I don't really know where to start. My husband and I were looking for a breakfast place to try that was new to us. We stumbled upon Brookside Cafe. We drive by this place quite frequently and wanted to give it a try. We walked in the entrance and were waiting for someone to seat us or tell us we can sit wherever. We observed our surroundings and noticed that this place was VERY dated. It looked as if it were built in the 90s, however, it was established in 2006. The vibe in there was not great. It was quiet, and we could hear everyone's conversations. After about two minutes of watching the servers conversate with one another, as well as with the customers sitting at the counter space, we were "greeted" with a snobby "anywhere you're comfortable." We decided to sit in a "booth" of some sorts. Boy, was that uncomfortable! The cushioning underneath my behind was torn up and cutting my legs. They previously tried to fix it by taping the tear together, but that didn't work as it was still cutting my legs. Our server came over with menus, and immediately asked us what we wanted to drink. It took about five minutes to get a hot chocolate and an apple juice, we knew we were in for something different. I asked our server a couple of questions about the menu once she returned with our drinks, and she was confused, to say the least. She did not give us much time to look at the menu before we put our orders in. I ordered the Brookside. I asked her if I can substitute egg whites for eggs, and all she said was that they have egg whites. So, I asked for scrambled egg whites with cheddar cheese. I asked if I can try the hash brown patties instead of the home fries, and she was flustered due to that question. It seemed as if she had no idea what she was doing and it was as if I was speaking another language with that request. The food came out pretty quickly, but it was not hot. It was lukewarm. Everything was lukewarm. My scrambled egg whites with cheddar cheese turned out to be scrambled eggs with bagged shredded cheese you get at the grocery store. The hash browns were soggy from the grease of the fryer, and they tasted fishy. The "extra-crisp" bacon I ordered with it was also soggy and was most definitely not extra crisp. It was chewy and just not good. I got my Brookside with chocolate chip pancakes. The pancakes would not cut and they were stretchy when I tried to pull off the piece I tried to cut off. To be completely honest, it was like the cooks went to McDonald's early in the morning and got the Hot Cakes and hash browns and kept it under a heat lamp until someone ordered it. I was not pleased. Our server didn't come over once to ask us how our food was or how we were doing. She was too preoccupied setting up tables and chit-chatting with other employees and customers. We stacked our plates up and waited about ten minutes for her to come over to give us our check - still did not check to see how our food was. I was disappointed. Our experience here was not great, and I hope this establishment can kick things up. The servers need some work, too. We will not be back. read more

Always amazing service! Food is great. Portions are more than I should really eat. But I come for the great service. No frills. You won't find those ridiculous tablet devices with games and stuff that all the chain restaurants are putting on the tables. But you'll find great food prepared just the way you like it by staff that listens and cares. read more

I never got as far as trying the food because I never was served. Went into restaurant was told to sit anywhere and then was ignored. Two servers never came over, never said someone would be right over, never got a menu, never was offered a drink. I kept catching the eye of servers but no response. We were visiting the area for a week so breakfast has been fun as we explore different eateries. Laundry was still a must and thanks to Yelp we found this breakfast joint very near the laundry mat. What a find. The food was reasonably priced, prepared well, and served by a friendly staff. The scrambled eggs were great, potatoes done well, bacon was just right, French toast delicious. Not to sure about the McDonald's style hash browns though. Could have done without those. Coffee was good. One child wanted something warm to drink that wasn't chocolate. The waitress had no problem warming up some apple juice for a very much enjoyed substitute. Good value for what you get in both food and atmosphere. Recommended. This is a great breakfast place for the Norwood/Canton area! I was looking for something on a Friday morning and everything else was closed for the July 4th holiday week. The place was reasonably full, but not so full that it was hectic and there was no wait. I ordered the Popeye Benedict (eggs Benedict with spinach and tomato) and the other people in my party ordered the Sausage Benedict and the Cinnamon Swirl French Toast. All the dishes were tasty and the ingredients were obviously good and fresh. They offered real maple syrup for extra money which I totally appreciate. I gave four stars just because I thought the prices were a bit high for what it was. The service was friendly and reasonably quick. The atmosphere leaves a little to be desired. Just left this place and although the food was OK the waitress had THE WORST attitude. Her name was Kristen and i am a very understanding and laid back customer, to the point that if you bring me the wrong order i would still eat it just so i don't bother you. We were very polite the whole time and our orders were straight from the menu, no extra requests but this lady was the worst, eye rolls, tossing the credit cards back on the table... ugh i just can't, i will not be returning. read more

Excellent food. Had breakfast there on 2/23/2020. We sat at the counter as there was a bit of a wait. I ordered an egg white omelette with spinach , broccoli , tomato and American cheese, rye toast , turkey sausage and home fries. My husband had a meatball and cheese omelette. My husbands meatballs in the omelette were from what he said excellent. Food came out in about 15-20 minutes which was fine as we were in no hurry. The home fries were excellent, white in color, nice taste, perfect consistency, Portions were huge. We left overs for breakfast the next day. Service was good waitresses were friendly and told you to take your time while deciding.My omelette was $9.95 Because I had make your own and each vegetable after $8.95 was $1.00 more and my husband was the same price. Had an excellent breakfast. Got eggs and steak tips. Eggs over medium were perfectly cooked (no runny clear stuff) and steak tips were tender and delicious. Food was great. I orders french toast with scrambled eggs and bacon. The french toast was delicious. They added powdered sugar on the top. There was a lot of food and I was stuffed afterwards. My friend got the pancakes, scrambled eggs, and ham. He was a big fan of the pancakes. He didn't like the ham as much. We also ordered the orange juice and it was delicious. We went here on a whim without any particular expectations other than: Need to eat! Our food was delicious. The staff was attentive. We were filled with great portions, well-cooked food, (best Eggs Benedict I ever had!) and it was super cheap. Great meal for a great price. Ones of the many breakfast joints in Norwood. This is not one of the better ones. I think Murph's and Mug n Muffin are better. It is in a convenient spot in South Norwood. There is plenty of parking. The staff is very friendly and do a really good job. I just wish the food was a bit better. Stay away from the omelets and the hash browns. The place is clean and food comes out promptly. I would go back and try other things on the menu but as of right now I will stick to Murph's or Mug n Muffin. read more

One thing is I wish the menu would be shaken up more often, but they do offer varying specials. Decent portions and timely service. Pancakes were nice and fluffy, but would have been even better if they had some real maple syrup instead of the stuff that comes in the little packages where you tear the top off and pour it on. My favorite breakfast place in the Norwood area. My boyfriend and I are regulars, and most of the staff remember our typical breakfast orders. It is casual and bright, you can seat yourself wherever you like, and the prices are great! The owner and wait staff are really friendly and super nice. Parking lot is small, but there is always plenty of parking on the street. I highly recommend ordering banana pancakes with pecans! Yummy. read more
