We were hanging out with some friends and they were raving about Fosters Freeze and their banana milkshake, and I knew I had to make it to give a try myself. I haven't been to a Fosters in forever, so didn't really know what to expect and had no expectations. I ended up ordering a double burger, fries, and banana milkshake. My girlfriend got the dipped chocolate cone. I thought the burger was just alright. It definitely needed some salt and/or pepper. The fries were solid though. The star of the show was definitely the banana milkshake. Great banana flavor and perfect for a warm day treat. The dipped cone, I wasn't as much of a fan of. The soft serve was more yellow than white and it didn't hold it's shape all that well. Good but you have to eat it immediately. I went into foster freeze today and ordered my usual tenders with the fries, I come back to my car and check my meal to see if they got it right they only put five fries in my tender combo no big deal so I went back and ask the lady to see if I could get more fries because that was ridiculous and homegirl talking about some "oh we always serve them like this". I love the food here! My family and I have been going for a long time and always have good service. We love ordering the fries, burritos and ice cream. Is on the pricey side but delicious :) Ice cream sundae is always perfect with plenty of fudge and whip cream on top. Milkshakes are always delicious. The service has always been friendly and prompt. The ambiance is kinda hustle and bustle with a few seating options outside and a small indoor seating area. Disappointed in the establishment not having marinara sauce for the mozzarella sticks. And the fried zucchini sticks were very unsatisfactory. My family went to this place for dinner this evening and I will tell you this, as a former prep and line cook, I would not give this place the time of day for another one of their burgers. When I was taught by my head chef at the restaurant that I used to work at, he taught me the number one rule of cooking food, "if you won't eat it, don't expect anyone else to eat it either". Well to be blatantly honest here, I wouldn't feed the dry burgers from this place to my dog. I used to frequent this restaurant in my younger days but unfortunately it has changed hands and has gone downhill. Even most of my friends quit eating here since it last changed hands. Yes I used to be in the food service industry, but my health has declined so I had no other choice but to quit food service altogether except in a food tasting capacity. I've been to Foster's up and down the state of California and none of them have soft serve as good as this location. I don't know what their secret is but the ice cream comes out golden hued, texturally balanced between crystalized & creamy all while remaining dreamily delicious. It is the location by which all others are judged and found wanting. This place tastes like childhood. Atwater has seen better days as the increasingly dilapidated road that leads you here can attest. This place is always very nostalgic for me, it hasn't changed in years and does a good job in maintaining the classic experience. As time goes on the prices keep going up and up but the quality of food keeps going down. I would give a 0 star but due to the fact I never placed an order due to poor customer service. The establishment has a posting to form a line in one direction and if someone is arguing with employees over incorrect change amounts other employees hop on a register to help people hovering around the pickup window instead of people in line. Possibly due to the reason the customer is hitting on the employee instead of helping the customers waiting in the 105 degree temperature to order. Someone should keep an eye on the people in line instead of just helping people cutting in line. This is the last time I ever spend any of my hard earned money at this establishment and I will not recommend this place to anybody I come across. read more
