Food was cold as the chafers were wide open. Meats over cooked and dry. Gravy was as thick as dough. Salads were wilted, mussels were just bad! Rolls cold right out of a bakery bag. Desserts were amateur. What a disappointment on Mother's Day! They use canned veggies and just don't season. Such a beautiful venue and great service but the Food and Beverage Manager needs to go. I decided to try Brumley's holiday buffet on Christmas Day. I didn't take photos of the food but captured the holiday decorations. My spouse and I along with my father ate at Brumley's for the holiday buffet. I was a bit disappointed about certain parts of the food and seating arrangements. First of all I was hoping to sit in one of the well styled dining rooms instead of being seated at a folding table with folding chairs chair in the hallway. The buffet consisted of raw trout, shrimp, seafood chowder that was too creamy for me to eat, salad table with lots of fixings, prime rib, roast beef, chicken cordon blue, sides included Mac and cheese, roasted potatoes, broccoli, and collared greens. They had rolls and butter. The dessert table had chocolate and red velvet cake slices along with frosted cookies. My chicken was very dry. I would have liked some other options such as a turkey, ham or even roasted chicken instead. The chocolate cake was very moist but also very rich. I couldn't finish it as the icing was too thick. Unless changes are made I will not attend the next holiday buffet. Not sure if it's worth $60 per person. read more

We took a quick trip to Greeneville for a little getaway and stayed at the General Morgan Inn. Brumleys is located inside the hotel and open for dinner. We came on a weekend before Valentine's Day. So, it was a very popular time for the restaurant. As luck would have it, we snagged a table because someone had cancelled their reservation. For this occasion, they had a special menu with several unique options. We ended up ordering a crab cake appetizer for 2, lamb chop lollipops, and surf & turf (steak, shrimp, scallops). The food was excellent. In fact, the steak was the best steak I have ordered in a long time. Great flavor, tender, grilled and seasoned perfectly. The sides were also really prepared well. Flavorful and delicious. Likewise, my wife really enjoyed the lamb entree. It's always a bit of a gamble to order lamb at a restaurant because it can be a small portion, overcooked, etc. But, she gambled correctly here. They didn't skimp on the portion and the meat was really good. Crab cake appetizer also was delicious and a generous portion. After eating our meals, we didn't have capacity to consume the deserts. But, a 10 person table near us did. We noticed that they were very talkative and, when the desserts came, it was silent. So, I assume the desserts were quite good! As far as atmosphere, I suspect this is one of the nicest restaurants in town. We were dressed casually. Some people were dressed up. It is an interesting setting because this building has been a restaurant for hundreds of years and has a lot of history. It feels like you are dining in an old mansion or hotel. Overall: I'm very happy that I tried Brumleys. Very good and memorable meal. Recommended! read more

Brumley's is just a lovely place to dine and relax. The good is excellent and the decor is vintagely attractive. The restaurant is set downtown in the hotel. The hotel is elegant and Brumley's had the same special feel. Here you will feel welcomed and served like your visit is a very special occasion. The restaurant has different rooms in which to dine. The bar is attractive and has a lot of classic wood interiors. The bar feels elegant even with large TV's. There are several dinning rooms all of which have a unique design. No matter where you eat you will dine in a very well decorated and inviting room. The staff here is extraordinary friendly and professional without being stuffy. The menu is small but has something for everyone. You start the meal with a basket of sour dough rolls. The rolls are soft in texture and have a predominant sour dough taste. We started with a side of onion rings. The rings are large with a nice firm thick piece of onion inside. The breading is thicker, crunchy and only slightly greasy. Onion rings were fabulous! My wife had the chicken schnitzel. The chicken was moist. The breading was slightly seasoned and crunchy. Her dish was delicious! I had the spring ravioli. The vegetables were very fresh. The pasta was firm and nicely cooked. Give Brumley's a try if you have a special occasion or just want an elegant dinning experience. read more

My family and I ate here Friday night and when I made us the reservation, I was not aware that there was a limited menu. I have dined here many times but never when They had a limited menu as I don't typically enjoy not having the whole menu for options. We went to dinner this evening to celebrate my parents 47th wedding anniversary. There was six of us in our party, including a child which she ended up having the chicken fingers and fries and luckily for her she ended up having the best meal out of all of us. Two of us had the chicken schnitzel which I can only describe as completely underwhelming. The thin overcooked chicken sat upon absolutely bare noodles with no sauce on them whatsoever. The only sauce that was on the plate was lightly drizzled around the edge, so I had to ask for more sauce because I don't like dry cooked noodles. The chicken was so hard and all they give you was a butter knife to cut it with, and there was no way that was gonna happen, there was a fried egg on top that was completely overcooked. I think I got maybe a quarter of a teaspoon of yolk out of it and to top it off there was absolutely no seasoning. I had to salt my food three times just to add some flavor and like I said two of us had this and we both had the exact same experience. Two other people had the prime rib, which was such a letdown. Half the meat was pure fat and not the edible kind... My husband, who absolutely loves beef fat had to cut it off and put it on another plate because it was so bad. He said the meat tasted like it came from a buffet and not from an upscale restaurant and his vegetables were hard and barely cooked and also he said it was really underseasoned. Another one of our diners had the pork shank, which is usually a complete favorite of all of ours. She said that the meat was very tender but she barely got any polenta, and her veggies were hard and barely cooked (not worth$52) All around it was one of the worst experiences we've ever had at Brumley's and like I said, we do typically love their food and love having the chef back. I am wondering if when they do a limited menu, the chef is able to take time off and just have the rest of the staff cook the meals... I don't know that to be true. I'm just wondering. I am also wondering if anybody else has a shared experience like this. This experience has made us not want to celebrate at this restaurant any longer considering there are so many amazing restaurants around town and in J.C.... And also, I was really bummed that the limited menu did not contain the fillet or even their burgers which are actually pretty good. read more

We had six people last night at Brumley's. We two of us had prime rib which 70% of it was pure fat. I had the pork shank which was good but the vegetables meaning carrots were hardly any cheese grits and two others had the chicken strudel, which was so hard to cut we had to ask for a steak knife, and the egg that they put on top that was supposed to be soft and runny was a hockey puck. Don't know what happened where the cook was or even if there was a cook that cooked our food unfortunately, the quality has gone down tremendously read more

Went back my last night at the hotel since it was wonderful the first night and I didn't want to drive anywhere else. Started with a cup of the soup of the day; a chicken, rice, broccoli thick soup that was delicious. Treated myself to 8oz filet, which came with asparagus, mashed potatoes and carrots. The steak was exactly what I consider to be "medium." One of the best I've had anywhere in a long time! Vegetables all perfectly prepared. This night I saved room (or made room) for dessert: server recommended creme brûlée and it didn't disappoint! Really enjoyed my stay at the hotel and my meals here! read more

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Brumley's a few nights ago. Great experience! The potato cakes were a fantastic appetizer. My wife ordered the mushroom soup. It wasn't to her taste, but I enjoyed it quite a bit! For our main courses, she had the duck and I had the schnitzel. Presentation was beautiful and everything tasted great. The portions were more than enough, so we even took some home for later. Our waitress, Amber, was super friendly and took wonderful care of us. We will be back and look forward to staying at the Inn sometime. read more

Do not order the shrimp and grits! I ordered it this evening and was very disappointed to find the shrimp still had their shells on. I've eaten shrimp and grits and the shrimp have had their tails on, but all four of the jumbo shrimp had their tails and shells. It tasted wonderful, but was very messy to eat since you were constantly picking shell out of your mouth. The fact that the sauce was poured over the shrimp with their shells just made it worse. When I complained to the waitress, she told me lots of customers have been complaining. She said the wrong order of shrimp came in and this was how the kitchen was serving it. This is wrong. There is no reason the kitchen staff couldn't remove the shells before plating the dish. Especially if they have received numerous complaints. Not sure I'll eat here again. read more

Delicious late dinner while staying at the hotel. I had tacos and the flavor was amazing. The meat was brisket and they had crunchy potato sticks on top. One of the sides was a corn salad, so delicious. The other was black beans which was also good. Other family member had the general chicken sandwich. She also enjoyed it. Excellent waitress too. Very welcoming environment and Covid safe, tables far apart and staff all masked. We really enjoyed our dinner. read more

We have lived here for 5 weeks and it was our anniversary so we decided to try what should be the best food in town. When we sold our home to move to Tennessee, our agent asked us what town we were moving to and we told her Greeneville. She bought us a very generous gift card for Brumley's (thankfully we don't have to spend all the $ at Brumley's) because she thought it was the best they had to offer here, unfortunately, she was wrong. We started out with 2 cocktails and a shrimp cocktail. The 2 cocktails were good, mixed properly and strong. The shrimp cocktail was not a traditional fine dining shrimp cocktail, it was okay but not the best. We ordered the prime rib 10 oz, and the prime top sirloin. They both came with mashed potatoes that were whipped into a gum like consistency, I guess they have never heard of a ricer. The vegetable sides were overlooked because they were sub-par. They did serve bread before the meal but is was very mediocre compared to the bread at at true upscale restaurant. The top sirloin was so salty I thought I would have had a stroke if I ate any more than a bite or 2. The prime rib was an absolute disaster, half of it was fat. My wife ordered a 10oz and it appeared to be a 16 oz ( 8 ounces of pure fat and 8 ounces of meat that tasted nothing like a true prime rib). My wife tried to cut the fat half off and had a difficult time even with the steak knife that was provided. I was about to get my Benchmade out but she finally got it!. The waitress returned and asked how the meal was and we told her it was inedible. She said she would tell her manager so she could take care of it. She left the dining room and we could hear her in the entry way telling the manager very loudly that the prime rib was " too fatty and the steak was way too salty"...Loud enough for the entire restaurant to hear...classy!. The manager finally showed up and asked what was wrong, we told her and she asked of she could bring something else (you must be joking!) we said no and that we would pay for the shrimp cocktail and 2 drinks and that was all. We paid our over priced bill and left, never to return. What a disappointment this place was. The atmosphere was nice and the drinks were good, but that is where it stopped. So, my husband and I stayed at the General Morgan Inn and met a friend we haven't seen in years. We invited her to dinner at Brumley's. Both my husband and my friend ordered burgers, I am gluten free so I went with the rack of lamb. The lamb came out very undercooked. I am used to ordering lamb and understand that it should be pink. This was actually still cold in the center. I sent it back and whn it returned I realize d that it was not much better. For 44 dollars I would expect a good cut and properly done. There was literally a tablespoon of meat to each piece, the rest was fat and a bit raw. My husband and friend also said that the burgers they ordered were not very good either. The worst part was that 30 mins after eating the lamb I became ill. The restaurant was closed so I was not able to tell them and we had to leave early the next morning. I would caution ordering any meat that needs to be cooked properly. The worst thing in the world is to be on a trip and have to deal with a sick stomach for several days after an expensive meal. Gorgeous luxe Lobby! We had a wedding dinner for 10 in one of the dinning rooms. It felt private and Very Luxurious. The brussel sprouts and platter appetizers were delicious. (Skip the fried cheese). We had chicken schnitzel, scallops but they weren't tasty. Others had prime rib which was huge and pink. Not sure of the taste. The serving staff were Very nice but didn't notice we had no forks for the cake. But it was still the perfect spot for photos of a special event. (Though quite dark). Stopped in while downtown for activities and decided to treat my grandkids to a good meal. These burgers were HUGE and definitely generous portions of fries! Wasn't sure I'd like the special sauce so they brought it on the side--now I'm addicted! Going to make this a regular routine! After a long day on the road i just wanted a good meal. I ordered a $20 Prime Rib Dip about 15 mins before close. I took the food to my room and realized there was no Au Jus as the menu states there should be. I went back downstairs 2 minutes after closing time, and told the host it was missing. He went back to get some and came back and said the kitchen was closed and I couldn't get any. However there was a couple sitting at a table waiting for the meal yet so I know the kitchen wasn't closed. I will not come back here again even though I will be back in town for work often. read more

We were introducing friends to a new place, made reservations early or 7 pm seating, downloaded a menu, chose our meal & ready for a great evening out & terrific meal. That did not happen. We were NOT told when making reservations that there would only be 3 entrees available. The selections were cooked ahead, not of a consistent quality or size when served, very small selection but still pricey & very unhappy guests with many negative comments. I called the restaurant & left a message for Rachel, the manager, 4 times. NO RETURN CALL. We will not go back again. Sorry to see it as it was the only decent place other than Aubreys to eat in Greenville TN. A real wasteland for upscale dining. read more

I cannot imagine another place I would recommend more highly than Brumley's in a 4 county range in any direction! The location is in a quaint, boutique hotel that front Main St, right off Church. The entry is off the lobby of the hotel and when you step into Brumley's there is a delightful, intimate bar to the left with limited seating but in a very good, high touch way where the bartender is able to really be observant and engaged with everyone without being overtaxed. The hostess, Cindy, who seated us was also our waitress. Cindy gave us the option of table or booth and we, as always, chose a booth. It was a 4 person banquette which allowed us to sit adjacent which we enjoy tremendously for both conversation and sharing across our plates. There were two other couples dining in the 'library' with us, a room that initially appeared to be done in tromp l'oeil of various tomes, but upon paying it a bit more attention, realized it was actually spines of real books that had been mounted on the painted 'shelves' going up (my estimate) 16-18 feet to the massive, period moldings and trim that spanned the ceiling. Quiet conversations were not easily heard and we appreciated having the delightful view from the oversized windows facing Main Street and the lovely interior. My husband chose the Caesar and I selected the Vanilla Pear salad. His Caesar was well done and a hearty portion. My Vanilla Pear though...shut up and take my money! A delightful and well thought out blend of flavors and textures that took it past 'regular salad' and into the stratosphere of exceptionally special. I would like to see it as an entree salad with scallops. I ordered the beef tenderloin and asked for a rare to medium rare level of cooking and it was exactly as I desired! My husband opted for the bone-in pork chop and it was done medium and absolutely perfect! My husband wanted the sides featured with my protein and I liked each of those paired with his so we swapped plates but kept our choice of entrees when they arrived. We love to dress up when we go out and Brumley's is perfect for that! However there was a man in nice jeans and a collared shirt and he appeared equally at home. As a true, gracious Southern home dining experience would be...come as you are, we are happy to see you...seemed to be the vibe. Go, spend 90 minutes to two hours and enjoy a series of delightful courses with fresh, local ingredients in a fabulous, unforgettable spot! read more

We had dinner in the club Room the night we stayed over in Greeneville. Although, I made reservations, they were unnecessary (even on a Saturday night ) because the room was nearly empty at 6:30 p.m. when we arrived. It has a very warm, cozy and elegant feel, with the exception of the four large TV's playing sports. I think they are out of place for the atmosphere. Our server provided outstanding service from start to finish. My wife and I each had a glass of wine. They had a fairly extensive list, but we chose from a short list displayed on the table. My wife had the chicken schnitzel with pasta, and I had the 6oz. filet mignon with whipped potatoes, broccolini and roasted carrots. My steak (prepared medium) was perhaps one of the best I've ever had. My wife tried it and wholeheartedly agreed. Her schnitzel, which I tried, was also perfectly seasoned and tender. We shared the creme brûlée for dessert. It was more creamy than custard. We both agreed it was wonderful. We could have eaten two more! The entire dining experience was well worth the cost, which was approximately $100 for everything I described above. We would highly recommend it. Of course in all fairness, there wasn't another nice restaurant anywhere else in the vicinity. read more

She convinced me that she had an authentic cheer to her attitude that was as unmistakable as was the Huge quality of what we ordered tonight. I will not call that a hamburger! It was a BEEF Burger! Burger Night on Friday's are the best! Burgers are fantastically delicious! Fries are fat and crispy! Wait staff is attentive, accommodating and friendly. We always save room for dessert and coffee. Pot de Creme is our favorite...chocolatey and rich! We've also had cheese cake and apple pie! Both are equally as delicious. We were in town for a few hours to visit the Andrew Johnson NPS sites and the visitor center directed us here for lunch. We knew it was in a historic hotel, but we were absolutely blown away by how beautiful the lobby is when we walked in. The restaurant space was also beautiful. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the food was wonderful. Two of us ordered the crispy risotto and one ordered tomato soup and a baked potato. The risotto was lightly fried, which was a unique find. The value for the food and service was great, and we were so happy to have stumbled upon it. read more

I took my wife to what I was hoping would be a nice upscale Christmas Buffet. After looking on line I found Brumley's Restaurant in Greenville, TN. Their menu caught my attention Prime Rib, Oysters, Shrimp and more. I gave them a call and was assured we would not be disappointed after all it was ONLY $48.00/person. I was ok with the price as I'm the one that chose to go knowing that. When we arrived for out 1:30 reservation. I was impressed at the décor and decorations. We were seated at out table. I went to the cold Seafood Bar only to find there were no Oysters as their menu on line indicated. I then went to the soup station only to find Chicken & Rice (Not the Seafood Bisque) again as their on line menu stated! I asked our waitress and her reply was she didn't know why there was none out. I asked to speak to a Manager and (Becky) came to my table and when I asked her the same question I was told "I will bring up your concerns in our Wednesday Mgr Meeting) but did offer to "comp" our desserts on our next visit! In my option Becky should have done something for this visit as there might not be a second if this is how a concern is handled with a customer sitting there. This restaurant is located in the General Morgan Hotel. Hotel is amazing. The restaurant is the only fine dining restaurant in Greeneville, TN. We got in late on Friday so we ordered at the restaurant and they brought the food to our room. Great service. I ordered the Duck appetizer and the tuna salad. The tuna was obviously frozen and parts of it was still frozen. Salad was not good at all. The duck was ok but probably should be on something different then the bread it was served on. My husband had the prime rib and he would have given it a 3 out of 5 stars. Creme brulee was good but the top sugar layer was so thin it was soft. They have a small selection of wine and alcohol if you drink. I expected better but maybe it would have been if we could have sat down and ate. It's definately not kid friendly. read more
