Murph's was hopping when we went last weekend! Clearly a well loved spot. We were lucky to snag the only table for two that was left. The space is a strip mall diner - with a breakfast bar. Simple and homey. Parking was pretty easy in their shared parking lot, but it is also down the street from the municipal lots. The kitchen was a little backed up, due to how busy it was, but they got our coffees out immediately. They refilled my husbands hot coffee, but no one asked if I wanted refills on my iced coffee even though they indicate free refills on the menu. Other than that the wait staff was really good though and that is really my only complaint. I got the avocado and feta omelette with rye which was pretty good though when we go again I will probably get a main menu item next time and my husband got a breakfast combo with a waffle. The waffle was delicious and vanilla-y. They are a sugared strawberry establishment. Murph's serves breakfast all day, and they have all the breakfast classics as well as a lunch menu. Local joint where I met up with my friend Brian for breakfast. Pretty busy for 10:30 am on a weekday, we got the last table before people had to start waiting. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, getting drink orders and then meal orders. Coffee was not great, perhaps a darker roast than my preference. Once cup with four creamers was about all I could handle. As for the breakfast, it was great. I had the "Norwood Breakfast" which was two nice sized pancakes with two eggs, two pieces of bacon and two sausage links. Other than an unnecessary dusting of sugar, it was cooked as requested and delicious. I scraped off the sugar and ate it all. Very happy with this breakfast/lunch place. The service was fast and efficient. I love watching the young busboys motivated to clean and get our table ready. So my coworkers and I ordered food breakfast from here a few weeks ago. Food was ok nothing that great we all ordered eggs Benedict so my review I don't know how the other stuff on the menu is. The home fries where ok but needed salt not a big deal, the poached eggs were over cooked almost hard boiled not runny at all. The holindays sauce tasted like it was from a packed and English muffin was and English muffin lol. Prices seem very affordable service was nice. Murph's Place is an excellent breakfast dive. Thoroughly enjoy going to Murph's. The "Norwood Breakfast" plate is excellent, "Sirloin Tips & Eggs" are yummy, everything is great! Prices are also very reasonable. Sometimes the wait can be long because this place is so popular, but that is not a negative, it is proof that Murph's is worth going to. The only reason I gave it four stars instead five is because the coffee is terrible. Great food, a real local experience, and coffee that could erode a hole through something. What more could you ask for? The terrible coffee could end up being a motto. Imagine a t-shirt saying: "I had a great breakfast at Murph's, and I survived the coffee!" Wanted to try something new for our usual Sunday Breakfast, so I jumped on Yelp and found this place. I went with two other people. I had the Skins n' Hash special. It was OK. The eggs were mediocre and had a partially melted slice of cheese on top. The hash came from a can,which is fine, but was a little dry. I would probably eat here again sometime because that have a large menu and some of the other plates leaving the kitchen looked pretty good. Also, the prices were good. read more

This place is your textbook small town breakfast joint. It is always busy but you can still always get a table. We go on weekends for omelets and homefries mostly. We will venture out more to lunch soon, I think. We've gone on and off for over a year, and the food is always the same. The homefries are roasted red potatoes and are the best in Norwood! Went here at about 10 am on a Saturday. Plenty of open tables. My mom and I sat down, ordered beverages and perused the menu. Our waitress was super nice and attentive. I got eggs benny with bacon instead of ham and ordered the home fries crispy. Mom got a combo with sweet n sour pancakes (blueberries and cranberries), eggs over easy, sausage and bacon. I was very happy with my benny, eggs cooked perfectly, English muffin not soggy, bacon crisp and home fries crispy and delicious. Mom was happy with her breakfast as well. It wasn't very busy so we sat at the table for a little while making our grocery shopping lists and the waitress told us no worries at all. $20 for the two of us. Very poor food, just bland and done without passion. The "omelet" I was served consisted of a layer of egg folded over the filling. Clearly the kitchen staff never got the memo on how to cook an omelet. My boyfriend's eggs tasted like nothing, the home fries were too largely cut and poorly seasoned (tasted more like what you'd eat with a nice roast than with breakfast) and even the toast didn't make him smile. One bright spot: the baked beans were well executed. The service left much to be desired. No host to greet and seat us, and we had to practically beg for Splenda. The waitress paid little attention, and I did notice her greeting the regulars much more warmly. I guess this *is* an insider spot. We are not coming back. Been to Murph's on several occasions. They are one of the better places in Norwood; however, the 50's Diner IMHO is much better if you can get in on the weekends. I prefer to take in either the 50's Diner or Murph's during the week to avoid the crowds. Murph's is a diner type eating establishment located in the center of Norwood. Parking can be tight and there is the municipal lot across the street. Are you a fan of can processed corn beef hash? If so, then Murph's the place for you. I prefer the can over fresh home made. It needs to be crispy as well. The 50's Diner is home made but I need it processed. The prices are decent and certainly deserves mention b/c of today's economic times. No credit cards are accepted so bring the green backs. The pancakes are ok. They remind me of the pancake fundraisers being held at your local American Legion or Lion's Club. Nothing spectacular but certainly tasty. Overall, the place is nice. They take reservations for larger parties so call ahead. read more

I love Murphs. I consider each Sunday morning living here in Boston taking the T back to Norwood just to eat there. Its that worth it. GREAT prices, superb service. I loveee their pancakes. This place gives the Brookside Cafe a run for its money. I can't believe how many great breakfast places there are in Norwood. This place is always packed when they're open and the service is wonderful. The coffee is occasionally muddy, but who doesn't appreciate muddy coffee at a diner? I give it five stars. read more

I go here for the crispy french toast. Think your regular french toast coated in cornflakes flavored with vanilla, deep fried to perfection and served with a dusting of powdered sugar. YUM. The coffee's not bad either... it's bottomless, my only complaint is that the wait staff can be a bit over zealous re-filling my cup. I took just a few sips and she topped it off... I couldn't even intervene because she was all stealth about it. I know that's a silly gripe but I strive to achieve the perfect balance of milk & sweetness. The candy basket outside the door was extra full today, I snagged a butterscotch candy for later. They do server up a nice Spuds and Scrams - a very naughty skillet of potato skins topped with eggs, bacon, and cheese. We always enjoy the atmosphere as it's filled with everyone in Norwood over the age of 50. Great townie breakfast spot! Their hash meals are great, the hash skillet, hashlette (omelette) and Irish Benedict are all must tries. The place is cash only, and there is a liquor store in the same plaza, so just make sure you have a $20 bill for your meal! What puts this place at 4 stars? Honestly I have had better tasting breakfasts, but I sometimes just have to go to Murph's. I feel that it is the place itself, the people, the reality that is the diner. It's a "townie" spot - there are many definitions to what a "townie" is but I would say that this is a spot that everyone in the Norwood/Walpole area goes to, and simply fits in at. I would love to love this place, but I went there twice and it hasn't changed. I found that the homefries were oversalted leaving you to down a glass of water. This morning I got the veggie skillet. It would've been great if the veggies were cooked, like I got a bunch of raw onion, not a flavor I want to taste first thing in the am. And they used fake cheese like nacho cheese or something like that. Service wasn't great never offered a second cup of coffee and handed our check 2 minutes after we were given our food! If I'm heading to breakfast in this area, I either go here or brookside. They are both solid choices, but depending on what I want, I make my choice. They both offer different atmospheres and menus. So right off the bat, this place can get busy! This isn't necessarily a bad thing, and to most people, it's a sign that they are doing something right! It's located in the small plaza, so parking is a premium. The diner itself is somewhat small, although if you go in alone, I have never had to wait for a seat at the counter. Because of its size, it can get somewhat loud and cacophonous at times, but that's to be expected. It's a nice, friendly environment where you see many different students, families, and others. It's a good family place. I will mention one disclaimer: it is a cash only establishment. This is not a bad thing at all... If you have cash. If not, there is also an ATM there. One nice thing is that the prices are incredibly reasonable. I was very pleasantly surprised. The portions are nothing short of epic. You will not leave this place hungry, or if you do, it's your fault. You certainly get what you pay for, and the quality of the food is also Solid. I typically get the eggs Benedict Irish, and everything seems pretty homemade and fresh. They even use real fresh potatoes to make the home fries, which to me is an incredible added bonus. They run the shop pretty efficiently, if you are in a hurry, they will get you in and out fairly quickly. They clearly run a good business, and The size of the crowd on the weekends will be testament to that. If you are looking for a good solid breakfast place in this area, try this place out... We visited Murph's Place on a Sunday morning after reading the reviews on Yelp. We arrived shortly after 10am with a party of 4. The restaurant appeared busy but not slammed. We were seated and it took 10 minutes for the server to bring drinks. After we got drinks, we were ready to order, but the server took orders from other tables that were seated after us. Overall, service was horrible and many people besides us were waiting. Finally, we left after being completely frustrated (we never made an order) and went to Brookside Cafe just up the road, and had a wonderful breakfast. Of all the breakfast places around, Murph's is by far my tried-and-true favorite. Their pancakes (my menu item of choice) are delicious! Large in size, slightly sweet from the powdered sugar, and just delicious. Their menu features many stand-by breakfast classics (eggs/toast/meant combo plates, Benny's, hot cereal, french toast, etc.) and their specials feature unique breakfast concoctions (crispy french toast, seasonal hashes, etc.). Although I haven't eaten there for lunch, their menu looks like it covers all the bases (burgers, sandwiches, salads, soups). One star docked from their review because of their home fries. Now, I would say there is a lot of confusion in the breakfast world about hash browns vs home fries vs breakfast potatoes vs hash vs breakfast cubes etc. Personally, I prefer my home fries to be crispy and salty, essentially breakfast french fries that are good for the soul, if not for the waistline, but as far as I can tell the only breakfast potatoes they have at Murph's are large chunks of skillet-browned potato. Any one find any crispy potatoes here? Overall I adore Murph's. Their pancakes are divine. They make you feel at home. Do you like pancakes? Do you like hospitality? Of course you do! Can't believe some of these negative reviews! My husband and I have been coming to Murph's for breakfast ever since we moved to the area and have never been disappointed. In my experience, the service has been friendly and efficient, the prices are reasonable, and the portions are incredibly generous. I tend to order either a skillet or eggs Benedict, and the only disappointment there is that yes, the veggies are frozen. So now I don't order veggie dishes. That's it. Still so much on the menu to stuff yourself with. We've learned that if you're coming on Sunday, it's best to come before 10 a.m., especially if you have 4 or more people in your party. It's a small place so seating and parking can get competitive. They do a really good job of taking people in they order they arrive as seats become available, but I've seen the line backed out the door before. Also remember it's a cash-only joint, so bring bills! There is an ATM on site if you need one. If you're in the area, give Murph's a chance! You won't be disappointed (and you'll be so full that they may have to roll you out of there). read more
