They are way over priced, and try to sell you everything. They won't take you dog insurance - they make you file. They offer insurance (but call it something else) - so if you don't use them you do it yourself. I was fine with that - I'll send the paperwork I already paid them. What does not sit well is that my dog was there 3 weeks ago and needed to come back for a second part of a booster. I was charged another wellness fee (I paid that 3 weeks ago). I have never paid this twice when my animals need the second part of a boost. They are ripping people off - they will get money one way or another. They said they told my husband of this fee - which was a flat out lie. I want a vet who is in it for my animals - not a money maker. Attached are receipts of being charged twice. Look at the dates. Very upset with the total disregard to posted hours. Truly upset that the staff decided to close early and not allow me to pick up my dog's remains. The staff called earlier in the day and told me she was ready to be picked up and they closed at 6 pm. I told them I would be there before close to get her. I should have written this post a while back when they injured my pet by trimming his nails too short which caused bleeding. Please read below. I had taken my dog to get his nails trimmed and the technician cut them too short. His nails bled. No one at the clinic informed me about this occurrence. They just handed me my dog and that was it. I took him home and he was acting strange. He was licking his paws, and I could tell he was in pain. I looked at his paws and noticed something was wrong, so I returned to the clinic. I questioned the technician and then they finally told me they had cut his nails too short, which caused them to bleed. There were no apologies, sympathy or anything. They offered no help. I was really upset as any pet parent would be for not being honest/forthcoming regarding my dog's injury. I told the technician that she should never touch my pet again. As a matter of fact, I told myself that I wouldn't be returning to have his nails done at this clinic. Fast forward to today (10/23/24): I had scheduled an appointment to see a doctor on Monday (10/21) as I couldn't get in with my favorite veterinarian this week. They scheduled my dog for 10/23. On 10/23, I received a call from the clinic (40 minutes before his appointment time) letting me know that they had canceled my appointment and that I could no longer bring my dog because of what had happened with the technician regarding my dog's nails. I'm not upset about not being able to take my dog to this clinic as they are not my first choice, however, I'm disappointed as to why they would even book an appointment to begin with. Why couldn't they call me sooner to inform me I could no longer book appointments with them (not 40 minutes before his appointment time). It's interesting that they realized this 40 minutes before his appointment. This only shows how unorganized, unprofessional, and uncaring they are. In summary, thankfully there are better options for our pets. I hope no other pet parent experiences what I experienced. Good luck! read more

Staff is incredibly friendly, but the Vet, Emma Krokoff, is incompetent. I have taken my super healthy 2 year old dog in several times since he was a puppy for vaccinations and routine care. Every time I go in, Emma tries to over treat and over charge. It reminds me of taking your car in for an oil change and they say you need $800 extra in other repairs (none of which are valid). It takes a LOT for me to tell a vet, give me my dog, I'm leaving. I'm now searching for a new veterinarian. Do yourself a favor and take your animal elsewhere. read more

My dog has been diagnosed with diabetes and I'm not sure what to expect. I worry if the numbers are too high or too low. The vet does not respond to my questions or the screenshots I send her. After almost a month, I received an email telling me that it was a slow process and I should add 0.5 units to the insulin every two to three days. This information would have been invaluable. Also, if you call with a question and the vet isn't in no one else can help you, even though they tell you to call if you have a question. I've been coming here for a few years. The staff is so nice and helpful. Today I met a new doctor that helped with Zeus and his upper respiratory infection. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He really seemed to care about his health. Come to find out he was a animal trauma surgeon before working the clinic. A nice break for him and a treat for all of us at the clinic. Dr Rory Lubold was really impressive. He explained things about my dog I could really understand . I've been going to Brown Road for four years, since I rescued two Golden Retrievers. Through all of the everyday (vaccinations, etc.) and complex (Cushing's disease) issues my dogs have had, BRAC has been warm, supportive and understanding. My dogs actually enjoy going to the vet, because they receive genuine attention and affection from the staff. The two vets have differing styles...I like Dr. McNulty more than Dr. Atkins, but I have friends who have had the opposite reaction. If you go and don't make a connection to one of the vets, you can ask for your next appt to be with the other. I have recently become more financially limited, and they have been sensitive to that, offering me alternatives to a recent issue we are dealing with. read more

I have been taking my Puppies to Brown Road animal for over 20 years. I would never consider taking them to any other vet. Many years ago, when our first little girl Pom, Brianna was pregnant - she was so small that I was concerned about her going into labor while I was at work. Brown Road animal worked with me and I dropped her off every morning on my way to work. She stayed in their capable hands during the day and I picked her up each evening. This went on for about 2 weeks.. and sure enough, our little girl delivered 3 puppies, at Brown Road Animal, with the team right there in case she had any issues. They were all healthy and happy patients of BRA for the next 14-16 years of their lives. Dr Adkins and Melanie have seen us thru births, deaths, long term diabetes care for one of our pups, and everything in between. It is a commitment emotionally and financially to own a pet. We are so blessed that we found Brown Road Animal way back when we adopted our very first Pomeranian puppy. Animals are unpredictable, their health can suddenly change, and I know that as long as BRA is in business,I have a vet home and a team I can count on to care as much as I do about our puppies living long, healthy lives. We brought our dog in for urinary issues. She was peeing blood and couldn't urinate fully. We suspected stones or UTI. We talked to the doctor and she did a urinalysis, which showed crystals in her urine. They did not perform an ultrasound to check for stones. We mentioned both possibilities and the doctor said we will give her antibiotics for a UTI. We left and our dogs health declined further. On a Friday, the day her antibiotics were running out (before the weekend) we called them and let them know she was lethargic and not urinating at all anymore. We never got a call back. She almost died over the weekend. I called again on Monday (still no return call) and they brought her in. They found a stone that was completely blocking her bladder. She could have died from kidney damage. They said they couldn't get her in for surgery that day but they could drain her bladder for $1,400 and give her pain meds. Then they performed the surgery the next day. This totaled $4,000. We had to take a credit card application out to pay for the bill. They never mentioned anything regarding the fact that they misdiagnosed our dog, or that she almost died. I then wrote a letter to the office regarding our concerns after getting advice from counsel and they have yet to respond. We will be following up with our attorney for this matter and filing a complaint with the Veterinary Board of Arizona. On top of everything else, we put down a deposit for our cat for a future appointment. We paid them $50 for this but were going to call in to make the appointment. So we never missed an appointment as we hadn't made one yet. When I called to ask for this to be returned to us the office said they didn't have a deposit on file. I went in and double checked my bank statement and sure enough, it was drafted when we were there on that date...something shady is up with this vet!!! I would steer clear of this place. read more

I've been bringing my dogs to Brown Road for 14+ years. The vast majority of visits have left me feeling peaceful and content with the services provided. The time I left unhappy or with unresolved issues, I had had interactions or been seen by Dr Erin McNulty. She was absolutely awful-no bedside manner and seemingly unable to make a correct diagnosis. Today I brought my aging dog in (they worked me in, which they're always willing to do). I was delighted to learn that McNulty has left the practice!!!!! Dr Adkins is wonderful and I'm looking forward to interacting with Dr Chrissler(the newest vet to join the practice). I'll continue to bring my pets here. read more

I have been going to Brown Road Animal Clinic for several years, as it was recommended by a friend. I have been somewhat happy with the quality of care, but feel that it is no longer up to standard. I had an appointment for my cat and waited for close to 45 minutes in the exam room. The technician took my cat vitals at the beginning of the visit and informed me that the doctor would be right in. I was left waiting for the doctor and I finally put my cat in his carrier and left, letting the receptionist know that apparently they did not care and did not want my business. I am no longer going to visit this practice and have already found one that comes highly recommended by numerous neighbors. read more

My 15year old schnoodle sick to death and I reached out to Warner Vista animal hospital first since I was a customer of record there. They didn't like me wanting to know what the drug euthasol was so they rudely turned me away, not the doctor or the office manager but whoever answered the phone there told me to go elsewhere. I called Brown Road animal clinic and set up an appointment for 2 PM. My dog began to cry out in pain so I called and they made arrangements for me to come in early, for wich I am ever grateful. I am a man, but this is one of the hardest things a man has to face, all told they did their best. In my grief and haste I locked myself out of my vehicle and borrowed a hammer and let myself in so I could go home and bury my friend. We have been taking our pets to Brown Road since 1988 and have experienced superior care every time. Dr. Atkins, Dr. Chrisler, and the entire staff are consistently friendly, caring and professional. Even though we live an hour away now, it's so worth the trip! I can't imagine trusting anyone else to take care of my pets. Sometimes I do have to wait to see the doctor but I can't complain because I know that the doctor is working to help the pet of the person before me. We have to remember that vets are just like all other doctors -- they have to diagnose and treat each patient from the ground up. Next time it might be my animal that needs the extra time. Today However we took our dog Bear in to be euthanized due to a tumor coupled with age. This is the LAST Time I will Ever go there!! I would not recommend this clinic. I had to borrow money to pay for my cats teeth to be pulled which he needed all of them pulled. They ended up only pulling five and now my cat is suffering and is probably going to die because he left those teeth in and i cannot afford 1100 more dollars i am still paying on the last visit. My wife and I got our first puppy from a rescue. We went to the vca which I was not fully content with. I found Brown Road Animal Clinic and I gotta say my pup found his forever vet. Dr. Mcnulty helped ke the first couple times and I really enjoyed how much she seemed to really care about my dog. She was ok with my million questions and was great with the information she provided. Today I saw Dr. Zinn, I didnt know what to expect out of a young guy but he seemed to be knowledgeable and care about my dog just as much. The staff there is always so friendly. I was super pleased with Dr. Zinn and his staff. My poor Petey had been losing weight and urinating a lot. We believed he had diabetes. Sure enough, Dr Zinn confirmed our suspicions and really helped us transition into new care for our dog. He was very clear on what would happen. He had his aide explain how to give shots, how we might have to adjust the medication, and even safely disposing of his needles. He never tried to up-sell us on tests we didn't need. I regrettably contacted this vet when our regular vet was unavailable to euthanize my sick, senior dog on short notice. From the moment I walked in the door, I knew I should have left. Not one person, not even Dr. McNulty, showed one ounce of compassion to either myself or my dog during this time. It's too painful to regurgitate all of the incompetencies here, but the single fact that during the entire 45 minutes that I was there (which was 30 minutes longer than I should have been) not one person in that entire office said the words, "I'm sorry for your loss." I also brought my dog in with his favorite blanket and asked that it be placed in the box along with him so that I could bury him in the blanket. They did not return the blanket, and I could not bury my dog with his blanket. read more

Made a first time appointment for my cat...had me sitting outside in 100 degree weather waiting for someone to call me...my appointment was 9:30...at 10:45 I tried to call inside to see what was going on...was put on hold. I had to go out of my way to drive there for something that would have taken 2 minutes over the phone. Not even a sorry or an explanation as to why no one was answering. If you need a vet for your pet's physical, perhaps some non-urgent tests or something that doesn't require anything urgent-sure go see Dr Adkins. Otherwise, DO NOT use this place. I started bringing my dogs (border terriers) to Dr Adkins when we moved to Mesa from north Scottsdale around April 2018. I knew I could not make a 45+ minute drive if there was an emergency or if one of my dogs wasn't feeling well and I needed a next day or few day away appointment ( too hard on them to make that drive when ill). So, Dr Adkins was recommended to me by my long time vet. I was primarily bringing one of my dogs because she has Cushings Disease and a few other little issues. The Cushings requires strict monitoring (frequent special ACTH blood tests) that I had been doing there, along with regular blood panels, Ultrasound.... I spent thousands of dollars in a few months because Dr Adkins is truly brilliant and actually seemed to be sweet and caring. All of a sudden they increased their ACTH test by $100; I was already paying more there for the test than my other vet, but that was ok because it was convenient and I really liked Dr Adkins. When they increased it by $100, I could no longer afford to do the tests there, but I continued to bring her there to treat the disease, do regular blood panels, and for other issues. Around February I called to bring her in because of odd breathing issues and he had previously suggested an X-ray if it persisted (just call and he'd take care of it). I called and was told he was booking 4 weeks out & could not schedule her before then, but I could always bring her to an Emergency vet! Seriously? I was told he was busy with snowbirds.... and just didn't have the time. In my life, I have NEVER heard that from a vet. Sure, you might have to wait a few days or a week depending on the circumstances, but this was outrageous. I had developed a relationship with him-he knew my dog's health issues (I sure spent enough $ there on visits and tests) and he (or maybe his staff) literally couldn't care less that she was having issues breathing. So, I told them I'd just run her up to her old vet and follow up with them once X-ray results came back. That never happened because I still couldn't get an appointment (told once May rolled around it would be easier to get an appointment) and she was actually doing okay, so all was ok. Fast forward... today at 3:40 I had the most frightening experience when my girl suddenly collapsed (fine one second and then couldn't stand, sit or lift her head). I gathered her up and got in the car and called Brown Road Animal Clinic to see if Dr Adkins was in. Yes, he was in, but did not have time to see her because he was just finishing up a minor surgery and was leaving for the day. I was crying (literally) and BEGGED the guy who answered the phone to PLEASE fit me in, as they knew her medical history and I trusted him.... (after all, I can't tell you how many times I patiently waited over an hour past my appointment time because an emergency came in... it's what a compassionate person does without a thought). I told him I could be there in 7 minutes to please ask Dr Adkins. The answer was no-bring her to an emergency vet-you know, a stranger that doesn't know my dog or her health history. I called my other vet who said they would absolutely fit her in or even wait past closing for me if need be, but they felt due to the distance (45 minutes with no traffic and we were in rush hour now) and severity, I should bring her to the Emergency vet if Dr Adkins refused to see her (which they were speechless when I told them)-which is what I did. Bottom line here- the ONLY thing Brown Road cares about is booking appointments, to whoever calls and if you are a current patient of Dr Adkins - too bad. I get it, they're in a business to make money (which they've made plenty of off me), but a veterinary practice should have a degree of compassion and care!! When I first started going there they were very caring and I loved Dr Adkins and all the staff, etc, but now they could not care less. How does a veterinarian turn his back on an emergency involving any animal, no less their own patient? DISGUSTING! read more

We usually go to power road animal hospital but they were full and we couldn't be seen until Tuesday unless we did a work in appointment. There was an 84.00 charge for that. So we ended up calling The Brown Road Animal Clinic. There was no up charge for it being a Saturday. The receptionist was so kind and got us in right away. The clinic isn't fancy but the care they gave our sweet cat was so compassionate! The assistants and Dr. Todd were so kind from start to finish. My family and friends told me to stay away from Brown Road Animal Clinic, that they have had bad experience, but I wanted to give them a chance. Boy was I wrong, and taken advantage of. Never again, I should have listened to all my family and friends that had bad experiences with this clinic. We started with a Dr. McNulty as our pups vet, and she didn't even check my pups. She looked them over, gave them shoots and out the door. It felt like she had other things to do besides check my pups for health problems, maybe happy hour? My girlfriend went in, and met with Dr. Mike Zinn, and he was better. He found a few problems with my pups that Dr. McNulty didn't take the time for. I was quoted and lied to multiple times about my pups costs. I asked why I was told something different before I made the appointment and the office lady said I don't know. Really, tell me this after I am there? This happened a few different times. I feel they are interested in making money at my pup's expense. These guys took a shotgun approach with my dog's ear infection, twice. They were happy to charge me over $150 and send me on my way with an unlabeled mystery solution containing an unknown antibiotic. I told them two weeks later that it wasn't helping. They charged me another $40 for brand name ear drops which also did nothing. They were more interested in justifying the charge than taking care of my dog the first time. I went to a competitor in "Las Sendas" who was very thorough, cleaned his ear out, pulled a hairball out of his ear, and gave him a steroidal antibiotic that is working wonders for him, all at less than half the price. I was looking for a smaller scale family vet and met with Dr Adkins. Nice quirky kinda guy. Straight shooter and down to earth. He answered all my questions without me feeling like I was a bother. (I liked that!) In my opionion some Doctors treat the general public like morons or aids patients. I didn't get ther weirdo vibe from Dr Adkins. As for my last vet, I couldn't say the same. Vet tech was REALLY nice. Front of house lady seemed kinda fake, but was nice enough. I had a bit of a wait due to two pet emergencies. The doc even appologized for the wait. I like the humility. I totally understand, if my dog was severly sick or hit by a car, I would hope for the same treatment. I'm very happy to have found a new vet. read more
