This place definitely shocked me as I thought I'd go in for a burger but ended up focusing on the sandwiches. I've had a good amount of Bang Mis and this was good what I liked about it was the pork belly was cooked really good and had the fat be Crunchy. The bread was ok definitely could switch it for a different one but over all good combo of vegetables. The star for me was the chip dip! It definitely reminded me of something I had as a kid but couldn't figure it out. Highly recommend the chips. My partner had a brisket sandwich I that was wow... flavor on point everything was perfect. In the back they have a sign for the cooks where you can tip them so we did that and it was awesome to see! Will be coming again and actually checking out their salads because they looked really good. I'm happy to be branching out of the burger meal because it can be so hard for me but enjoyed the energy of this place and priced it can get packed quickly. Cool chill place. Nice people. I think the bartender was drunk but he made it work. I just don't like being called "Deary" I'm not an 80 year old with a hunchback who's hard of hearing. I think he meant well but it's not a good look. Don't call anyone Deary, especially your customers. The thighs were good, excellent dry rub. I was prepared to order more but I almost felt shamed. Dude was like. Yeah the wings are a lot. Try that first before ordering mote. Don't assume things about your customers. If I come into your place alone, I may be there to try a bunch of things and review them in some venue or another, I happen to go to a lot of restaurants to try several things, and you missed out on sales, so don't talk your customers out of ordering more food. But it's so nice to hear the shear joy in your bartenders' and servers' enthusiasm to be doing what they love and hosting your experience. I want to start out by saying the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was about as bad as any I've had. We ordered Buffalo wings and Blue-cheese dressing. The serve thighs instead of wings and we agreed to try it. It probably would have been okay if it weren't for the aweful and gritty blue-cheese dressing. Then we ordered the fish and chips to share. The fries were crispy and good but the ketchup was again awful, the fish mushy and way over breaded and once again the Tar Tar was terrible. This is close to our new home so we had high hopes. Brunson's has quickly solidified itself as a mainstay on the East Side of St. Paul. The food is approachable, yet goes beyond standard bar fare, the atmosphere (at least during the lunch and early evening hours) has always been accommodating and staff have always been friendly. The menu is mainly comprised of slightly gussied up Americana favorites that are always well executed. Anything that has their pulled bacon will be a winner, if the Cubano is on the specials board it's a safe pick and they make a good burger. They have about twenty tap lines to choose from, as well as a full bar should your mood need additional improving upon. I've been going here for a few years now. At first glance, I expected your typical Saint Paul pub (nothing wrong with that!) but Brunson's is definitely much than that. Though it's not a very large space, they manage to fit a good amount of both high top and standard height tables -- but not so much that it is crowded or awkward to navigate. They have a nice, long bar that looks like it could seat about 20 people. When the weather allows, they also have a nice sized patio. The décor definitely gives Saint Paul pub vibes, with lots of cool Hamms paraphernalia and old photos of the area, plus black drop ceiling tiles and dark wood bar and furnishings. At the very back is the open scratch kitchen where you can see the cooks hard at work. The menu isn't very large (I typically take that as a good sign) and yet it offers a good amount of variety. It's not just burgers and it's not only American cuisine. They serve all kinds of drinks, alcoholic and non- alcoholic, including beer (tap, canned, and bottled), wine, and a full bar for mixed drinks and cocktails. I was pleasantly surprised and excited by their menu of house cocktails, made with quality spirits and ingredients, which also offers a variety for different tastes. In my experience, pubs often offer simple rail drinks and lots of beer of course. While there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, I do enjoy a well crafted cocktail and appreciate a place that can offer something for everyone's tastes. They update/change their menu every so often and they typically offer some sort of seasonal, weekly, and/or daily special. They also have a great happy hour menu and they offer HH every single day, twice a day! I have personally always experienced great service from the folks who work there. Sure, there has been a time or two where it took longer for food or drinks to come out. If it happened consistently I wouldn't keep going back. That's just how it goes when you dine out sometimes. Overall the quality of service is great. Even at one of their busiest times, I was greeted and sat almost immediately. I'm pretty sure it was either the manager or the owner who took our orders. You can tell that they really do care for their patrons. I have no doubt if there was ever an issue that they would be happy to make it right. The food: Brunson's is really best described as a Gastropub. They make their food from scratch in a small, open kitchen and they offer more than just your typical pub burger. My absolute favorite are the cheese curds. They come with two dipping sauces and the balsamic aioli is so, so good. I get cheese curds every time I go. I would also highly recommend their chicken wings (full chicken thighs - yum!!) and the pulled bacon BLT. Other things I've tried and would get again: loaded fries, chips and dip, wedge salad, fried chicken sandwich, beef and manchego sandwich. The drinks: As I stated above, I am a fan of well crafted cocktails and I think Brunson's offers just that. I usually order a Boulevardier (which they make perfectly) but I have also enjoyed many of their house cocktails, like the Barrel Aged Lake Phalen Vieux Carre. I wouldn't say I'm very "picky" about my cocktails, however I do very much appreciate when a place puts effort into making them correctly and well. Tips: If you like the Japanese Sticky Wings from Red Cow you will love the Sweet Chili wings at Brunsons. They offer brunch on Saturdays and Sundays 11am-20pm. Follow them on social media to see their latest food or drink specials as well as keep up to date on any events they may be having. They announce their weekly chef's special on wednesdays. We've been coming to Brunson's for several years for the good food and warm service. It's a terrific place to meet friends and has just the right level of noise and a nice selection of local beer offerings. Brunson's is one of those places where -- no matter how hard I try -- I always end up ordering the same thing. Because their Hoppin' John Salad has always been outstanding - crave-worthy! - so of course I ordered it again today. Not sure if the recipe was altered, but the absence of flavor was an unpleasant surprise. That peppery, vinegary base was missing, the pulled pork was lacking smokiness and the whole salad was just ... boring? A sprinkling of hot sauce helped - but not enough. Even the little wedge of cornbread which has always arrived slightly grilled in the past was just not up to snuff. All in all, this was a disappointing visit. The service was - as usual - really cheerful and pleasant but I hope they go back and revisit the original recipes from their chef. We will probably be back at some point. But I won't be ordering the Hoppin' John Salad again and that makes me really sad. read more

Came here for lunch on a moderately busy Saturday. I think our table was being handled by one of the bartenders. Seemed nice enough, great outdoor space. Service was super slow, though, and it took almost half and hour for all our food to come out. When it finally did, it was pretty good. It pays to eat outside of your comfort zone! Living up near the Cathedral, I have great choices in my neighborhood. Last night I gave Payne-Phalen a try. Brunson's was busy. A bar back greeted us and asked for our patience until the bartender could get us. She appreciated our understanding. We were seated upstairs where the "bar back", Alicia, was also serving. She just killed it! Running up and down a long flight of stairs, she kept us informed on our order, helped us plan B the entrees when the fish started running low, and comped us a round of drinks. You wouldn't know she was 12 hours into her workday. She had nothing but praise for the chef and team she works with at Brunson's. Now so do we. The fish fry was very good. My sibling had shrimp and grits as the alternative to fish. It was spicy and creamy and very good. Brunson's really makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit. I have friends and family members who have allergies or who are very afraid of dogs,. It's one thing to bring pets to outdoor beer gardens that are spacious, but the patio at this restaurant is on the small side and enclosed. . The comfort of paying customers should take precedence over someone,s need to take their pets to every place they want even though it makes others' uncomfortable. read more

Local corner bar full of amazing flavors, both in the kitchen and behind the bar. The space screams "dive" bar, but the food is "out of bounds" ( Triple-D reference, not sorry). The retro beer clocks and Hamm's memorabilia really speaks of easier times. However, this establishment really soothes the pain of the now and showcases not only comfort but nostalgia. The #NoPayneNoGain burger really set off my tastes buds. Did somebody say pulled bacon? Wow, I'm in awe at how wonderful that basket of deliciousness was. Our server, Kelly, was kind and helpful when we asked for recommendations. "Why are you guys making this hard on me?" Since we were making her decide from all the delicious choices on the menu. Bacon, bacon, bacon! I love bacon! I've been reading the glowing reviews about Brunson's Pub for a while and have interested in trying them out. But, I was unsure about that pulled bacon. I've had bacon all sorts of ways, just never pulled before. So my wife's company had a happy hour at Brunson's and since I was picking her up we decided to get some food to go for dinner. We order some dry rubbed "wings", their BLT and Brisket burger. The "wings" are actually thighs disguised as wings. Why doesn't everyone do this! The wings were excellent! The dry rub was a little sweet and a little smoky. The wings were both large and meaty. I could have easily eaten 20 of these! The BLT with that pulled bacon. OMG. First of all this is much more than just a BLT. It has that pulled bacon which is kind of like pulled pork but more flavorful. Its meaty, yet smoky and salty like bacon. The "L" was arugula which gave a nice peppery flavor to the richness of this sandwich. This was really more of a BLATE because it also had creamy avocado, fresh tomato and yes a fried egg. This is all served on a ciabatta bun. Eat it for breakfast, eat for lunch or eat it for dinner. Just eat this sandwich! The brisket burger was no slouch either. In fact getting a full bite was a challenge. Two very flavorful beef patties were cuddled in-between two grilled pieces of Texas toast. Add some fried shallots, gouda cheese and bbq sauce and you have one Texas sized burger that hits all senses. Sweet, salty, savory and of course delicious. Both sandwiches were served with homemade chips. This is a lost art! I love my fries, no doubt about that however there is something to be said about a good homemade chip. These are much better than good! For an addictive addition and another hour on the treadmill, get their dill and onion dip for your chips. You can thank me later. Probably a 5 star location however once we dine in, which we will sooner than later, I'll update my review. Stopped by here for a quick bite and left happy and satisfied. The waiter mentioned that the kitchen was backed up and may take a while, however, it was only a 15 minute wait, nothing out of the ordinary. The Mixed Bean (black bean burger) was the perfect meal after a long day. It had such great flavor due to the variety of beans and the roasted red peppers. My favorite part is the toasted bread, it truly completed the experience. If you can, try to sit outside. It's beautiful and the twinkly lights make everything more enjoyable! read more

Pretty standard bar food and I would give it 3.5 if I could. My friends got the wings (dry rub and forgot the other flavor) but it was nice how you could get two flavors in one order. I tried the cheese curds and french fries and I definitely had better of both. However, their sauces were really unique and delicious. The Thai chili one was actually spicy and their balsamic sauce was thick and had character. I didn't like the chipotle mayo so much but might just be me. Out of the park food at this joint. Small(ish) menu, but I guarantee you'll like anything you get here. The chef's pride in his food is clear here. The hoppin John salad is sure to please even non-salad eaters. The pulled bacon chili, if you're lucky enough to come on a day it's served as soup of the day, is perfectly spicy, meaty, and pure comfort. Bandito burger is delicious--perfectly cooked, great bun, amazing toppings band sauces. Of course, the homemade chips and dip are a MUST! The pride in cocktails is also clear--one of the best old fashioneds I've ever had. Ambiance is super cool--intimate yet casual and relaxed. One of my new faves in St. Paul for sure! read more
