More than just Frozen Custard! For perspective, it has been said people should be more than a "pretty face.'' I do like their frozen custard as much as I do Ted Drew's in St. Louis! But it might be a disservice to some of the other things available. In the "Covid Lockdown Era", we're open to safe drive throughs and curbside delivery as an alternative to actually cooking meals in our kitchen. So on a whim we decided to check out their non-frozen offerings for dinner. Pulling up at the dive through a friendly voice came out of the speaker. As we had never had anything but frozen custard their we did quick looks at their menu. I settled on a "Rockin Burger" (¼ lb Angus patty served on a butter toasted bun with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles and King sauce), my order without the tomatoes and pickles as that's my taste. My wife latched onto the "KC Jazz Burger" (¼ lb Angus patty served on a butter toasted bun with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, sizzling bacon and BBQ sauce). Both were ordered as "meals," adding fries and a medium Pepsi product. On first glance we were both impressed with quantity served. Not following the herd, the burgers were actually bigger than the buns (not a "Where's the Beef" moment). Red onions rather than chopped onions was another case of walking on the wild side. The buns were another high point. Not anemic or overpowering the sandwiches, they had great flavor without some hard crust or mushy afterthought - easily enhancing the sandwiches. The fries were very good for fast food. The BBQ sauce was light and also flavor enhancing (acceptable in Kansas City). The tab for both meals was around $16.00 including tax. Adding to the enjoyment, the packaging allowed for the meals to still be hot when we finished to 3 mile drive home (kind of rare in fast food). For now they only offer drive through and delivery during the lockdowns. Safety first. Looking past the "Pretty Face" of their frozen custard, there is real substance within their menu. That initial "whim" paid off, and I am sure we will be returning. read more

The ice cream itself is nothing special, but the theming of this place is really fun. Great atmosphere, retro vibes, cool seating and a big checkers set outside. However, I couldn't help but notice the egregious looking AI slop poster plastered all over the store to advertise their rewards program. It put enough of a damper on the place to make me decide to never go there again. I find it very insulting as a customer when a business tries to advertise with such obviously AI images. It makes it feel like a scam. What flavors are these even supposed to represent? You guys couldn't pull free stock images off of the internet? Polluting the environment and making your business look cheap and shady because you couldn't be bothered to use a photo of real ice cream? A phone picture of the ice cream actually in the store would've been better than this. Next time, I'll go to Poppy's on Third Street. The ice cream is better, anyway. read more

I tried Custard's Last Stand on the recommendation of my uncle who happens to have impeccable taste. I was not disappointed. Of all the frozen custards I've tried, this is the best. Smooth as silk with excellent vanilla flavor, it's exactly what I'm looking for in frozen custard. I ordered the Mississippi Mud sundae with hot fudge, marshmallow cream, and roasted pecans. Divine. I'll have to force myself to try something else from their extensive menu next time, it was that good. Service was friendly and quick. The shop is cute and colorful. I absolutely recommend trying this custard shop out. It really takes you back to the 50s when you step in the door with their funky couch and the unique style throughout the building. I ended up ordering the PB and B, which is peanut butter and brown brownies and a vanilla custard. Honestly it was hard choosing between all of the options, another one that I look forward to trying is David's cookie which is made with a chocolate custard Oreos, Reese's and peanut butter. We also gave their food a try, we ordered a single rocking burger and a coney dog that came with chili sauce, onions, mustard, and melted cheese. It definitely wasn't the best burger and hotdog I've had, but it gets the job done. I'll definitely be coming just for the custard next time. read more

The kid was STARVING. 'Mommmmm I need fooooood!!!' She'd been here with friends before so I took her here again to quit her complaining. Parents of teenagers I know you can relate. I had a bite of her KC Jazz Burger, it has a slightly sweet BBQ sauce on it, and it was super delish, cooked perfectly. The fries were coated in crispiness and just the right amount of salt. I will def come back sometime with her to enjoy this place again. Wish they used more responsible packaging than styrofoam for to-go orders, but that's my only complaint. AWFUL CUSTOMER CARE FROM THE MANAGER. Ordered ice cream on a Sunday evening via drive through. Got the ice cream handed to me in a white bag which was rolled up and closed-super sweet girl at the window- I didn't check the ice cream to make sure it was correct before I left and that was my fault however, after getting home around 9:20 and the establishment closing at 9:30 I called and talked to a manager. I explained the situation that I had ordered something different than I received. She insisted I bring the ice cream back tomorrow to prove it was the wrong item. I said you want me to return ice cream the next day just so you can throw it away because you couldn't possibly serve it to anyone else right? She said that's the policy and they can't give me the correct item if I've eaten the wrong one. She yelled, she lost her temper, she had no professionalism, and she hung up on me when I questioned the policy. I offered to take a picture of the ice cream to prove it was the wrong item along with the receipt. The policy is one thing but the poor level of customer care and disrespect was appalling. We wont be supporting this level of service again, lost a loyal customer over a couple scoops of ice cream. I will be returning the ice cream(as stupid as that sounds) we didn't eat it. I chose the Chocolate concrete with chocolate flakes and peanut butter. This has always been my go to over the years and never disappoints. Custard's Last Stand always puts a plentiful amount of toppings/mix-ins on whatever item you choose, which is awesome! They are always always fast and professional. I stopped by this place for the first time on my own. The lights were all on and there was no line. It wasn't closing time. I attempted to get service at the speaker. Then I went to the window. No signs saying closed early. I see someone cleaning. I finally got her attention. We made eye contact, the she put her head down as if I wasn't there. We frequent a lot because the frozen custard is super yummy (creamy and thick with a plethora of flavors!) and the customer service is fast and friendly. We get a kick out of the candy decor under glass counters and like that we can eat inside. Favorites: the seasonal Blackberry frozen custard is absolutely amazing!!! Get it. My friend raves about Custard's regularly and how it is better than a very popular competitor so it was time to make my own comparison. I have never been to any Custard's Last Stand so I wasn't sure what to expect. Their design is definitely more of a 50s vintage look with checkered floors, neon signs, and motown music. To make a fair comparison, I attempted to order a similar concrete to what is favored at other shop. I ended up going with vanilla custard, cappuccino, almonds, and mini chocolate chips. I noticed immediately the consistency which is softer and melts much faster. Although, there was nice flavor, I couldn't get over how soupy it was with how quickly I was eating it. It turns out, I enjoy a thicker and creamier consistency than what Custard's has to offer. My friend was devastated, but as I told her, we are all entitled to our own opinion so she'll keep visiting her local joint while I will keep heading to mine. read more

Oh, Custards...how I love thee. I worry about the fate of the remaining location since the other two Lee's Summit locations have closed (well, one moved and the other shut down.) They have a cute 50's diner theme going on. The item of interest here is their 'Concrete'...frozen regular or light custard mixed with a HUGE variety of items to create flavors. The Lemon Cream Pie, PB & B (peanut butter and brownie) and Cheesecake options are awesome. This location also offers hot dogs, coneys, flavored popcorn, and regular ice cream (but why get that when you can have a Concrete?) The kiddie size is plenty big enough for an adult serving, or split a 'mini' size with someone else. They never look super-busy which worries me, because I would hate to see them go. I only go every few months, as eating large amounts of sugar is 'not recommended' by most health experts. It is very good, though, I would definitely recommend swinging by for a Concrete. No thanks, I'll go to Andy's and get real custard blended with fresh ingredients. The concrete I got here was most definitely not custard, pretty sure they just scooped it out of a big tub of bluebell (which we saw an employee throwing out back in the dumpster while we waited) and called it a blended concrete. The prices are crazy, if I'm spending that kind of money I'd much rather head over the Andy's. I ordered the Black Forest concrete and the description said brownies, cherries and hot fudge. The brownies and cherries where ground into dust, so there wasn't actually chewy brownie or cherry chunks which is what I expected. And the hot fudge I assumed would be around the outer edge where I could enjoy it but the fudge was not to be seen. When we asked she said it was blended into it?? Also it was so runny I could literally drink it. So much for turning it upside down. I went thru the drive thru so I can't say anything about the ambiance and all that. This review is strictly quality of product. And I will never spend my money here again. Side note, my cup was also cracked so my concrete was leaking all over me the whole way home. read more

Four words old fashion chocolate soda!! Yes, my friends this is the bomb. Creamy vanilla custard, rich chocolate syrup and of course soda all combined in a LARGE cup with whip cream and a cherry on top. I can't describe in words how good this and for just $2.99! Their custard is just as good as Sheridan's and there is at least 12 different specialty concretes to try from. The portions here are huge. I got what I thought was a mini, which turned out to be the size of a Sheridan's regular concrete. So, I could not imagine what the medium or large size concretes look like. Oh and I love that they are served with hot pink spoons! If you are ever in Lee's Summit on a hot day stop by Custard's Last Stand surprisingly its just a little ways down the road from the Sheridan's there. read more

I was in the neighborhood and was really craving ice cream. I saw this place and decided to give it a try. Boy, am I so happy I did! First off, their menu is ridiculous. SO many options to choose from and SO many toppings. I couldn't handle it! I decided to go for the Raspberry Truffle (vanilla custard, raspberries, chocolate shavings, & pecans). When I went to pay for it, if I said "GO CHIEFS" I would get 10% off due to their promotion. Anytime the Chiefs play, how much they score, you will receive that much off your purchase on game day. I appreciated their support for our home team. I sat down outside on a bench and scarfed down this ice cream. It was super creamy and full of flavor.
