Natalie and Jim have taken care of our trees for years, even before we owned our home. We have a humongous Cypress in our yard, and there have been several times that branches came down in storms. Small World Tree has always come right away to help us, no matter how busy they are. Not only do they do excellent work and know how to properly care for big old trees, but they've always cleaned up all the debris in our yard, even the stuff that was there before their work. This company came to my house and promised to follow up with an estimate for pruning and "diagnostic" treatment for a particular Oak Tree. The representative, charged me $75.00 for the diagnostic visit and I never heard from her again. No estimate for pruning was ever sent. No further Oak Tree treatment was further proposed. After receiving an estimate for a tree removal and being ready to move forward, Small World Tree Co has not returned my calls nor scheduled the work, putting me at a standstill with the project. Then, when they were aggressively trimming branches next door to me, they allowed the big branches to fall in my yard on a newly established garden, ruining the plants and effort. I contacted The Small World Tree Company, they came out the day I called, within 24 hours I had the estimate. They gave me a reasonable estimate for the scope of work to be done. We used this tree company to trim trees on our HOA property. I would not recommend them because I believe they are dishonest. Jim told me that he believed the way we were topping the trees was not the best approach for the health of the trees but was doing it because he was told to by our property management company. Then, when the property manager was there with us, he lied and said he didn't say that. When I approached his female assistant about this, she said, "what's the big deal, I lie all the time." I swear, that is what she said. They also do not have Master Arborist certification. In a nutshell, they are dishonest. I recommend you call Arborwell instead. read more

We have used Small World Tree Company for more than three years to assist with routine trimming and safety pruning tress on the 7 acre Marin Humane Society campus in Novato. Last night's storm was remarkable and the winds toppled a 50' tree which blocked all vehicle access to the rear of the property. I had this company come out and do some deadwood removal from a huge Monterey Pine in my back yard. Both Jim and Natalie were as lovely as they could be, and that extended to their crew. The work they did was fantastic. My tree looks really great, and I cannot get over the impeccable job that was done cleaning up when they were finished. Anything they moved was put back exactly where and how it was found, and both my yard and brick patio were spotless. Not only did they remove a pile of branches that was already there, a pile that had nothing to do with the work they did on my tree, quite frankly, that part of the yard and brick patio looked better after they left than it did before they got there. It looked so good, in fact, I was almost embarrassed. I had decided not to clean my patio knowing there was going to be tree work done, and I thought (based on past experience at my old house with another company) I'd just have to clean again after the tree work was finished ... not so with Small World Tree Company! They not only cleaned up any mess they made, they cleaned up the mess that was already there!!! I would highly recommend them to anyone, and the next time I need any tree work done, I will most definitely be calling them! read more

Jim and Natalie and their crew did an excellent job of chipping and hauling a fallen Monterey pine. They were reasonable, scheduled the job quickly and cleaned up after. We have used Small World Tree on numerous occasions over the years. We recently had a huge branch from our willow fall in the middle of the night. We were concerned for the safety of others and the integrity of the tree. It took out 3 other trees. I called at 8:00 am and they were here by 8:30. Natalie has always been very professional. Small World Tree pruned my gigantic 75 foot Norfolk Pine in my backyard in San Francisco today. They did a beautiful job on the tree, raising the canopy and thinning the rest of the tree to provide more light to the yard. They really know what they are doing and it looks very natural. They were very careful dropping lots of material in a small space and cleaned up perfectly. Even my neighbors complimented them for cleaning up whatever dropped in their yards. And, on top of it the whole crew was pleasant to be around. I highly recommend them. read more

My neighbors had a tree cut down by Small World and in the process a cut limb landed on my fence and broke a board. After a couple of unreturned phone messages I reached them. They said they didn't do it and had not seen any damage on the day they were out here. I explained that the broken board was lying behind my fence where it would not be easily visible and the limb was still lying on top of it. Also that it was the only oak tree in the area and that I discovered it the day after they were out here hacking up the neighbor's tree. I explained to them that all that is needed to repair the fence is a new board to replace the broken one... I even told them the type of wood and the dimensions. Yes, it's a simple fix for someone with a saw and a vehicle that will accommodate the board. They said that they would come look at it but never did. Several weeks later I spoke with them again. Again they denied causing the damage but said they would come look at it. They blew me off again. This was quite a while ago now. In my mind, this is unprofessional and truly bad business practice. A good tree service should be willing to take responsibility for any collateral damage they cause. I do not want to see them in my neighborhood in the future. read more

Having used Small World Tree Company within the last year and being happy with the work done, I emailed them 10 days ago for some additional services. Here it is 10 days later and except for a follow up phone call call I made and actually spoke to Natalie, I have heard nothing from them about coming out to look at my project. I was promised they would be out within days to look at the project. I have been forced to call a different company and have signed a contract in excess of 4K. I guess that my project is not important to them it must be too "SMALL". read more

I called Small World to have several dead/dying trees removed on our property. Natalie came out and gave us a competitive bid. The guys who did the work, Jerry and Pablo, were friendly and very professional. They did an excellent job cutting down the trees and cleaning up. Because their truck was full, I suggested they leave one cut up tree and come back another day for it. The owner, Jim, came and picked it up a few days later as promised. I have known and worked with Jim Cairnes of Small World for many years. What I appreciate about him is his care for any wildlife that might be using a tree that needs to be cut or pruned. Jim also donates a lot of volunteer time to help WildCare and the Hungry Owl Project reunite hawks and owls that have fallen from their nest, or where a nest was destroyed. For that alone, he is the best you can get. Too many people decide to prune or cut trees in the spring, which is the worst possible time for wildlife. That spring cleaning mentality sets in, but for the trees pruning is best done in winter when they are dormant. Jim has the compassion and knowledge to minimize harm to wildlife while doing his job. read more
