Our order got lost in the kitchen's wheel, over 30 min. later the waitress came to apologize and took our order. I refused to order, asked for a plate to go to the salad bar. She brought me cornbread and didn't charge for my kids meals. I appreciate the gesture, but when you're super hungry, you just want to eat that second. I decided to go out for a good dinner this evening so we went to Brooks Ranch here in Atwater. I usually have fish but I thought I would try their rib eye, BIG MISTAKE! It was horrible. stingy, full of gristle . It was not a ribeye! I could taste that it had been cooked on a dirty grill because some of the end pieces were burnt and had an awful taste. The baked potato was also crappy, dried out and seemed old. The waitress forgot which salad dressig I wanted , it took 4 requests to get our utensils, napkins,salad, iced tea. She forgot to ask how I wanted my steak cooked. Not that it mattered, it was lousy anyway. I will never eat there ! again read more

First time here trying a local restaurant. Customer service was great! I ordered breakfast for dinner. I ordered my hash browns extra crispy they weren't. My husband had steak and shrimp the shrimp looked a couple days old and maybe warmed up in the toaster oven. He said very dry and way over done. Unfortunately we will not be back. This place is awesome. Great food, great customer service and everything is fairly priced. I love the salad bar, and I usually get their delicious corn bread with honey as a side to my salad. The environment is really nice too! I even had my sons 5th birthday here, and it went great. They helped with the cake and everything. Lovely place. I've been coming to this restaurant ever since I was about 2 years old, and am happy to say that in over 25 years; their excellent quality and customer service has remained consistent. I think that I have had almost everything on their menu, but always seem to return to the skillets, they are reasonably priced and provide you with plenty of food for 1-2 people. If you come here for a skillet meal, I suggest trying the Portuguese skillet, it has everything you could possibly want for breakfast (eggs, potatoes, linguicia, bell peppers, onions, cheddar cheese, and biscuits with gravy on the side). Maybe skillets aren't your thing, that's perfectly ok, they have at least 40 other menu items that will satisfy even the most finicky of palates, go ahead and grab yourself a Bagel with Eggs or a prime rib breakfast. read more

For those familiar with the chains, this place reminds me of a cross between Marie Callendar's and Sizzler's. The menu includes simple and traditional American favorites, and there's options to add salad bar or get a slice of homemade pie for dessert. This was my first full meal the night I arrived in Atwater, and I've gone back with colleagues a couple of times since. My favorite part, hands down, is the salad bar. It's refreshingly clean and well chilled, the greens are crisp, nothing looks like it's oxidizing from sitting out too long. Of course some of the items were probably canned or frozen, but I'm not going to complain about not getting fresh garbanzo beans or corn. Food is so-so. Atmosphere is similar to a Denny's but caters more to senior citizens. I had lunch with my mother there. She ordered a senior lunch and had a glass of water. I had a sandwich and a cup of coffee. The senior lunches include a beverage. When I went to pay the bill, I asked that the coffee be deducted. The waitress was summoned and said that "technically, my mother wasn't the one that drank the coffee so they wouldn't deduct it from the bill". I thought this was absurd and showed poor customer service. read more

Then helped a guest at the cash register with her bare hands & handled money then walked back and plucked the toast out with bare hands & buttered it. What in the actual F***!? Food was not cooked all the way, cold meat that tasted disgusting, coffee was cold, potatoes weren't cooked. We will never be returning here again. I don't know how this place is standing. Went here for dinner last nite. I had the chicken cordon blue & my husband ordered the meatloaf. The clam chowder we both started with was not bad. We decided not to have the salad bar as it looked pretty scimpy. Our entree came and I had one bite of the chicken cordon blue. It was so bad I couldn't eat any more of it. There was this goo that was running out of it and the outside looked like it had been overcooked yet the inside was like it was not completely heated from the microwave. Vegetables tasted like they were old (cooked baby carrots & corn). My husband said his meatloaf was terrible! It has been a really long time since we have been to a place where the food was this BAD! This place makes Denny's look good! We depend on yelp to find good resturants while we're on the road instead of just your standard chain places. My boyfriend and I went in a while back with a gift card/coupon from restaurants.com. It was essentially, spend 25 dollars, get 25 dollars free. So half off of fifty bucks. I have used this coupon at other restaurants and never had an issue. The waitress told me that it was fake and I couldn't use it. I showed her the e-mail, purchase receipt, and the website. Finally she got the owner. The owner said, "well most of them are fake so it isn't her fault." We paid for our sodas and left. I understand skepticism if it is a coupon that you are unfamiliar with, but don't imply that the customer is a liar, and when your employee does that, apologize on their behalf! We've never been back. The only reason this is a two star is because I have eaten breakfast there a couple times a couple years back and the food was delicious. A little pricey though. read more

Worst meal ever, will never go back. I ordered the wild salmon fettuccini Alfredo and it tasted like cat food & noodles. The salmon was dry and brittle and just plain awful. I obviously did not eat my meal, nor did my daughter, and the waitress didn't even question it when she cleared the food filled plates from our table and delivered the check. I wanted to like this place, but Ya... That optimism was met with a hard reality today. Not sure if they serve something else that may be tasty but I'm not willing to give them a chance.
