A real mens clothier. That's the bottom line with this place. The price point can probably turn most away but I look at it a bit differently. I figure that you can either go to Nordstrom, etc. and spend nearly the same amount and get not even close the amount of personal service. These people working here really know how to treat you. Wine while you shop, recommendations on suitable attire and descriptions about the designers even. I also love the fact that you can get a cool funky design or if you are leaning to something more conservative, they have that too. Once you've fell in love with that special jacket, shirt, or pants they will even alter the clothes to give you that perfect fit right in the store. No fussing around taking it somewhere else. I suspect these people go to great lenghts to take care of all their customers. Bottom line, if you want personal service and to feel like a million bucks, go here. read more

Absolutely horrible experience. I am appalled at how Bruce does business and would advise anyone to stay far away from his store. He did not deliver on time for my WEDDING and refused to take any responsibility for his unprofessionalism. My fiancé was so excited to get a custom tux for our wedding. After researching several places, we decided on Bruce Julian. We had a pleasant time designing the tux and picking out fabrics, colors, etc. We were told the tux would be ready 2 weeks prior to the wedding. However, when my fiancé called 2 weeks prior, he was told that it was still not ready. A week later, the tux was still not ready. Five days prior to the wedding I called the store, eager for an update, and was met with overwhelming hostility from Bruce who not only refused to give me any update, but told me they were too busy to look up my order. He kept telling me he would call me back in "2 minutes" and never did. Whenever I called back, he would get increasingly more irritated and just yell over me whenever I tried to speak. Finally, Bruce told me the tux would be ready Friday afternoon. Great. Except that my wedding was on Saturday, out of the state and they knew we needed it by Wednesday at the absolute latest. With no other option, we went scouring for a tux and finally found a store that appreciated our situation and was able to quickly alter a tux (shout out to Paul Simon in South Park for being a life saver!). Wedding planning is stressful enough and wondering whether you will have a tux to wear, while being berated by the owner, should not be an issue. read more

This is a great little shop in the Arbo that stocks all sorts of menswear including casual shirts, sweaters, suits, ties, shoes, hats, and etc. David has gotten a couple of custom shirts here as well as as several off-the-shelf items. This is one of the shops I like to stop in when I want to pick up a gift for him because I know I can find something he'll like. The owner and staff are very friendly, and on many occasions, they will offer a glass of wine or other refreshment while you shop. read more

I called this shop to inquire about the turnaround time on their tailoring service and was barked at over the phone by the owner that I should go across the street behind an ally if I wanted it fast and cheap. Bruce Julian is my 'go to' clothier. I started by purchasing beautiful hand-stiched suits from him. When I returned to work, many people noticed and asked where I bought them. I referred them to Bruce's website and word spread. I like the selection at Bruce's. I am conservative and want to grow and become more fashionable. Bruce has given me advice over the years to work towards that goal. He has a wide spectrum of clothes to choose from. When I changed employers, I needed to adapt to the new environment. A quick visit to Bruce's did the trick. I described the dress code. He pulled out options smoothly and efficiently. I was able to select clothes, try them on and get them sized quickly. Bruce's offerings change continually. I stop by periodically to see what new clothes have arrived. I rarely leave empty handed. No need to refresh my wardrobe. Visits to Bruce's take care of that. I really enjoy this store. They have excellent service. They don't pressure you and offer honest advice on style, color, fit, etc. They offer a range of clothes from formal to casual. Most are a bit unique, so you not look like everyone else wearing the same thing. The quality is excellent and I think a good value for what this various items cost. I felt like I was walking back in time when I walked into this unique place. I was searching for a quality suit different than what the chain stores offered. I found it and so much more here. And on top of all that, they serve the best bloody Mary I've had in my life here. I do not usually leave negative reviews, but I am making an exception for This situation. I am a wedding professional who agreed with Bruce to donate a suit for a styled shoot that would be published and help promote local businesses, but he bailed on me the day before the shoot telling me "today is not a good day" (after we had already discussed a pick up time) and hanging up on me as I tried to explain it was too late for me to find another suit as the shoot was the following day. When I tried to call again to clarify why I had to pick up today, I was hung up on again. I would have picked up the suit sooner, but Bruce continued to push back the times for pick up. Bruce was extremely rude to me as a fellow local business owner. I believe he is probably Great to his customers as the other reviews state, but as a fellow professional he was beyond rude. read more

Terrible quality if you're going to buy, do not prepay

"SUIT UP" is definitely a phrase I do not get to use enough. That being said, I was in need of a suit and looked up Bruce Julian via yelp and saw that the store had great reviews - wanted to give it a shot, and I was not disappointed one bit. I walked in after work around 5 pm and was immediately greeted by Diana, super -personable and ready to help me and my "suiting up" needs. Just by eyeing me in the few seconds of talking, we set out to find my size since I did not recall my jacket size. She was pretty spot on too with the first jacket I tried on... it fit like a glove. Nothing like a nice fitting jacket. As we were trying jackets on, Diana got a feel for what color, what occasion I needed the suit for, and just was fun to talk to her about how a suit should fit and all the options. SO MANY OPTIONS. She basically was grabbing suits off the rack left and right and we settled on two that I "felt good in" - then she took me to the back to meet Cheryl to make sure the "fit" was correct. It was great having so much expertise under one roof. If the suit didn't fit just right, Cheryl could work her magic and do some nipping and tucking to get me looking 007 caliber. Diana actually offered me a bloodymary.... which was super tempting especially after a long work-day. There is a small bar in the store!!! It was nice to find out that Bruce sells his own Bloody Mix - and he was actually in Charleston with his wife at a convention for it. Hopefully I get to meet him since his store is overflowing with his personality. It is not everyday you walk into a suit store and see star wars action figures displayed by the mannequins. Overall my experience here was a great one! Dilworth is lucky to have this small business right off of Selwyn with ample parking and a great selection of mensware. read more

If you are a man that likes to dress in style I highly recommend Bruce Julian! This sweet little shop located at the Arboretum is the home of unparalleled style and flair. They have a custom suit section where they will help you get the perfect fit (in-house alterations also!). The suits are the latest fabrics and styles. Gorgeous shirts, ties and bowties are also available. A nice selection of caps and fedoras to choose from also. They literally have everything to complete a whole outfit from head to toe!! This is a mens-only store ladies! But feel free to head to the bar in the back and have a glass of wine while you wait for your man. Well as fate would have it, events started to pop up that required me to dress slightly better than a 6th grader. Rather than go to a department store and just be annoyed at how ignorant I am to how humans are supposed to dress, I yelped a place that can take care of that for me. I found Bruce Julian Clothier and the Yelp reviews were spot on, too. I walked into the store and asked for help with a suit, and within 15 mins I had a suit that met my needs. The service was great. The employees were extremely helpful without being pushy. They found a great suit based on my needs, and tailored it to fit me really well. The shopping experience was easy and borderline brainless. Bruce, just like his father, understands quality. Over the years, I bought a few suits and ties from Bruce but a couple of weeks ago, I came in looking to purchase a suit for my upcoming wedding and as usual, they didn't disappoint. I've bought custom suits and shirts from Hong Kong, Milan, and had another "custom clothier" here in CLT make a few items. The latter was a complete and expensive disappointment. Visited with Bruce, and in no time had new sport coats and shirts on order and they are PERFECT! None of my previous ventures compare to Bruce and his team. Words cannot express how grateful my wife and I are with the Stellar job Bruce Julian performed on our son's jacket for prom. This wasn't an average project. Our son Ar'Mondre is 18 years old and has Osteogenesis Imperfects (OI) also known as brittle bone disease. Finding young adult like attire is an extreme challenge for us as our son is roughly 59lbs. God made it so we were able to find Bruce..... who is indeed a clothier... had never created child size masterpieces. Every custom store turned us down .... spanning from NC to Atl. Bruce said if we could get to him to Charlotte he'd do his best to assist. The smile on his face was worth more than a billion.
