Talk about a hidden gem! The Grove is one of those places that if you know, you know! It's out in the middle of nowhere and can be found a good 3/4 mile from the initial entrance from the road. It's nestled behind acres and acres of beautiful trees, but well worth the drive! They have a lovely outdoor area perfect for watching the sunset and gazing into the lush greenery that surrounds the restaurant. We sat inside and the decor gave a homey, almost hole-in-the-wall vibe. There's nothing particularly fancy about the interior of the restaurant, but every member of the staff makes you feel like a guest at their table. We started off with a cold bottle of sauvignon blanc and tried a few appetizers: the bruschetta, mac and cheese, and steak bites. Everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection! Steaks are their specialty at The Grove and are procured from a local cattle rancher. Each piece is specially hand-cut. My husband and I each had the ribeye special and it didn't disappoint. The portions were huge and we could have easily shared a plate. Their menu overall is extensive and has something for everyone - lamb, steak, chicken, fish. 3 1/2 stars based on our experience on a crowded Saturday night with a live band playing. First, let me give praise to our waiter. He was doing his best serving many patrons. All four of us ordered burgers. I watched our waiter punch in our orders on his hand held device and he repeated our orders back to us, so I know the kitchen got them correctly. After a 30+ wait, they all came out cooked incorrectly to our order and all with onion, tomato, and lettuce on the side. All of us ordered them cooked medium or medium rare with no onion or tomato. We received them all well done with tomato and onion on the side. Why even ask what toppings people want if you are putting them on the side anyway? Having four people throw away all tomatoes and onions is unnecessarily losing money for the business. The burgers being cooked too long made them dry and affected the meat's taste for sure. I understand it was a packed house and maybe the food would be better prepared on a slower night, but we were disappointed with our food experience on this night. I make it a point when visiting my family in Atwater to at have dinner at The Grove. The restaurant is out in the middle of nowhere but it's worth the drive. All meats are bbq'd on the Egg Grill right outside the kitchen. Never had a bad meal or a ok meal. Food has always been Excellent & the Service Fantastic. Steaks, Rack of Lamb, Salmon, Shrimp & Burgers have as always been tender, juicy & Delicious. You won't be disappointed with their Portions or prices either.They even have Pizzas that will rival any pizza house you have tried. You will definitely enjoy your cocktails, no light pours in this establishment. It's has a very casual atmosphere & kid friendly along with easy access if you have a disability. Ok I'm so glad we didn't give up searching for this spot! If you follow Apple Maps it leads you to an orchard, we were confused and turned around, pulled into someone's private home, then tried again and ended up driving though the orchard thinking it must just be hidden. Thank god for jeeps that can go anywhere! Also, sorry to orchard owners for accidentally driving though your property. Other side of the orchard we found a street and turned left to find a small building with the correct address numbers! Yay! Except that it looked abandoned and we figured Yelp was out of date, so we decided to look up another spot. While doing that, we saw a car pull up, turns out it's the owner of the property, who often gets people looking for something that used to be there. We told her we were looking for a restaurant and she said "oh you're almost there!" Turns out if we had made a right on the road we ended up on we'd have found it. Anyway, don't use Apple Maps! Now on to the actual spot- we walked in and were greeted by a very friendly bartender/waitress, I believe her name is Samantha, but I was STARVING when she introduced herself so don't quote me on that. She took our drinks order and we checked out the menu. We ended up getting the jalapeño poppers and Oh! My! Baby! Jesus!!!! I'd come back just for those! The French onion soup was delish as well. Hubby & I went on a Saturday night and even though they were really busy, the meal we received at the end was worth the long wait. We ordered the Tomahawk steak with Lobster Tail, garlic mashed potatoes & rice. We shared our meal and it was flavorful & filling for both of us. Our steak was well done and so juicy and tender. It was one of the best steak & lobster meals we have ever experienced. Compliments to the Chef! The restaurant atmosphere is more for outdoor dining. The only thing I disliked was all the mosquito bites I had at the end of the night. Recommend taking some mosquito repellent, peppermint oil, or even mosquito repellent candles to enjoy your meal more comfortably. The customer service was friendly and our server Sarah was awesome! Loved how we were able to take a nice big bone to our 3 Pups. They devoured it the same night! Highly recommend giving this restaurant a try. Found this place on Yelp and it was nearby so we decided to give it a try. It's in the middle of the country hidden behind some trees... so it's not noticeable from the road. The restaurant itself is actually in a modular which was different so at first we thought we were at the wrong place. It's small inside... also has a full bar. We were seated quickly but it took awhile for our order to get taken. Our food took about an hour to get to our table. We ordered jambalaya and ribs. I wish I can say we loved it. My husband's ribs were not tender and had a lot of gristle so he wasn't impressed. My jambalaya? Inedible. It was soooooo hot ( spicy hot) I couldn't even eat it. Not sure what the cook was thinking but for $28 u should at least be able to enjoy it. The waitress asked if I wanted to take my leftovers and I told her no because I couldn't even eat it. She apologized and told me she had heard that many times and I told me she would have to cook remake it for me. I was reluctant, but I went ahead and agreed. They boxed it up for me to take home. When I got home, out of curiosity, I said let me just take a quick bite and see if it's any better. It wasn't. If this dish is in my edible to most patrons, it needs to be removed from the menu. We will not be returning. Not sure how they got four stars. The two stars were for them trying to remedy the situation. read more

"Hidden gem" is the perfect way to describe this place. It was a bit of a detour to get out there, but it was definitely well worth it! They literally had something for everyone! One kid wanted mac and cheese, and they brought out the gooiest (is that a word? lol), cheesiest mac n cheese ever. Another kid wanted pizza, and you can tell they make their own crust. The real star is the steak! The menu said it would be topped with blue cheese, but ours didn't have any. It worked out tho, cuz the steak was delicious without it! It was cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly and our family devoured every bite. The baked potato has perfectly crispy skin, and the veggies were cooked in some amazing sauce! Servers were working their butts off taking care of so many customers. I appreciated that they took extra good care of my kids. They actually listened to my kids' requests and checked in on them often. We are barely ever in this area, but we will make it a point to come back and bring others too! read more

Sad to say, as our previous dinners were good, but tonight was a disaster. The flies in the dining area were Abundant, to say it as kindly as possible. Unacceptable My salad arrived one half hour after ordering. My husbands salad came 15 minutes later We ordered steaks, medium rare. Mine was cooked correctly, my husbands was lukewarm and his mashed potatoes were lukewarm. We asked for the plate to be warm up. I had already finished my dinner when his warmed up meal arrived. I ordered the 2 pork chop dinner and received one unidentified piece of meat i couldn't even cut. Hubby ordered new York strip and received nothing even close. Great customer service and food. I always like to know what the customer services is like and how they react,many times it is a business sort but this one leave little inhibition. It feels like a family service or homey feeling service. I will say the steak does taste a bit like rubber, but that can be attributed to the grill so all in all, it was great. I will say however that if you are a student on a budget. This place might not be the best place for you, if only because the food cost more than average but I will say it is worth it as a once in a while get together or reunion of sorts.
