because small humans, am I right? read more

Definitely going back again! All of the cats were super friendly and wanted your attention. Some will even let you pick them up and hold them! Very calm atmosphere , my dad even said, "i can feel my blood pressure dropping." The cafe was very clean and well kept, and the cats are all loved and taken care of very well. If you are looking to adopt its a perfect place to look, allowing you to have a more personal interaction with a cat instead of being in a cage. It was my first experience at a cat cafe and I loved it!! There were so many kittens and older cats running around. The volunteers are incredibly friendly and even though we only paid for an hour, they said that we were welcomed to stay longer as long as it doesn't get too crowded. They ultimately just want to create a loving, welcoming environment for people to de-stress and just socialize with the beautiful animals they have. Some cats wanted to be interacted with and some just wanted to be by themselves. There is a bucket of cat toys in the corner for you to help engage the cats a little more. I went in the morning right when they allow the public to enter and it was nice and peaceful. Not crowded what so ever. Plenty of cats just waking up and excited to play. Later in the day however, lots of children came and I felt kind of bad for the kittens. There is a rule that you aren't allowed to pick up the cats, you're just kind of supposed to let them come to you. The children were picking up the cats who clearly did not want to be picked up. I think the parents should be mindful of watching their children and following this rule. It's in place so people don't get scratched by unhappy felines and so that the cats don't get stressed out. There's no food here. It's not really a cafe. It's just a place to play with cats that's much cheaper than the ones in Manhattan. I'd return! read more

This is a ton of fun if you like watching other people's children mishandle animals. So Yelp won't post this review until I write more so here, goes.... Bottom line, you come in on a weekend and there will probably be a ton of Brooklyn parents who have brought their children to play with cats. And the kids run roughshod over this place. While I was there one parent who seemed to have quite the "in" with the owners chatted with them and then took a call on FaceTime (so many reasons why that's annoying in and of itself) while her child bullied her way into taking every cat she saw and squeezed it like George in Of Mice and Men. I even saw a very brave young girl tell a staff member about this, and the staff member said basically it was up to the parents to take care of their children. Welp, I can tell you as an adult, if you have an "in" with the place and your kid's the problem, ain't nothin gonna happen. Beyond that, it's just a total mass of chaos of parents and kids chasing cats to play with them. I can't honestly see how this is good for anyone involved. The cats especially. This is really too bad, because I love this idea and wish it could work. But In the end it's a glorified cat petting zoo for the privileged kids of Brooklyn. Not quite a cafe. More of an interactive cat adoption center where you come and play with the many cute cats they have. Fall in love with one of them, they're up for adoption. You'll need to make a reservation for this experience. Once you're allowed inside, it's a $5 donation per person. The staff is great and I would have liked to have been able to play with the cats but it was just way too crowded. The people to cat ratio was not equal. If you come here, don't expect much interaction with the beautiful cats. If you get lucky and it's not too crowded, it's great fun. read more

The owners were lovely and informative about the rules and gentle in their enforcement of them. Visited with my child and it was a great experience. We preferred it to another cat cafe we'd been to. Here there were so many cats, including many playful kittens and adolescents -- there were maybe 30 or more cats there -- and nearly all of them came frequently up to the human visitors to play or be petted or rub on ankles. I suspect this is because our reservation was right when they opened and because the cats know the visitors may feed them treats -- but hey, I'll take it. The cats' friendliness made for a fun experience. The staff were also so friendly and nice and available to help with adoptions. Contrary to another review, the place didn't smell at all; it was a very clean and charming space, with many cat toys and structures for the cats to sit or nap or climb on. I'd definitely recommend going early in the day, when the cats are eager for company and not tired out. IMO this is a brilliant way to help humanfolk fall in love with the right cat & great fun for people like me who want to see kittens and support rescue organizations. The "cafe" has a couple fridges of packaged drinks and snacks, or you can bring in your own from the bagel shop around the corner (which gives 10% proceeds with receipts). We made a reservation online but it wasn't checked at the door, where you fill out a waiver and get a sticker stating your arrival time. It's a $5 minimum donation for each half hour -- if you're like me, half hour isn't enough. Some of the older cats just want to nap in the window, some of the cats will climb right into your laps, and some cats want to be played with (there's toys all around the cafe you can pick up). There's a kitten cam you can view online, also. They're trying to figure out a way to monetize it to support the organization. Please visit if you're thinking about adopting a new cat! read more

Found a new hangout place! This is my first time going to a cat "cafe." Even though this place does not offer coffee or tea, I still had a blast with the little furry friends! Upon entering the establishment, we had to fill out an agreement. They take $5 donation for every 30 minutes from each person, which I think is a pretty reasonable price. After a long day of walking all over DUMBO, we needed somewhere to sit down and rest our feet for a bit. We totally stumbled upon this cat cafe by chance, and I'm so glad we decided to venture in. As previous reviewers have mentioned, it's not quite a cafe like the ones in Manhattan where snacks and refreshments are served, which was fine with me since I never really got food anyway when I went to those. The first thing I noticed immediately was that this place had WAY more cats than the cat cafes I'd been to. I've been to Little Lions and Meow Parlour, and both had around 10, maybe 12 cats max. I think this place had twice as many, not including the kittens in the box. Even with all the cats that were sleeping, there were still more than enough cats that were awake to keep everyone preoccupied on a busy (but not packed) Saturday afternoon. They were all very friendly and approachable. I've been to cat cafes that had at least one grumpy cat that didn't like being touched. I didn't come across a single one here, but as I mentioned there were a bunch that were asleep so it's possible all the ones I pet & played with happened to be the nice ones lol. It seemed like there weren't nearly enough toys for the number of cats that were there, so more toys would have probably been nice. We went several minutes over our 30 minute mark (we got distracted by the one-eyed cat!) and the lady that collected our money said that technically she was supposed to round up to the next half hour, but instead she just charged $15 for the two of us rather than $20. read more

Not only did she make some very accusatory statements about me, she also made so many assumptions about my dog. I can't believe she's still allowed to work there. The women there are THE MOST RUDEST people!! I made a reservation last Thursday and canceled it right away because I accidentally chose the wrong date. On the fine print, it says that if we cancel within 24 hours we can get a full refund. I week in and I still have not heard any word on the refund. LIKE SERIOUSLY? I visited again this week and explained to a woman who seemed to be the manager and explained the whole situation. She said she would figure it out by that day. But it has a been a whole day and STILL NO WORD. So I call the next day and another rude woman starts saying she doesn't know anything and that it's the credit card company at fault. I don't understand why you can refund me the money when clearly I canceled. They literally keep pushing their own responsibilities. As an owner/worker you should be putting customers first. They kept denying the refund and eventually just hung up on me. LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! Refusing all responsibility and even refusing to even talk about it! Well, guess what never coming back here ever again. They are not polite or professional whatsoever. I feel bad for the cats there who are being handled by such rude and imbecile women. I'd rather donate to another organization than pay to visit this store. I think the idea behind the place is nice, a good way to mix a shelter and a place were people can interact with the cats. I agree that the organization is up to the good hearts of the people that volunteer (?) there, we have been there a few times and the turnover is huge, so I figure it is pretty impossible to have something consistent going on. Let's say there is huge space for improvement. Generally the staff is welcoming and talkative, nonetheless we were unlucky enough to meet a very mean and unpleasant lady. Hopefully she is good with the cats because she is terrible with people. Long story short, we started fostering two big and beautiful cats, we realize right away that one of the two is truly miserable, always hiding, barely eating, running away from the other cat, scared of every single sound etc etc, we spend tons of time (a part working hours) with this amazing cat trying to make him feel at home and at ease but the situation doesn't get any better. So we decided, heartbroken, after a week to take the cat back to the cat "cafe'". Again, the choice was a difficult and heavy one, but when we arrived we literally got the door slammed in our face with this lady lecturing us about this and that, as we were two irresponsible imbeciles. I don't question the content of what she said, although I didn't agree with most of it, but I found that her behaviour was brutal, totally out of place and unkind under every point of view. She truly hurt me and she had no write whatsover to do so. I hope that the cat cafe' will take under consideration this bad experience and be careful in the future, we are not talking about an unsatisfied customer complaining about a bad coffee, we are talking about feelings and affection. We will be back to finalize the adoption of our cat, of whom, btw, she didn't even bother asking, but we will be very careful to chose day and time to avoid that person. Bad bad bad experience.
