Located on famous Franklin St across the street from UNC home of the Tarheels Place is small definitely not meat for eating there I went with the Chocolate Peanut Butter cookie in deluxe size which to me sounds giant especially given the price is $1.50 more Well it wasn't giant lol which is a bummer but I will say the cookie had a ton of butter given it we peanut butter with it being warm the cookie broke apart when I took it out for the pic lol read more

Lost a star from me, we ordered through DoorDash which is supposed to be their own personal delivery people and although we ordered at 9:30, someone called us about five minutes after we placed the order and told us that it would take a while so we waited. Eventually at around 11 o'clock we decided to call again to make sure that they were still working on it because the order had been set to complete even though we hadn't received anything. When we called they tried to tell us that we didn't have an order even though someone from the store literally called us and we told the phone number that had called and they realized we weren't lying. They lost our ticket. Thankfully they ended up finding it but after ordering at 9:30 the items didn't even arrive until 1 o'clock in the morning. I'm not happy about that. read more

Insomnia always hits. The warm delicious cookie that you are served with is consistently gooey and has the perfect amount of sweetness. You can never go wrong with a basic chocolate chip cookie: the chocolate just melts in your mouth and is the definition of a solid sweet treat after a meal. Just don't go, not worth it. Cashier on July 20th 2023 honestly ruined the experience. Been going to insomnia for a while, and while I do think the prices are definitely high for what it is, and the cookies are fairly average (used to be great but over time quality has definitely gone down significantly), when the craving hits late at night it is satisfying to get a nice warm cookie. So I was trying to use rewards to get a box of 6 cookies but the app was glitching so I walked in and asked. At first she was nice and said that they can't sue the rewards in store and if there were issues with the app I'd need to call customer service, but I may not be able to place an order given that they're closing soon. This was a bit confusing as they weren't closing for over an hour from then. Anyways I left the store and stood outside fiddling with the app, and it worked, so I placed an order and walked in. Now at this time there is quite literally nobody else in the whole store, just me, my friend, and the workers. She looks at me and says that I have to come back when the order was placed for (15 minutes from then) as it's not ready. I don't understand why she can't just place the cookies into the box like any other order. The cookies are ready, you have my order, yes I'm early but there's literally no prep work at all, just placing them into the box like if I ordered in the store. So absolutely no logic to this request. I'm not in the mood to fight so I leave walk around and come back. At this time it's two minutes before my pickup time. Again she's just being extremely annoying and there's nobody else in the store at all and she tells us that they're probably not ready as it's not time yet (it's literally 1 minute from pickup, just put the cookies in the darn box). In the time she's saying this her coworker walks to the back and yells that they are in fact ready, and brings us our box which has likely been ready for quite some time as it was on the warming trays and ready. The coworker hands them to us and I leave. Don't understand why the cashier was acting this way, we were not making any ridiculous requests and there was no traffic at all, and also if we had ordered in the store they would've put the ALREADY PREPARED cookies into the box, so I don't know what her problem was. Extremely frustrating experience adding to the reasons why seldom go to insomnia anymore including having put up with insanely long delivery times in the past (2ish hours or more for a place less than 2 miles away). Definitely don't recommend Unless you're willing to extremely overpay for a semi mediocre cookie (just go to any grocery store and warm the cookie up in the oven or microwave) and also just have a frustrating experience due to workers just being annoying for absolutely no reason. If I return it'll just be to use up the rewards that I've accumulated as I once was a fan of this place. read more

First time trying this place. The lone store employee (who told us he doesn't usually work at this location) was really friendly. He let us sample a couple of ice cream flavors before we decided on our two scoops. We ate a classic chocolate chunk cookie covered with the peach/cheesecake ice cream and the vegan bday cake ice cream. Sounds like a bit of a strange combo, but it was fantastic. I prefer Outsomnia, but these will do. I think it's funny reading some of the other reviews, which sound like Insomnia is this little Chapel Hill secret that nobody else knows about. They have these chain corporate cookie shops now all over the country in all of the college towns and I mean every single damn college town. Having said that, if you want a sweet tasty hot snack at 1 in the morning then there aren't many options in all of North Carolina, other than the awesomeness of Cook Out, but this right here, and gives the area a little bit of life and a little bit of vibrancy late on, and gives us all one extra reason to come down to Franklin Street and for that reason I round up these four star cookies, which lose one for being so corporate but adding one star for giving the nightlife a little extra something in the way of diabetes. read more

The worst I can say is that I've had a couple of cookies during different orders that were too soft or overcooked. Delicious, soft, rich cookies! We have visited insomnia cookies several times for an afternoon or late night treat. They are on the pricier side, but typical for a specialty cookie. Plus they are a good size that is satisfying. Their regular cookies are $1.65 and their larger, deluxe cookies are $3.30. I recommend the larger cookies, especially the s'mores flavor. Typically there is no line, so you can get your cookies quick (unless they are currently baking more). They do offer cookie ice cream sandwiches as well, but I have not tried them. I've been an insomnia cookie fan for years - and been to many different locations. Wish I could give this place zero stars. There was a line out the door at this point - around 20-30 people in line. And there was a full rack of baked cookies behind her. We asked about those cookies and she said that they were "too hot" - all while giving the most evil eye and tone dripping with condescension. She was incredibly combative - and it was clear that the kitchen is mismanaged since they couldn't anticipate or keep up with demand post-dinner time. Had she been more apologetic or empathetic - I would have carried on waiting and been more understanding. But she was rude straight off the bat - no apology for their subpar service. Awful. The flavors were simple but sounded good: stuff like smores, double chocolate chip, mint chocolate chip, etc. Even the name of the store carried a sort of appeal. However, I just couldn't like the cookies very much. I got a double chocolate chunk and a regular chocolate chip cookie. Both were too sweet, did not taste very chocolate-y, and the consistency was pretty average. I picked out a few of the chocolate chunks from the choco chip cookie to taste individually, and they were nice - tasted like Hershey's. The cashier who worked there was incredibly condescending (without good reason) and abrasive towards me and my friend, ruining the experience and my appetite for the cookies. We clarified about a deal that they were having (buy 1, get 2 free cookies) and he rolled his eyes and sighed while snapping "it's buy 2, get 3." First of all, that was an inaccurate statement, hence why he was unwarranted in being condescending towards us. Second of all, the attitude was completely unnecessary. Then, when I went to pay, the card reader had some chip malfunctions. Rather than asking me to use another card or explaining that to me, he said "You have no money. Your card has no money."
