I'd been stalking BBB on Instagram for a while, and their baked goods have always looked so delicious. We got there right when they were opening, and there was already a line out the door. Sooooo over the weekend I was in Cincy and I've seen these beautiful cinnamon rolls plastered on different foodie pages, so I had to check it out. My bf and I rushed over Saturday morning I think it was about 10. Anyways there was a line which was fine by me because it gave me ample time to look the place over. Very clean looking, simple and modern. Great looking sweets and a few savory treats. Coffee, but no half and half creamer just 2% milk. We got a cheese and chive scone and one of the amazing looking cinnamon rolls.... I may have grabbed a few treats to take home too. Anyways this cinnamon roll was the best one I have ever had! An ample amount of topping, crunchy almost caramel tasting bottom, moist and the orange zest was a welcomed flavor among the cinnamon and cream cheese flavors. The scone was delicious as well... it was large, moist, and definitely taste the chive and cheese flavors ... I could have put butter on it myself but I love butter lmao. I can't remember exactly what we took home something super chocolatey and a slice of poppyseed something. It's a spice you don't think of incorporating into a drink, but I kept sipping it all day. It definitely had a touch of heat (in the sense, spicy) so it really made for an interesting and unique experiment away from boring coffee. Completely unrelated to the food but I really like what they did to the inside lobby. They kept a lot of the original historic features (doors/ windows) and the space gets a TON of light since it is south facing. Early bird gets the worm here! This bakery is designed to offer multiple different items when they first open. As the day progresses, the items dwindle until they are sold out. They are able to sell out quite frequently, which shows the quality of the goods they sell. I was able to try a few items, and must say that I was pleasantly surprised. My wife and I grabbed a quick bite as a late breakfast and quickly decided to split the cinnamon roll and the savory brioche (both $5 each). The cinnamon roll is what brought us there in the first place, but the brioche stole the show! The gooey cinnamon rolls are served with plenty of icing on top as well as orange zest to kick it up a notch. This was a delicious offering, but once I tried the savory brioche I had an immediate favorite. The light and fluffy bread is covered with goat cheese, spices, and topped with pepitas. The interior is so warm and inviting, with amazing large windows; the first time I visited, one of the employees walked me through their choices and was extremely welcoming. The best part, obviously, was the food. I got their focaccia, a laminated lemon poppyseed brioche, and a chocolate oat cookie to bring back to my roommate. Oh my GOD it was all so good. The prices are fair too, they could charge so much more and I'd still come back lmao. My roommate still talks about that cookie. It leaned in that direction, but it was definitely chewy. There's a distinct salty taste (hence the name) yet it's one of the best I've had so far! A little on the pricey side (It was around $4.00), but this little bakery is a lovey stop. The ladies there were so welcoming, and it has a cheery ambiance and lots of natural light which was nice on this dreary day. Note: I did try their cinnamon rolls while I was there because I'd heard they were awesome. Maybe it's because they weren't fresh out of the oven (I stopped by around noon). Visited Brown Bear Saturday morning in the first full snow of the year in Cincinnati. Professionals were passionate about the bakery items. Gave each customer plenty of time to decide and description of items available. We ordered a butter croissant - perfectly made. Also ordered a savory croissant ( cheese- sweet potato) delicious then we ordered an everything croissant with a flavor filled cream cheese in the center. Black coffee was delicious. In from Out of town and staying at Air BnB nearby, I walked over on a Thursday July 28 about 9 am. The owner said they were short on bakers so shutting down the shop to save hours for the weekend. Oh ok ...disappointed but that made sense. The next morning I walked back about 11 am and they were sold out/doors locked. Ok now I was annoyed. I am a big fan of Brown Bear Bakery. I honestly feel that there is something for everyone. They usually have a wide assortment of items, but they sell out on a daily basis. (So I recommend calling ahead to see if they have an item you want before going in!) The thing I enjoy about Brown Bear also is that even if you're set on something, there is always another item that will catch your eye. The staff is also always available and super helpful in trying to pick something out. One staff member guided me to their special focaccia that day and I can honestly say I loved every bite of it. I also had their pizza one, but the carrot focaccia was the perfect combination of fresh ingredients, salt and garlic. Love their bakery goods! I have been here twice and tried the matcha slice, the brioche bostock, the cinnamon roll, scones, and some shortbread cookies. They are all pretty good (maybe the best in the Cincinnati area). Matcha slice is my favorite. I didn't like it the first couple bites because it's a very dense (almost fudgey) texture, but it grew on me. I would say it is an acquired taste, but you would love it after you get through the first couple bites. This is the one thing that I crave now and I have to get one every time I am there! I went back this last weekend and the matcha slice changed its shape. It's a "slice of cake" instead of a rectangular slice now. I had been wanting to try Brown Bear Bakery since I moved to Cincy... a year ago! And boy was it worth the wait. I went on a Saturday morning with my friend and had anticipated a long line so we got there when it opened. I knew I wanted (needed) a coffee but when I looked at the other side of the glass case I had NO IDEA what to order. Everything looked so delicious. Luckily there was no line and I was able to take it all in and eventually we both decided on the coffee cake. I definitely think I made the right choice. The coffee cake had chocolate and caramel layers paired with a moist cake and topped with perfect crumbs. I've never had anything quite like it. The staff was super friendly and the "chill" vibe of the storefront was undeniable. Another plus was that the bakery was very sustainable. They provided uncooked spaghetti as stirrers, paper straws for your drinks, and even had a recycling bin to toss your paper and plastic in when you were done eating. I do wish there was more space to sit and more parking options, but the delicious food makes up for everything. I will definitely be back to try out more sweets :) read more

Sweet corn with a kick of poblano peppers and goat cheese on top of a delicious croissant with so many flaky layers. A must try!!! If you live in the heart of Over the Rhine, this bakery should be a stop on your weekend! For me, this bakery would be visited just for a treat and only every once in awhile. It's not a place I would go to everyday, but I would come here for an extra special treat. I was really hoping to try the cinnamon rolls -- but they were out of them. I stopped here on a food tour. Our food tour guide told us he had asked the bakery to hold cinnamon rolls for us, but when we got there - there weren't any. It wouldn't have been a huge deal; however, our guide told us we would have them, so we were really looking forward to it. I had heard so many good things about their cinnamon rolls - and even follow them on Instagram, so I was excited to try them. I'll have to try again some time. If you want to try their cinnamon rolls, make sure you are there early! I have seen pictures where they have the line outside the door. The cookie I had was HUGE. It was okay -- not extremely sweet and almost a bit salty. The blueberry muffin I shared with my mom was also really good. The bakery is situated opposite a church which makes for a beautiful view while munching on your scones and coffee. A large number of folks come in for takeouts since the space in here is limited. We did have to walk through some difficult areas though to reach here. Nuff said. I got a scone and my friend got a brioche. I loved the scone. My friend did not enjoy her brioche as much so she ended stealing 3/4th of my scone. But I was able to make peace with brioche. I haven't had a lot of brioches to compare with. But do try the scone because I think it's so rare to find a good scone in this country. They have a lot desserts as well but I can't judge them since I don't have a sweet tooth at all. We did not have issues with service either. If only my walk could be better I would probably hang around here every weekends chomping on scones. read more
