I've waited many months to leave this review in the hope that it wouldn't be necessary. Our family has worked with Peter and his wife and business partner Kimi in the past. We connected with their son Chad last summer after he took over the family business. Chad and his team came through and did a bunch of work for us over eight days, and for the most part they did it well. The tree removal work was really excellent (and they did a lot of that). The pruning was more aggressive than I would have liked - they stripped my oaks pretty bare, not in a way that did long term harm but in a way that other arborists have commented on negatively and that have left the oaks much less beautiful than they were. Also, and even more importantly, Chad bailed out before completing the project and stopped returning our calls, texts, and emails once he had his check. The work had two phases - the main phase, on our property, and the smaller but most important phase - the light pruning of a neighbor's towering oak, which over 15 years has now almost completely obscured our once-stunning view of Mt. Tam. We made clear to Chad up front that the view restoration was the main reason for the job and the goal that most of the other work was pointing towards. We connected Chad with the neighbors and, though his follow-through was slow, he told us that he'd had positive communications with the neighbors and that they seemed open to the pruning. When the on-site work was finished, it became impossible to reach Chad. We called, texted, and emailed him many times about the view issue and got no reply until 4 months later, when he sent us the final bill for the job. Having had experience with his lack of follow-through, we said we'd prefer to hold off on payment until the view restoration was completed. Chad replied that it would be "silly" to hold up payment over what would be no more than "a couple hours" of work. He said he would comp the work in order to be paid sooner. We should've trusted our gut. You can probably guess the rest of the story. Months of calls, texts, emails, and NADA. Like a bad boyfriend, Chad GHOSTED entirely, leaving our bank account many thousands smaller and our home a room with no view. We really liked Chad personally and gave him so many chances to make things right, and he just dropped the ball and stopped communicating entirely. Chad and his his parents (Peter and Kimi) are kind and lovely people, and it makes me sad to have to write this review, but people should learn from our mistake and not confuse friendliness with professionalism. While on the job, Chad was friendly, ingratiating, and attentive, but once he was off site, he was gone. My advice is be sure he completes EVERYTHING you agree to before you pay your final bill. I hope that he will grow into this job and learn to do better. I really believed that he had that capacity. read more

Rescued! During a recent storm, Kimi, Chad and their team rescued my elderly parents from a huge oak that fell that blocked the entrances to their house. Chad came by within a few hours to clear a safe path and then his crew came the next day to remove the oak. Kimi even offered to bring my parents groceries. So kind, efficient and reasonably priced. Last week Brooks Tree Care spent three days trimming extremely overgrown Monterey Cyprus trees around our house. Their crew was excellent in every way. Many of the large branches were hanging precariously over the house and electric lines. They knew exactly what to do. Not one branch fell in the wrong place. This is the third time we've used this company since 2014; they've always been excellent. Peter really knows his trees, and he came to the job site on the second day to make sure everything was being done correctly. Called many times for an estimate, and kept being told it would happen tomorrow and they would call me back. After multiple attempts, it never happened. For some pruning, I gave them another chance and this time set an appointment at their chosen time. They no-called/no-showed, and when I called said they could be there in an hour. I told them don't bother. I later got a call from the owner, followed by a text where he said he went by and offered to do the work for free to make up for it. I reluctantly accepted. I later got a text saying that the work was partially done, but it was more than he originally thought and asked for $220 to complete the work. It felt a little like a bait and switch, but I agreed. When the bill arrived, I was surprised to see it was for $2200. When I contacted them, he asked me how I thought he was going to do the work he did for $220? Needless to say, every dealing with them was not positive. The tree work was done professionally, but I certainly would not recommend them, and won't be using them in the future. read more

This is a review about the people. I met Peter Brooks today and saw his crew finishing up a job near my home. He is completely unlike the personality the one star review portrays; rather, he's friendly, generous, and listens well. His crew at the end of the day was still going strong, which indicated to me that he employs motivated workers. They did their job quickly and efficiently (I live close enough to hear everything.) What I noticed that's important is that the cut logs didn't touch any of the fencing around the customer's property. It was carefully placed after the cutting was done to insure that there was no damage. I am already committed to the tree service I've been using, but if ever decide otherwise, Brooks Tree Care is the company I'll be calling. read more

I got the name of Brooks from my realtor - I had just bought a house with gorgeous potential views but several big trees blocking them. Peter came in with a VERY reasonable estimate and along with that, I could tell he was passionate about what he did (he is truly a TREE guy and can tell you the name of every tree) and obviously an honest guy to boot. I was considering some major work in chopping down several big trees and while that would have meant a very big and lucrative job for him, he explained to me the benefits of NOT doing that and just trimming them (e.g. helping with erosion). I mentioned how I would love to have a pear tree and he went out and bought me a pear tree and planted it in a perfect place. Also, he actually cared about aesthetics - I've heard most tree guys just chop off the trees in whatever way is easiest, but his guys wanted to make sure I wouldn't have to look at ugly tree tops and did a great job shaping the tree nicely. His team was highly professional, cleaned everything up and were really nice. Peter is in this for the long term relationship and will go above and beyond (vs. the bare minimum) to deliver even more than what you're paying him to do. I highly recommend!!! read more

Kimberly who answered my call and booked my appointment was very helpful and courteous relative to getting Peter Brooks out to my home. Peter arrived on Monday, May 12th, walked property with me and explained in detail what was needed for my hedges, trees, and shrubs in the garden. Peter followed up with his quote and offered to have a crew to our home on Friday, May 16th, which I immediately scheduled. The crew was careful working within our well established garden and did a great job. After all the trimming, they cleaned up and left our place including the sidewalks clear of any debris.
