OMG - my favorite place to eat within like 20 miles! It really feels like a piece of Brooklyn in Putnam County! Great atmosphere, service, and food out of this word! I love their vegan menu! They also have quite wide selection for omnivores, but for me, a vegan, it's a real treat to actually have a choice of real vegan dishes, not just "we can take feta out of your Greek salad to make it vegan". We love to go there for birthdays, Mother's Day and other celebrations. read more

This is a cute place, but I had worried they would be a style over substance restaurant. I'm afraid they are. The food is salty, but good (not great), and I question if the prices really reflect the cost of organic foods. On the up side, if you're vegan it's one of very few places in the area you can eat almost anything! So, go to BOK and enjoy, but drink a lot of water! read more

I honestly was hoping to really like this place. I was excited to see downtown Mahopac have a unique cafe/restaurant. Im not gonna lie, seeing the prices was eye opening prior to going but i figured if the food/service is excellent, i wont mind. We got there at ~11am on a Friday. Not too many people so we figured it wouldnt take too long. We ordered pretty quickly (for 3 adults and one kid). It took about 50 minutes for our food to arrive. We ordered a chicken wrap, burger, crepe and pastrami sandwich. The food was fine but for sandwiches costing $22, i expected it to be better. My sweet potato fries were warm and soft. I understand its a hard time for businesses and i really hope they can improve their service and food for the prices they charge. read more

Went to this adorable, very clean, restaurant today on a whim with a very dear friend. The menu was vast lots of choices (almost too many) but decided on a parfait with granola and chia seeds! It was so delicious! The fruit was fresh the yogurt was flavorful the granola was crunchy and I was really pleasantly surprised for such a basic menu item how delicious it was! And I have to mention the coffee I'm a big coffee drinker but this coffee was really flavorful. I highly recommend this restaurant it is just a wonderful little gem in the heart of Mahopac! read more

Overpriced for relatively small servings. Food is plain for the price. Surprised us at the end with an unexpected 3.5% credit card service charge, which was not well advertised and entirely unexpected for a restaurant in this price range. Given the overpriced plain food, this charge felt like a slap in the face and turned a 2 or 3 star experience in to a 1 star experience. If a restaurant needs to raise prices, they can raise prices on the menu. Or they can prominently advertise additional service charges. Sneaking surprise extra charges on the bill such as a credit card surcharge (which I have never seen in a restaurant in this price range) is not OK. read more

This delicious establishment was super accommodating to vegan and gluten free diners. The breakfast burrito and carrot ginger soup were fantastic. The soup had bits of ginger and was a very generous! The baked goods were fantastic and the lavender latte actually had lavender in it! read more

Plus, if you pay cash, CHECK YOUR BILL...they still charge 3.5% "credit card processing" fee and you have to request to have it removed. read more

Visiting the Brooklyn Organic Kitchen for the first time since I came across them at the Sunday Carmel Farmers Market at Lake Mahopac (9-1). I've had their lobster roll and chicken salad sandwich at the market and both were excellent. I stopped by today to try something for breakfast. I'm sitting at the bar enjoying the lively staff and fun music. I'm drinking a Lavender honey latte which is absolutely delicious. I'm sure my avocado toast will be just as good. read more

Now, I absolutely despise living in Westchester. One of the things that makes it even worse to live here is the chai. Most of the time it just taste like milk with cinnamon, now I enjoy Horchata from time to time but when I order a chai, I expect a chai. Ever since I moved to this wretched place I have been searching for a chai that was at least decent tasting and I have failed... until the day that I visited Brooklyn Organic Kitchen. I took a sip expecting to taste Horchata but what I ended up tasting was heaven. Now, is this the best chai I've had in my life? No. But is this the best chai that I've had in Westchester? Absolutely! If you are a lover of chai and you live in Westchester I recommend going to Brooklyn organic kitchen for the best chai you will have. It is sweet but not too sweet and you can ask to put some espresso in it if you're feeling tired! Whenever I come into Brooklyn Organic kitchen the staff is very nice and respectful and it's a great atmosphere. The only downside is that it is fairly pricey. But in my opinion it is 100% worth it. I sooooo wanted to love this place, but unfortunately I was disappointed on our first visit. I dined in on Sunday with my children, it's a beautiful space, clean and staff was friendly. The restaurant was pretty busy, so we expected a bit of a delay in receiving our order but it took almost 45 minutes to get our food. And with little ones it seemed like an eternity. Avocado toast was good nothing crazy, Cinnamon raisin French toast was TERRIBLE!! It was sooo thin and completely burned on one side (we had 2 orders, and both were burned) my kids would not eat them. I should've returned them but we were so tired of waiting. I ordered the egg breakfast sandwich with chicken sausage. I was told the egg would be over medium. But it was a an over cooked fried egg, with enough chicken sausage to cover one bite. None of the dishes came with home fries or such. I will not return for food, maybe will pick up some drinks to go one day. read more

Good food, TERRIBLE service. I've been here a few times and the food is good. For a coffee shop, I really don't mind below average service but today was something else. Even on bad service alone I usually wouldn't give a bad review but... To add insult to the terrible service, when I went to pay for my food and order a latte to go, the woman told me I shouldn't be drinking caffeine because I am pregnant and suggested I get decaf and proceeded to give me a hard time when I canceled my coffee. My husband and I stopped by for a midday meal on Sunday. Inside tables were mostly full, but we wanted to be outside, where there were 4 tables in use. We were shown to our table right away, and then waited ten minutes before we were greeted by our waitress. Ten more before our drinks came (water and one cup of iced tea). We ordered lunch - at this point it was around noon - and several minutes later the waitress came out and told us lunch wasn't being served because breakfast was backed up. Understandable, but why wait almost ten minutes to tell us that? We ordered breakfast (it took the waitress three tries to remember what we ordered - she didn't write it down even after she was clearly struggling) which was delicious, but 30 minutes after we got there? Just to order? And we weren't the only ones. Lots of heads shaking in disbelief. At one point there were 4 servers outside. Don't know what they were doing, but clearly not attending to the customers. We had to track them down for things we needed, like salt and pepper. Only one waitress - not ours - came by to apologize to different tables - for the delay, for overcharging and for not having utensils and condiments brought out with the food. The staff were fairly pleasant, I guess, but with the exception of the one, just not into what they were doing; taking their sweet time with whatever was keeping them busy. It was over an hour from start to finish - one cup of tea, one omelette and one egg sandwich. It's a good thing my husband and I like each other! We made the most of our waiting time enjoying each other's company as well as the glorious weather. I'm in the area at least 5 days a week and was hoping this would be a good lunch stop for me going forward. I really wanted to like this place. It has a lot to offer, but I don't have the time or patience to try again. read more

Ick, blech, and yuck. A friend of mine & I went when they first opened. I ordered a decaf Chai, and the person behind the counter proceeded to have an argument with one of their coworkers about whether or not chai was naturally decaffeinated. My friend got a Fruit Tart, which was okay, but not tart- it was filled with Cannoli cream. I decided to give the place a second chance the other day, because I was in the mood for something sweet and snack-ey, which I can't get at the Freight House.
