Have been hankering for a place like this in Richmond. The food is good quality, though the staff took some time to warm up from the first time we came here since it was quite busy and it seemed like there were staff-in-training. In order of our favourites, we'd order the tagliatelle, halibut risotto, pork belly, burrata salad, and definitely the scroll croissant buns (not pictured). Bruno's got covered parking that is part of the Versante Hotel. There's also a bar that I'd like to try going randomly one night. I was really looking forward to try Bruno since this is one of the only fine dining places in Richmond, but I have to say the experience was not the best. Food was great but the service was lacking. We were first served with some bread. The server/busser put down the bread without stating what it was so we assumed it was complimentary bread (since we didn't order any bread). We later learned from the bill that we were charged for it but we were okay with paying since it was probably one of my favourite dishes of the night. We had pork belly and half dozen oysters to start. Both dishes were great, highly recommend trying out the oysters torched. Time for our entrees - the server brought out some mussels and dropped it off our table. We clarified that we did not order any mussels, she apologized and took them away. Couple minutes later, another server came back with the same plate and stated those were our mussels. We explained again that we did not order any mussels, he took it away. Later, the server brought out Arctic Char, another dish we did not order. We explained that that was not ours and there must have been some mixed up with another table's order, since we were provided with 3 wrong dishes at this point (including the bread). We got Grilled Wagyu Flank Steak and Uni Ikura King Crab Risotto for entrees, both dishes tasted great. The night ended with the server giving us a bill that was incorrect. We were charged for 2 orders of the pork bellies (we only had one order) and the Arctic Char (we did not order this dish). After all the wrong dishes that were provided throughout the night, I assumed they would at least confirm the bill before giving it to us, but I guess that wasn't the case. The manager gave us one complimentary round of drinks as an apology and explained the server was not familiar with the menu. It's been a while since my wife and I have tried a seafood restaurant. Indeed there are so many to pick from and we have eaten from the benches next to go fish on Granville, to the silver service of some of the great seafood restaurants in downtown Vancouver. But the seafood brunch at Bruno's is a stand-out, purely based on quality and price. I brought my sister here for her birthday. The restaurant was beautiful. When we arrived, there weren't too many people so it was nice and quiet, good for chatting. Our server was very friendly, almost a bit too friendly. We ordered the following: scroll loaf, lemon grilled broccolini, orchard burrata salad, truffle potatoes, cripsy pork tomahawk. The scroll loaf was good, the butter was smooth and flavorful, it went really well with the loaf. Tbh everything else was ok. My next fav thing was the broccolini, but you can never go wrong with broccolini. The burrata salad would've been better if there weren't so many beets. It almost felt like a beet salad, wish there were more greens in there. I honestly didn't really taste much of the truffle for the potatoes, so it was just ok. I didn't enjoy the tamahawk. There wasn't much flavor even with the sauce. I have to say it was very crispy though but that was it. Went for Mother's Day brunch with a few families. While the food was good the service was lacking. Mother in law was told there was no decaf coffee and another mom at the table was told they were "way too busy to make a cappuccino". Ok I guess I can maybe understand they don't want to make specialty coffees but you can't push a button to brew some decaf??? And really let's be honest.... It was a buffet brunch so it's not like they had to take orders or serve food. All they were doing was clearing plates. I have served/bartended in my 20's and 30's and worked in everything from banquets to high end steak houses and buffets are the easiest. You are a glorified busser. First time going to Bruno and definitely not last. Food was excellent! Cannot pinpoint any complain. We tried the Bruno experience, worth the price! It had so many options you get to try so many things on the menu. The pork belly is to die for! Super soft!!! Our waiter, Ricardo told us they braise it for 24 hours. The summer salad is so fresh! I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about this restaurant and after finally visiting Bruno to see for myself - I understand why. To start off, I came here to celebrate my sister and I's birthday back in February. The second we arrived we had a bad experience with the parking as they only offered us valet parking and didn't tell us where else we could park. Afterwards we found out that there is a parking lot option which cost money which was surprising as this never really happens in Richmond; especially at a restaurant. Now onto the restaurant and the food. The ambience of the restaurant was great it was super modern and the interior design was absolutely beautiful. 5/5 on that. BUT the service (mainly the manager) was atrocious. So basically what happened was we ordered a bunch of appetizers and mains and as we are used to the regular western style restaurant where the food comes out course by course; this restaurant had brought out everything all at once but not only that, after ordering, it only took around 5 minutes for all our dishes to come out at ONCE.. the bartender hadn't even brought out our drinks yet nor water. I understand that in some cultures it is common for all dishes to come out at once so that everybody can share and eat but this restaurant did not seem to be of that type of vibe. We were extremely shocked to see the food come out in this fashion and although the flavour of the food was tasty, it seemed like the food was pre made or heated up. The whole experience felt rushed and like we were eating fast food. I kid you not, since everything came out so fast we finished and left within 45 minutes. We were also very confused why this happened to us as we saw other tables get their food in an orderly manner. We kindly asked our waiter why this had happened and how food could be prepared and served so quickly and he was unsure how to answer and brought his manager out. The manager was not understanding at all and she kept on blaming it on our waiter who had no fault in this. The manager also kept saying the food comes fast because there are a lot of chefs and that she was looking over all the cooks and saw that it was freshly prepared. She was literally the manager of the restaurant though and we saw her standing outside in clear view so I don't know how and when she could've been in the kitchen watching over the chefs. Anyways, despite all that.. even if there are a lot of chefs working on the dishes it still takes longer than 5 minutes to cook a dish. I've heard Bruno is one of the most sought-after restaurants in Vancouver recently and I was excited to experience it tonight. Unfortunately, it looks like it is another overrated restaurant by so-cal KOLs. The arrival experience from the parking was terrible. There was no clear direction to the restaurant. We went through a back of house staircase as the elevator doesn't have any indicator for the restaurant. We arrived at a hotel lobby and have to ask again for direction. This is not a proper arrival experience for an "high end" restaurant, must be my perception was wrong. Food is actually good, the food concept was well defined as happy sharing dishes. The big plates worth an Instagram post and is perfect for foodie. Noted that for the small table, the server had to move items around whenever they need to land a dish. The failure of the night was at managerial presence. The server of our table and the bus girl are very passionate about their role, but lack of manager's direction. The placement of utensils and glassware were all over the place. The main dishes arrives at a bad timing, with the temperature being luke warm. Staffs roles were messed up and server has to walk around to replenish water while the bus girl has to introduce dishes. Clearly the manager did not do his/her job properly and created service lapses. We expressed our disappointment to our server when there were sands at our shellfishes, which was natural, we simply wants to inform the kitchen. A manager arrived at our table to apologize. Two complimentary cocktails were offered after the main course (come on, we ordered wine and you give me extra alcohol at the end of the meal, I surely don't want a ticket for DND). I finally realized the lady roaming the restaurant all night is the restaurant manager. To my surprised is that the manager stated that she had 17 years of overseas experience and provide such service standard. Every restaurant has their unique ambience, but with the current management team, it will be difficult for Bruno to continue to excel in Vancouver s highly competivie environment. AYCE OYSTERS + BRUNCH. This place is one of the newest places in Richmond, and they have an amazing weekend brunch menu. It's a set menu however the oysters are AYCE! (90min time). We surely enjoyed the meal here and I 100% would come back! PROTIP: Oysters are only served in the 3rd section, ask for the next round of oysters the min the first touches the table as it takes a while and you only got 90 mins! * $75/person ~ this set comes with a lot of different courses that are meant to be shared, and its quite the delicious menu with loads of variety! Come hungry and make sure to be ready to feast on the oysters! * Chilled Shellfish ~ this came with prawn cocktail, marinated mussels, clams, scallops and oysters. The mussels were fantastic and the clams were so good with the garlic chunks. The prawns were outstanding with the cocktail sauce pairing and everything was fresh! * Tuna and crab poke ~ The poke as fresh and the crab was delicious with the tuna. Nicely seasoned and the red onions added a nice flvour on top of the poke. * Burrata salad ~ the burrata wasn't as smooth as I expected it to be but the balsamic glazed was good as it was a tad sweet, and the candied walnuts added a good crunch to the tomatoes and salad! * Salmon Lobster Benny ~ I'D COME BACK JUST FOR THIS! The benny was so good and delicious, the lobster and salmon was the perfect mixed ratio, and the hollandaise sauce was chef kiss! Came with a load of bacon and sausages! * Liege waffle ~ I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS, it was so airy and smooth. It was sweet and super good with thee pistacio mascarpone cream and wild berry compote. Id come back just for this too. * Crispy brussel sprouts ~ These were delicious, the parmesan was so good with it and the overall seasoning used was delicious. * Truffle potatoes ~ these were crazy when it came to the truffle oil used. After seeing several gorgeous photos of the food at Bruno I was finally convinced to make a visit! And was very lucky to to find a reservation for their first seating on the long weekend. They are always booked up completely on the weekends, so plan well ahead! Upon entrance the staff are very professional and friendly - honestly is one of the most attentive fine dining restaurants I've been to considering how busy the restaurant gets too. We ordered Iberico Tree + Torched Motoyaki Sauce Oysters + Kurobuta Pork Belly + Dungeness Crab Croquette + Uni Ikura King Crab Risotto + Truffle Lavender Duck. Food was absolutely a feast for the eyes. Every single dish was beautifully presented like a piece of art - particularly that iberio tree. My favourites for taste are the Iberio Tree for the wild berry neufchatel tartlets, the Kurobuta Pork Belly that is so tender it melts and love the sauce, and Uni Ikura King Crab Risotto that has a very creamy crab bisque like flavour and cooked perfectly. The torched motoyaki sauce on the oyster was something fun where they torch right at your table, but the taste was less unique than I thought where it is just a lightly torched sauce on top of raw oyster - I'd just go for more fresh oysters next time. The duck was cooked perfectly, but I'd recommend sharing this dish with 4 people or more. It's pretty heavy with the foie gras cream and croquettes and each piece of duck is a very generous meaty size. We over ordered a bit as we thought the portions were small from reading some reviews but boy were we wrong. Every dish had a very decent portion, very rich in flavour (some with so much flavour and richness that it can actually be a dish on its own) and we were stuffed by the end of the meal! It is a very attractive establishment. Food and drinks were aesthetically pleasing. Bathroom upstairs was cool and very pretty to look at. Yes, bathrooms can be pretty. Their cocktail was yummy and food was good but not great. Risotto was meh. I've had better elsewhere and Arctic Char was good, but not spectacular. My favorite dish was brussel sprouts; it had a good bite to it and had lots of flavour. Cocktails was yummy. It got pretty loud inside so it was hard to have a conversation without having to raise my volume which attributed to the overall loudness in the restaurant. Came by for our anniversary lunch. Since we've been here before, I had high expectations. The risotto was very taste but the didn't really taste any truffle nor lavender for Truffle Lavender Duck. The complimentary dessert was a pleasant surprise. The only thing we were not pleased about was the kitchen tip that was added to the bill. Although the server explained the reason as well as reference the charge was noted on the menu (we obviously didn't noticed it), she removed it promptly after we questioned it. The whole ordeal left us asking ourselves questions as to why any restaurant add such a charge. I completely agree tipping properly is important since it expresses gratitude for good service rendered, but to impose a separate kitchen tip seem odd. Tips provided should be split appropriately by the restaurant to its staff. With tipping in Vancouver increasing to 18% as the norm, I sure hope this isn't going to be a trend of adding another charge. This may end up discouraging people for dining out. read more

After hearing many reviews about Bruno we finally had the chance to check this place out. Many recommended to order the Bruno Experience but for us it looked like too much food and we didn't want to kill ourselves (especially since we've been eating so much since the holidays lol). So we opted to just order a few things to share - I do think we got to try out a variety of things and got a good idea of what they had to offer. Overall we felt that while the food was good it wasn't anything amazing. The service is was ok and I actually didn't mind the wait between each dish since it gave us room to digest. The food is definitely overpriced and prices are not justified by the quality. I also do wish that they used better quality liquor in their drinks because it would have made a huge difference in the way that they tasted. For the price you would expect higher quality. But that's not to say that I didn't enjoy my experience here, we enjoyed a few dishes that we ordered like the risotto and crab croquette. Everything else that we ordered: TRUFFLE LAVENDER DUCK I wasn't a huge fan of this dish which is a shame since I love duck. It was way too gamey for my taste - I do think it's because it was a different species that I'm not used to but I really couldn't stomach the gaminess of it. I did enjoy the other elements of the dish though like the apricots, foie gras and duck croquette. UNI IKURA KING CRAB RISOTTO One of my favourite dishes of the night. Loved that the uni flavour was strong and there were lots of huge king crab chunks. Really enjoyed all the different flavours. GRILLED WAGYU FLANK STEAK Enjoyed the flank steak itself - it was juicy, tender and melted in your mouth. I was confused about the whole dish - there were too many elements on this plate for me that I got confused and they all kind of took away the spotlight of the steak. An odd location in North Richmond but something different than downtown Vancouver! Parking is confusing. The Bruno sign in the parkade is hard to read. Delicious food - it seems like everyone at the restaurant got the same things ! we got the torched oysters, rib eye steak, brussel sprouts, potatoes and pork belly. Every dish was savoury and delectable! The steak was tender and juicy, cooked to perfection. Brussel sprouts were the best I've had anywhere. I've never had torched oysters - they torch it at your table and they was delicious. We tried 3 desserts and they were all so so so good! Tiramisu was my favourite, less sweet, but it depends on your palate. Toffee pudding is the sweetest. The one with pistachio marscapone had fantastic textures and flavours! It's pricey but worth it. Amazing service. Our server's name was Bruno .. coincidence? He was polite, efficient, knowledgeable, pleasant. It was nice to find a restaurant with this level outside of downtown. Easy to get to, parking can be a bit tight and confusing. I would recommend making a reservation first especially on a weekend. My family and I walked in, and the manager accommodated us quite quickly given it was a weekday :) Bruno was our server for the evening, and he was absolutely wonderful! He was so attentive. I can't really comment on the food or service at Bruno. The reason for that is that it was impossible to make a reservation. I was trying to make a reservation for an office function and the long family table at Bruno seemed like an ideal solution for us. I called on Monday and left a message on their answering machine. On Tuesday someone called back and said that a manger would call me later that day or Wednesday. I called on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and left messages each day. On Saturday, without having received any response from Bruno, I booked our group at Chambar in one easy phone call. Thank you Chambar. Late this afternoon I received a phone message from Bruno, and unlike Bruno, I returned it right away. I suppose it was the manager I spoke with. She explained that they were just really busy this week. Trust me, if you are too busy to take a reservation, you won't be busy for long....and frankly you won't deserve to stay in business if you lack a customer focus. The food was great, service was good, but the price was a little more than expected. This review is based on the INTEGRITY of the restaurant. It was a special occasion and my friend wanted to try the seafood brunch for $59, so when we placed our order, our server told us this brunch was only for Mother's Day. We went specifically for this brunch, but didn't want to be rude and leave, therefore we ended up ordering the Lunch Board for $125. Half way through our dining, a large family was seated nearby, I overheard them ordering the seafood brunch and assumed they would be told the same thing, but I was wrong. A short while later, their server and manager were bringing out multiple plates of the brunch special. I WAS FLOORED!!! After seeing this and knowing our server had LIED to us, our first time experience was seriously tarnished. (There were a lot of to go containers being filled around us.) We ordered the salmon flatbread, the duck, and tiramisu, all of which were excellent; the duck in particular was a standout. Almost like Chinese style dried oyster. Wagyu did not melt in my mouth, no marble no fat (but it is not Japanese Wagyu and it's flank as well so....) The pork belly - it was too sour and not good vinegar sauce. Arctic char was dry af. Tiramisu was not done well. Parts of it were soaked in rum. Like wet. Which is a newbie mistake. Do not understand the hype around this place. Service: not very attentive. didn't get water until 10 minutes after we sat down. FOOD WAS SERVED OUT OF ORDER and waiter did not care that we were still working on a course before putting down another. Disappointed in general - a pricey disappointment indeed. The aesthetic of the whole place is very nice, but that was about it. Felt a bit gimmicky considering the price was not I was consider to be cheap. We ordered 4 different entrees and none of them were great. The crab risotto and the salad was SO fishy. My friends and I honestly thought we were going to get food poisoning. We told the waiter that the food tasty fishy and they simply just nodded and took the food away, without discussion of making another one or compensation. We enjoyed breakfast 2 mornings with another couple. Each morning it was delicious. In our group we had Eggs Benedict - it was very delicate sauce. French Toast - was fabulous stuffed with cream cheese & fresh berries. Avocado Toast - minus the prawns, I'm allergic, very good. It came with sour dough bread, I wish I had requested the multi grain bread 'crispy', loved the delicate soft boiled egg. Himani is the breakfast manager & was very friendly. She is very organized & her staff under her work very well together. It was nice to see her not giving orders, but also working with the staff. They seem to all get along very well. We had wine & drinks in the bar one night. Our bartender Mo, was very friendly & a great mixologist. I had wanted a Smoked Old Fashion, they don't have a smoker. Mo said he could make me a drink that he thought was similar, if I was willing to try it & if I didn't like it, he wouldn't charge us. I said sure. It was so good, he had to make 3 more. It had Scotch, Disarrano and a cinnamon stick burned for about 10 seconds served over a large ice cube. If you are willing to try it order the 'Godfather'. It was fabulous! The food was absolutely amazing and obviously everything was plated beautifully. We got so much variety and food that we were all stuffed by the end of it. Food was amazing, server was friendly and great but why 3 stars? The older gentleman with a suit that was at the front (host/manager?) ruined the experience. He was rude and arrogant, we almost wanted to leave upon being greeted with such attitude but we continued as we were hungry and here already. Fortunately everything else made up for the initial extreme terrible experience but the first impression was that bad it knocked 2 stars away. read more
