There appears to be two different listing for this same restaurant, so I've decided to post this to both...The Google map is wrong, so use your GPS...This place is in a small shopping center off Seven Locks Road, North of Montrose Rd. We've been looking for a 'local' restaurant to frequent that isn't part of a national chain or that services cardboard food...We have found it at the Potomac Woods location of Brooklyn's Deli and Catering. We've visited this location several times in recent weeks, for breakfast and lunch, and have been very pleased with each visit. The staff, even on the busiest day, are always upbeat and smiling. The food is served 'hot' (or cold) and prepared as promised. The dining room isnt a typical 'deli' decor (it's a little more upscale)...Other than the busy tables, it's uncluttered which is a refreshing change that allows you to actually carry on a conversation and not feel anxious to get out. There's an outdoor area where you can eat as well. For a 'deli' the prices are a little high, but overall we think it's worth it for the overall experience. This location has a much nicer atmosphere, staff and food quality than the Darnestown location...Would recommend this location to anyone looking for a family-style, local restaurant where you can feel at home read more

Sorry to write a bad review but as a person who was born in Brooklyn, this deli has nothing to do with NYC in any shape or form. I guarantee you the prices are cheaper in NYC and Long Island at any good deli, and I'm sure the food prep people wear gloves there. My stomach still hurts today. Yuck. read more

My wife and I frequent the Brooklyn Deli in Potomac/Rockville two or three times per month. We wind up getting their 1/2 sandwich because the full sandwiches are too much for us. They put about one half pound of meat on the regular sandwiches. We have had good and friendly service the majority of the time. Just ate there last night and complimented our server about her friendliness even at the end of a busy day. Gave her a nice tip, too. The food is not inexpensive, but we have found it uniformly good. Soups, sandwiches and salads have all been a cut above ordinary sandwich places. We used to live in the NJ/NY metro area and agree with some posters that the hard core NY delis would surpass BD. But, its a solid place to go for a fine sandwich and other deli items. Even at their somewhat higher prices, we feel that we receive good value. read more

The online version of the menu doesn't have this statement, "$1 extra for lean meat" but the menus on-site do. Should have been a big clue... We went there because of the outdoor seating, which is nice. We ordered and were brought pickles as we waited. Two were crisp and green without a lot of flavor. a Third was discolored, soft, and oddly flavored. No explanation for the difference... I ordered the reuben sandwich for $13.99 (I did not order the $1 upgrade for the lean meat). It does not come with any sides. I also ordered the onion rings - 6 is a serving. Service was quick. I bit into my sandwich and thought the first bite was okay. Bread was soggy though. My second bite was super chewy. Something wasn't right. I opened up my sandwich and I was shocked to find that over half of the sandwich consisted of wide and thick slices of END FAT. Not the marbly kind of meat with fat through it that you are thinking, and not even like bacon; this was SOLID FAT, not a scrap of actual pink meat on an entire slice. Un-rendered, slimy, thick fat. Completely something that should have been tossed in the trash! Yet, not only did they serve me this... when I showed the server, she took it back to the kitchen only to return and explain that "there's nothing they can do about it since I didn't order the lean meat." So, I was charged 13.99 for a "fat sandwich." Do yourself a favor and don't go. This is no bargain basement restaurant at $14 a sandwich (no sides or chips included). Brooklyn's: Firstly, why not just charge an extra dollar and serve everyone something you can be proud of? You can always keep your fat sandwich on the menu in case some customer might actually want it. Just label it correctly. Not planning a return visit, but if you decide to go, do yourself a favor and pay the extra $1. read more

Well I was looking for a new deli that made a killer pastrami sandwich and this place isn't it. I took two bites of the sandwich and spit it out. It was full of fat and was truly gross. I'm gonna crush this place... granted I walked in at 3PM... not necessarily peak hours, there was a mix of about 5 people standing in the immediate area. I wasn't sure where I was supposed to go to be greeted or order to pick up a sandwich. As I stood there, figuring this out, an older gentleman bumped into me to the point that it swung me around. As I looked over, he didn't miss a beat to apologize or say excuse me. As I stared him down in disgust, I realized that he was an employee there, quiet possibly a manager by what I gauge in observation. Finally I walked up to the register where an employee was counting money. The guy didn't say anything to me for close to a minute, in which case I began to walk out and just leave. Finally he asked if he could help me. Couldn't he have told me to hold on a moment? As I waited for my sandwich, I decided to use the restroom, as I walked past the wait station it smelled awful... too late I had paid. The sandwich was mediocre at best, but $12.50. I am from the NY/NJ area, so I have high standards being brought up on Carnegie Deli monsters for the past 20 years, but this was a joke. Went in today around 2pm for lunch. While food and server were decent, one of the workers (not sure of his role) decided to turn a channel on the TVs. Patrons were watching a movie. There were two tables with people eating. He was so rude, that we nor the other customers will be back. Over a TV channel really!!! His customer service skills need major work!! read more

This place has consistently horrid service, and is just as poorly managed. Sometimes service is disinterested, but often just plain mean. Comments about "trying to act like they are in NY" are spot on (although the service in NY isn't bad, just curt- here it is both). The food is generally passable, but is often sloppy. It is also so expensive- just a plain sandwich is 11 or 12 dollars, no sides, average size. There is certainly better deli to be had in the area. The last experience which prompted this review was particularly horrendous. I recieved a sandwich where the bread had literally disintegrated on the bottom, presumably from sitting in the window too long. I pointed it out to the server, who for a change seemed to care. He told me he would take it off the check. The kitchen manager then came out, rudely questioned me, told me that of course that type of bread would fall apart (keep in mind- this was not a special order, this was a sandwich straight off the menu), acted like I was stupid, and left. The server came later to me and asked if I could speak with the manager, who was refusing to take the sandwich off the check (this was a big order, the sandwich was a drop in the bucket). The manager decided it would be a good idea to stand in the kitchen window, 10 feet from me, and argue with the server openly, some of his comments personally insulting to me. If the owner is reading: fire this manager immediately- he is a liability. Finally another manager came by and told me he would take care of the sandwich. Over a sandwich! This will be the last time I go to Brooklyns. There are other, better delis for me to take my business to! read more

Brooklyn's has always had GREAT food but the service at the Potomac Woods location had been a concern. Over the past year or so I have noticed a significant improvement in the service. The staff is now pretty stable, like it was at the old joint in Travliia, and is consistently very good. Couple that with the always amazing sandwiches and you are in for a treat rarely found in the DC area. Straight Corned Beef on rye is always a winner but I also love The DeLozier. You are going to have to trust me on this since it sounds odd but it's delicious. It's hot turkey, gilled peperoni and melted provolone on a sub roll. They then take the au jus from the homemade brisket and pour it on the turkey giving it more of a beefy/salty quality. They then add a couple onions and some hot peppers which adds a very enjoyable sensation to the palate. If you are not a hot pepper fan get them on the side and try, I don't think you will be disappointed. Lastly they put some russian dressing on the bun to add the perfect topper. Last time I was there I checked SOME of the menus - some did not have it listed and some did. I think they are making it more of a special. Anyway- you may have to order if "off-menu" but they are happy to make it for you. Add some fries, pickles and a soda and you have a killer meal! read more

I too, first liked this place years ago in Rockville, and am also an ex-NYer, and although I've never been to Katz's, on LI there was a true Kosher deli (no cheese on your meat sandwich- unthinkable) on almost every corner, so I think I know a good pastrami sandwich when I have it - and this one (Esther's delight) is pretty good. Meat's a little greasy, but that's to be expected; delicious, fall apart tender, piled high on fresh (also fall-apart, would have been better toasted or grilled) pumpernickel, with creamy coleslaw and Russian dressing. One bite and I was in heaven. If that's all I had, this review would be a 4 easy. BUT, NO ... please, whatever you do, stay away from the latkes!! Deep fried tasteless thick hockey pucks, not even close to the real potato (with a grate of onion) pan-fried thin ones, or even what comes out of a Manischevitz box! I've also had the matzoh ball soup (cool tilted bowl), and stuffed cabbage (billed 'like my own bubbie used to make')- both passable, but I've had much better. The free sour and half-sour pickles are nice when offered during lunch or dinner. All in all, a notch above Woodside in Germantown (where I was once served a COLD, as in NOT grilled, awful pastrami sandwich), which isn't saying much. Parking is challenged, but this is a cool place to people watch though. read more

If you're going to sell a $13 reuben, you'd better be ready to blow my mind. Unfortunately, the reuben was almost completely lacking in flavor, with bland (but very moist) corned beef, stale-tasting sauerkraut, and not enough dressing. It wasn't altogether bad, but it wasn't nearly good enough to be worthy of the price tag or the calorie count. sandwiches are WAY overpriced for what you get- a $13 sandwich should be enough for two meals, but it didn't even fill me up, and I weigh 160 lbs soaking wet!!! I ordered a pastrami reuben to go and when I got home- surprise... it was a half turkey, half corned beef! the place is not busy enough to get a sandwich order wrong! I live nearby and really wanted to love this place. I am almost always disappointed. Service is not good, have to wait longer than you should for basic food. Hash browns too greasy, turkey sandwich too dry, poor wine and beer choices, plates too boring and prices too high. Also it is quite loud. With other good restaurants in the area, this place has a lot of work to do to keep up. Not worth it unless you want a good bagel--before they run out of the good ones, that is. read more

Well where do I begin: food was expensive service was basic. We were rushed, and the waitress ignorder us. Worst of all we waited patiently for 15 minutes to be seated. When we were finished, the waitress asked us to leave because another group was waiting. When we hesitated, she was persistent. We felt uncomfortable and left . She claimed her manager made her do it, there were other open tables ,but she wanted this one for a party of six. All during the meal, they were rushing us and forgot our orders. Although it was lunch time, I wanted a breakfast sandwich. I ordered an egg sandwich with ham and cheese ($4.99). What I was served was a ham and cheese ($10.99). I hate to waste food, so I told the waitress about the wrong order, but ate the sandwich that was served. It was a good sandwich, but I don't think that I should have been charged the $10.99 for their mistake. After being a customer for years, we went for brunch this morning. After waiting 10 minutes for a wait person we finally were helped. To make a long story short. There were three hairs in my daughters pancakes, my wife's omellette was undercooked. I asked to speak to the manager, he was too busy to come over and see me. I have just moved here from NYC and I was told if I went to this diner I would not ever miss the Big Apple. I ordered a pastrami on rye and it was horrible. The bread was not fresh but the pastrami was very dry and flaky like it had been put in an oven. The place was so noisy you could not have a conversation. Went to buy lunch yesterday and gave my order to the deli. After waiting 20 minutes with nobody in line, I was finally getting service. I wanted to order egg salad, but they did not have enough, and offered me a small quantity with with hair in it. I also wanted to order fresh sliced bologna, but they wanted to sell me already pre-wrapped meat they found under the counter from god knows when. They had no corn beef cut yet, and no rye bread sliced. ( Terrible ) I called my wife to tell her I am leaving and a man behind the counter said to me "do not talk in front of the other customers" . I did not answer him, and left the store. This is the third time I tried to get good food and good service, and will be the last . None of the workers had gloves on, and all they wanted to do is ring up customers at the register. This popular and crowded restaurant gives you exactly what you'd expect in a Jewish delicatessen unless you're expecting kosher. It is crowded, as in cheek-by-jowl, and noisy at lunch and at weekend breakfast time. You can expect a line at peak hours--and there's not a lot of space for waiting. Take out is available and there are s few things that can be bought separately but this is not a full-service deli. And it's certainly not a place for anyone on a salt-free diet. This place always draws a crowd. I think the food is excellent, and I enjoy seeing my old heros, like Dodger Duke Snider, on the walls. went there 2 weeks ago on a Sat. The place was packed. Live close by and thought to check out the place and support local business. The place is cute and compact. A bit tight. Now, the good. Ordered chicken noodle soup. Good portion. Excellent home made chicken flavor. A bit salty. Now the bad, which unfortunately was plenty. The service was horrible. Our waitress did not bother to ck on us once during the whole meal. Did not refill our water and soda even though we stick the empty glasses out for her to see. She was nice but just a terrible server. I ordered Philly cheese steak with mushroom and wiz. First they forgot the mushroom. Second, they ran out of the hoagie bread so I got the kaiser roll instead. Horrible!! The bread crust was hard, stale, chalky, and just plain uneatable. I ended up eating the inside only. The bread was at least 2-3 days old. They should not serve such sub-quality product. The other ham sandwich we ordered was like something you make at home and they charge $10 for it. Hope they will improve their quality otherwise the picky eaters of Rockville and Potomac will stop going and the place will close.... read more

Food is barely average. We were lured here by all-day breakfast. Toast, bacon, eggs, hash browns all low quality. (I buy higher quality bread and bacon at Giant for my own at-home breakfast!) Too bad, because we liked the atmosphere, and the service was good. You'll get a better breakfast, though, at Denny's or Silver Diner -- actually, much better food can be found at those chain restaurants than at this deli. read more
