I decided to try Brumley's holiday buffet on Christmas Day. I didn't take photos of the food but captured the holiday decorations. My spouse and I along with my father ate at Brumley's for the holiday buffet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was a bit disappointed about certain parts of the food and seating arrangements.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]First of all I was hoping to sit in one of the well styled dining rooms instead of being seated at a folding table with folding chairs chair in the hallway.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The buffet consisted of raw trout, shrimp, seafood chowder that was too creamy for me to eat, salad table with lots of fixings, prime rib, roast beef, chicken cordon blue, sides included Mac and cheese, roasted potatoes, broccoli, and collared greens. They had rolls and butter. The dessert table had chocolate and red velvet cake slices along with frosted cookies. My chicken was very dry. I would have liked some other options such as a turkey, ham or even roasted chicken instead. The chocolate cake was very moist but also very rich. I couldn't finish it as the icing was too thick. Unless changes are made I will not attend the next holiday buffet. Not sure if it's worth $60 per person.

We took a quick trip to Greeneville for a little getaway and stayed at the General Morgan Inn. Brumleys is located inside the hotel and open for dinner. We came on a weekend before Valentine's Day. So, it was a very popular time for the restaurant. As luck would have it, we snagged a table because someone had cancelled their reservation. For this occasion, they had a special menu with several unique options. We ended up ordering a crab cake appetizer for 2, lamb chop lollipops, and surf & turf (steak, shrimp, scallops). The food was excellent. In fact, the steak was the best steak I have ordered in a long time. Great flavor, tender, grilled and seasoned perfectly. The sides were also really prepared well. Flavorful and delicious. Likewise, my wife really enjoyed the lamb entree. It's always a bit of a gamble to order lamb at a restaurant because it can be a small portion, overcooked, etc. But, she gambled correctly here. They didn't skimp on the portion and the meat was really good. Crab cake appetizer also was delicious and a generous portion. After eating our meals, we didn't have capacity to consume the deserts. But, a 10 person table near us did. We noticed that they were very talkative and, when the desserts came, it was silent. So, I assume the desserts were quite good! As far as atmosphere, I suspect this is one of the nicest restaurants in town. We were dressed casually. Some people were dressed up. It is an interesting setting because this building has been a restaurant for hundreds of years and has a lot of history. It feels like you are dining in an old mansion or hotel. Overall: I'm very happy that I tried Brumleys. Very good and memorable meal. Recommended!

Brumley's is just a lovely place to dine and relax. The good is excellent and the decor is vintagely attractive. The restaurant is set downtown in the hotel. The hotel is elegant and Brumley's had the same special feel. Here you will feel welcomed and served like your visit is a very special occasion. The restaurant has different rooms in which to dine. The bar is attractive and has a lot of classic wood interiors. The bar feels elegant even with large TV's. There are several dinning rooms all of which have a unique design. No matter where you eat you will dine in a very well decorated and inviting room. The staff here is extraordinary friendly and professional without being stuffy. The menu is small but has something for everyone. You start the meal with a basket of sour dough rolls. The rolls are soft in texture and have a predominant sour dough taste. We started with a side of onion rings. The rings are large with a nice firm thick piece of onion inside. The breading is thicker, crunchy and only slightly greasy. Onion rings were fabulous! My wife had the chicken schnitzel. The chicken was moist. The breading was slightly seasoned and crunchy. Her dish was delicious! I had the spring ravioli. The vegetables were very fresh. The pasta was firm and nicely cooked. Give Brumley's a try if you have a special occasion or just want an elegant dinning experience.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Brumley's a few nights ago. Great experience! The potato cakes were a fantastic appetizer. My wife ordered the mushroom soup. It wasn't to her taste, but I enjoyed it quite a bit! For our main courses, she had the duck and I had the schnitzel. Presentation was beautiful and everything tasted great. The portions were more than enough, so we even took some home for later. Our waitress, Amber, was super friendly and took wonderful care of us. We will be back and look forward to staying at the Inn sometime.

The steal was tough, it was not cooked properly. The prime rib was flavorless. Definitely not worth the money.

Good food and service but menu is a bit limited. Overall a good place for more upscale food in Greeneville.

I found Chestnut on Yelp and decided to wander in. The space has this elevated modern rustic vibe with a southern twist and a little bit of sass. They even sell shirts that say neither hoity nor toity, which cracked me up. Honestly, the atmosphere was great, but our waitress was the real star. She was absolutely phenomenal and looked after us perfectly. My palate was pretty fried, so I started with a Bloody Mary to wake up. Truth be told, it was just okay. The house mix had an odd flavor that nobody at the table could quite identify, and it seriously lacked spice. It was just kinda bland. I noticed a bottle of Firewalker hot sauce on the table, and splashing that in helped a little bit. After that, I transitioned to a mimosa. You really cannot mess up a mimosa too much, and it was a solid, reliable second drink. For the main event, I ordered the southern chicken and waffles. This came with a fried chicken breast sitting on golden malted waffles, smothered in sausage gravy, and drizzled with chipotle honey. It was a really great dish. The kitchen did a solid job with the fry on the chicken, and the gravy had a nice flavor. It leaned a little on the sweet side because of the honey, but it was not totally overdone. The real sleeper hit of the morning, though, was the side of cheesy grits. Those grits were absolute heaven. They were incredibly creamy and perfectly seasoned. If you go, you have to order them. Chestnut is in a great location, and despite the weak Bloody Mary, it was a stellar visit.

Worth Planning Your Asheville Trip Around…read more As a Bay Area foodie, navigating around San Francisco's incredible restaurant scene taught me to appreciate thoughtful cooking, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality. Chestnut had been on my Asheville dining list long before I arrived, and after spending several days exploring Boone, Blowing Rock, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, I made it my dinner splurge before heading home. It absolutely delivered. A quick tip: skip the hunt for street parking and head straight to the garage across the street. The first hour is free, and downtown Asheville can be congested with both vehicle and foot traffic. I arrived around 5:30 without a reservation and was warmly greeted by the hostess, who offered me a table or a seat at the bar. Asheville was surprisingly hot and humid compared to the cool mountain weather I'd been enjoying, so the air-conditioned dining room was an easy choice over the sidewalk patio. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Fresh flowers, warm lighting, elegant stone countertops, comfortable booths, tables, and bar seating create an atmosphere that feels polished without being stuffy. What stood out most was the mix of guests. There were locals greeting staff by name, couples enjoying date night, families with children, and older guests gathering with friends. It felt welcoming and comfortable for everyone. As a solo diner, the bar was the perfect choice. I enjoyed all the energy of the restaurant while still having a peaceful dining experience. I started with a glass of Brut Rosé from Spain. Crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, it was the perfect way to settle in after a warm afternoon. Then came the Lobster Bisque. As someone who has made lobster bisque from scratch, I know the work that goes into creating a great one. Chestnut's version, made with Oak & Grist Reserve Cream and finished with fresh chives, was outstanding. Rich, silky, velvety, and loaded with tender pieces of lobster. If I'm being incredibly picky, I would have enjoyed just a touch more sherry, but that's purely personal preference. The smaller serving vessel kept the bisque hot from first spoonful to last, which I appreciated. My only complaint was that I wanted a larger serving because it was that good. For my entrée, I ordered the 4-ounce Petite Filet. The steak arrived cooked a perfect medium rare with excellent flavor and texture. It was served with butter-whipped mashed potatoes, haricot verts, a crisp potato gaufrette, red wine demi-glace, and chive butter. Every component was thoughtfully prepared. The demi-glace added richness without overwhelming the beef, while the potato gaufrette provided a delicate crunch. My only minor critique was that the plate could have been served a bit hotter, but the quality of the food more than made up for it. One of the highlights of the evening was the service. Taylor, part of the management team, was personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. After my sparkling wine, he suggested a half-glass pour of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir since I was driving. Excellent recommendation. The wine was elegant, earthy, and beautifully balanced, pairing perfectly with the filet. As the evening progressed, the restaurant filled quickly. Watching the staff greet regulars by name and efficiently manage the growing crowd spoke volumes about how well-run the restaurant is. You could tell many guests were repeat customers, which is always a good sign. After dinner, I attempted to walk off my meal through downtown Asheville, but the summer heat quickly convinced me to head back to my hotel. I left full, happy, and already thinking about that lobster bisque. For a Bay Area foodie who plans entire trips around memorable meals, Chestnut exceeded expectations. Great food, thoughtful service, an inviting atmosphere, and a dining experience that felt special without trying too hard. If you're visiting Asheville, put Chestnut on your list. Life is too short for mediocre meals, and this one is worth making time for.

One of the first things we noticed was actually the one big negative this place has and why I can't give this any higher than what this is getting. So this was a cute little place where you could even get some outdoor seating, but because of the bustle this place has gotten, you can notice right away how cramped this can get. Over at some tables, you might get a little trapped if you sit their at the wrong time. It works against waiters and waitresses too because they could easy bump into tables and spill a bit of food. For example, I did notice a few chips fall on the floor on its way to a table. So if you choose to eat in, do keep that in mind. That or either eat outside or get it delivered. That being said, everything else about the place was pretty good. My brother and I got large lemonades, and their idea of large fits! We got jumbo cups of the stuff which is nice on a hot summer day. For lunch, I had the triple grilled cheese, no tomato and extra bacon while my brother went with the Reuben. When we get the food, my brother said a little prayer of grace before we began eating. I totally devoured that sandwich like it took my lunch money. It was a good sandwich with a nice char to the bread. As for the Reuben, my brother replied it was alright. Nothing bad, but nothing spectacular either. That was about fair. So overall the food's good. So is the attitude of the employees as well. I have no complaints with their customer service. So overall, good spot to eat as long as you don't mind it being a bit cramped. This is about a 3.5/5 and is what this would get if half-stars were available on Yelp. For now though, it has to settle for a 3.
