Called after reading the stellar reviews. Asked what the diagnostic fee was and was informed around $120. I further inquieres if a repair was needed would the fee be applied to the repair. I was told a blunt no, but due to the reviews I further inquired on towing the vehicle to their location. I was informed " it depends " with a long silence. I further inquired on what and was told distance and veh type. I said okay and inquired on the cost and was informed of the company name. I'm guessing they use a 3rd party to tow for them. I asked for a number and was told " I don't have it on me at this time ". I felt like I wasted my time while trying to get my veh repaired. Short answer: Based on my experience, I am giving them five stars. I wish they were closer to me (I chose them for proximity to my brother, because his car was the primary reason I was looking for a shop). The long answer: This is my first experience with (Richard) Brown's Auto Service. I went there primarily because of their reviews on Angie's List and Yelp. I was impressed by the good reviews and the bad reviews, the latter of which he seemed to handle well in terms of customer satisfaction and follow-up. He seemed unusually committed to insuring his customers were treated fairly. I had two cars serviced here. On a 1998 Saturn, which I used to own, but gave to my brother, we took it in for a variety of problems - squealing belts, loose brakes, etc. We had the following work done on it: - Serpentine belt tensioner replaced - Master cylinder replaced - Catalytic converter replaced - Fuel tank pressure sensor He charged $98 for diagnostics. I am OK with that because their labor on the rest of the work was not excessive. Many places include "free" diagnostics if you do the work there, but that is because they have so much slop in their labor cost that they can afford it. My brother was unable to drop off the car for prolonged periods, which made things problematic, but Richard handled it well and was very patient and considerate. I had them do the alignment on my 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid. There's really not much to say on an alignment. It cost $120. They don't do the alignments on site. Rather, they check out the car, then send it to a partner for the alignment, then check the results sent back with the car after the alignment. I may have been able to get it done more cheaply, but I am confident in the process they use and, frankly, with the way they handled the work on my brother's car, I was happy to give them more work. I spent a lot of time talking with Richard throughout the process and unlike most mechanics with whom I have dealt over the decades, what he said made sense or was reassuring, as opposed to sending off warning flags in my head. Of course, time will tell the tale, but everything looks good now. I will update this review as needed. read more

I am visiting family in Grapevine. My car broke down during Christmas and in the middle of a medical family emergency. The situation was quite stressful since my car was the only one we had to deal with this emergency. I called Richard on Christmas Day and although his shop was closed he returned my call in a few hours. On December 26, I went to his shop and explained my personal circumstances and the car problem. He right away troubleshooted and fixed the problem, which ended up being a loose clamp in the power steering pump. He charged me nothing! It is absolutely clear to me that Richard cares about his customers and his work. He believes that honesty and professionalism are the key to his business success and the loyalty of his clients. I needed to get my air conditioner recharged. Another shop had quoted $250-$300, and they would have to evacuate the system and then recharge it, something no other shop has ever told me before. I called Brown's and Mr. Brown is the one I talked to. He explained the benefits of doing the evacuation, but if I didn't want to pay for this, and only needed the A/C to get me through the summer, he would be happy to do just the recharge. Cost would be under $100. He got me in the very next day, even though I wasn't able to get my car to him first thing, like I had planned. When I went to pick up my car, the cost was under $100, as promised, and Mr Brown had even evacuated the A/C system before recharging it, because he knew that it would be better for the system in the long run! This same service would have cost 3 times at the otherwise unnamed Christian automotive repair shop. A/C went out in my GMC Acadia on a trip from DFW to Houston with 100 degree temperatures. Stopped at a repair shop on the way where they did some tests and said we needed a new compressor etc and would be around $2,000. No rentals available so we suffered through the trip. The Brown family rescued us from a nightmare situation with another auto repair shop. We were told by the other shop that something was wrong with our car and that it had been fixed, only to have the same problem reoccur a week later. When we returned, they said it would be another $1200 to fix what hadn't been previously fixed. At that point we remembered we'd had a great experience with the Browns several years ago. We called Richard and he painstakingly examined our car to determine what was actually wrong with it. Very honest and fair! Brought in a vehicle that appeared to be having electrical problems however they couldn't get it to duplicate! Turns out the new battery I installed a few days before had simply caused a slow relearn by the vehicle's computer and nothing was wrong. No charge for looking at it. Thank goodness for good, honest people like those at Brown's. To make quite a long story short, my car was making a strange noise. I took it to my uncle who said he thought it sounded like the door locks which reminded me that I had recently taken my car in to the dealership (AutoNation Ford) for a recall on the door locks. So I took it back to AutoNation and explained everything to them. They were CERTAIN it was not my door locks, but yet a $6,000 transmission that needed to be replaced. (come to find out Ford has extended the warranty on their transmission for my car, so it should have been covered anyway!) Thankfully I didn't feel right about this and found Brown's Auto Center here on Yelp and took the car over to her. I didn't give her any of the backstory on the car, just said it was making a funny noise. We went for a test drive and the first thing she said was it sounded like my door locks. I was shocked. So now I have to battle it out with the shady dealership, but Denise has offered to help me in this, and thanks to her I didn't have to fork over $6,000 for nothing. I would absolutely recommend Brown's Auto Center. They are honest and upfront, not just trying to make a buck. read more

I believe in the three strikes you're out rule. They talk a good game and I wanted to believe in their service quality. 1. I had two front axles replaced on my Lexus and it was making an unusual noise and I took it back and took a ride with the owner. He confirmed there was an uncommon noise. He wanted me to bring it in when I could leave it all day. 2. I decided to have the rear shocks replaced and after completing that task they would look at front end. Again, not enough time to do both in a day even though the shocks were two hour job. Less then a week later the air bags in the rear end had some kind of intermittent leak. A couple weeks go by and I bring it by to have oil changed and the previous two repairs looked at again. They didn't have time that day and told me if I could drop off the following day they could get to the described task. Dropped off the car at 7:00 AM and called after they opened to list the priority of repairs, first oil change, second rear air bags and third front end noise. I needed the car back by 12:00 and I got a call at 12:20 stating that they didn't have the time to get any thing completed today. That was the last straw! My opinion is: they don't value your time and they are not too interested in correcting previous repairs. PS ..My son took his car there for repairs and it took an additional day then what was stated. About a month later.......after I had the repairs done at another repair shop I returned to Brown's to discuss the reason for the noise and the cost that was incurred. The owner wrote me a check and apologized. I received a phone call from the owner a couple months later after reading my review on Yelp. He was honestly concerned about what had happened and wanted to do what was right and make me happy. That takes guts.....It is my opinion that he is a caring owner and wants to do the right thing. I will give him two additional stars for the way he has handled the situation. read more

I took my car in to get a note to give to the court to say my speedometer wasn't working. Mr Brown hookd up my car to his mobile computer and drove it around for 10 minutes. He checked all the sensors to make sure everything was working and found only the speedometer was not. Came back to the shop and printed out the written report for me with an estimate to fix it. Total cost $0 he had never seen me before in his life.What a great guy. read more

Took my vehicle to a franchise quick lube place to get an estimate on a water pump problem I was having. Their estimate seemed high so I took it to Brown's and they were incredibly helpful and honest about the problem I was having. Super nice people. They finished the repair in the same day and I ended up saving $500 from what I would have spent at the other place. If I could give them 0 stars I would. I went to them because they claim to be a Christian company and I read some good reviews. When I dropped off my vehicle I was told they would look at it that day. Three business days later I called them because I had heard nothing. I was told that a mechanic would call me to fill me in. That did not happen. I called again two business days later. They STILL had not looked at my vehicle. It had now been in their care for five days. The following day I finally got a cost estimate (that I was told included labor) and told them to go ahead with it but I requested a discount because they had held my vehicle for so long and had been unprofessional in their communication practices. The next business day an owner called me and told me they would not give me a discount because they "are behind." They have not been able to fix my vehicle because they are behind and claimed to be rushing it now because I complained. They said that normally they wouldn't be able to even look at my vehicle for another 3 (!) business days. Then they proceeded to raise the price an additional $120 claiming that the labor was not included in the last quote (even though I specifically remember them saying it was). All in all, they need a solid 10 business days to complete a minor fix on a vehicle. Anyone from a working, middle class family can't afford that, but they have no remorse. DO NOT GO HERE unless you want to have to pull teeth to get them to talk to you, wait for a week before they even look at your vehicle, and try to cheat you by jacking up the prices last minute. I know I will NEVER be going back! read more
