We loved the Brown Hound when it was in Bristol Springs. It has taken us a while to drive the hour to its new location, but now that we have, we'll be making the trip more often. We arrived for Sunday brunch as a mass exodus from the restaurant was underway, thanks to a malfunctioning fire alarm. We surveyed the patrons lingering outside and the consensus was thumbs up. When we were seated, service was excellent, as was the food. My hubby had the blueberry ricotta pancakes, which were moist and flavorful, full of blueberries. I opted for lox and bagel, with veggie cream cheese, another winner. The only reason for four stars instead of five is that they couldn't do a decaf cappuccino. The server explained they don't stock decaf expresso. After brunch, we wandered the atrium of the museum and browsed the shop. A fun, delicious experience. read more

Service here was great. The staff was friendly and super welcoming to my mom exploring the space to take photos (she's visiting). I ordered their waffles and it was BOMB. The spicy maple syrup was a great touch. I have my mom my ham and ordered a side of marinated Ithaca tofu. That was alright, had decent flavor, but I wasn't like "wow!" My mom ordered the French Toast. The filling was good, but it didn't feel balanced ratio wise with the toast. The crusting on the outside was nice, but also a little much. Not a bad dish, just not something I would personally get again. I ordered a boozy coffee to start my brunch. I think it was the Deathwish Mocha? Def would recommend. read more

Salads were terrible! My friend and I ordered two of them and they were not even close to how they were described on the menu. So disappointing! I go to a lot of art museums and this is by far the worst meal I've ever had at an art museum restaurant. I would not recommend The Brown Hound based on the poor quality of the salads. Had brunch here on New Year's Day. The service was excellent, even with a large party that included children. Had the ricotta pancakes - they were perfect, sweet but not kid/cloyingly sweet. Brown Hound is not just a great restaurant at the art gallery. It's also a fabulous caterer! While planning her lakeside wedding, my daughter's highest priority was to have amazing food, so we had to find someone who could do something extraordinary. Trish provided a tasting for the couple, a few face-to-face planning meetings, where she was totally open to the couple's vision, and offered great ideas to make it even better. We had special dietary restrictions to consider as well, and Trish handled them all beautifully, and for a very reasonable price. On the day of, her team was really cheerful, friendly and professional, the bar drinks and food were amazing, and each course served right on time. Food was amazing and service was great! Only negative was that the coffee was pretty bad. I ordered a cappuccino and it tasted like a very watered down latte (no foam, very little espresso taste and lots of milk). Then i got a decaf regular coffee to make it better and i thought i accidentally got plain hot water until i looked and saw a brown color! What a phenomenal place. We stopped for lunch during an outing. Its located in a strange place, inside the Memorial Art Gallery. You don't have to pay to get into the Gallery to eat here. Its a small place, but the atmosphere is very comfortable. The service was wonderful. Kelly, our server was on top of everything. Order was quickly taken, drinks delivered. Friendly, smiling all the time. The food was excellent. The menu is just the right size for a place like this. Had the pork belly sandwich. Careful, comes with Jalapeno peppers! Rehearsal Dinner Party was Fabulous! When searching for a fun and different place for our son's Rehearsal Dinner Party, we came across the Brown Hound Downtown. Located at the Memorial Art Gallery on University Ave., it's a perfect, central location, with ample space, free parking, security, and an attentive staff who was second to none in providing us extraordinary service for our group of 35. The party was on a Friday evening, and so we had the entire place to ourselves. We knew the restaurant was known for its brunch and lunch menus. We were looking for appetizers and grazing stations as well as dessert. Trish & Joe were very flexible and worked with us in planning an amazing menu that satisfied the entire group and was more than plentiful. The offerings were delicious, presentation spot on and the staff, friendly and attentive. We chose passed hors d'oeuvres, appetizer stations, three dinner grazing stations, and assorted pastries for dessert. The bartender had created a Fall menu of drinks, which the guests enjoyed, in addition to the local spirits, beers and wines typically available. Pricing is very reasonable. We've received so many compliments and kudos from our guests. What a hidden gem! A photo of the bride and groom's pug is now on the Brown Hound wall of fame. Location, service, and menu are all A+. However, I was somewhat disappointed in my first trip. Multiple items on the menu were unavailable, which our server promptly told us, but then I was told *after* placing an order for a burger with LTO that they ran out of tomatoes. What?! Tomatoes? Really? The burger was tasty, but was clearly well done, while I ordered medium. I ordered a side of home fries with my burger (instead of French fries, because why not) and they were really not even warm. Kind of disappointing. Not sure if these problems were from the fact that I dined toward the end of brunch service, or if this place is generally riddled with small issues, but the potential for a great dining experience is all there...the execution is lacking. I'm a longtime fan of the former location in Bristol. The new location inside the Memorial Art Gallery is decidedly more upscale. I've been to the new location twice. Once for brunch, and once for dinner. The brunch was fantastic. My dining partner had the Croak Madame, which she just raved about. I had the Bistro Benedict, which was served on cheese biscuits instead of english muffins, which is a definite upgrade. I went for dinner on a recent Thursday, and was pleasantly surprised to find a musician on acoustic guitar whom we had seen a number of times at the old location. He was very good, and wasn't so loud that we couldn't have a conversation at our table. There aren't all that many choices for dinner on the menu. However, my partner was happy to see the Wellington carried over from the old menu. The servers were all very friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. This location has a full bar. Although we didn't have any, I was told that most of the alcohol is from local distilleries. As an interesting side note, our server told us that the owner made the bar from reclaimed barn wood. If you're looking for a different kind of place, I'd definitely recommend this place. read more

I went to this restaurant to have a nice lunch with my sister and it was the worst experience I have ever had. It started with who I assume was the owner coming to our table before we ordered and asked us how everything was. Our waiter told us the specials and was gone for about 15 minutes. When we were finally able to order we choose the same items a cup of bisque and the Latke special, which sounded delicious. The bisque was sour and had too much turmeric in it. Then our entree came. What a disaster on a plate. It not only was old but burnt. I have made these numerous time and it was disgusting. The waiter took it away and I ordered a veggie burger no bun and my sister a Bison burger. The Chef comes out with a baseball hat turned backwards and scruffy looking to tell us he was out of Bison. So she ordered a regular burger no bun and plain. Before it came out they sent us out a plate of pumpkin grits or something with baby shrimp and walnuts not impressed. Before our food came the chef came out again and was telling us how they were 86 a lot of product, changing their menu honestly information we didn't need to know. We did eat eventually once again completely disappointed. We waited 20 minutes for our check while the owner and the 2 servers were at the bar laughing and talking I got up to ask for the check. They took the 2 entrees of but charged us for a bison burger which was $17 and the regular burger was $13 which was extremely tiny. The owner NEVER came over to say a word. WILL NEVER GO BACK. The museum was wonderful but it really need to rethink the restaurant representing it. read more

I came with my 2 young children and husband on a Sunday morning around 11. We were seated right away without a reservation (no big deal today but next time I probably will because it seemed suggested). We ordered and our food was brought out promptly. Everything was incredible. My son inhaled his chocolate chip pancakes! I loved the strawberry rhubarb stuffed French toast. The waitress was wonderful and brought a small plate of fruit out for my daughter because she was enjoying her orange slice garnish so much. It seems like a somewhat hidden gem! I have to say, after reading some of the reviews of this restaurant and traveling from more than an hour away, I was very disappointed with the whole experience. After waiting for several minutes the Maitre D ran by, asking if I had a reservation as he passed. I gave him the name. He came back after another few and asked again. I gave him the name again and then waited another few minutes. He again came back and asked again and for how many. When I told him, again, he finally seated me. It was 11:15 and there were many empty tables. I ordered coffee, it came fairly quickly and was very good. My friend arrived and we ordered. She asked for the Nicoise salad with dressing on the side and I ordered the Bistro eggs benedict. After about 45 minutes, her salad came with the dressing already on it and my eggs came with no hollandaise and undercooked bacon instead of ham. We waited as the waiter took away her salad and then brought me the sauce on the side. The gouda biscuit was also very dry and crumbly, making me wonder how fresh it actually was. The waiter also seemed to have trouble understanding that we wanted separate checks. All in all, definitely not worth the expense and I won't be going back. read more

While searching for breakfast locations in my neighborhood I came across the Brown Hound. I decided to treat myself to brunch during a Black History event. They seated me in a nice location outside overlooking the atrium of the museum. My server was quite friendly but not smothering. I ordered the panko crusted french toast. It was filled with ham and gruyer cheese. Fabulously heavy. It was better without the syrup. After eating I took a tour of MAG, which had been on my list for some time, and enjoyed the Black History celebration. This is a hidden gem to some of us. It was such a good experience that my daughter made a reservation to treat 10 women from our church for brunch. read more

IOrdered the bison Burger medium. When it came it was very pink and soft in almost raw on the inside. I asked the Waiter to take it back and please have it cooked medium with no pink. When the Burger came back it was still part soft and pink in the middle so I asked the waiter to take it away and I did not want it. Very disappointing. PS. The fries were very good though. Went here for dinner Friday night only to be disappointed. The server seemed not to know anything about the menu items and consistently had to retreat to ask someone else how dishes were prepared. Bread was brought in a straw basket, one piece each for the four of us and a small paper cup of butter; we went through that quickly and when we asked for more were given another four pieces. Amazing. That should have been a message but we foolishly stayed. A few items on the very brief dinner menu were unavailable, even though there were only two other tables occupied. Not finding anything appealing on the dinner menu I asked if they would make a lunch menu sandwich but that was not possible. My dinner salad was, well, sparse for what they charged. Our friends asked for their favorite domestic wine but learned only New York wines were on offer. A long wait in the nearly empty dining room eventually resulted in our orders which were average. Finally made it in for dinner a couple of weeks ago before an RBTL show. I've stopped into the cafe a couple of times which has been great but I really wanted to go for dinner. I am so glad I did. First of all the service was excellent. Lisa G. was our server and was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu but not only that, went out of her way to make our experience perfect. My daughter wanted to order the side of sweet potatoes but they happened to be out. The chef decided to send out a sample of the sweet potato wellington for us to try since we couldn't get the side order! It was delicious. I ordered the Tuna Salad. It was cooked perfectly (rare sear) but what I enjoyed the most was the blend of citrus flavor with the dressing and creaminess of the avocado. Just the right amount of greens --A satisfying size. Equally delicious was the Bistro salad that my daughter ordered. The maple shallot vinaigrette was great! I'm looking forward to trying the brunch! read more
